Roughly once every four years I ponder the alternate timeline where I didn't get scared and quit college rugby after a single practice
#everyone was cool i was just intimidated coming from softball and karate into a full-contact team sport#after one practice i was like 'this is not for me' and didn't go back#and i do feel this way during most olympics. but especially after watching a bunch of women's rugby yesterday and today lol#maybe this'll be the year i finally get buff. im realizing that i really need to get regular exercise so im looking for stuff to do#I've enjoyed softball a lot this year and last but it's only in the spring/summer (our season just ended)#i wasn't really able to play last fall bc my work schedule gets crazy in sep/oct and i work some weekends#gyms are so fucking expensive and i really prefer having a structured activity to just free workout time#i've tried a couple of apps (just started using a new one that seems promising) but i can never stick to them as well as a team or class#i gotta figure out what sports run in the winter and where the chiller recreational teams are#i do feel like i lucked out with my softball league. it's not so casual that it's a boozefest but not so competitive that it becomes unfun#some of my softball teammates have talked about doing basketball together and like.#im a good sport im willing to try most things despite being fat and slow but i am Extremely not built for basketball lmao#idk idk. i just turned 30 last week and have started having trouble sleeping in the last few months#regular moderate exercise will not solve all my problems but it will probably help#j rambles

I think Steve needs a secret creative hobby that he springs on the group, surprising everyone.
Sometimes, it can be a little depressing to believe that everyone you love sees you as this one guy, this dumb jock. Intellectually, he knows that the kids and Robin, Nance, and Eddie don't think he's stupid, but that doesn't make the feeling go away.
What if his mom had put him in a ballroom dancing class when he was younger? From age 7 to 12, he took dancing through an independent studio with the other rich kids. It started with ballroom, which continued into swing-dancing. He loved it.
And Steve was good.
He was fluid and graceful, an absolute natural the instructor would remark to his mother when she would come to pick him up. In fact, they were picking kids to participate in the upcoming tournament for the youth category, and Steve was a perfect candidate, the instructor said.
That was until his dad made the executive decision to pull Steve out and force him into sports after catching Steve dancing with his mom in the kitchen. Watching his son twirling around with Susan Harrington, a small indulgent smile on her face, was the final straw for Richard.
"No son of mine is going to prance around like that, like a little fairy," he snarled as he dragged Steve away from the kitchen, his firm white-knuckle grip holding Steve's small arm as they made their way up the stairs to his room.
Steve tried not to make a sound as he covered his ears to the yelling match taking place in room below him.
Steve ended up in little league the next day.
Steve still practiced though, on his own.
It wasn't as though he hadn't made friends in that class, kids who kept on with it.
He missed it, he missed them. He missed how he felt when dancing.
It was freeing.
Carla Neilson taught him the new steps, things she continued to learn while Steve played baseball, basketball, and eventually made the swim team in highschool.
Swimming would probably be the closest he would get to that feeling of gliding along the floor, that grace and fluidity never really leaving him.
He had been a decent player at one time because of his quick feet, but that was before Billy Hargrove rolled into town. Steve never quite learned how to plant his feet because dancing always kept him moving, Hargrove seemed to enjoy pointing out how truly 'fairy-like' he was as he made his way across the court. Those words, the same words his father had hissed at him, all those years ago left him cold and hurt.
He stops dancing after that.
It's not until years later, after Vecna, after Billy dies and his Father disowns him, after he kisses Eddie for the first time and he finally feels like he can breath again that the group finds out.
It's at a party. Everyone of age is a little tipsy or faded at this point in the evening and playing a question game, the kids roll their eyes at their older friends antics and stick to the Nintendo across the living room of Steve and Eddie's apartment.
The question of, 'What is your hidden talent,' comes up and everyone takes their turn.
Robin recites the alphabet backwards, not blinking or pausing the entire way which everyone applauds for once she's finished.
Nancy does a quick handstand and takes three steps backward before dropping her legs back to the ground, she curtsies with a sly smile and laughs as she sits next to Robin again who is staring at Nancy like shes never seen her before.
Eddie thinks for a moment before lifting his hand to his mouth and blows out an impressively loud whistle that prompts Mike to tell them all off for being loud.
Jonathan blows a giant smoke ring while Argyle moonwalks around the living room, earning the pair of them a chorus of woops and applause.
Everyone turns to Steve once Argyle drops back to his seat next to Jonathan, "Alright brochacho you're up man," he says with a hazy smile.
Steve thinks for a moment, looking around at everyone, all of these people who love him, and makes a decision.
"Uh, yeah okay, I've got one," he says slowly before standing up from the loveseat he's sharing with Eddie, "but I'll need a volunteer and some music".
"Oh my God," Robin stage whispers to Nancy, "is he going to do magic right now? Steven Harrington can you do magic??"
Steve snorts and rolls his eyes, "I think I found my volunteer," he holds out his hand for Robin to take as Eddie stands up to turn on their second-hand record player they got from Uncle Wayne as a house warming.
