Southport Pier. Lomo LC-A. Fujichrome 100, expired 1989, shot at 50, developed at 100.
Construction of Southport Pier began in 1859. It opened a year later as "the country's first pleasure pier." Officially the second longest in the country it fell into disrepair during the latter half of the last century and narrowly avoided being demolished in 1990.
Sadly it was mostly closed when I visited earlier this year. Despite the weather being a bit dull I managed to get these photos with my LC-A.

was regulus drowning even in canon
or has that been adopted from Neville's experience of Blackpool pier
(currently listening to the books, and Neville mentioned nearly drowning in Blackpool... but there are fics and all sorts talking about Reg nearly drowning in Blackpool - one is called (wait for it) Blackpool. so much Blackpool. of all places? don't people drown in Brighton? or Inverness? OK so maybe not Southport, but...? why tf are the Blacks going to Blackpool? Don't they have standards? is Walburga out there hexing them for not having rock with Reg's name on? wtf)

in reference to this post, i’m gonna have a lax little group set in huntington beach, california and surrounding muses ages 21-45 ( maybe 50.. i’ll tweak soon when i decide ) because older muses deserve a place too !! i’m capping it at ten muns for now and it’ll be moots/friends/vibe check clearance exclusive for maximum comfort for everyone. basic rules and info are as follows:
obviously, no god-modding, ship/face-chasing, bubble roleplaying, ooc drama, generally abusive, insensitive or intolerant behaviour, etc or you’re out ! we’re all adults here, so while i’ll intervene when something is brought to my attention, i should assume we all know how to act for these tough and uncomfortable conversations to be avoided or handled privately and considerately.
age ( outside of established rule in next point ) and race-bending are also BIG no’s so let’s not do that, yeah?
muses, fcs and muns must be 21+ to be considerate of ages of majority in some parts, and the rule for aging a muse will be +/- 4 years per the fc’s current age.
recent community fuckery has me adding this, smh. if shipping/having romantic connections comes about, do consider the ages of both muse and fc and not indulge in massive age gaps or power imbalances; chemistry is so valid, but we also have to bear in mind the implications of a 30+ year old fc being with a 22 year old fc, especially as 21 is the youngest age accepted.
you can apply with 2 muses with one being gender, body or racially diverse since i’m not about to facilitate a white and cis as fuck environment because there’s no reason in 2023 ?? this goes for every second muse you pick up when additional muses are allowed once things kick off.
banned fcs shouldn’t have to be rattled off like crazy since lots of lists exist for people who don’t wish to be used and we know most of the problematic people to be wary of, but for those who are either still used in abundance or conflict with personal comfort ( which muns can add onto once accepted ), they include: the hadids, the jenners, kj apa, cole sprouse, nicola peltz, justin bieber, timothée chalamet, ester exposito, dove cameron, danna paola, legacies cast, angus cloud, any zionist, pro-trump or anti-blm tools, sabrina carpenter, george sear, gavin leatherwood, matt daddario, josefine frida pettersen.
interest checks will be on a weekly basis since we all have work, school and other commitments to prioritize at times and rp is a hobby ! since this won’t be an open group, activity checks and hiatuses won’t be mandatory at the moment.
THE APP !
[ faceclaim, age, gender, pronouns ] — i think i just saw FIRST LAST leaving the pier with AESTHETIC ITEM + AESTHETIC ITEM in hand. you haven’t heard of them? they’re a/n OCCUPATION from HOMETOWN, living in NEIGHBOURHOOD and you can always find them at THEIR FAVOURITE SPOT. i don’t know, they seem pretty - NEGATIVE to most, but i thought they were + POSITIVE when i spoke to them; we’ll just have to wait and see what else they have in store for us. [ mun name/alias, age, pronouns, tz ]
feel free to add extras to get a feel for your muse ! it doesn’t impact acceptance if i’m being honest, but i always love a little insight if someone’s even willing to provide it LMAO
SAMPLE APP !
[ tingting_lai, 22, cis woman, she/her ] — i think i just saw PHOEBE ZHU leaving the pier with A SCRUNCHIE COORDINATED TO HER OUTFIT + RASPBERRY PEACH ITALIAN SODA in hand. you haven’t heard of them? they’re a STUDENT/RETAIL CLERK from SOUTHPORT, CONNECTICUT, living in GOLDENWEST and you can always find them at THE BEACH. i don’t know, they seem pretty - PERFECTIONISTIC to most, but i thought they were + EBULLIENT when i spoke to them; we’ll just have to wait and see what else they have in store for us. [ jules, 25, she/her, nt ]
TAKEN FCS !

