Hello there. Back again for the 3rd year in a row! What can I say, I love this event haha. Thanks for looking at my letter, it won’t be too detailed since I’m pretty laidback when it comes to these things. I’m really going to be happy with any gifts. Most of the list is just the prompts I listed copy and pasted at the bottom of this post. All the extra details are at the top! Everything is below the cut. Treats of any kind are welcomed! If you have a question my inbox has anon on and I will tag every responded ask with the Spectre Requisitions 2025 tag.

Likes:

I love angst! It’s my favorite thing. The catharsis that comes out in angst is so good.

Friends to lovers is so good

Characters protecting their loved ones is one of my favorite tropes.

While I want the main focus of these stories to be on the relationships, I really enjoy it when people add in the main character(s) friends and families. After all the characters aren’t without connections outside of romantic.( Vetra and Sidera’s sibling dynamic is so fun. Sara and Scott’s feel as if it could be so complicated too. Grunt is Shepard’s kid! So if you want to throw such things in there, then go ahead.)

Dislikes:

I’m not the biggest fan of enemies/rivals to lovers (when violence is involved. If they were rivals/enemies on a mission and one of them beat the other to the goal, but it never got physical then that’s fine.) Some people do enemies/rivals to lovers well. So it’s not a complete no for me.

No non-con anything please.

Ratings:

I’m good with any ratings. The reason why I didn’t click Explicit is because I’m uninterested in smut. If you want to include graphical depictions of violence that’s fine.

Character Appearances:

For F!Shepard I always just play with default F!Shepard who was Earthborn with engineering training, and was the sole survivor . If you want to use your version of Shepard for one of the prompts then go ahead. 

For the Ryders these are the faces I used for them in my canon run:

The scars they got from an incident when they were kids, where Sara tried to protect Scott’s face, but they both still got burned. As for the tattoos, when they grew up they both got a tattoo where their twin had been injured in their twin’s favorite color. Now they serve as a sign of how close they are. With Sara looking more like their father and Scott looking like their mom. If you want to go with the default appearances for them, that’s fine too. (Yeah I just use all the default names for all three characters too.) Usually I play Sara as the more logical twin, who gets excited about discovering new things, and new tech. She saw their father brush people off so she tries to be patient with others while Scott is more interested in the adventure itself and upfront about his emotions/opinions with everyone.

#1 Request - Jaal Ama Darav/Vetra Nyx/Female Ryder | Sara or Tiran Kandros/Vetra Nyx/Female Ryder | Sara

Prompts: 

I'd love anything focusing on these three and their families.

Families seem really important to angarans, and considering how Ryder and Vetra both have very small families, maybe something about Jaal trying to integrate their families together, or expecting the two to be as excited about having a large family as he is, would be excellent. I love the different dynamics all three have with their families. The tension in Ryder's. The worry in Vetra's. The openness in Jaal's. Fantastic!

These three are so work-oriented. So something with the three of them working together, or at least side by side if they're doing separate things would be cool.

I also like the idea of the three having a date night that just keeps getting interrupted by calls, emails, messages about work stuff, and probably friends and family as well.

#2 Request - Tiran Kandros/Female Ryder | Sara or Jaal Ama Darav/Vetra Nyx

Prompts:  

I like the idea of these two venting together. Maybe one of them makes a ridiculous request.

Some more general prompts: domesticity, angst, last one standing, on call, or last call.

Maybe something about how Jaal is very open with his emotions and Vetra tries not to be. Jaal is a very open person in general whereas Vetra feels closed off.

Here are some general prompts for these two: Cuddling, first argument, raising Sid, or talks of the future.

#3 Request - Kal'Reegar/Female Shepard (Mass Effect) or Female Shepard/Garrus Vakarian/Tali'Zorah nar Rayya

These two are so tragic! Anything about these two soldiers connecting, and bonding throughout the war, and maybe then losing each other tragically.

General prompts: Angst, grief, long-distance relationship, Kal'Reegar receives some news, final moments, or letters.

These three went through everything together. I'd love something that focuses on small moments that the game may have skipped over.