"Uh, one of mine Eds," Steve says with a slight shake to his voice, "something with a beat".
"Oh shit," Robin chokes out as Steve tugs her close. She nearly stumbles, but his arms hold her up.
Eddie smirks like it's a challenge and pulls out Whitney Houston, earning a smile from Jonathan and a small, 'really?' from Nancy.
Argyle laughs, "Heck Yeah man, Whitney rocks dude, turn that shit up!"
Steve smiles and takes a deep breath, his heart is racing but he doesn't care in this moment, he looks at Eddie who is grinning at him, a slightly curious look on his face.
And it's like riding a bike, he leads Robin across the small space twirling and dipping her as she squeals and tries to follow.
Steve probably could have picked a slightly less clumsy volunteer, but he loves Robin and showing her, showing them all, this part of himself after hiding it for so long just means the world to him.
He keeps his own feet fast, keeping the beat but moving Robin where she needs to be as they glide over the carpet, he spins her out and then back into his arms as the song ends, they are both breathing heavily by the time the last note rings out and Robin can't contain her hands from smacking into Steve's chest as she yells, "Who the fuck are you! Dingus how could you hide this!"
Steve blushes as Eddie comes up behind him to hook his head over his shoulder as his arms come up to wrap around Steve's waist.
"Fancy footwork dude," Argyle says nodding at Jonathan who is looking at Steve with fascination.
"When did you learn to dance?" Nancy asks, her voice soft and kind, as though she knows exactly how big this is for him.
"I will accept the fact that you did not pick me to dance just now if I can be your partner next time," Eddie says into Steve's ear, letting his teeth graze the lobe slightly making Steve shiver and laugh.
El and Max refuse to let him sit down for the rest of the night, insisting that he do that spinning move with each of them until all of the kids demand a turn.
Even Mike.
And he loves them all, happy to have finally shared this piece of himself with all of them. His heart is full.

Young (Tennis) Love
Request from anon: So reader(female teenager it's not a problem if she's adopted or not) plays tennis since childhood(ok tennis rules and it's self indulgent)and now there's a big championship in DC and ofc the whole team is there to cheer for her. So she wins and while everyone congratulate her with derek being so proud of his babygirl, her crush comes up to her to congratulate her. They are giggling and slightly flirting with each other while the team watches this interaction stifling their laugh at Derek's shocked reaction. And she explains to them later on and derek makes a mental note to have a "talk" with her.
Derek Morgan x daughter!reader
Summary: After winning a tennis match, your dad, Derek, and his team aren’t the only ones there to congratulate you.
A/N: First, I apologize for this being so overdue. Life has been kicking my ass. Second, I know nothing about tennis, so I hope this is okay. I changed the plot a tiny bit because I didn’t want to keep you waiting any longer.
CW: alcohol consumption (it’s Hotch and Rossi. Still sober), the BAU women are the best adoptive aunts, Derek is a protective dad, I think that’s it.
---
Derek Morgan had been shocked when you were five years old and chose tennis out of all the sports in the world. Seriously… why couldn't you have picked basketball (though he would have quit his job and coached you all the way to the WNBA himself) or baseball (he knew enough to get you through high school) or soccer (at least then he could have been a little league coach)? Instead, you picked a sport he, himself, had never cared for.
Truly he only had himself to blame. While in line at the store, he had spent a second too long ogling at Serena Williams on the cover of a sports magazine. He was enchanted. You were enchanted. And the next thing he knew, Derek Morgan was adding a pink children's tennis racket to the cart.
It all payed off though- the classes you took as a kid where all your dad could do was sit on the sidelines, the weekends spent on the court where he tried his best to help but kept messing up, the late-night pick ups after you’d spent hours practicing, the even longer weekends filled with tournaments watching the sport that he eventually learned to appreciate for you - because you were playing in the finals of the east coast championship.
It took every ounce of control your dad had, not to be cheering as loudly for you as possible. He watched you, his baby girl, the same one who had carried around that little pink racket like a teddy bear, prepare to do the most important serve of your life thus far. Penelope sat next to him, holding his arm to keep him from springing forward. JJ and Emily were sitting on either side of Spencer, who was very quietly explaining to them the physics of the game, though neither one of the women were paying attention to him. Hotch and Rossi were sitting back in their seats. They were sipping on some very expensive whiskey that Rossi had snuck in, looking a little too much like they were trying to recreate Wimbledon.
You swung with speed and your opponent couldn’t catch it in time. A double bounce meant another point for you. Derek held his breath, waiting for the umpire to call the score. He was too nervous and excited to remember it himself.
“40-30.” To you. One more point and you’d win the whole thing.
