Getting ready for winter
Temperatures have started to dip below freezing so I spent some time last week on winterizing chores.
After watching (and paying) the landscaping company blow out our sprinkler system last year, I was able to do it myself this year. My compressor is only 40 gallons so it takes longer, but I install the snow sticks along the driveway while waiting for the compressor tank to refill.
Tumblr media
My big innovation this year is a new home built solution for containing snowblower snowmelt while also preventing rust marks on the garage floor from the steel skid plates. I found this large tub and four small ramps on Amazon and then connected the ramps with steel joist hangers from the hardware store. I’m very proud of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also have a lot of heat tape on the roof and in the gutters to prevent ice dams. Last year the installers just plugged them in with thermo cubes which meant that the tape was on whenever the temp was in a certain range, even if there wasn’t any snow present. Heat tape draws a lot of current so it’s expensive to use, so installed Lutron remote controlled exterior plugs and SwitchBot digital thermometers so I can turn them on from my phone when they are needed. Unfortunately the new plugs required me to install new outlet covers too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last chore was cleaning pine needles off the roof and gutters. I’m thankful we don’t have deciduous trees so we don’t have to rake leaves, but the small fir needles can be troublesome. Even though I have gutter guards, the needles were able to get through the guard and clog the gutter.

It’s coming up 60 years since the YF 12 was first announced!
Feb. 29, 1964: President Lyndon B. Johnson publicly revealed the existence of the Top Secret Lockheed YF-12A, a Mach 3+ interceptor designed and built by Clarence L. “Kelly” Johnson’s “Skunk Works.”
President Lyndon Johnson referred to the interceptor as the “A-11.”
The YF-12A interceptor is very similar to its A-12 Oxcart and SR-71A Blackbird stablemates. It is a sizeable twin-engine delta-wing aircraft flown by a pilot and weapons system operator. Because of the altitudes at which the F-12 operates, the crew wears S901F full-pressure suits produced by the David Clark Company.
After Johnson’s announcement, the media wanted to see a YF 12… on Sept 30 1964 they went to Edwards Air Force Base to see it. The airplane was still hot since he had just arrived from Groom Lake, Area 51. Since the aircraft was still hot when it went into the hangers at Edwards, the smoke detectors picked that up, and the water sprinkler system took over and drenched the YF 12s.
Kelly Johnson, who had a dry whit, said at least we got a plane washed out of this deal.😄
Part of the reason why Johnson announced the YF 12 was to hide the CIA‘s A-12.
An airline pilot had threatened to tell an aviation magazine. They were on the verge of publishing it when they stepped in and announced the YF 12..
Whenever an A-12 was spotted, they would say no, that’s YF 12.
No one knew any difference. Later, when an A-12 crashed, they would blame it on an SR 71. This outraged Kelly Johnson as he did not want the SR 71 to be unfairly blamed.

Day 1 of Renovation
That first morning of waking up in the Wagon Wheel apartment was a memorable one.
We all know what it’s like to wake up somewhere new and have a few moments of confusion and disorientation in your new surroundings. Couple that with some serious self doubts and anxiety and that was pretty much my experience on June 2nd. I had my air mattress and sleeping bag stretched out on the bedroom floor and the apartment was eerily quiet. It had a strange smell, of something that had sat empty for a while. I remember laying on my air mattress for a long time, wondering where do I even begin with what was before me.
The apartment and property had no running water. The previous owners had winterized the property and then when it was turned back on for the inspection there were major leaks all over the place. Faucets were shooting out water in the rooms and the pipes in the crawl space were so pitted they had pinhole leaks all along them. So, no running water meant I had to brush my teeth with bottled water and go and use the town’s park bathrooms for everything else.
My first order of business was to begin cleaning up the property as best I could. There was alot of junk that needed to be cleaned out, not just in the old rooms but in the apartment, the lobby, and outside around the motel. I called around town for a giant dumpster to be delivered which to my surprise came pretty quickly. It would soon be my experience that getting people to return phone calls in Pinedale was a challenge. Heck, even getting my phone to work was a challenge. It would make calls one moment and then the next it would be out of service. It was frustrating. I didn’t have internet access so I had to go sit outside the library and use their free wifi at night or hit up Pine Coffee to sit and work with Kayleigh on things.
