6. How do they make up/apologize after an argument?

Hmm let's see well. I think they'd argue like an old married couple, being about things like if the sun is yellow or orange that kinda bs(it's yellow guys) . So ofc those don't need apologizing but for the real fights, I'd think one of them would initiate the talking after each of them simmer down from their anger no matter how much time it takes. Likely Army bc Alohas kinda giving holding nonsensical grudges until he realizes that stuffs worthless

18. How do they care for each other when one of them is wounded/sick?

OH MY GOD YALL

So for Aloha: Army is an actual babysitter. He checks alohas temperature practically every five seconds and cooks some warm soup for him, making sure hes resting cuz the guy could do anything at any given moment. Army turns away for one second and suddenly there's confetti and glitter all over the room

Army: ok first of all Aloha can't make soup. Probably mixes up salt and sugar on the regular. However I'd say he's fairly good at making sure army gets the rest he needs, making sure he doesn't overwork himself and stuff, and just keeping him company

20. How do they comfort each other when one of them is upset? Is this method effective?

I think in either of their personalities, they help each other see the rational side of things-- it's really easy for either of them to overexaggerate worries or events, so most of the time some reassuring words and perspective from the other would subdue it to a fine degree

This is mostly based on a headcanon of mine that army's a gigantic worrywart but that's ok

Army just seems like the honesty valuing type--he doesnt mind if Aloha reads his manuals and he doesn't care about leaving his cell phone out on the table, knowing aloha wouldn't do anything threatening with it

Idia Facts Part 40: Idia, Kalim and Tradition

While Kalim seems like the antithesis to Idia himself (Idia ranks him as first among NRC’s most cheerful characters), he does not seem to hold Kalim’s extroverted nature against him, saying that he knew Kalim has the best intentions when trying to throw him an additional banquet after his birthday party.

When Kalim comments, "There's nothing geeky about sharing things you enjoy" Idia responds, "the worst part is that I know you sincerely believe that."

Idia has no patience for tradition—similar to Jamil—saying that “Traditions are pointless. We gotta keep things updated so technology doesn’t leave us in the dust.”

Idia argues in favor of setting a new precedent for the traditional Starsending event (so that he will not have to participate), but Crowley insists, “What the Starsending requires is a respect for tradition.”

Idia is not impressed by the hand-crafted guide in Harveston, saying that “It’d be more helpful AND user-friendly if the map was a touchscreen," and refers to a Harveston traditional food as “jank,” but he enjoys the traditional clothes they wear because they are similar to what is worn by characters in one of his favorite anime.

Idia gives a significant upgrade to a wood-splitter used by Epel’s grandmother, saying that it is going to revolutionize the logging industry.

Worried that she will not be able to actually use it, Marja has him downgrade it back to how it was before.

Idia has unfavorable opinions about the traditional city watch in Fleur City, saying security cameras, sensors and digital solutions could manage their money and peacekeeping efforts, but, “I guess you’re not supposed to change up traditions. That’s like the whole point.”

I have been legitimately so completely and utterly floored by the entirety of Gnosis's oprec that I've simply been unable to even comment on it. I've glanced over it and reread parts of it two or three times for commentary on other things, and each instance I've looked at it, it's hit me with the force of a Crag Splitter and indeed, left me stunned.

I don't even know what to say about it, it's so obvious, so blatant, so unabashed in its earnestness and sincerity.

Enciodes literally was so taken and charmed by Gnosis (Gnosis! Who is a standoffish and stuck-up little bird even at presumed twelve years old!) that he promises to change the entire country for Gnosis so Gnosis will stay there. This is no exaggeration whatsoever, this is literally right there, verbatim, in the text.

Enciodes: I'll make Kjerag big enough for you. And you'll stay.

That's it. That's the future Enciodes promised him: a Kjerag that he would like, a country he didn't feel like running away from, a home that he would love--all so that Gnosis would stay with him.

This is love. Call it platonic if you wish, but this is a gesture so grand that it can't be called anything less. And Enciodes has kept his word! All those years later, modernizing Kjerag, making Gnosis CTO of Karlan Trade, making him Speaker of the Parliament--all of it is in part because of this promise. Of course, Enciodes would be changing Kjerag even without Gnosis because he's unhappy with Kjerag in its current state, but Gnosis is explicitly part of his motivation. He wants Kjerag to be big enough for Gnosis.

