#Spiderman across the spiderverse spoilers

I haven't seen Across the Spiderverse, but spoilers and this post makes me think-

Spider-Miles saw his Uncle and his OG Spiderman die - Which with spidermen always seeing someone close/important to them die.

Prowler-Miles Saw the same thing, right? At least saw his uncle die, right?

The reason S-Miles is an Anomaly is because he was bit by a Spider that wasn't from his home, it was from P-Miles home.

In that way, I think that could could've been some kind of Universe Balance/Stabilization.

Miles was always destined to be Spiderman/The Prowler.

It's just that the wrong Miles became the Wrong person, but because a Miles is Spiderman and a Miles is the Prowler, both universes haven't been completely destroyed.

Miles stepping into some very hard-to-fill shoes is the Canon Event, I think.

Also, to reiterate; Spidey Miles is Fine. The Spider that bit him was the Anomaly, one brought on by Kingpin, Octavia, whoever The Spot was before, ETC. At some point I believe that the Universe "Settles" like a house - maybe it wasn't exactly how it was supposed to go, but so long as the roof isn't caving in or the walls aren't falling down at random, I think it'd be safest to let it stay as is.

I’m here to be different from the trolls and actually ask you something interesting. Do you agree or disagree with Miguel and the canon events?

Oh boy. Alright.

I sympathize with Miguel, and I find him a very complex and interesting character who, even though he knows his methods are far from exactly right, genuinely thinks he's doing the right thing and everything for the greater good. But no, I don't exactly agree with him when it comes to the whole canon events thing.

I do think canon events are real to some degree, in the sense that they are things that the Spideys in different universes tend to experience. However, I do not think that they all have to happen and if they don't and things go differently then everything is broken and that dimension collapses. Mainly because the logic behind that is flawed.

Miguel explains that when he took over his dead counterpart's place, he broke canon. But what canon events did he even disrupt? He doesn't explain it. Unless his daughter was Spider-Woman there and his death was supposed to be her Uncle Ben moment, it doesn't seem like he actually broke any canon events at all. But his daughter was a little girl and she likely hadn't even been bitten yet, so it seems unlikely because it like the whole canon things happen after you're bitten. It doesn't make a lot of sense.

You can argue that Pavitr's dimension started unravelling after Miles breaking his canon event, but it doesn't make full sense, either. It seems like it took a while for his daughter's dimension to get destroyed after Miguel allegedly broke the canon, and Pavitr's starts immediately after? Right after the stunt the Spot, a multiversal threat with dimensional powers, pulled? Miles was right, it makes more sense to think that that was the Spot's fault than his.

Also, if according to Miguel, Miles should have never been Spider-Man and his whole existence goes against canon, how come his dimension hasn't been destroyed? How come Prowler Miles' dimension is still there if he wasn't bitten like he was 'supposed' to be? Absolutely no canon events have happened in Earth 42, and-- it's fine, no black holes? And why does Miles even have to experience canon events if according to Miguel he's an anomaly? Plus if we're being technical Peter Parker's Spider-Man already experienced those canon events, all that already happened to one of the Spider-Men in 1610, so why do they have to happen twice, now to the kid who again wasn't even supposed to be Spider-Man according to Miguel?

Even in Gwen's case. That's the most subtle yet clearest example of the fact that nothing really happens if canon is 'broken'. He quits and stops being captain. Which means that a canon event isn't going to happen now, because the police captain that was supposed to die was her father. And now he's not captain anymore. Did something happen? Did a horrible black hole open up and started swallowing everything the moment he said those words? No. Nothing happens. And Gwen realizes that, too. And that's when she fully confirms that the whole 'everyone has to experience these canon events by force or everything will go to shit' is actually a bunch of bullshit. Because canon was just technically changed, and everything was still fine.

Again, I think Miguel truly believes he's doing the right thing. But his logic is flawed and he's too blinded by his own grief and guilt to see that.

After watching the movie, I started to think about how Miguel didn't even looked at Mayday when she fell on him. One can assume it's because he's not in a good mood, but I started to think about what he lost.