He saw you take in a deep breath before serving, and the game began. You and your opponent wasted no time, getting into the nitty-gritty fast. At one point, you almost missed and Penelope let out a muffled gasp. Still, you went on without getting flustered and came back faster and stronger. All those early morning workouts you had done with your dad were paying off. When your opponent began to tire, you were still light on your feet. The ball came at you at a perfect angle, and you took your chance - sending the ball back at a speed your opponent could no longer handle after going too hard at the beginning. She swung back desperately and it landed out of bounds.
The umpire called the game, with you as the clear winner, and the entire BAU team erupted. Hotch and Rossi got to their feet to clap. Spencer bounced on the balls of his feet with a simple “wooo” as Emily and JJ jumped up more excitedly beside him, cheering with delight. Penelope squealed with joy. And Derek, well… he was cheering too, with happy tears streaming down his smiling face.
You beamed up at him, taking in the biggest moment of your life so far. Every late night and early morning, every party you missed to get in extra practice time, the horrible cardio workouts, and the long days spent training in the summer heat or bone-chilling winters were worth it. Your opponent came over to congratulate you, and you shook her hand politely. Your coach, who was standing by the locker room, ran over to wrap you in a hug and escorted you into the locker room.
“She’s growing up,” Hotch sighed. The rest of the team nodded in agreement, but Derek was still watching where you had disappeared behind the locker room door, his eyes filled with pride.
“Let’s go see your baby girl,” Garcia said, putting a gentle hand on his arm. Derek turned to her with a smile, and a happy tear. She hugged him tight, before they followed the rest of the team out of the stadium.
---
The team stood outside the players’ entrance with the rest of the gathering families. With such a huge event, they were having difficulty tracking you down and in their line of work, they couldn’t help but think of the worst.
“I’m sure she’s fine, Derek,” JJ said, trying to comfort him.
Yeah yeah… I know…” But Derek could still feel the tension in his chest and hear the panic in his tone. But he wouldn’t relax until he saw you emerge from the crowd. You were looking around for them, trophy in hand and bag slung over your shoulder, scanning the mass amounts of parents talking with their kids in search of your own unconventional little family.
It was Rossi who spotted you first. “Hey! There she is!” He sounded like a proud grandpa.
Your dad smiled brightly and called to you. “Baby girl!”
The sound of your nickname caught your attention and you turned to see the entire team standing there with open arms. A beaming smile spread across your face as you ran over to them. Derek caught you in his arms, spinning you around while the rest of the team clapped and shared their congratulations with you.
“I’m so proud of you,” your dad whispered, on the verge of happy tears.
“Thank you,” you whispered back.
“My turn to hug the little champion!” Garcia squealed with excitement. You received hugs from everyone on the team (including Reid, surprisingly), thanking them for coming to cheer you on.
You’d just finished giving out the last of your thank you embraces when someone called your name. The entire team turned to see a boy standing a little ways away, waving shyly in your direction. Your face heated and you turned to your dad. “I’ll be right back.”
He nodded, taking your bag and trophy from you before watching you walk away.
“What’s that about?” Emily asked.
Derek didn’t bother to answer. He was too busy watching the doe-eyed expression, shy smile, and rather ditzy giggle you had as you talked to the young man. All the signs of young first love.
JJ sighed. “Oh, I remember those days,” she said in a teasing manner. “And if he’s coming to her sports games you know it’s serious.”
Penelope joined them just in time to watch the young man hand you a flower, making your smile brighter.
“Oh!” she cooed. “That is so sweet!”
Emily smirked. “Looks like someone’s in lov-”
“Prentiss,” Derek cut her off. “Don’t.”
The women of the BAU giggled at your dad’s reaction, giving one another knowing looks. In their heads they were already planning a girls night out to ask you about everything. Derek, on the other hand, made a mental note to give you a different kind of talk later.

Jason doesn’t strike me as the type to care about team sports but I think it could be good for him to get recruited for basketball at the park or some sort of adult softball or baseball league. He would get to have something in common to bond with regular people over. He could to prove his competence and physical ability and be a valued part of something, an opportunity to learn healthy ways to work with others where things get resolved without violence! No one has any power over anyone else and everyone is treated as an adult and an equal! I’m not a doctor but I prescribe rec league sports 1-2 times weekly.
It started when Jason fell in with a group down at Robinson Park whose regular Tuesday night scrimmage overlapped with his weekly tea with Ivy. Jason didn’t even like soccer, but when Derek sent a rogue ball crashing through one of Ivy’s prized rose-bushes, Jason had to claim the group was with him in order to save them all from her wrath. From there, Suze badgered him into joining her adult rec league. They hosted a tournament every spring, and her team was down player (broken leg from Freeze’s rampage through North Gotham—seeing as Jason played a starring role in the inciting incident, he felt more than a little responsible). During halftime at the quarterfinals, Lu couldn’t stop gushing about her plans for coaching that summer, and, naturally, Jason was curious. As it turned out, all the municipal parks hosted summer soccer leagues for the local kids except for the one on the border between the Bowery and the Alley. Sure, the thing was more weeds than grass at this point, and both the goals were missing nets, but it was field nonetheless. When he asked one of his more reliable henchmen, Tom, who had both a literal pack of children and hadn’t shut up doing the World Cup the year prior, it turned out the parks department couldn’t find an adult without a felony record who could commit to regular practices. Tom shuttled his kids to Concord three times a week to play (which conveniently also solved the mystery of why Tom was always trying to swap shifts around after the schedules were posted). So that’s how Jason ended up coaching a dozen scrappy 9-13 year olds through the basics of soccer every Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday from 3-5 PM under a newly created alias. Somewhere between anonymously donating an excess of equipment to the youth league and cashing in a favor with Ivy to rehab the field’s grass, Jason decided maybe he really did like soccer.