And even more impressively, Gnosis responds to this enormous gesture in kind!

Gnosis: If we're doing this, we'll make Kjerag big enough for the both of us.

Gnosis refuses to just let Enciodes make Kjerag big enough only for him--he wants Kjerag to be big enough for Enciodes too. If Enciodes is going to give it his all to make a Kjerag where Gnosis will be happy, then Gnosis is going to damned well make sure that Enciodes will be happy, too. The Kjerag that they're going to build together must have a place for both of them, both of their huge dreams.

They looked at each other and decided, "Yes, this is the person whom I am going to put my dreams together with. Yes, I am going to pursue a better future not just for my home, not just for myself, but a better future for this person, too. I am going to dedicate myself to a better future together with this person, and we will share that future."

These two are Kjerag's power couple and you cannot convince me otherwise.

Plague Doctors

The treaty summit between the Haligan Republic and the Human Confederacy was at a stand still. The Calthians were desperate in restoring order in the galaxy, and the border skirmish between the two minor galactic powers had devolved in to a species wide war of attrition. Both sides throwing accusations against the other for acts of complete barbarism and sadism.

The Haligans, another mammalian race, purportedly evolved from a common ancestor to their home world’s version of primates. They were very human-like, and the two species could only be truly distinguished by the Haligan’s having a fine fur coating over their skin, and slightly elongated ear lobes. Their height pushing 2.5 meters on average.

The human’s had taken to calling them “Elves”, as a derisive term.

The Calthians while also a mammalian species had evolved from the top feline predators of their home world. All three, if you discounted the obvious variations, looked very similar in body structure. Two arms, ending in dexterous fingers. Two legs for bipedal motion. A pair of forward facing eyes, and a need to breath in similar atmospheric conditions.

Currently, the cease fire and peace process was being derailed by the accusations from both sides for acts of barbarism, and war crimes. The Humans accusing the Haligans of wholesale slaughter of civilian populations. The Haligans condemning the Humans for their use of prohibited chemical weapons.

Neither species, much to the Calthian’s frustration, were non-signatories to the “Restricted Arms of War” treatise of the founding members of the Galactic Senate. Though considering that specific piece of legislation was created, voted on, and ratified almost a century before either species achieved FTL. Yet the issues still remained. The Haligans were by far more physically superior species. The average Haligan outclassing the average Human but a substantial margin in speed, agility and strength. Traits they were using to devastating effect during ground operations.

The Humans, were the more ingenious of the two. Creating and enacting rather risky, reckless, and often times desperate plans to halt the Haligan encroachment.

The Calthians knew neither side was innocent. Both were partaking in rather barbaric practices in attempts to force the other side of the war to submit and back off. The Haligans using brutal extermination tactics upon the settlements and outposts they captured. Slaughtering the all humans that fell under their control. It was an attempt at genocide. A blatant attempt.

The Humans had replied in a different, but in a more malicious, insidious and barbaric way. While the main forces and government of the Human Confederacy denounced the actions of several splitter groups, they did little to curb the terroristic actions of such groups. The use of suicide bombers and IEDs of these small groups, sowing a sense of terror in the general populace of the Haligan Republic.

However, the true malicious terror was the group the Humans themselves labeled as the “Plague Doctors” that was the true threat. Commanded by a former Human General by the name of Arthur D’Rivere, they were causing a steady climb in the casualty numbers of the Haligan forces. Their weapons of choices, caustic agents and other insidious chemical weapons.

“Until the Human’s” the Haligan representative snarled and spit, “Put an end to these splitter factions, the Republic will NEVER agree to any cease fire or entertain the terms of a lasting peace!”

“If my esteemed colleague,” the Human delegate responded with a voice dripping with animosity, “Would cease their attempt to drive my species into extinction, along with recall all of their forces that reside with in Confederate territories, we would have the TIME to curtail these rogue factions!”

“SO it is OUR fault that humans are showing themselves as not only pathetic but also a vindictive lesser species?”

“Yes.” the Human delegate replied bluntly.