General prompts: Quiet, playful teasing, peaceful, enjoying the citadel, memories, comforting presence, ghosts, differences in the SR-1 & SR-2, or enjoying their time on a planet.

#4 Request - Macen Barro/Tiran Kandros/Avitus Rix or Kaetus/Tiran Kandros

Prompt: I like the idea of these three meeting before Andromeda and hitting it off.

General prompts: AU where Kandros was on the turian ark, training together, feeling inadequate, protective, or keeping each other alive.

Anything showing these two getting to know each other over time, and confiding in each other before ending up together would be great. I love how they both didn't want the jobs they end up having, because there were people they knew who were supposed to be there instead.

General prompts: Slow burn, enemies to lovers, lack of trust, discussing Sloane's influence on both of them, Tiran standing up for Kaetus, Kaetus protecting Tiran, or tending to each other's wounds.

#5 Request -  Kirrahe/Female Shepard or Jaal Ama Darav/Liam Kosta/Female Ryder | Sara

Prompt: Kirrahe trying to find Shepard on the citadel during Kai Leng's attack.

General prompts: War stories, catching up, last moments, accidental confessions, or holding.

I love the idea of these three just having lots of fun together! Maybe they sneak Ryder off the ship for an unsanctioned break, or work together to trick Ryder into thinking there's an emergency but surprise it's a date, and oh no all of our comms aren't working, guess you have to relax.

General prompts:Teasing, flirting, protecting each other, discussions of their future, a mission gone wrong, family, playing a sport together, trying out something new, talks of the future and/or having kids, or surprises!

#6 Request - Kaetus/Avitus Rix or Grunt/Kolyat Krios/Oriana Lawson

Prompt: Kaetus is a skilled individual. It would be a tragedy to waste his skills, Ryder insisted. Eventually convincing Reyes. However Kaetus can't be entirely trusted after Sloane's death so they hand him over to Avitus.

Maybe they bond over both having lost loved ones recently, or something.

General prompts: Long conversations, quiet moments, healing, learning a new skill, patience, or coping with trauma.

I like the idea of these three getting to know each other during or after mass effect 3. Maybe they first meet by coincidence, or Oriana shows up at Shepard's apartment and finds Kolyat there taking care of a hungover Grunt.

General prompts: Getting to know each other, sharing stories about the Normandy's crew, growing together, healing together after the war, family visits, where to go, fluff, caretaker, or bonding.

#7 Request - Kal'Reegar/Tali'Zorah nar Rayya/Female Shepard or Thane Krios/Female Shepard/Garrus Vakarian

Prompt: 

I'd love anything about them staying on a fleet ship together, maybe Shepard is visiting the other two or Tali and Shepard pay Kal'Reegar a visit. Something with them on Rannoch could also be nice. Or maybe Shepard shows the two around Earth.

General prompts: Drinking, cooking together, starting anew, building, fluff, domesticity, getting stronger, Shepard taking care of them, near loss, or growing together.

Something about these three getting to enjoy some privacy for one would be great. Maybe they all get to enjoy Shepard's new apartment together, or her room on the Normandy. Maybe some body worshipping smut.

my vakarian family dynamic hc just got a new and very important addition: garrus was an unplanned child.

and the thought of ANYTHING being UNPLANNED is anathema to papa vakarian. he’s already back on the citadel working (after taking two years to be with his mate and raise baby solana) when he hears the news. it throws a wrench into his carefully-laid plans.

see, papa vakarian is a hierarchy man through and through. he likes schedules, he likes standard operating procedures, he likes making up his mind and sticking to it. he does not like surprises.

garrus is a surprise.

and then he just never grows out of being one.

but it’s not just him. not just the fact that he’s weird and passionate and still wants to be a spectre past the age of 6 and squanders all his incredible potential by insisting on quitting the military before his requisite 15 years are over and then quitting c-sec on a whim and everything that follows.

it’s that the relay 314 incident happens a couple of months before his scheduled birth or at least no more than a year into his infancy. the relay 314 incident, as much as it is only an incident and not a war, which is a big fucking deal and harkens the end of life as they know it—or maybe it’s garrus’ birth that did, depending on how you look at it: a new species on the citadel and the emergence of the first real galactic threats since the krogan rebellions over a thousand years prior and then finally the reaper war. the war to end all wars.

and who’s smack-dab in the middle of all of that? his son. his unplanned, unanticipated, bringer-of-chaos-and-rejecter-of-social-mores renegade of a son.

