Happy Sci-Fi Dolphin Saturday! Here’s an all-timer: Rick Sternbach’s “Cetacean Tomorrow,” used for the March 1980 cover to ‘Future Life.’
I actually interviewed Rick about this artwork for my email newsletter, check it out: https://70s-sci-fi-art.ghost.io/interview-rick-sternbacks-dolphin-suit/

Utterly devastated nobody told me there was a vase painting of Poseidon rushing toward Medusa's decapitated body while one of her sisters looks like she's trying to stop him from seeing the bloody scene... implying he either visits her regularly or she called for him before she died :(

How do you imagine hybrids work in love and legends? We've seen elf/humans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So there are 6 different species and aside from the mermaids, they're all compatable to have children.
I headcanon life expectancy, colouration, and the shape of facial or body features to be gradient traits, so they pretty much randomly combine between the two parents like any other child
Magical traits are probably more binary. So a fairy hybrid child could inherit the eyes, wings, and/or sparkles, or none, with no middle ground. A demon hybrid will usually inherit a faded form of the markings, but they won't always be able to transform or earn horns. Dwarf hybrids might inherit the ability to echolocate vs just having larger ears.
If two species with strong magic have a child, they're more likely to inherit magical traits (e.g. elves and fairies with strong magic vs humans and dwarves with low magic)
Considering the domains are all friendly with each other, I imagine it's fairly common to have mixed ancestry and there's no real taboo aside from the grief of lifespan differences

Mermay Special Prompt 4
Go on vacation, they said. We can watch Gotham, they said. Just go hang with and adjust to caring for kids, they said. Yeah, well no one said anything about getting cursed while at the vacation lake house, which okay, fine. But did it have to affect the kids too?
Bruce pressed his head in his hands, groaning in dismay as the children practically zoomed around the surrounding water with enthusiastic trills and squeals he could somehow understand. And through the air, to their increasing delight. Okay. Okay this is fine.
It wasn’t like he also somehow now had an extra child who looked like one at most that he had no clue as to where they came from. Said child wasn’t squirming in his arms, black scales and tiny fins akin to the setting of a sun twisting as they chirped. Definitely not.
Okay. Alright. He could figure this out. Probably…. hopefully…

Blown by fast winds from a hot, massive star, this cosmic bubble is huge. SH2-308, also known as The Dolphin-head Nebula, is cataloged as Sharpless 2-308 and lies 5,000 light-years away toward the constellation Canis Major and covers a diameter of 60 light-years at its estimated distance. The massive star that created the bubble, a Wolf-Rayet star, is the bright one near the center of the nebula. Wolf-Rayet stars have over 20 times the mass of the Sun and are thought to be in a brief, pre-supernova phase of massive star evolution. Fast winds from this Wolf-Rayet star create the bubble-shaped nebula as they sweep up slower moving material from an earlier phase of evolution. The windblown nebula has an age of about 70,000 years. Relatively faint emission captured by narrowband filters in the deep image is dominated by the glow of ionized oxygen atoms mapped to a blue hue.

Raise your hands for Space Dolphin Saturday! Here's Ron Walotsky's 1977 cover for "Apocalypses," by R.A. Lafferty (with an annoying sticker), plus another slightly modified version.