“Please!” Kaliea, the Calthian mediator, pleaded. “Please!”

A beep on Kaliea’s personal communicator, drew her attention from the stalled proceedings. Her eyes grew wide with absolute horror, and she fought to keep from vomiting the contents of her meager meal all over the table. She didn’t hesitate to transfer the video files to the main projector, for both delegates and their entourages to see.

The screen opened up with security footage showing the sleek, corridors and rooms of an obvious space station. The place was completely silent, and calm. It would have been an almost serene view if it was not for the corpses that littered the floors. They had died in terrible agony. Blood, spittle, half digested meals, bile, and other more grotesque fluids and matter coated the floor and their bodies. 

“As the Hailgan Republic continues,” came a voice that had become easily recognizable by all sides. It was D’Rivere. “To affect wholesale slaughter of military and civilian populations on non-strategic settlements, we have decided to do likewise.”

The images faded to be replaced by the image of a worn and tired looking human male. His buzz cut black hair, peppered with streaks of gray. His beard likewise colored. He pulled on a cigarette before continuing to speak.

“I am under no illusions that both sides of this conflict see me and my faction as vile, unredeemable and monsters of the highest order.” D’Rivere commented, his voice sounding as tired as he looked. “I am the Devil, but make no mistake, while I may regret my actions and accept the final judgement and my probable death for treason and terrorism, I WILL not cease my actions.”

The Haligan representative was about to scream an obscenity laden tirade at the person shown before her, but she held back. Understanding that this was nothing more than a pre-recorded statement.

“We take no pleasure in inflicting so death upon the enemies of the Confederacy, but we also recognize we are a…” D’Rivere took another drag on his rapidly burning down cigarette. “... necessary evil.”

The Human delegate was rapidly typing out a message on his personal communicator, sending a desperate message to his superiors. He was requesting direction on how to proceed in light of this newest atrocity committed by the Plague Doctors.

“To show our unwavering resolve to force a peace, we are currently on route to our next target. A civilian one.” D’Rivere took a final drag on his cigarette before crushing it out, off-screen. “By the time you receive this, our attack will have happened.”

“This is an outrage!” the Haligan representative screamed, pointing a long finger in the direction of the Human across the negotiation table from her. “Your people allow these atrocities to continue unabated. End them! Now!”

“If the Republic ceases their efforts of to enact a Human genocide, and withdraw all their forces from current and former Confederate territory, I will turn myself and my crews into a neutral party to suffer the appropriate judgement and penalty for my actions.” D’Rivere took a moment to ignite another cigarette, before continuing. “Failure to do so will be evidence to myself and my crews to continue our current actions… and escalate.”

D’Rivere exhaled a plume of smoke from his nose, and took another long drag.

“If Humanity is to be driven to the brink or beyond… I will personally make sure we are remembered for causing the mutual destruction of our enemies. Sue for peace, or die alongside us.”

The video ended. The final image, that of the stern, resolute and glaring face of Arthur D’Rivere. Even as worn and tired as he looked, he still exuded an air of resolute, and grim purpose. It was the image of a man who was at peace in the knowledge of his closing, inglorious end.

Naming your lance

Do you ever wonder if Galacta Knight's lance has a name?

"What's on your mind, dude?" Galaxia asked, looking over at Galacta Knight, who was staring at his brand new weapon, specifically made for him.

"This lance is really important, right? So like, what if I gave it a name?" Galacta Knight said, raising the pink weapon into the air.

"...Your gonna name your lance?"

"Yep!"

"Void's grace..."

Later, Galacta Knight had come up with a name. After training.

"I've got it!" Galacta Knight shouted suddenly, causing the others to turn to the firstly knighted puffball.

"Celiekko!"

"....Space splitter?" Adeliza asked.

"Space cutter." Galacta corrected.

The noble hummed. "And what's the name for?"

Galacta Knight responded by raising his lance.

Galaxia narrowed her eyes at the other, the eyespots on her wings almost seeming to follow the action.

"...What?" Galacta squeaked.

His realization came with him sputtering before he found his words. "It's not my fault yiekko can also mean cut! Blame whoever made the word!"

Galaxia only giggled, much to the warrior's embarrassment.