A Guide To Treats

A treat is a work composed for the Spectre Requsition Collection outside of your assignment. A treat is extra, i.e. you are free but not obligated to create it on top of your assignment. This is possible in the following ways:

A fanwork for an un-requested pairing on the nominations list. Is there a pairing on there you just absolutely want to write something for and no one requested it? You can post it to the collection as a treat!

A fanwork that fills a request of one of the participants you weren’t assigned to. Maybe one of the requests just grabs you and you can’t help yourself. We feel you. We really do. 

If you create a fanwork for a participant of the Exchange, you are obligated to follow the Assignment Requirements, with the following exceptions: 

A treat does not have a minimum word count requirement; it doesn’t need to have over a 1000 words like your Assignment Fic does.

A treat may also be a manip on its own, unlike an Assignment Artwork. 

A treat may be gifted to multiple recipients, or to the collection as a whole.

You do not have to be signed up to post a fanwork to the collection! All you need is an AO3 account; if you don’t have one, you may message the mods and we will get you an invitation. The collection is open to treats from now up to creator reveals. It will be inaccessible to anyone but the creator and the mods until that time. 

How to post your treat:

1) Log into AO3 and go to Post->New Work. Fill in your actual document, titles, warnings, etc. like normal.

2) Under Post to Collections/Challenges, type in the following groups:

3) Under Gift this work, type in your recipient’s name. If it’s a treat, type in the person whose prompt you used for your fanwork if you used one; otherwise, you can leave this form blank to just make a general gift to the community. If you’ve done it right, it should look like this:

4) Scroll to the bottom, post your fic! Voila, you are done!

After that, the mods will take a look at your fic; if we have any follow up questions, we’ll email you at the address listed on your Ao3 account.

I know very little about modding other than there are a LOT of mods out there for Mass Effect and that @average-mako-enjoyer was telling me about a cool save editor. Then I stumbled across a mention of the Expanded Galaxy Mod (LE) and hit it, Liara!

This thing would practically make the trilogy a new game! Look at what it includes:

Improved Terminal Set XO, Marine Lieutenant and Chief Engineer. Requires certain levels of conversation before individuals are unlocked. Set other crew including Marines, medics, engineers and chef or barman. Require senior officers. Crew Manifest reflects Shepard's and crew's personal history. Set Normandy equipment including vehicles and customisable firing range options. Access Spectre Mail. Set your squad powers and combat gear. Gameplay Set mission timings for major missions like Priority:Tuchanka, Priority: Perseus Veil (Geth missions) and Priority:Thessia. Complete DLC without feeling like you are supposed to be somewhere urgently. Instead you can optionally set the conversation to human in the war room or vid call at your leisure (set in EGM Settings). The Alliance will give Shepard an extra 25,000 credits on boarding the Normandy to reflect an initial budget (and help towards expensive weapons). Deck 1 Cabin Invites - once romances are locked in you can invite your love interest to the cabin (if they are on the Normandy). This includes: Liara, Kaidan, Ashley, Garrus, Steve, Samantha and Tali. Each has a few interactive scenes. Cabin Photo - all romances have a photo. Interactive. Various collectables including Mako model, Hammerhead model, Collector's Blade, Shepard's Helmet and many more. View Medals (as per ME2) Deck 2 Bridge - shutters restored.CIC - Traynor's dialogue won't be cut-off if you open the galaxy map or use the elevator. Deck 3 Liara's Room - Ashley conversation restored. A cut conversation between Ashley and Liara is restored (Localized). Ashley will visit Liara's office post coup.- Fixed screens so they don't invert. A variety of screens will show.- Ilos painting (if the player completed LOTSB in ME2)- Normandy photo (if the player romanced Liara in ME1)- Liara bed scene (if the player has a loyal romance in ME1/2/3 or has locked in romance in ME3) Crew hanging around in the mess hall may include marines and others. Life Support used as office (sometimes) Arms back in Life Support (if Marine rating is medium to high) Fix shutters in Port/Starboard Observation rooms Medical bay will slightly change depending if player purchased the upgrade in ME2.If Garrus is dead he will be replaced by a crewman as Gunnery Officer. Pick bonus giving medics (requires Chief Medical Officer) Pick Barman or Chef (requires XO). They will feed Shepard's fish. Decor in mess hall and bar may reflect which is chosen (as will behaviour of some crew). Deck 4 Windows opened up on the Cargo deck in Javik's room and Starboard Cargo. Pick Geth/Quarian Engineers (requires Chief Engineer) New store allows purchase of Normandy upgrades. Deck 5 Shooting range - can be purchased from Deck 4 engineering terminal. Customisable in Manifest. Armory - as you find and gather more weapons you can view them in your armory. A small bonus is available for collecting the majority.Secondary vehicles including Mako, Hammerhead, Trident and others can be purchased after Vega destroys the spare shuttle in Priority:Mars. Customisable in Manifest. Javelin Missiles available. ME2 Weapons imports - Direct import from ME2 (Not New Game Plus). Authorise Cortez to bring the crate on board after the first dock at the Citadel. Weapons reflect ME2 level. All weapons will go to Level X once box has been opened. Crate will disappear after 6-7 missions. Mechdog has a greater variety of ambient chatter restored. New Alliance Requisitions store contains some late game Alliance weapons if you want them early. Entire Ship Marines will guard doors at various key points depending on selected security level. Use ducts to travel between decks. FTL VFX on all windows.

Setting an XO, more crew, more invites up for your love interest, the return of the medals (achievements), picking a barman/chef, opening the shutters in Javik's room (I legit used to look at Grunt through those shutters in ME2, I don't even know why, lol! I just used to check to see if he was there 🤷‍♀️), MAKING USE OUT OF LIFE SUPPORT (I still tend to go in there to look around despite the fact no one has been in there since Thane in ME2) and more interaction/sounds from KEI-9 (aka Mechdog) would all be things I'd be SO interested in! But really all of it sounds amazing, like it would add an extra amount of life to the Normandy and that would be so awesome! 🤗🤗🤗

I'm still trying to get a bunch more achievements so don't want to risk any changes/mods until I'm done, but I was just all starry eyed reading about these things and wanted to see if anybody out there uses this mod or any others? 😎😉

This was my first year participating in SpecReqs, a Mass Effect rarepair gift exchange. I heavily recommend browsing through this collection (as well as the previous years), whether you're looking for something specific or just a good read.

I would like to highlight the gift I received from tigereyes45. It brings me great joy and I think more people should see it. Have you ever wished you could see Wrex and Garrus take a crack at the same escape room prison cell?

So, what have we learned about written fanworks?

When you fixate on something for too long, your whole work can feel like a hit-or-miss type of situation. Take a walk! Take a walk!

I am so glad I signed up! This has been a scary but lovely experience from start to finish.

I have discovered another thing or two about what I enjoy. Fiction helps us explore other people's and our own psyche at the same time. What a privilege!

He didn’t plan on it when Shepard walked into the Crew Quarters. He wasn’t even supposed to be in there, either. Goldstein was having issues with his haptic interface, and Garrus offered to fix it for him-- offered, not asked, out of whatever goodness was left in his heart-- when the crew got an all-hands on deck call from down in Engineering. Something about FBA couplings not meshing with the arrays, something that would take at least half a dozen people to fix. Garrus offered to work on it in his Quarters while Goldstein went down to try and fix it. He didn’t even have a real excuse to stay in the Quarters. He just didn’t feel like getting up from the chair he had already positioned himself at. He was comfortable. He stayed because he was comfortable, something the Spectres tried to stamp out of him, the illusion of luxury. 