baseball!seventeen reacting to the new see-through uniform pants
A/N: THIS IS MOSTLY SFW I PROMISE! Taking a quick break from the D&D series to bring you this because it made me laugh. Credits to my girl @au-writer who helped come up with these
current masterlist | fic recs
baseball svt part 1 | baseball svt part 2
Tumblr media
FOR CONTEXT: Major League Baseball (the MLB) recently switched over their uniform manufacturers. The new manufacturer is, quite simply, VERY bad. Not only are the actual jerseys terrible quality, but the pants that players have to wear are pretty much completely see-through. It is a (hilarious) disaster, and therefore, these headcanons were born. For more context, read HERE.
Tumblr media
Refuses to wear the pants: Seungcheol, Joshua Seungkwan
Seungcheol, being the leader if of the team, sees all the issues with the pants and refuses to wear them out of rage. He runs a CLASSY team. He secretly also refuses because he knows one squat into his catching position and those pants will be ripped to shreds. He's the first to take it up with the players union and argue that the team will not be playing with those ridiculous pants. Joshua, while sometimes a chaotic gremlin, knows his limits, and he is not willing to let his mom see him do his job with so much visible because of the pants. He will still absolutely tease the hell out of the members who chose to wear the pants, but no way you are catching him wearing them himself. He is also taking bets on who rips their pants first. Seungkwan also refuses to wear the pants, echoing pretty much everything Seungcheol says with extra sass, like "YES" "YOU TELL THEM". He has dignity as well as personality and he intends to keep both.
Comes up with a creative solution to wear the pants: Wonwoo, Woozi, Seokmin, Minghao, Vernon
Wonwoo outright hates the see-through pants, and the only way he will wear them is if he wears his team-issued jackets around his waist for the whole game/practice. He doesn't care if its not regulation or if he gets fined. If he has to wear the pants, he will be doing it his way - jackets on. Woozi, while pissed, accepts his fate knowing that Seungcheol will probably fight the league until its fixed. Until then, he's doubling up on pants and underwear to try and keep some dignity. Seokmin will let out a horrified scream after putting on the pants and seeing that they are very see through. He will see that some of the others are doing double-pants and other various solutions and will join in, but likely with more flare. Like, it will be glaringly obvious that he is trying to hide how see-through the pants are. He will also be the first to rip through them. Minghao sees the complete see-through-ness of the pants and knew something had to be done, so he takes his pants to a tailor to get them reinforced and make them less see-through. Everyone else is jealous because they didn't think of that first. Vernon, being the chillest human ever, just decides to wear extra pants over the see-through ones, from other baseball pants to swim trunks - whatever he can find just to cover up for the time being. He will absolutely walk out to the field during their first spring training game wearing basketball shorts over his pants.
Wears the pants: Jeonghan, Jun, Hoshi Mingyu, Chan
Jeonghan decides to wear the pants because he knows that he's not going to be seen that much anyway, and honestly he's got other things to worry about than his pants being see-through (like his next bullpen cat nap or how to beat Joshua at cards during their next travel day) Jun, an unbothered king, just rolls with it. He's like "welp, another day of the baseball, time to get dressed" and embraces the see-through. Jun doesn't realize they are see through until he is out on the field doing warm-ups and by that point he's like "eh why not". He actually enjoys how breezy they are. Hoshi could be categorized with the "creative solution" team, but honestly he's just so excited to play that he really doesn't care about how see-through the pants are. He will absolutely try doing high-kicks and back-flips as a means of testing just how see through the pants are. He will also use this opportunity to push the horangae agenda with pride. Minimal shame is seen from him. Mingyu wears the see-through pants. He doesn't realize they are see-through at first. The team tries to convince him they are not see-through and it almost works. It gets to a point where he just says "screw it" and embraces the see through. He knows he looks good, but he will be shyly blushing the entire time. Chan, despite Seungcheol's protests and teasing from various teammates, wears the pants with (mostly) confidence. He's a grown man, he can do what he wants. If they are see-through, they are see through. He's there to play baseball, that's pretty much it. Jeonghan does try to get him to cover up, but he refuses.