"I'M THE FUTURE GREATEST WARRIOR IN THE GALAXY, SHUT UP!!!!"

Adeliza also giggled. Galacta Knight was old enough to be a knight and yet he still acted like a kit sometimes. She enjoyed her 'son's' antics a lot.

They argued, but the name stuck.

"Ah... I see." Were Meta Knight's only words for the story. A small smile crept up on his masked face.

right now it's just drarry; i have also written for hockey RPF and before that, The Social Network, but a lot of that fic is locked on livejournal. before TSN i wrote drarry 😬 which is also locked lol i'm sorry

1. up the arbor to your door (and more) - Hockey RPF (2,889) 2. all the western stars - Drarry (2,819) 3. Bloom - Hockey RPF (2,759) 4. Brand New Colony - Hockey RPF (2,558) 5. Morning to Wake You - Hockey RPF (2,056) my sid/geno hockey RPF era from 2012-2014 was pretty consistent! i do think all the western stars is about to overtake the top spot though, which is insane when you realize those fics are 9 years vs. barely 18 months old 😧

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

yes!! i make every effort to, though sometimes i get overwhelmed (i've fallen off a bit with The Star Splitter and it makes me super guilty!!! i need more hours in the day lol)

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

i am a happy ending aficionado!! i guess if you ignore the fix-it epilogue, the answer is we hid in catacombs, which is probably the best sid/geno fic i wrote. it was a breakup fic, of course, i remain obsessed with those!

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

i really cannot think of any standout happy ending hockey fics so for this one i will say along each garden wall. sugary sweet ending after what was a genuinely sad narrative; i think i took to heart the people who were like "Close Behind was so angsty we needed more happiness to wash it down!!" and while i felt like that didn't really fit Close Behind, it worked for this one.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

ha. yes! people were Not Happy about Close Behind. someone told me that i should tag it as the main pairing being Draco/Astoria and add an Ambiguous/Open Ending tag, which was very interesting and wrong. some comments i get are just odd, though. like someone got mad at me in The Star Splitter comments for naming a stuffed dragon Orion, who i guess was Sirius' abusive (?) dad?? i had no canon memory of that (and why would Draco care about that???). another person just objected to the entire premise of the fic, which i suppose is fair play if the premise of the fic is an actual philosophical argument, but yeah. it takes all sorts!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

i do! i like writing smut! happily, yes smut! i don't go too deep into it in every fic, though, and with drarry i've often let myself get more into plot than figuring out the best smut places. i'm in a spot mentally where i really want the smut to contribute to the plot in a significant way, which i think is a result of taking a two year fanfic break and reading nothing but literary/historical fiction in those years? idk i need to write more, it's a total shift from when i wrote hockey.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

yeah, no, not for me!

i've had some plagiarism incidents, and i guess i ask for this as a serial fic deleter, but some of my fics are on wattpad and i'd prefer they weren't lol.

yes! a good few.

lol i cannot answer this question truthfully. my all-time favorite ship is just whatever i'm hyperfixated on at the moment! drarry is probably a contender just because i circled back to it after years away. (am i in a getting back together fic with drarry??)

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

i finish all my wips 🙂 honestly this is not a flex, i am terrible at abandoning projects and my brain will not let me off the hook ever.

16. What are your writing strengths?

hmm. i think characters, especially large casts of characters! i love to write big ensembles and flesh out characters even in big or small roles, plus their relationships with each other. i also think that i'm much better at giving my worlds/stories a sort of aesthetic now, if that's a writing talent? this is def a new thing to drarry for me, since i took that long fanfic break and wrote/read a bunch of original stuff.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

i work at it, but i still don't know that i'm the best at describing things. i'm better at describing settings than people, that's for sure. i get bored with endless descriptions of someone's eye color and i find myself needing to justify character description with narrative relevance, which is silly.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i'm a big proponent of '"[English words]," he says in French.' Or like, 'He says something in French', if the POV character wouldn't understand it. i feel like it's less immersion-breaking and more fluid. i write in several languages but wouldn't expect readers to, and i normally write such a close third person perspective that i don't necessarily want the readers to have a translation of a phrase that the POV character wouldn't have, you know?