When the dumpster arrived I started to go ham on the clean up. I walked the property and picked up all the trash that had accumulated over the years. There was an old car parked on the “lawn” behind room 15 and a nasty dog fence that was at one point used to hold a dog? The lawn was a bunch of tall weeds and a defunct sprinkler system was uprooted everywhere. I ripped it all out and threw it away.
The laundry room was by far the worst cluttered space on the property. The previous owners had built shelving on the walls that was filled with old towels and linens and random junk that had accumulated over the course of 40 years. I knew the laundry room had to be a major focus so I started gutting it in anticipation of making it the first space that got a make over.
In the apartment there were closets filled with hangers, so many hangers, boxes of hangers. It was a hanger fetish to the extreme! The refrigerator had old food in it and soda that had exploded when the temperatures froze. One cabinet still had forgotten items, mainly ancient bottles of liquor, that were left behind. The lobby space had a bunch of dead potted plants. All of it went in the dumpster, to the point that this massive dumpster was getting to the point of over flowing. It felt good to purge and see a little progress, however small it was.

The SR-71 was always supposed to be called the SR-71 (strategic reconnaissance); the part of the Air Force that the SR-71 flew under was SAC , which stands for Strategic Air Command.
General Curtis LeMay was the man who ruled over (SAC) he was Chief of staff of the Air Force from 1961 to 1964 ( when you have four stars, you’re just called General) . He was terrific at his job, perhaps a bit overzealous. His idea was to reward his people with spot promotions. Even if you were years below the zone, if you were doing an excellent job for SAC, you could be promoted early, as my father, Butch Sheffield, was to Major at the age of 31.
LeMay received his fourth star in 1951 at age 44; LeMay became the youngest American four-star general since Ulysses S. Grant.
After President Kennedy‘s tragic assassination, the new President Lyndon Johnson was advised about the A-12. (A for article, or Ark-Angel )12 it was primarily intended for the overflying of the Soviet Union. So, it had to remain a top-secret airplane. However, the aircraft was never flown over the Soviet Union that we know of. Because when the U-2 was shot down on May 1, 1960, the United States pledged not to fly over the Soviet Union again. Johnson decided that we needed to tell the public something about the A-12 but not the whole story. Instead, he announced that an A-11 was being introduced. The A-11 was the name of the A-12 before the last modification. The A- 11 did not exist.
This February 1964 announcement led to the YF-12s being quickly flown from Area 51 down to Edwards Air Force Base in California. They were flown down so quickly that they had to beat the Press down to Edwards. The heat from the YF-12 turned on the sprinkler system in the hanger! The YF-12 was the interceptor version of A-12.
Then on July 25, 1964, President Johnson made another announcement.
At the time, The Air Forces version of the A-12 was called the RS-71, but Air Force Chief of Staff Curtis LeMay preferred calling it SR for Strategic Reconnaissance. The designation was changed right before Johnson’s announcement, but the press materials couldn’t be updated in time. When LBJ called it the SR-71, the media speculated he’d misread the name, forcing the service to rename the plane after its Commander in Chief mistake.
President Johnson did not mix up the name.
The truth is Curtis LeMay had convinced President Johnson that this was a better name… the SR 71. So, for many years, there has been this fictitious tale going around that President Johnson had dyslexia and switched the letters from RS to SR. That is not true at all! He read the news release just as it was written and modified by General Curtis LeMay. So that’s the rest of the story.

My father whispered to me when he first held me, a name my mother loved, a name taken from a grandmother. Growing up, I would abandon it at the drop of a hat, in favor of a noun or the name of a character I liked, or a collection of syllables that tumbled jubilantly on my tongue. None of these lasted more than a week.
When I was nine, I read a very well-known fantasy book. It had been adapted into a very well-known movie. The protagonist had my name. She was bold (which I was not), and stubborn (which I was), and clever (which I hoped to be), and she was female.
On her, the name sounded vivid and bright, bold yellow sunshine and turquoise, like a forget-me-not. On me, it felt like things seen through a frosted-over window. Faded blue and the pale color of frozen butter, wisps of wrinkled wisteria.
When I was seventeen, the year I slipped on another set of pronouns like a beaded bracelet over my wrist (the year I learned I could have more than one set if I wanted to, the year I started collecting them as any magpie would), I slipped my given name off of my shoulders and folded it up in my cold hands. I found another name, one with a glowing orange ember nestled in twists of brown dark wood, and I brought it inside me and it warmed my core. The old name I would have returned, hung neatly on its hanger and delivered to my mother, but instead I kept it in an old dusty dressbox, to be taken out again and worn superficially, as a costume, when I attended certain family gatherings.