Paul Tenorio at The Athletic:
Major League Soccer is considering overhauling its calendar, flipping to a fall-spring season with breaks in the summer and winter, multiple sources briefed on the league’s discussions tell The Athletic. MLS executives and owners have been weighing the changes to the calendar, which they believe will help maximize the league’s participation in the global transfer market, among other benefits. The hope is for the league to institute the changes as early as the summer of 2026 coming out of the World Cup.
MLS executive vice president of sporting product and competition Nelson Rodriguez told The Athletic it is still “too soon” to know if MLS will institute changes or what those changes could be. “We have been engaged, really, since January, and it’s been very extensive and exhaustive and deliberate,” Rodriguez said. “It’s still too early. We’re still asking questions. We’re still collecting and analyzing some data. We’re still formulating models. Some of those models are for formats themselves, some of those models are how to assess the information that we get.” A change would certainly impact MLS’ competition in the American sports calendar. The MLS Cup playoffs, which started this week, are up against the MLB playoffs, college football and the NFL, as well as the NBA, college basketball and NHL regular seasons. Under the new calendar, the playoffs would likely be played in April and May, with most of the competition coming from the Stanley Cup playoffs and the start of the MLB season.
[...]
Why make changes?
Altering the schedule could have multiple benefits from a competitive standpoint, from syncing up the league’s transfer windows with the European calendar to maximizing the visibility of the playoffs in the American sports calendar. The vast majority of global transfer business is done in the summer window. That currently falls in the middle of the MLS season, which creates conflicts for teams hoping to buy and sell players — a problem that has been felt more acutely as MLS teams have become more active in the international market. Teams that want to sell players in the summer, when they are at their highest value, must weigh losing some of their best players in the middle of the season with little time to replace them. The MLS and Leagues Cup schedule also means summer signings arrive with fewer than 10 games left in the regular season. Sporting directors looking to buy players during the summer window have also complained that the U.S. summer window closes too early to fully leverage the market. With the MLS window closing before most European windows are shut, teams often find that players want to wait to see all of their options and it causes MLS teams to lose out on potential signings. MLS clubs essentially cannot benefit from the dominos that fall later in the transfer window.
[...]
How would the schedule change?
With the changes, the MLS season would begin, like most European leagues, in early August. The first portion of the schedule would run through mid-December before taking a winter break, likely around five weeks long. The season would resume in early February and run through the spring, with MLS Cup in late May. A schedule change would flip the MLS playoffs and MLS Cup to a less crowded portion of the American sports schedule. A warm-weather MLS Cup, with less competition from other sports leagues, is certainly appealing to all. A fall-spring calendar would also mean that MLS, like the rest of the world, would pause the season during all FIFA international windows, which would be a welcome change for most teams and players.
“The playoffs are the most valuable piece of real estate in a league season, and playoffs that would be spring or summer suggests a different dynamic,” Rodriguez said. “It starts with (the fact that the) weather is closer to optimal for all 30 clubs, your stadium conflicts are a little bit less, competition with other North American sports is different and you’re more aligned with at least the European rhythm of football. So, those are factors. They also come with their own sets of tradeoffs.” The league is also weighing the possibility of organizing teams into divisions instead of conferences and playing part of the schedule as intra-conference and intra-divisional play only, with playoff spots on the line. The second half of the season would then help determine full-season playoff seeding and spots.
What are the drawbacks?
The league would no longer play from around June 1 through July 15 and it would replace those weeks of games with games from early November through mid-December. That might be welcomed by fans in cities like Dallas, Orlando, Miami, Houston and Austin, but it would be difficult for markets like Toronto, Chicago, Minnesota, Salt Lake City, Montreal and New England, which see the summer months as their most attractive and profitable weeks of the season.
[...] There are other hurdles to figure out, as well. The Leagues Cup is currently played for one month in the middle of the summer, interrupting the regular season. MLS is weighing different formats and timing for the Leagues Cup that would fit into this new calendar, including potentially playing the tournament in January and February with teams in pods in warmer-weather locales like California, Texas and Florida. The league would also have to determine how the U.S. Open Cup and Canadian Championship fits into the new calendar, though MLS pulled back its participation in the Open Cup this season. These issues could end up holding up the calendar switch. The league previously held discussions on a potential change in competition format in 2013 and 2014, but opted not to make a change. With the World Cup around the corner, however, discussions about the calendar now feel like they have real momentum — though Rodriguez cautioned it was simply too soon to know.
The MLS could possibly change to the fall-spring calendar the majority of the world uses.

Okey-dokes, we now have the shapeshifting tomboy of the team, Katie.
Bio under the cut.
Katelyn "Katie" (Munkston) Merrimouser is a spunky and tomboyish 8-year-old chipmunk who is keen on sports. Whatever the season and whatever the sport, she wants a part of the action! There are two main rules on her, though; first, she has to stick to one sport per season (Willow Ball (soccer with a willow ball) in the fall, basketball in the winter, and softball in the spring). And second, she cannot use her powers during a game, she needs to rely on her normal chipmunk form when competing against other children.