A/n - I had this idea for a long while. I know no one is gunna make something as cringy as this but me, so, here I am!

It was another long night. Your sister wasn't even your sister, your father is actually evil, and you were lied to all your life.

You stood against a wall of a roof, letting the wind blow by. Thoughts of what you should do next ran through your head.

"I knew you would be out here." A familiar voice spoke out from the shadows, you scoff softly, tiling your head to the stars. "And I knew you would find me." You respond. Your words sounded troubled, bothered even.

The blue masked turtle didn't want to ask why you sounded so hurt because you could get more upset about it. Leonardo stood next to you, the ends of his mask swayed in the breeze.

Your jaw was clenched, your eyes slightly watery. Leonardo gently places a caring hand on your tense shoulder. You soon begin to break down, slowly letting everything you bottled up and spilling it out.

You had your head on leonardo's shoulder and sobbed softly into it.

"Why would he lie to me...? What did I ever do to him.." you asked through sniffles, leo wiped you tears with his thumbs, you needed some comfort.

"The shredder is a ruthless man, I'm so sorry you had to put up with him for so many years." Leo says, you nod in agreement. You sat down on the ground with little to no idea on what to do. Cry some more? Confront shredder? Turn to the good guys? You were troubled. So, so dearly troubled.

You hands laid flat on the ground to hold yourself up, "you are so amazing y/n! I would probably like to spare with you.. maybe you could teach me something." You chuckle at his sweet comment, "thanks, but you don't have to lie to me. I know I'm repulsive."

Your words must have hit leo some where tender, because he was shocked and upset you said that.

"What!? How could you say that! I understand your shredders' biological child but- you can't just throw yourself under the bus like that!" "Why not? Everyone else already has."

Leo hugged your hand with his tightly, acting as if the moment he released, you would disappear. "Your brother's don't trust me, splitter hates me, heck- I don't think I should even be around you!"

"And you said it yourself! I'm shredders' son! Like, the worst person to be related to! I'll never be a good person."

Before you could go any further of putting yourself down, leonardo wrapped his arms around your stressed figure, it took you a while to process.

"I think.. I think I like you.. more then a friend, more then a best friend! I want you to feel okay and safe.." those words were the last thing you would think to come out his mouth, your cheeks got hotter every second leo had his arms on you.

"I think I like you better then space heroes.. heh," leo laughed, you chuckled at that. Maybe, this wasn't so bad..

Leo adjusted you and himself so you were facing one another, looking into his baby blue eyes, they practically captivated you.

You snuck a kiss on Leo's cheek, then resting your head on his plastron, all within the time that it took him the time to process.

"Kari is not gunna be pleased with with news.." you joke, "thank you for be here, leonardo."

Connecting an Arturia Beatstep Pro to a Roland T-8

This is something that ought to be simple but it took a while to figure out. The main hurdle is that the Arturia Beatstep TRS MIDI output uses Type-B layout, and the Roland T-8 uses Type-A. See here for more info on TRS MIDI.

There aren't any dedicated crossover cables to connect Type-B to Type-A, but one solution that I found online was to get a TRS -> RCA splitter, and combine that with a RCA -> TRS adapter with the sides reversed.

Here's a summary of the mapping:

Arturia Beatstep Pro -> Midi Out -> (TRS>RCA Cable)

TRS>RCA Cable>White -> RCA>TRS>Red

TRS>RCA Cable>Red -> RCA>TRS>White

(RCA>TRS) -> Midi In -> Roland T-8

If any downstream devices from the Roland T-8 are Type-A, then any vanilla TRS cable should be fine.

After setting up the wiring, then the arturia should be setup for the drum notes that trigger the Roland T-8. These can be found at this page.

Rays Best Twins 7-6.