Shepard walked straight in, door slicing shut behind her. Her hair was sopping wet, dripping on the floor in little patter-patters and leaving great big wet patches on the shoulders of her tank. She had this special requisition of shampoo-- she claimed it was a medical necessity, something called dandruff that vaguely sounds like a heart pressure medication-- but really it was because she liked the smell of it. So did Garrus. To be fair, he liked just about everything about Shepard. But that shampoo? Flowers and fruit and a little bit of spice, like she was candy, like he could lean in and take a bite and taste something sweeter than he’d ever tasted before in his life. 

“Oh,” Shepard said, like the breath was already gone from her lungs before she tried to talk. Garrus stood, because he felt it was the right thing to do. She held up the paperback in her hand, the spine completely cracked, the pages bent in all sorts of angles. “Gabby wanted this. But the issue down below and all, I was just gonna leave it on her bunk…” 

He was never going to get another opportunity like this. He knew it, deep in his gut. He couldn’t wait for another opportunity to occur organically like this. Sure, he could knock on the door of her quarters any night. Sure, he could send her a message to her tool that he wanted her to meet in the Battery to discuss some lame excuse to get her alone. But any trail-- paper, electronic, verbal-- could lead Saleon and Elx back to Garrus being the grand mastermind of his escape. And that was something he could not risk. 

Wordlessly, Garrus hurried towards the door behind Shepard. He twisted the interface on the door, locking it from the outside. He didn’t know how long it took to replace FBA couplings, and did not need the distraction of the human crew filtering in and out of their Quarters. 

“What’re you--?” Shepard said. He was so nervous that she sounded distant, as if placed through several voice filters, some recording of an AI pretending to be human. 

“Quiet.” 

For good measure, Garrus took his visor off. He was immediately dizzy, his eyes struggling to adjust as he stuffed it underneath the first pillow he could get to. It wasn’t foolproof, it was so far from it that it was actually laughable. As if fabric could stop Elx and Saleon from hacking its comms and listening in. It felt better than doing nothing. 

“Garrus, what--?” 

“I said shut up.” 

He was in front of Shepard. He was so close, one deep breath and his carapace would hit her chin. She had this knack of making her eyes seem like the biggest things on her face. He couldn’t peel himself from her face as he blindly reached for the book in her hand and tossed it on the ground, the sound of old pages bending almost louder than his heart beating in his chest. Still, somehow, Shepard’s eyes got even bigger. He thought, at that moment, he wouldn’t need to go through with his plan. He could just kiss her instead. Because despite everything the Spectres tried to do to him, it hadn’t stamped out the innate desire he felt to kiss Delia Shepard at every hour of every day. 

“What?” she whispered, not bothering to expand the question into any statement that was longer than one word. One word was all that was really necessary. He wondered if she thought about kissing him, too. If that thought permeated through her brain and her bloodstream until it was the only thing she could think about. Then, maybe, they’d have something in common again.

Guys, I wanna drop the current reboot and redo it all.

I just had this dream about some jester-like villain that looked like Caine and Spamton (he even had Alex Rochon's voice, too!) trapping people in wacky whimsical worlds, and inspiration instantly dawned on me.

Like, just imagine the concept: an arcane anomaly affects the human world, and now sneaky spectres trap people into dream-like realms, causing its victims' sanity and grasp on reality gradually slip away. Having no other choice, the higher-ups of the Magical Realm team up with the humans to stop the spectres' schemes.

The main pre-requisite for humans to fight against the anomalies is to be eccentric, creative, whimsical, artistic and a child at heart (basically, an all-around weirdo), with many of them being enthusiasts and sympathizers of alternative fashion; they're referred as the Dreamweavers.

Some elements from early drafts will be reused, but the aesthetic will be changed completely into something more whimsigoth and spacecore-ish, something like PMMM: The Rebellion Story and Paprika.

So, if you notice some missing posts, that's me rebooting my spiritual successor because I've finally found my inspiration.