Luckily, she can easily avoid shapeshifting when playing in her youth leagues; however, when just goofing off at home or with friends, she'll shift into another form to making bopping a ball around a little more interesting. Her forms range from various animals to various objects, and she could use any form depending on the situation. She'll morph through several forms during a fight--though often it's because she's indecisive about what would work against the villain. Among her favorites is her bird form, as it enables her to fly, and much like Apple, she enjoys flying (heck, the two like to fly together and play games in the sky).
She hates turning into vehicles, though--she lost her birth family in a car accident that she only survived thanks to turning into a fly, and it took her a while to get in a car again. Sometimes she wonders why she was the lucky one who was born with powers while the rest of her bio family wasn't and couldn't escape that dreadful wreck.
Another power which tends to surprise people is her healing factor--hence why she typically walks away from a fight with little injury despite half the time turning into a blunt object to give and take hard hits. She can also heal other people, so her teammates (both in the Squad or her various sports teams) get the same benefit.
This healing factor does come with a fair bit of cockiness on her part, though, and sometimes a little lack of empathy. Mix that into sports where she can get competitive, and at times she would end up playing rough and hurting the other kid. She's quick to heal if there's a broken bone, but a skinned knee or a bruise is small potatoes that she'll scoff at. Often this gets her in trouble, and she has to be reminded by both Mom and Coach that other kids don't fight monsters or supervillains, so they're not as tough as she is, so cut them some slack!
Still, her energy is often appreciated when she's out giving a pep talk to someone else and helping them through a tough task (i.e. helping Apple with flying, helping Destiny talk more, etc.), being their biggest cheerleader. She's typically hanging out with the boys of the Squad--playing video games, pulling pranks, and more--but she thinks Bita's cool, is trying to be a good big sister to Destiny (despite not caring for girly things), and is close with Lucia, with the two often playing outside together. She's just a girl who likes to have fun.
She does have one major pet peeve--people keep confusing her for a boy.
~~~
Katie was originally created by my sister, @knighta3, though she's been doing her own creative things and I have custody of Katie these days. She originally was a dwarf hamster with the power of mimicry and the hero name of "Copy Katie", but A) hamster oversaturation, so she was turned into a chipmunk for more variety, and B) giving her the power to copy others' powers struck me as a little OP, so sis and I agreed to change her powers. Not entirely sure what her personality was then, though I guess she was always a tomboy.
Green NBA Star (Midori Takamine Side Story)
Season: Spring
Location: Takamine Greengrocer
Tumblr media
Midori: Another day, another slay.
Morisawa-senpai said he wanted to see me after school and it sounded like an emergency. Is it because I skipped practice yesterday?
I hope he doesn't make me watch another season of None Piece while rambling about Boro for hours again... Just thinking about it makes me want to vanish into nothing...
Location: Schoolyard
Midori: So, uh, how did you find out?
Chiaki: Find out about what?
Midori: ...
Chiaki: ...
Midori: Uhh... April fools...?
Chiaki: HAHAHA! You're always so funny, Takamine! You should be a comedian as a side gig one day!
Midori: I think I'd rather be water boarded.
Chiaki: Anyways, I bear exciting news!
I have drafted you into the NBA!!
Midori: ...
Are you fucking with me again?
Chiaki: Nope! You're gonna be as big as JeLon Brames from Saint Peanutsburg himself, I just know it!
Midori: Who??
Chiaki: JeLon Brames! The basketball player famous for being in the film "Cosmic Jam"!
Midori: Somehow I don't think that's what he's famous for...
Chiaki: It'll be a blast, Takamine! Just have fun! Come on and slam! And welcome to the jam!
Midori: Is drafting me into the NBA without my permission even legal?
Chiaki: Nope! But what are you gonna do, undraft yourself? HAHAHA!
Midori: Cowabummer...
Chiaki: Come on, Takamine, trust me even if it's only a little bit! This will be good experience for you!
Midori: I guess...
Chiaki: I'll get you that Tiger-Bear plush you've been oogling at each time I walk you back home if you go.
Midori: Sign me the fuck up. I'm ready to head in.
Chiaki: That's the spirit!!
Location: New York
After the NBA Game
Midori: That was exhausting as hell...
It never really crossed my mind until I was on the flight to here, but when Morisawa-senpai told me he drafted me to play in the NBA, I didn't think about the fact that people play in teams.
Why was I sent on my own and not with the whole basketball club? I'm not even the captain of the basketball club? Why me? Then again, this could be a comeback for giving him a whole box of eggplants for Christmas.
Yeah, I kinda deserved it then. Can't say it wasn't funny though, shit was funny as fuck. "AHH TAKAMINE MASTER ZANDRED IS HERE FOR MEE!!!" lmao
I got off topic. Anyways, it all made sense when I arrived.