Rays 7 Twins 6 W-Fairbanks (2-4) L-Jax (3-3)

The Tampa Bay Rays picked up an extra inning win to even their series against the Twins at a game apiece. The rubber game was today from Target Field. The Rays got the scoring started in the second inning as Josh Lowe led-off with a double to center. Randy Arozarena doubled him home and Tampa Bay took the first lead. The Twins answered in the bottom of the second as Carlos Santana lined a one-out single to right. Kyle Farmer doubled him home to tie the game at one. The Rays got back to work in the third when Alex Jackson led-off with a double to left. Yandy Diaz hit a sac fly to center and Brandon Lowe plated him with a sacrifice fly to right. Royce Lewis responded with a blast off a Zack Littell splitter to even the game at two. Simeon Woods Richardson and Zack Littell were strong in the middle inning and it was up the bullpens today. The Rays jumped ahead when Isaac Paredes singled to right. Amed Rosario followed with a pinch-hit run-scoring double to left and the Rays were up 3-2. The Rays rallied again in the ninth when Jose Siri smoked a Jay Jackson slider out to left for a solo homer. Alex Jackson drew a walk and Yandy Diaz smacked a Jackson change-up out to left. This put Tampa Bay up 6-2, but Minnesota would have a late rally left in them. Carlos Santana started it when he belted a Chris Devenski fastball out to right for a solo homer. Byron Buxton doubled and Kyle Farmer walked. With two outs, Jose Miranda lined a Pete Fairbanks slider that carried over the left field wall. The three-run homer tied the game at six and we headed into extra innings. Jonny DeLuca plated the ghost runner with a single to center. Carlos Correa flew out to center and Royce Lewis was thrown out at third base to start the bottom of the tenth. Pete Fairbanks eventually got Carlos Santana to fly out to end the game. The Rays picked up the series win from the Twins this week.

-Final Thoughts- Simeon Woods Richardson pitched a solid game today. He went six innings and allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Coel Sands struck out the side in the seventh, Steven Okert gave up a run in 1/3 of an inning, and Jay Jackson gave up three runs over an inning of work. Caleb Thielbar got out of the ninth. Griffin Jax allowed the ghost runner in the tenth. Carlos Santana led the way with three hits. Jose Miranda tallied two hits. The Twins hit 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. The team now heads out on a nine-game road trip that starts in Oakland tomorrow. Chris Paddack will face Joey Estes in the series opener.

I took my half mg of xanax and 25mg of Hydroxyzine a hour ago I'm going to play solitaire and try to sleep soon.

So I did the UFO ending and I did the Silent Hill 2 Maria Sub Scenario cause I never game anymore.. the hallucination is on my last nerve... which is why I don't game anymore but at least I played over 6 hours today to make up for prob a week of not touching a game system.

Tomorrow I'll have another red bull day and play some Silent Hill game with my HDCP bypasser. I figured out the trick. I got to pull the power from hdmi splitter not the bypasser right as it connects. It takes a few tries but I can replicate it in a minute or 2 maximum. So this could feasibly work long term. I tested it many times today.

Tomorrow besides for gaming, I got to shower, clean my ac filter, and re mouse repellant my room and drawers. It's been working. Now that my freon poisoning fear is gone I'm worried I'll have a freon leak in my car and I'll get poisoned lol I guess I'll worry about that Tuesday when I go to to Firestone for my oil change... if it blow hot air or clicks are things I got to look for... I can't open the window in my car bc the motor is broken I got to pull up the windows with my hands. I can only crack it a little..

My Ray-Bans have been comfortable, my eyes haven't been straining so maybe they work better than the Arons or maybe it's that I've been looking at the guide reading on my phone as I gamed. So I didn't have prolonged staring at my tv. I mean I did but there was a lot of looking back and forth also between my computer as well.

Although they started squeezing the back of my head behind my ears after about 10 hours of wear but that's normal for them... the arons are more comfortable but I got to give these Ray-Bans a chance when I watch TV all day with no switching to heavy phone and computer time. My eyes could be straining cause of dry eyes from looking at my tv all day. Idk.

My mouth is little dry I don't like it but I mean I sleep with my mouth open most nights and it could be allergies or not drinking enough water or a medication side effect. I drink at least 1 bottle a day but I should prob do better than that. It's not a chronic problem so I wont freak out about it atm. It could also be psychosis or my tooth paste i assume. I'm thinking water. And sleeping with my mouth open more than anything. It's not that dry but psychosis always focuses on my gums and teeth bc I freak out about it bc I can't slow down on smoking.. and tactiles are a real thing for me.