^^^^^^^^
i live in liverpool which is the major city near southport. the library they torched was my local one. the area is very working class and high immigration. that’s probably why the rioters chose it. it’s terrifying rn and i’m fucking *white*. i was lucky enough to be out of town when shit went down but im genuinely terrified for people of colour in my community.
these people are literal book burning nazis and should be treated as such. 0 fucking tolerance.
apartheid clyde and nigel ‘place milkshake here with force’ farage can fuck right off they don’t know shit what they’re talking about. they don’t care either tbh. they don’t see what’s acctually happening they don’t see people dying or in danger they just see it as a opportunity to whip up controversy and get attention for themselves and thier garbage and it’s sickening
please donate like the op said or go to any protests you can or feel safe doing, esp if you’re white it’s safer and it’s so fucking important to show not only support but willingness to stand up against these cunts and help people feel even a tiny bit safer again after this shit.
for ppl who also live in or near liverpool, theres a counter protest at the pier head tomorrow (10th august) at 12. searching local groups or subreddits for your area if you live elsewhere in the UK will find other counter protests. be safe.
i feel like people are skimming over the uk riots in a way that makes me want to tear my hair out. muslims in the uk are in active danger. immigrants in the uk are in active danger. refugees in the uk are in active danger. people of colour in the uk are in active danger. asian communities in the uk are in active danger. black communities in the uk are in active danger.
there are massive far right riots throughout the country right now and people like fucking elon musk and nigel farage are inciting it and still have a platform to speak. people have used three young girls deaths, people's genuine grief in southport, to try and gain traction for their own racist bullshit and it's working.
a lot of refugee charities have been forced to close leaving many people without support, homes, funding, food, etc. if you aren't able to donate please consider sending a message via the conversation over borders campaign! it will send a hopeful, welcoming letter to a refugee in the uk. there is also a guide to staying safe here.
please do your own research and donate to refugee charities, anti-islamophobia charities, mosques who are trying to rebuild after being destroyed, counter protesters, here are some i've heard positive things about but the list is extensive; southport strong together (support for the southport victims and their families), emergency unity fund, southport mosque rebuilding, riot repair fund, middlesbrough vulnerable residents, nasir mosque rebuilding, hull help for refugees, bristol welcomes migrants,

Old Flames
Diary Entry – October 10, 2024 Today I ended up going to Southport on the bus. It’s been years since I’ve wandered those streets, but as soon as I stepped off, it was like I was transported back in time. I walked down the pier, past the fair, and along the promenade where all the arcades are, the same ones where I spent hours as a teen. Memories came flooding back of the friends I had back then,…