JeLon Brames is, apparently, a big fan of me and wanted to do a meet and greet but was too busy with this NBA stuff to come to Japan and see me there.
Why didn't Morisawa-senpai just say that? Why'd he have to hype it up like that?
Then again, he technically wasn't wrong in the end... After I mentioned I'm in the basketball club I was asked if I could play with his team for a mock-up game tomorrow. He was chill though and I brought my ass all the way here already so I said sure why not.
Ugh, this is kinda annoying... But, I can't say I'm not excited. You know what? I think I can have a bit of fun here. Yeah...
Next Day, After Mock-Up Game
Midori: Phew, that wasn't so bad actually. Playing with the big league basketball players was pretty fun now that I actually went for it. Everyone said I would be a perfect basketball player. I was flattered and all, but I'd rather be with RYUSEITAI if I have to be honest.
Maybe Morisawa-senpai was in the right having me at a chokehold to join his basketball club and RYUSEITAI. I should be more grateful for all of RYUSEITAI... Just thinking about them makes me miss them more than ever...
Location: Takamine Greengrocer
Midori: (groan) Wh– huh??
Oh, it was all a dream...
Well, wonder what Morisawa-senpai is gonna hit me up with after class today. Would be cool if it was something like the dream I had...
Location: Schoolyard
Midori: So, uh, what's up?
Chiaki: We're watching another season of None Piece. You know exactly what you did.
Midori: Mother fu–
Good News in Sports: Volume One, Issue One.
(PT: Good News In Sports: Volume One, Issue One. End PT).
Are you tired of reading into the bad side of sports culture or seeing the news be nothing but controversy after controversy. Well, this is your checkpoint! Welcome to Good News in Sports! Where we talk about the lighthearted side of sports and athletes, accomplishments and maybe a bit of comedic things that occur in the sport. Just... anything that can make you forget about the messed up culture and the injuries and the dirty hits and your team losing (unless one of these headlines involves your team losing... in that case, sorry about that). Let's get started! Ice Hockey
*Record* attendance in the PWHL, with over 19,825 fans in attendance at Montreal vs Toronto (which has been given the nickname "Battle on Bay Street").
High scoring game alert: The Minnesota Wild beat the Vancouver Canucks 10-7. Yes, you read that correctly. Ten. To. Seven. A total of 17 goals. As well as three different hattricks (One from J.T Miller, another from Kaprizov and another from Joel Eriksson Ek), an event that hasn't occurred since 1992. Jaromir Jagr's No.68 is officially going to the rafters, as the Pittsburgh Penguins retired his number Sunday. ...might I add that was immediately followed by an f-bomb from the mullet man himself ON LIVE TV. Brad Marchand's 1000th game celebration was... certainly interesting to say the least. More emotional than positive (and probably mostly for hawks fans than the rest of the league) but fuck it I'm including it anyway: Hawks fans, I hope you're ready to cry this Sunday. A lot. Well... atleast the refs are honest. Same ref behind the "everyone has a ten minute misconduct" comment too.
Baseball MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL IS BACK BAYBEE, as spring training started Thursday between the Dodgers and Padres (Final score: 14-1 Dodgers. ...yes really).
Basketball Okay. The NBA All-Star was... kind of a let down. But you know what *wasn't* a let down? The NBA vs WNBA Three point challenge between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu! While Stephen ultimately emerged victorious, Sabrina's skills have drawn a lot of praise from many basketball fans.
Brittney Griner's no.42 jersey has been retired by Baylor! Griner's jersey is the seventh to be retired by Baylor.
Motorsports Athletes? Admitting they messed up? Seems unlikely but that's exactly what NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Shane van Gisbergen did after Sunday's Xfinity race.
Tumblr media
Natalie Decker became the first woman since 2013 to lead an Xfinity Series race! Soccer/Association Football
MLS season officially starting back up as their season started Wednesday with Inter Miami and Real Salt Lake (Final score: 2-0 Miami)
Many things to note here! First, what is that lamp. Second, a baseball trophy! So we officially have three sports he played! Assuming he could only do one a season (my school only let us do two a season starting in 2012 I think), that would make swimming a summer sport, basketball the winter sport, and baseball his spring sport. Third, what in the hell is that bottle and why does it look semi suggestive (if a little sharp)
KAT. okay, I cannot thank you enough for sending this to me!
first, that lamp and that weirdly phallic bottle (you're right) look like further evidence that his parents decorated his room without taking his style into consideration. it just looks good and appearances matter in the Harrington ethos. I'm on the older side and it reminds me of what you'd see in a JCPenney catalog in the 80s and early 90s. this was a /look/ at one point and it makes me SHUDDER. (the framed car poster is the only personal touch I've seen of his room, tbh.)
second, the! baseball! trophy! baseball!Steve sets my brain on fire and I am truly so angry that we've been robbed of this. but the jock agenda is very real. Steve Harrington is a 3-sport athlete and thrives on the structure it provides, the competition, the instant gratification and praise! he's good at it, so he doesn't let up. it makes me think of younger Steve playing little league and it makes my heart hurt, honestly. it also really makes me think about Steve post-high school, too. my fiance is a reformed jock and he, and a lot of his friends, struggled for awhile when they were done with organized sports because it's such an anchor for so long and then it's just gone. Steve would absolutely get into a recreational sports league once the world, you know, stops trying to end every year. it really puts a cramp in his baseball season.