When I was eighteen, I went to university, a strange old college on a hill. I did not grow into a young woman, but I did not mind because I was me. For the first time no one I lived with knew my old, dead, wisteria-withered name. I burned orange, I burned bright. No one used their birth names there, which made it all the merrier, because that’s what college is for, right? Figuring out what fits you. I loved the name I’d chosen, but I still cycled through moniker after alias, just to feel the joy of the syllables.
I learned many things while I was there. I asked people before taking their pictures. I carried a supply of my own food. Iron washers from my thieving friends in the scene shop clangled joyfully around my neck (I experimented with personal style, queer as the self I was). I was kind to insects and I left milk outside my dorm room door at night, and I was delighted that no one chastised me, as my parents had, for being overfriendly to the wild animals. (You know, almost every animal likes attention at some point, and reading my stories out loud is a great way to justify quality time.)
I met people. I met professors who cared about my learning, fellow students with stories to share, RAs fiercer than any dragon to defend their charges. There was the sick new boy to whom I fed soup once, on a whim, when I was feeling homesick and making use of the kitchen, and later he gave me a blown glass flower. There was the kid who borrowed some of my baking butter, and was so profusely and profoundly grateful without ever quite saying “thank you.” There was the girl I met in my sophomore year, with the long black hair and five ear piercings, and we became best friends and we talked about names.
Her name started out rock-black, though I could never tell if that was simply an association with the color of her hair. In the middle, there sparkled the vowels and the twists of consonants, bright metal and stone in the depths of a cave. I didn’t quite believe all the stories she told, but then I read her some ones of mine that were not true. She’d named herself for a bird of the sea, plucked her girl’s name from one no one meant for a girl. We talked about ways one might come to know these things, and the kinds of things one could learn on the edges.
She liked the edges; she learned things. She bartered and gambled for changes of the kind she needed most. I worried for her rarely, because I knew she was so careful. But careful doesn’t always cut it out here.
The second week before graduation, I went looking for her. I found, readily enough, a place where she had been, and I found someone who didn’t want to give her back. I asked them what they wanted, and they asked what she was worth.
I would have said, “my life,” but then I would never see her again.
I would have said, “my heart,” but I needed that to love her.
So instead I said, “A name,” and I watched moon eyes glow with an unearthly-wide smile.
“Not any name will do,” said the mouth, and maybe something behind it.
“I will give you my birth Name, the one my mother gave me and my father whispered as I cried.”
They stretched out themself, and curled loose around me, and I knew I would have to sell this. So I said the name I hadn’t used in years, said it with all the cornflower and yellowyellowyellow of that heroine from long ago.
They gibbered, and they stretched out one palm, and my best friend in the entire world stood on the cobbles to my left, and, no time for happy reunions, we ran like hell across the sprinkler-soaked sidewalk for the saltlick safety of our dorm, because I didn’t know how long it would take the creature in the courtyard to realize all I’d given them was a handful of dried-up wisteria.

ULTRAMAN SUIT ANOTHER UNIVERSE: Tokubetsu Edition 2: Weapon Development arc
Chapter 20
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the first time physically, Maya comes to the Giant of Light Memorial, brought by Dan. She is currently occupying a rudimentary android body. They are coming to SSSP headquarters so Dan can test new equipment, and Maya can test the new android body developed for her, One Zero. For six months had been sharing the ZERO Suit with ZERO, but things were getting uncomfortable for both.
The two greet ZERO, under maintenance, and Jiro, Maya joking ZERO must be lonely without her. Horii and Nakajima, 2 of the researchers developing new weaponry for Moroboshi to test appear, and he tells the to wait for him to be at the scheduled time. The two, plus Doigaki, are known as the 3 geniuses who did a lot of work developing the SEVEN Suit and are acknowledged by Ide. Maya asks about the number of prototypes before the field use SEVEN Suit, which Ide explains. They were working to try and develop a suit usable by someone without the Ultraman Factor. Ver. 0 was retired as it didn't match Moroboshi's methods, and then work was done to develop a system gradually, going through 6 versions before the field-use Ver. 7.0. through minor updates and repairs since then, the current version is Ver. 7.21B, but Ide notes Moroboshi didn't approve of even Ver. 6. A meteorite found a few days ago is being brought to the lab for study.