frenching my athletes.
A stabbing in Southport, Merseyside, United Kingdom, near Sussex Road, left three little girls dead. Please don’t harm children.
Your handiwork, Henri.
Why not blaze a trail like Malcolm X, next to your bedhire wife, whom you don’t live with, and go console the mournful parents by pointing heavenward to declare pedos first and coax them to watch your bullshit interview?
An unasked-for televised event was your Oprah interview. It caused a self-made billionaire and media leader to plead, on air, to be chiseled free. It was where the wife, in scripted speech and zero cyber allowance, taught us that the Internet is the wild, wild, West and oppressive racism permeates on the corner of Lord Privilege Avenue and Barrington Court. Your new interview on online harm was that royal curriculum of sort of admitting yes you’re that leading hunched figure on the Internet posting internal messages of fenced-in childhood rape that spell disaster while your NDA-signed robot, paid to not look at media reports, feigns digital awareness concern. I’m supposed to flip the normal life lies, rat rationality, do-goodness, nope they’re pathologically evil. As if it were so easy.
You advertise Rachel’s homemaker show, for whatever reason, with a nod to rape culture so that even Martha Stewart equals a bowl of soup or starter course to you. You need to stop borrowing Martha’s domestic businesswoman identity. The Executive Summit doesn’t exist. You use repurposed photos to mislead the public. Hamptons is “mattress” and “stamped” and “knotted” toward an unconsenting girl. Your partnered lies result in self-harm and tragedy, but do continue.
Because we’re all so rapt, hemorrhaging sympathy for a life-stealing prince with access to media. One person not buying your shit is model and author, Stephanie Adams, who jumped to her death in NYC on the eve of your vanity wedding. She was holding her young son at the time.
A 2005 AP Archive birthday promotional video: Prince Harry Celebrates 21st Birthday On Thursday. 45 seconds—amidst a prairie grassland barns & noble—you talk of a roll in the hay. Your words: “Probably do something crude. Nothing worth mentioning on camera. We’ve celebrated other guys’ birthdays so far with cards, but, luckily, I think we finish exercise, so we may tuck into a beer or two if we’re lucky.” You’re Charlie demanding, in opposite Irish pro-bono terms, that you’re owed a girl after burying her into the earth. The old brooms that lean on green windows? You are trying to claim first cousin anatomical property in rape-like fashion.
In Xtinction, we’ve lifted digital camouflaging on Archillect, Murat Pak, Elon Musk, Piers Morgan, Spencer Morgan and Bill Ackman. You’re the main Twitterer for miles around. You controlled former President Trump’s page upon a time where you etched the garish: “Despite the constant negative press covfefe.” At 12:06 a.m. A morsel of non-words welded together for Tom.
Another endeavor of yours was tweeting insult-laden mapwork about Haters and Losers.
Loser is the world’s biggest action star who performs his own mountainside and flying stunts.
Hate means implicit cruelty and other trappings, but mostly girl-owner (philanthropist). You rearrange letters in Cheat. In 2003, you tried to play victim by pointing a finger or foot at an uncle jailer, wearing painted artistic bloodstains. Though, you’ve been presiding judge. Google: Prince Won’t Face 2nd Probe on Cheating Claims—NBC News.
Hate means 8. You linked, chained, harnessed, handcuffed my star cult. No small matter, it’s just the cult is being killed off by your wife and family. Evan Wright, Rolling Stone reporter and author of Generation Kill, which was a tv series. Suicide. Gun to the head. July 12, 2024. British fashion designer, Alexander McQueen. Suicide. February 11, 2010. Green Street, London.
You tweeted this gleaming passage: “I would like to extend my best wishes to all, even the haters and losers, on this special date, September 11.” That’s one way to use the World Trade Center inferno to tell America, the military, all humanity of your 911 policing job.
Smart.

Tony's slightly hazy photograph of the magnificent sunset beyond St Annes on Sea pier, taken last month. We were sure that the sand level around the pier and the jetty had risen since last summer. Indeed, I was able to climb on top of the jetty which I couldn't do before. And I've witnessed several mini-sandstorms sweeping southwards, with the effect of covering the land with more sand.
At one time, it was a busy, working jetty. I posted some photos ages ago, and mentioned the fact that the level of the beach has risen some 20ft since docks were constructed in/around the city of Preston, which displaced loads of sand to be washed up elsewhere. I can't remember any more details, but it is something I always intend to find out more about, e.g. by writing to the local history bods. I'm fascinated to find out, for example, whether the level lowers or whether it remains constant all the way up the Flyde coast to Fleetwood.
Oh yeh, just as a little anecdote - we were caught out by the tide creeping behind our backs and encircling us. The sea was a far distance from the promenade, like at Southport, and we'd finally reached the waves, singing and laughing as we do. We'd only been there for what seemed like a couple of minutes when Toto turned round and realised our predicament. We had to make an immediate dash for it through about 15ft of knee-high water, and it meant we wandered around in damp boots for the rest of the holiday! Tony told the story to one of the cleaning ladies at the hotel and she said the same had happened to her at Cleveleys, only she'd had to swim back!!
Crikey!!