I feel like a ghost. I'm upset she won't talk to me. I'm starting to think maybe just maybe she is waiting for me to find someone else. Or maybe she thinks I'm crazy... I mean I'm not going to find anyone anytime soon. And I mean if it's the crazy thing that's a crap shot cause I'm not getting better despite trying...

I'm still worried about the Kristen Report wondering if they are going to take my case waiting for the status report. So yeah.

Idia Facts Part 36: Idia and Sebek

Sebek and Idia generally start to argue when they overlap, as seen in Wish Upon a Star, Glorious Masquerade and Harveston.

For the Harveston sled race Idia encourages Sebek to have a squirrel plushie to pull his sled, failing to mention that, “their durability’s so low, they come apart at the seams if you make them go full throttle for too long,” which is what ultimately happens.

When Sebek is impressed by Epel’s grandmother’s pipe organ playing Jade comments that he is displaying a warm regard for humanity, but Idia comments, “(Sebek) couldn’t care less about humans and you know it.”

When Sebek comments on Idia’s internet-dependence Idia responds, “We all need the internet. You’re not exception."

Sebek explains that not many people had internet in Briar Valley when he was a child. Idia says, “Note to self: never visit Briar Valley for any reason, ever.”

During Harveston Jade says that he has heard that avalanches can be triggered by yelling on snowy mountains, but Idia says that is “a load of unscientific nonsense. Human voices are barely a whisper as far as Mother Nature’s concerned.”

Sebek successfully instigates an avalanche by yelling later on, giving Jade his opportunity to counter with, “Sounds like people yelling and causing avalanches isn’t unscientific nonsense now, is it?”

When the team loses Sebek during the race Idia encourages them to continue on without him.

Idia tries to get Sebek to exercise more quietly during Harveston, with Sebek comparing Idia poorly to Malleus and calling him slovenly.

When Epel’s grandmother begins using a wood splitter to cut firewood Sebek and Idia get into an argument about relying upon machines to do work, with Sebek saying, “What if the machinery breaks down?” and Idia countering, “then you fix it. There’s no machine I can’t fix."

Marja’s wood splitter proceeds to then break, and Sebek challenges Idia to fix it. Idia says he would rather go back to bed, but when Sebek mocks him for boasting about his skills Idia takes the bait.

Idia repairs and upgrades the wood splitter, to the point that Marja is no longer capable of operating it. She asks him to return it to its original, low-tech operability and Idia reflects, “Now I’m stuck doing twice the work, I should’ve let Sebek do all the manual labor.”

Despite their constant bickering, Sebek hears how Idia handled Rollo from Malleus and compliments him, saying, “You may be a twisted, irksome human, but I suppose even a broken clock is right twice a day.”

Idia responds, “I don’t need this, Just leave me alone.”

This car was created as part of the Car Masters: Rust To Riches TV show on Netflix.  The current owner acquired it from Gotham Garage.  The car is the real life replica of a Hot Wheels car.  The Hot Wheels version was designed by Ire Gilford, and the real life replica was created by Mark Towle from Gotham Garage.  Although not all parts on the car are working parts, the idea was to create a look alike to the Hot Wheels version and they nailed that right on the head.  The underpinnings of the car are from an 1986 Chevrolet Corvette, including the engine and transmission.  

The current owner of Splittin’ Image, Mike, runs a non-profit called Cars Against Crime. While the Outlands rage at all sides, as the Vast’s people slowly gather themselves to respond to the Ice Palace and the open door of death in the Usurper’s Throne, what are the Palace boats doing? What of the culture of Vampires that scourged a whole mountain range and ruined forests of centuries of growth, how have they prepared for the obvious oncoming war?

They haven’t.

They’ve been busy.

They’ve been busy fighting with one another endlessly about who, exactly, is the most royal member of all these Royal bloodlines.

Warning: Wizards employees, this post contains unsolicited designs of custom magic cards.

This month was a chance to dig down into the multiplayer mechanic The Monarch. Every card this month has some reference to the word ‘monarch’ on them, or at least did in development (no promise that I haven’t done something since that messed it up a little).

I have a firm opinion that the Monarch should not be being introduced to the game too early, and that introducing it should, for every colour but blue, sit at around four mana. I didn’t put any monarch cards in blue for this set – I mean unless you count the Heir Splitter adventure.