Horii meets his family briefly, before returning to the test site, where Moroboshi on the SEVEN Suit is testing Nakajima's weapon, the Alpha Superior, a 2 metre long cannon. While powerful, Moroboshi recognises it as unwieldy and dangerous, to Nakajima's dismay.
The meteorite being studied unleashes a cosmic parasite, which rapidly spreads across various staff. Testing is about to begin on Horii's equipment when the alarm is raised. Due to isolation systems not working, the Giant of Light Memorial is also evacuated. Horii's wife Michiru cannot find their children, Yime is searching for the hiding Mirai, who believes he is just trying to lure her out, as possessed staff approach.
(Diorama details 1: ZERO stands in a white room, various weapons attached. 2: Observed by the researchers, SEVEN wields the Alpha Superior.)
Chapter 21
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The parasites spread rapidly. Shinjiro and Seiji are both stationed at the Dive Hanger and will need 2 hours to arrive, meaning they must rely on Jiro and Moroboshi. Moroboshi decides to destroy the meteor, and Horii rushes to try and find his children. Jiro manages to find Yume by chance and protect them, bit hears about Mirai also being missing.
SEVEN uses Ex Rifles to try and make his way to the lab, using non-lethal rounds. Maya connects herself to the network. Horii finds a parasitised Doigaki and Nakajima. Jiro is about to summon ZERO when a parasite gets him, yelling at Yume to run as it attempts to use ZERO against SEVEN.
Maya was heading to find Moroboshi when she finds Mirai, swearing to protect her. On the way she monitors the IDs of those being called down by the parasites, and realises Jiro is possessed. A possessed Horii, Doigaki and Nakajima home in on Yume, but Horii is able to push back enough due to concern for his child, and they discover water can kill the parasites, freeing the 3 geniuses.
Maya with Mirai reaches Moroboshi, just as ZERO, completely controlled by the parasitised Jiro, attacks. Maya rushes ZERO and is destroyed, but in that moment transfers herself into ZERO, converting it into LM Mode and forcing Jiro out.
Ide reports to them about water killing the parasites, so ZERO LM activates all the sprinklers, and they continue to the meteorite. The meteorite reveals itself as Magnia, which has a symbiotic relationship to the parasites, which were bringing the humans to it as food.
SEVEN's weapons do nothing, Horii recommends his weapon prototype, Akebonomaru, which Moroboshi feels is pointless but Maya recommends. Akebonomaru is a large blade which vibrates to do further damage, Horii, Nakajima and Doigaki calculate the frequency it needs to vibrate at to resonate with Magnia's body, keeping it in place, eventually causing it to shatter.
Despite the success, Moroboshi finds Akebonomaru too heavy to use and more suited to construction work.
(Diorama Details 1: SEVEN wielding EX Rifles and ZERO LM Mode stand together. 2: SEVEN wields Akebonomaru.)
Chapter 22
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some days later, Moroboshi prepares to test Doigaki's weapon prototype, Hercules, a giant high power hydraulic arm capable of crushing steel and boulders. Moroboshi notes it's powerful, bit that it would be useless in the field between the limited range and need to move. The 3 developers argue, Horii trying to claim his weapon actually worked, the others pointing out that was sheer luck.
Maya is now operating the Zero One body and assisting the SSSP. Ide, Jiro and Edo come to meet Moroboshi to watch the next test. SEVEN and what seems to be the ULTRAMAN Suit stand opposite each other, but it is explained it is actually the ULTRAMAN Suit Ver. Z developed for Hayata, who has dubbed it ZOFFY, the name being in his head from when he was Ultraman. They do a combat test, and while the Suit works fine, Hayata suddenly collapses.
Horii and Nakajima can't find Doigaki, and track him down at an underground idol show, the centre, Kurusu Saya, is Doigaki's favourite idol. As they find him, a "fan" pushes Saya over after she refuses to take off her sunglasses, Doigaki helps her up before people force the man out.
Hayata tells Jiro how the other day he and his comrades visited the grave of captain Muramatsu, and a survivor of the Underground People attacked them for revenge, causing Hayata his injury. Maya detects minerals from several strata deep very near the surface.
Saya is revealed as an Underground Person, who has chosen to live as an idol, her brother, Seta, approaches seeking assistance with a revenge plot.