This is why BG bought a new house in Phoenix:
The Phoenix Suns and Mercury are making seismic moves to the tune of $100-plus million investment from their team owner.
Mat Ishbia plans to build a 123,000 square foot “campus” that’ll feature a business headquarters for the Suns and Mercury and an exclusive practice facility for the WNBA franchise.
“It’s going to be the best of the best,” Suns and Mercury CEO Josh Bartelstein said.
The facility is scheduled to be completed by next spring. Ishbia confirmed he’s financing the $100-plus million campus that will not require taxpayer’s money.
The campus will be located three blocks from Footprint Center on Lincoln Street within Phoenix’s Warehouse District.
“Being right down the street is great because we can walk there,” CEO Josh Bartelstein said.
“We’ve set a date,” Ishbia said. “This is not like a plan and you see some renderings and you’re like, oh, it’s going to come out in four years. This thing is coming out spring of next year. I think this going to be great.”
The Mercury and Suns have shared the $45-milllion practice facility that was completed going into the 2020-21 season, but Ishbia noted how the Suns and Mercury will no longer have to schedule around each other to practice.
Tumblr media
“Especially in the playoffs,” Ishbia said. “The Mercury’s season starts in May. That’s May, June. We’re going to be hopefully playing a lot of (playoff) basketball.”
The Suns are one of the favorites to win an NBA championship this season with their Big 3 of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal leading the way.
“On the flipside, the Mercury didn’t make the playoffs this year,” Ishbia continued. “Don’t plan on that happening again. They’d be in the playoffs right now and we have the Suns practicing. Let’s go dominate. Let’s build the best Mercury, the best Suns. Let’s dominate together.”
Robert Sarver was the Suns team owner when the $45-million practice facility opened before the season the Suns reached the finals.
Ishbia loves it, he but he pointed out how the Suns locker room and the Mercury locker room aren’t the same size. Ishbia bought the Suns and Mercury from Sarver for a record $4 billion.
“It’s not the same environment,” Ishbia said. “That’s not going on with the way we do things. Think about this, this is a great practice facility. It’s one of the best in the league right now that’s going to be just for the Suns. We’re going to do the exact same thing just for the Mercury."
The Mercury practice facility will have 24/7 access for players and coaches, two practice courts with 10 baskets and several amenities: an “expansive” locker room with “state-of-art technology,” a dedicated chef and kitchen, film, fitness and massage rooms with hydrotherapy including hot and cold pools and underwater treadmills, and a player and family lounge.
“We’re going to create the best environment for the Mercury so it can be on the same pedestal just like the Suns, doing great things and investing in them so we can have the best chance to win WNBA championships by opening it up for the Mercury and making it a great place,” Ishbia said.
The Mercury finished with the WNBA’s worst record last season at 9-31, but having their own facility is a step towards getting the three-time league champions back to familiar winning ways.
“It’s going to be curated towards them,” Bartelstein said. “Anything you could ever need as a player, they’re going to have. From the minute they step in, everything is intentional. That’s their home. That’s where they come every single day. We want our players to be here in-season, out of season getting better and there’s going to be no place better. That’s Mat’s commitment. We’re going to go look at everything. Bring the best of the best here and have players who are going to love going to work every single day.”
Not how I would have said it, but that anon isn’t totally wrong. Look at the Derica Hamby mess- LV didn’t really get punished for all that- a little slap on the wrist. Same with Skylar and Phoenix. Just shows that teams don’t want to deal with this issue. They have to bc of the CBA, but they obviously don’t handle it well. Even tho Breanna won’t give birth, she’s still potentially missing time/rest/focus bc of a baby in season. It’s not something people want to talk, but it is a real issue.
You guys are weird. Making think pieces about people’s pregnancies when you have zero idea of what their fertility journey was like will never not be insensitive. You have no idea how many attempts Marta and Stewie could’ve taken to get pregnant, and it’s none of your business anyway. They play wnba basketball from the spring to the fall, “unfortunately” babies will be born. And considering the fact that these processes can take long, of course they do it in the off season which means the baby will most likely be born in season.
And do NOT even start flooding my inbox with “I’m criticizing the league not Stewie” because the first anon was literally calling her unprofessional for wanting to expand her family. If the league doesn’t care about pregnant women that’s not the players issue, they’re still allowed to have children. Next CBA we gotta hope they do better.
The next dumb ass ask is getting blocked. These fuck ass anons. WNBA tumblr is so full of old and bitter people who think they know everything about everyone goodness gracious.