The monarch is a thing for the vampire families to fight over, and this time around I think the flavour text and names help convey that in this case, they’re arguing over royal blood in a very literal way: If you have the most royal blood in you, you’re the monarch, after all.

We have a bunch of characters who have been mentioned before finally showing up on their own cards here!

Ustrulf and Lagan are examples of the Palace boats treating vampirism and Royal Blood as a sort of art form. They’ve made vampires of a dragon (very impressive) and vampires of a mandrill (dear god why). Neither of these characters can talk, and that’s why they don’t show up in flavour text – they’re both people, agents, that have been dehumanised and maligned by the system that supposedly respects them.

Anyway, don’t know how well it’s going to matter, but it seems likely to me that Lagan is going to go eat some faces when things go wrong on the boats. And yes! Lagan’s name was based on an anagram of Ravagan’s.

Kima, Dheru and Xaia form sort of the core of the political archetypes in the Palace boats. Kima is a true believer in the Royal blood; she is, in her heart of hearts, convinced that the boot is necessary, and she is intent on being the best of boots. It’s pretty unfair, all things considered, that she’s the one who has to take the task of an assassin to herself (which is why she has the Royal Assassin ability), but who can also convince people to obey the crown (hence her Preacher ability).

Xaia is the overseer of (some of) the Masqued, and considers it her duty to keep eliminating unworthy monarchs. In her opinion, if the monarch is constantly changing, nobody’s going to clamp down on the movements of people like her. Xaia’s an interesting challenge to me because I don’t see what the card is for, I can’t quite work out what obviously it connects to. Basically, I can’t see what the deck built around her wants to do, but I can see things you might want to try. It’s very easy to build a card to fill an obvious slot, or to force cards to interact with them. It’s a lot harder to ask the question of ‘is this good?’ and have the answer come back ‘maybe?’

And then there’s Dheru. Dheru has been excluded from Royal Blood for good: He cannot become the Monarch, he is forbidden from it…

And therefore, his opinion is that he will test every monarch.

This test usually takes the form of digging up old alliances and finding new reasons to attack everyone who takes the throne. I like Dheru a lot, because Dheru’s adventure is interesting. This kind of bidding mechanic normally takes a lot of words and lines of text, in order to make the card work in a consistent, simple way – but in the case of Dheru’s adventure, to make it less wordy, it instead lets you make strategic choices about who starts the bidding (and therefore, who gets to end the bidding).

We also get a mention of Thanabel (sungoth commander imperium, thanks for the name Jade) and Druan. Notice how we’ve seen Druan already, but her title is different? Thanabel will show up later.

The Monarch is a contentious mechanic for legacy and other competitive formats, which I think should inform thoughtful commander designs. You don’t want to make cards that are priced in a way that they may have an impact on legacy, even if you know that’ll never be a factor. That meant I priced most things higher, and yes, once again I used undaunted to keep some things off the table.

One of my favourite cards in this month, for what it’s doing, is jiggling coagulation. First, there’s the lore points it makes. It’s the source of royal jelly, a blood-synthesising delicacy beloved by the Vampire Royals. But when you actually look into the source of that powerful, pungent treat, you find that it’s synthesised out of the movements of… a

thing.

It’s big and it’s gross and it’s dripping, it’s definitely found under the docks, but also, crucially, it’s a vampire. This is something made out of something Royal, otherwise, how else would it be able to make the Royal Jelly?

The Jiggling coagulation itself was modelled on my old favourite card twisted abombination, which is, in my opinion, a value card allstar. It can win the game if the game goes long and slow, and it has a purpose early on. If you can reanimate or get it back out of your yard, same deal. That was the basic thinking on this card.

While I’ve got the opportunity to mention, check out this saga. A thing I did with the sagas this time around is that all the sagas are unified in having names that start with prepositions. These sagas are meant to be read as the titles of stories, in the more penny-dreadful, cheap paperback style stories.

The monarch is a mechanic I like a lot, and part of what I like about it is the way it encourages aggression. I tried to make sure that the cards that introduce it either protect the monarch (and therefore build up time) or encourage people to attack players like Dheru does.