SEVEN goes to investigate the materials, and is attacked by Seta using Mecha Telesdon II. ZERO joins SEVEN, and they are surprised when ZOFFY also arrives, Maya having called backup as soon as Mecha Telesdon caused the ground to collapse. Using a special light grenade, the Zaragas Flash, ZOFFY drives them off for now.
Doigaki is surprised to receive a call from Saya, asking to meet.
(Diorama Details 1: SEVEN tests the Hercules. 2: ZOFFY, SEVEN and ZERO stand at the edge of the tunnel made by Mecha Telesdon II.)
Chapter 23
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doigaki meets Saya who reveals herself as an Underground Person before Sets knocks him out. Deep underground, he interrogates him on certain procedures.
Doigaki turns up next day, to the surprise of Horii and Nakajima who had been unable to find him, but wearing dark glasses and moves towards some objective without answering them. Moroboshi and Jiro spot the odd behaviour.
Doigaki goes deep in the R&D department, and unlocks the the container of the final prototype suit, the ULTRAMAN Suit Ver. 6. Doigaki removes the fake skin he is wearing, revealing Seta, who tells the arriving Moroboshi that he knows this suit is identical to the stats of his own suit and equips the Ver. 6, grabbing a Specium Sword and rushes out, pursued by SEVEN and ZERO.
SEVEN faces Ver. 6 as Mecha Telesdon II is summoned. SEVEN summons two EX Rifles and Wide Shots, but Ver. 6 is able to do the same. SEVEN struggles against Ver. 6, evenly matched, while ZERO cannot penetrate the armour on Mecha Telesdon using Specium weapons, when Ide advises forcing it open, Horii and Nakajima have a brainwave. ZOFFY arrives to assist ZERO.
SEVEN and Ver. 6 are evenly matched, and go for a final sword stroke. Ver. 6 falls, Seta unable to comprehend how he can lose in an exactly matching suit, Moroboshi explaining the importance of the human factors, and his own experience, as Seta dies.
Mecha Telesdon pauses briefly allowing ZOFFY and ZERO to do some damage, but then it starts rampaging again. They don't have enough force to do proper damage. Horii and Nakajima arrive, presenting the combination of Alpha Superior, Akebonomaru and Hercules, the Troy Total, which SEVEN is able to use to deliver enough force to destroy Mecha Telesdon. Saya emerges from the cockpit, Moroboshi is prepared to kill her.
Doigaki suddenly arrives, and while admitting she is an underground person, begs Moroboshi not to shoot, as she gave him so much strength. She had been told by Seta to kill him while he was stealing the Ver. 6, but she released him instead, he witnessed her boarding Mecha Telesdon. He begs her to stop as Seta, dying, tells her to seize revenge. She goes to fire, but her will is already gone.
Seta holds her and activates a suicide bomb, but Doigaki pulls it off and ZERO gets it away. Seta gives up and tells Saya to live as she pleases. He seems about to say something about who supplied him the materials for the armour, when he is shot and killed by Darkgone, a general of the Emperor of Dimensions, who flees.
Despite her sorrow Saya returns to the stage and sings, for her loved one gone so far away.
(Diorama details 1: Ver. 6 falls to it's knees after battling SEVEN, who sheathes his Specium Sword. 2: SEVEN wields the Troy Total against Mecha Telesdon.)

Can I Have This Dance?
This is how Kevin got Red to go with him to prom. Change my mind. Jk, you can have opinions too on how he did it, I would love to hear them-
And also, I tried my best with the dancing. I really did but it's hard for me to describe something like that.
Last thing, I just used translators for the Klingon bits. I don't know Klingon bc I am not a Star Trek fan myself, so yeah.
---
This was it. This was the day Kevin was going to ask Red out. Not to be his girlfriend, no. He has yet to do that. What he's really nervous for is asking Red out to prom. He has never done any form of asking a girl to be his partner for any type of event, so he was very nervous.
But he was very determined to ask Red to be his date to prom. Sure, it was a bit subtle with him simply giving her a text to come over to his house to help him with something but it worked and now the girl was heading over to his house.
He was super thankful that his mother wasn't around because she's usually pretty nosey whenever the two were together. Her and the rest of his family were out helping his twin sister Esther with buying a dress.
After a few more minutes of waiting, Kevin heard a knock on the door and was quick to open it, knowing who it was already. He couldn't help but smile as he opened the door. "Hey, Red... Glad you could make it..." He said softly.
The girl happily smiled back at him. "Of course I could make it! I'll always come over whenever my best friend needs help with something! So, can I come in already?"