I'm not very good at explaining it, so I hope the artwork talks for itself

It's been 2 weeks+ since the movie release, so at this point there's a lot more approach of that situation in a comedic way. It took me a lot of time to finally start this, and it feels like a bad timing since what's going on rn are memes about it more than anything, but well, I wanted to do it anyway

I started to fight this piece too much, so I'll just leave it at this point and call it finished, good or bad

Considering Miles is an “anomaly” and technically wasn’t supposed to become spiderman, I think that means he has a more likely chance of altering his canon (save his dad) without any disastrous ramifications

I watched Spiderman Across the Spiderverse tonight. No spoilers. Just two words.

Spider punk.

I thought I was ready. I was not.

I’m about to write an essay on the specific situation Miles is in as we set up for a third movie.

With great power comes great responsibility.

Not a single spiderman asked to be bit. No one planned to be spiderman. But, given the power to do so, they chose to become spiderman. Miles is bitten by a spider from a different dimension that was never meant for him. In that moment, two dimensions were doomed. One to lose it’s intended spiderman, and one to never have one at all.

But Miles’s New York isnt in a state of anarchy like Universe-42, where his spider came from. It’s relatively normal. It’s what we expect of Spider-Man’s New York. It’s not doomed.

Spiderman doesn’t choose to get powers. In any universe. But every spiderman looks at what he has and the world around him and does what he can do.

Miles is just as much a Spiderman as every other Peter out there. It could be anyone under the mask, should they chose to wear it.

He may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time but so was every other bite victim. This is not his fault. And it may take another watch or two for me to confirm, but I don’t think Miguel ever directly says something to blame miles as an actor in all this. Yes, miles is the linchpin. To keep to the canon web, miles should not have been bitten. The fault falls on happenstance, though it’s all too easy to pin on miles. But I don’t think Miguel ever says that. Miles shouldn’t exist. Miles is not spiderman, in Miguel’s eyes. But goddamnit he’s not at fault here.

I’m hoping Miles can take control of his own narrative. His entire character revolves around balancing the expectations of those around him while he tries to discover his own. His family, his school, living up to what spiderman is supposed to be. Even The Hole confronts him and demands he acknowledge they are nemeses, and upon being turned down, seeks vengeance and validation which is the catalyst for the movies major conflict. Ppl keep telling miles who to be. And in a universe where a kid got bit when he shouldn’t have, I hope he finds the strength to rewrite more shouldn’ts. Spiderman can do both. The captain doesn’t have to die. His relationship with Gwen Stacy does not end in tragedy.

EDIT: FUCKIN. IF THE CANON RULES ARE SO IMPORTANT. WHY’D JEFF DIE IN A UNIVERSE WITH NO SPIDERMAN? UNCLE AARON DIDNT HAVE TO DIE IN THAT ONE SO WHY DID THE CAPTAIN??? ANSWER ME THAT M I G U E L?????

One thing I adored when watching spiderverse and havent seen that many people mention is the amount of different-dimension world building they managed to fit into such short parts of the movie.. like obviously each world has an extremely unique look and feel and are clearly very different from each other. But the amount of thought and smaller details put into these settings are CRAZY to me. Nueva York initially seems like a generic utopian-esq futuristc city but once you dive deeper (literally) you get things like the darker, more crowded underbelly city under it (which reminded me of arcane!!) Like they could have just stayed surface level but they expanded upon the world and made it 100x more interesting just by showing its existence!!

Argg theres just so much thought and care put into this movie... I cant rave about it enough.

ok wait so Miguel is so worried about Miles stopping his dad‘s death which would cause that world’s canon and reality to unravel and fall apart. But he also said Miles was never supposed to be Spider-Man in that reality. The spider got transported to that world and bit miles, changing the canon. So isn’t the canon already messed up? Shouldn’t it already be unraveling? Why is Miguel so caught up in Miles changing his dad‘s death when that world’s canon is already different? 

or does it just not apply for that? i mean that’s a pretty big change tho.