FMP: Origins of the Seaside Fairground. LO1
Easter Week 2
Historic Amusement Parks and Fairground Rides By Historic England:
Summary:
With origins that can be traced to annual fairs and 18th-century pleasure grounds, and much influenced by America’s Coney Island amusement park of the 1890s, England has one of the finest amusement park and fairground ride heritages in the world. A surprising amount survives today. The most notable site is Blackpool Pleasure Beach which has an unrivalled heritage of pre-1939 fairground rides. Other early survivals in England include scenic railways at Margate and Great Yarmouth, and water splash rides in parks at Kettering, Kingston-upon-Hull and Scarborough that date from the 1920s.
The surviving seaside amusement parks at Blackpool, Great Yarmouth and Southport, Lancashire (re-opened), and Dreamland at Margate, were founded in the late 19th and early 20th century, but their origins can be traced back in Britain to the annual fairs that took place throughout the country. pg.2
Today, Coney Island no longer glitters so brightly, but the footprints of the parks are still evident. pg.4
In 1906 over three million people visited the Pleasure Beach. pg.6
Seaside amusement parks have been in a serious decline in England, with Blackpool, Great Yarmouth and Southport (re-opened) being the only traditional parks that have remained open. pg.20
Some seaside piers are now also the home to fairground rides. With space being limited many attractions are inevitably aimed at younger riders, but Blackpool’s South Pier offers the Sky Coaster and the Sky Screamer, rides that catapult the adventurous high into the sky. pg.20
Today the only fairground rides that enjoy statutory protection are Margate’s Scenic Railway at Dreamland (Grade II*) and the Water Chute at Wicksteed Park at Kettering (Grade II). However, England has a rich heritage of amusement park rides and Blackpool Pleasure Beach has the finest collection of historic rides in the world. Great Yarmouth also has an early Scenic Railway of international importance. In due course national and local listing is likely to include these to reflect their importance to telling the story of our seaside holidays. pg.20
Reflection, LO4:
This source talked a lot about the rides themselves, but it was still insightful to see how there has been a decline in seaside amusements.

Fairground attractions: A genealogy of the pleasure ground By Deborah Philips:
The excursion trains that made the Great Exhibition such a popular success were also responsible for transforming Blackpool into a major tourist attraction and made possible the ‘world’s first working class seaside resort’ (Walton 1998: 10). The coming of the railways in the 1840s had transformed Blackpool from a provincial resort with a focus on sea bathing to the first commercial leisure resort in Britain. pg.20
Coney Island in New York had been, like Blackpool, a seaside resort that grew because of the railways. Excursion trains brought in their wake investors in hotels and attractions, so that what had once been a board walk of small independent stalls became America’s largest commercial pleasure ground. pg.21
The two seaside resorts combined popular modernity, mass consumption and a new collective experience. At the same time, they offered settings for more traditional entertainments across a broad taste spectrum: from dioramas, firework spectacles and music and dance halls. (Cross and Walton 2005: 55) pg.23
The attractions at Coney Island and Blackpool were closely allied to those unveiled at the trades fairs and exhibitions held across the world throughout the late nineteenth century and into the twentieth. Each World’s Fair displayed the newest technological attractions, and these were rapidly taken up and transported to the fairgrounds of Coney Island and Blackpool. pg.23
Blackpool’s motto was (and remains) ‘Progress’, and its appeal lies in its constant reinvention of seaside traditions while simultaneously offering the visitor the latest technological attraction. Like Coney Island, its attractions, from carousels to space pods, relied on industrial innovations. pg.23
Hastings mentioned!:
British seaside locations have developed their own superstitions and myths of smugglers and pirates. Ailing seaside towns in Britain have capitalised on real histories of smuggling and adventuring, and converted their caves into tourist attractions and their historical smugglers into dashing pirates. ‘Smugglers’ Adventure’ in Hastings was once the site of battles between customs and smugglers, and the publicity invites the visitor to ‘relive the dangers and excitement that faced the smugglers and Customs officers’ when some ‘40,000 men were involved in this illicit, profitable but dangerous trade’ (www.smugglersadventure.co.uk). The Hastings caves are real, with caverns and tunnels that genuinely did witness the ‘illicit trade’ of smuggling. The ‘themed experience’, however, owes more to the Disney attraction Pirates of the Caribbean than it does to its own history, with its animatronic figures and props of oak casks, muskets and galleon ships. Littlehampton Harbour Park, also on the British South Coast, not far from Hastings, has erased its harbour history entirely in favour of piracy; its promotional leaflet is adorned with the skull and crossbones and features smiling children dressed in the eye patches, headscarves and stripy tee shirts that are the iconic pirate uniform. pg.166
Combinations of these titles and elements continue to appear in fairground and seaside attractions; ‘Space Pirates’ is a mechanical coin-operated ride at Brighton Pier. pg.183
Reflection, LO4:
This book was more insightful in giving me the contexts as to why things were made the way they were, such as why the seaside is embodied by stories of pirates, and why Blackpool stood out from the rest of the parks. It was an exciting surprise when Hastings came up, and I recall seeing people dressed as pirates along the seafront, wondering where there was relevancy.