Kevin lost his train of thought as soon as she started talking, completely getting dazed as he stared at her lovingly which made him jump slightly when she asked if she could come into his house. "Huh? Oh, sure! Of course! Right this way!" He moved to the side and motioned with his hand for her to enter.
Red happily entered his house with a smile, Kevin closing the door behind her. "Alright! I'm in no rush but I need to know immediately. Just what did you need help with that you needed me for it?"
"Okay!" Kevin nervously clapped his hands together then lightly ran to his couch where he had three coats laid on top. "So, which one do you think I should wear?" He brought up the options for her to see.
"Oh! You need help with something for prom! I see now! It makes sense with it coming up soon..." She giggled as she walked towards him, making his heart skip a beat. "And you need my help with this specifically because?"
"Well, isn't it obvious? You're my best friend and the only girl I can trust with this..." Then he gave her a soft smile. "Plus, you're gonna have a pretty dress, so I wanna look right along with my best friend..."
Red couldn't help but blush at his words, looking at the options she had. "Pretty dress, huh? I'll just be wearing a simple black dress, really. Much like the black sundress I'm wearing. Only with more sleeves and minus the purple cardigan. Nothing that exciting..." She shrugged. "Also, never been asked to a prom... Not yet, at least." Then she proceeded to pick the light blue color tux that looked like the same color as his usual blue jacket. "Because I know you look good in this shade of blue, I choose this one!"
Kevin quickly shook his head at her first sentence. "Are you kidding me? You can make any plain dress work because of how beautiful you are!" His words just made her blush more. "Also, what? No way! Not one person has asked you out yet?" Red shook her head along with saying a nope. "That's impossible!" Kevin widened his eyes at the revelation. Sure, he was beyond relieved to hear the news because he gets to ask her out but it was still a shock to him.
"Uh... And why is that impossible considering I don't even have a boyfriend right now either?" She asked with a raised eyebrow as she took off the tux from it's hanger.
Kevin opened his mouth and quickly shut it. "Note to self: Maybe ask her to be your girlfriend right after asking her to be your date to prom." He thought to himself before speaking up again. "Heh, okay. You make a good point but like you're the third most popular girl in our school, Rebecca McArthur! I mean, Red! Sorry about that..."
Red let out a small giggle along with shaking her head as she helps him wear the tux. "Pft, it's fine. Anyway, I need you to go on because I am not getting your point. Like I said before, don't have a boyfriend."
"What's not to get? A lot of guys find you really pretty hence why it's shocking to find out you don't have a date yet to prom... And why you don't have a boyfriend but I might change that soon..." Kevin quickly added his last sentence quietly as he slipped on the tux, buttoning it up before looking back at Red.
"Uhh, Kev? What was that last sentence?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. "I could have sworn I heard you say something..."
"Never mind it." He waved his hand dismissively, hoping she would drop it which she did. "Let's just change the topic. Starting with what do you think of the tux? Do I look good with it on?"
Red was quick to respond with a nod. "Yeah, of course. Kevin, you always look so handsome..." She said with a smile as she got closer to him, making him blush. "Though maybe it can help if you fix you hair a bit..." The blush on his face got even more prominent as the red head started messing with his hair.
"Maybe?" He chuckled then took a deep breathe in, getting ready for the big question. Well, one of many big questions he plans to ask her. "So, umm... I know you've never been asked to a prom nor have I ever been to a dance. Much less a prom, either..." He then started grabbing something from his pockets. "But I'm hoping these can be a good start for the both of us?"
Red stopped with fixing his hair as she raised an eyebrow while Kevin reached into his pockets then letting out a small gasp once she saw him pull out two tickets for prom. "I... Kevin, are you?" She looked up at him with wide eyes, not wanting to assume anything.
He gave a nod, smiling softly at her which she returned. "Yeah, there's no one else I'd rather go to prom with than you, Red." After he said that, the both of them started to blush. "So, umm... You think we're gonna have to waltz? Or anything involving us dancing together? Because uh... I don't really know how to do that..." He let out a small chuckle while rubbing the back of his neck.
Red couldn't help but giggle a little at his dilemma, making his heart race again. "All I really know is that when I was a little girl, my dad would love to dance me around the living room with me on his toes. That's the closest thing to a waltz I've ever done in my entire life..." Then she grabbed hold of his hand. "But don't worry, I can teach you how it's done!"
"Wait, now?! You're gonna teach me how to do a waltz now?!" He nervously asked as he followed the girl, who had both his hand and heart, outside to his backyard.
"Well, yeah! I did say I would help my best friend with anything, right?" Red giggled, stopping as soon as they got outside. "Plus, I'm more than happy to teach you!"
"Yeah, but... Why did we need go outside for it? Wouldn't practicing inside be better?" He asked as he was still standing pretty close to his house unlike the redhead who happily spun around in the middle of his backyard.
"Aww, come on! I just know you'll love it, so come here already!" She giggled, finally stopping from spinning around then putting a hand on her head. "Oh, God... I probably shouldn't have spun that much..."
Kevin shook his head, letting out a few small laughs as he walked towards the girl. "Pft. Yeah, you probably shouldn't have. How are you supposed to teach me now that you're dizzy?"
Red had on a big grin as she turned to face Kevin, making him confused. "Simple! With the power of music! Remember the dancing rooftop scene from High School Musical 3?" She pulled her phone out of her pockets.
He let out a scoff, rolling his eyes. "Remember it? I practically have it memorized with how many times me and my friends have watch those damn movies back in fourth grade..."
"Then I guess that means you'll have no problem following along to this song, right?" She started to play the song on her phone.
"No way! You have that song in your phone?" Kevin looked at the girl in bewilderment as she cranked up the volume and set it down on the grass.
She simply gave him a playful eyeroll at his question. "I have all the songs from all three movies, I am still that obsessed with just the songs, really. Now, hush and..." She cleared her throat. "Take my hand... " She started to sing along with the song, putting her hand out which Kevin happily took.
"Take a breath... " Kevin continued to do what the song said. "Pull me close..." However, he got a bit flustered when he got pulled Red close to him, making him nervously look away. "And take one step..."
Red noticed how nervous he was being, making her move his face to look into her eyes. The look in her eyes were telling him that it was okay and that she'll help him the best she could. "Keep your eyes locked to mine... And let the music be your guide..." She put one of his hands on her waist and her hands on his shoulder, their free hands intertwined with the others.
"Won't you promise me?" Kevin eventually joined in on the singing along with Red which made the two of them smile as they began spin around. "Now won't you promise me? That you'll never forget..."
We'll keep dancing To keep dancing wherever we go next
"It's like catching lightning..." Soon, it was like muscle memory to Kevin as he effortlessly lifted the girl up and twirled her around much like in the movie. "The chances of finding someone like you..." They were practically Troy and Gabriella with how accurate they were doing the same dance in the movie.
As their dance was nearly coming to an end, the sprinklers on Kevin's backyard turned on but the two simply continued to dance and sing despite getting wet.
"So can I have this dance? Can I have this dance? Can I have this dance?" They didn't have a care in the world as they continued to dance, a wide smile on both of their faces and laughs could be heard from them as Kevin started to spin the girl around. "Can I have this dance? Can I have this dance?" Soon, they started to slow down as the song was finished, their eyes completely locked together.
Red started to giggle once she let the water flow down her face. "Mmm~ This dance we just did has got to be the most amazing dance I have ever done... And it's only our first one..."
Kevin gave her a soft look as he gently pushed her wet hair back. "So, I just realized... I never got a confirmation from you for prom... Is it a yes? Are you going to prom with me?"
She giggled some more, playfully shaking her head as she rested her forehead against his. "HIjá, Kevin... HIjá..."
This made the male let out a loud gasp, giving her an amazed look. "That's Klingon! You know Klingon?!"
She shook her head some more. "Only a bit, really. So, I'll just let my actions speak for me if that's okay with you..." She leaned closer to him, cupped his cheek then gently pressed her lips onto his.
Kevin, not expecting it at all, froze for a bit but soon found himself relaxing into the kiss. After just a few seconds though, he pulled away from her. "Oh, geez! We just kissed!"
"Yeah, our first kiss... And it was so romantic..." She said softly as she hugged him tightly. "QaparHa'qu', Kevin..."
Kevin opened his mouth but quickly shut it as he hugged her back. "I love you too, Red..."
She hummed happily once she heard the words come out of his mouth. "And just so you don't have to struggle to ask me later, I say yes to being your girlfriend too..."
"Perfect... Can I have another dance then?" He smiled softly at her as he offered her a hand this time.
Red smiled back at him as she took his hand. "It would be my pleasure..."
