Sk8er bois and grrrls from the 90s rejoiced when Avril Lavigne announced a tour earlier this year to support her latest record “Head Above Water”.  She kicked off the show with images of herself in a white flowing dress on the beach and in the water.  When she came on stage, she had mirrored that look and gave the show a thrilling performance of the title track.  A quick change and she was back on stage to continue the show, which included songs from the new record as well as older hits.  Jagwar Twin (aka Roy English) opened.

The view from Pier 17, at the South Street Seaport, is wonderful.  It made me want to walk on the Brooklyn Bridge.  But on my way there, I became sidetracked by another magnificent sight.  After taking pictures of One World Trade Center, I decided to save the Brooklyn Bridge walk for another day:)  (Photo taken on July 26, 2018)

If you have your Picture This Photography NYC Calendar this is your October 2022 image “Pumpkin Arch over Brooklyn Bridge”
This image was captured early Sunday morning before the crowds arrived at Pier 17 South Street Seaport framing The Brooklyn Bridge & The East River within the Arch. It is a full sized structure made of pumpkins, leaves & vines with gorgeous detail within the colours & textures and is always a popular place to visit during the Fall season.
Pumpkins are synonymous with Fall in NYC and bring to mind crisp & cooler days, falling leaves, gorgeous fall colour palettes and a melancholy feeling. Pumpkins are varieties of Squash and are primarily orange in colour however they do grown in white & yellow under certain conditions. They are most commonly associated with lanterns for Halloween and household displays for Thanksgiving. Pumpkin farms can be found in Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island, Hudson Valley & New Jersey and are always a fun family day out!
📷 This image was shot from a low angle to create the framing & encompass the size & magnitude of the Brooklyn Bridge and positioned to also include the skyline behind.
Location-Heineken Riverdeck Pier 17, South Street Seaport
Time of Day-Sunday morning, approx 8am
Camera Settings-Deep Depth of Field, focus on The Arch, Landscape settings, Low ISO to create natural light & colour & slowest shutter speed available for hand held shot.
South Street Seaport-is located in Lower Manhattan on the East River between the Brooklyn Bridge & Pier 11 Ferry Terminal. It is a historic neighbuorhood filled with cobbled streets. indoor & outdoor restaurants, museums, shops and row houses.
The neighbourhood also houses several Tall Ships & The South Street Seaport Museum, both are well worth visiting to learn more about the fascinating history of the neighbourhood.
The views up, down & across The East River are spectacular & it is a particularly amazing place to watch the sunrise from as it rises under the bridges.
The Brooklyn Bridge-is a hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge across The East River between Lower Manhattan & DUMBO, Brooklyn. Opened on May 24, 1883 the Brooklyn Bridge was the first fixed crossing of the East River. it is beautiful & so photogenic whatever the weather and is commutable via walk/bike lanes in addition to driving. No train lines cross The Brooklyn Bridge.
If you are around South Street Seaport this is a fantastic place to visit to view the "Pumpkin Arch over Brooklyn Bridge"

Imagine the anticipation. It was 25yrs ago, in 1996, that the Fugees dropped their classic LP, The Score. An album that shaped the flow, style n' chemistry of hip-hop (& other genres of) artists worldwide.
Fast-forward to Sept. 22nd, 2021 in NYC on a rooftop overlooking the East River, drapped by the skyline of lower Manhattan. So, after multiple worldwide tours, countless solo album/single releases among Wyclef, Pras and most notably, Ms. Lauryn Hill aka L-Boogie with her undisputed, The Miseducation...
The anticipation. A packed house, a frantic crowd swirling rumors n' jabs at Ms. Lauryn Hill either not showing-up, resorting to Zoom on the big screen, or stepping on stage extra extra late. Again, the anticipation. With tunes spinning from Ms. Hill's personal DJ, dj reborn, kicking off jams at 8p-ish to settle the scene of over-21yr olds, older heads and everyone in-between, me myself had to check backstage n' throughout the VIP when I saw the clock strike 9:45p after we'd been in anticipation since 7p-ish. Reassuring when i saw Jerry Wonder knocking back drinks, along with what looked like some other musicians dressed to a T, all in unison. Oh, Busta was also back there, amongst others. And I calculated, no way with the backing of Live Nation × Global Citizen, not to mention open bar and tons of food (in VIP), this would be a no-show. Grabbed my drinks and headed stage-side once again. Quelled the rumors, passed some drinks around n' at 10p, musicians slowly walked 'pon the stage, lights dimmed as the crowded sea of people howled loudly! The Fugees didn't even hit the stage yet...but in soon time. Again, the anticipation.
The multi-piece band with a broad horn-section, appeared like a Black Mariachi ensemble, decked off. Ready or not. Horns blowing, drinks flowing and the moon lit up South Street Seaport knowing, where my stars at?!?!
Wyclef walked out first, in an all-black McQueen 3-piece suit, Pras was next in a custom-decorated white, multi-gem laced jacket that blinded us. And in typical fashion, like a rose blossoming in real time, Ms. Lauryn Hill in an all-red bombshell dress, frills et al, circular sunglasses and looking royal AF, assured the moon that night, we the stars tonight!
Their set wasn't too long, roughly 45mins too short, especially since we waited over 3hrs to see them reunite. But we waited. Might've been midnight before they hit the stage, I think 95% of the crowd would've just kicked back like, we will wait shit.. Running through classics such as "Ready or Not", "No Woman, No Cry", "Zealots" and "Fu-Gee-La" -- a song that still gives me goosebumps, the highlights for me came when Wyclef brought up the current Haitian refugee Texas-border situation, addressing 'Mr. Biden' (corrected to 'President Biden'), then burst into a new track that mesmerized us into a frenzy of defiant, pro-Haitian, clenched-fist energy! And Ms. Lauryn Hill took a lil' time to explain herself, her hiatus and absence from the "industry politics" so calmly and so respectively, it felt like a 20-year apology to all her fans in disguise. Then, she smashed her only solo, "Killing Me Softly With His Song", where even the Pier 17 staff just had to sing along too. Just electric. So thankful we in NYC got 1st dibs. The anticipation continues...
Catch them on tour worldwide, soon. See two more video-posts on my insta!

The Seaport features some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan, and includes the largest concentration of restored early 19th-century commercial buildings in the city. This includes renovated original mercantile buildings, renovated sailing ships, the former Fulton Fish Market, and modern tourist malls featuring food, shopping, and nightlife. Check the video out! If you enjoy, please like, comment and subscribe on You Tube. Don't forget to look for Cabby in the clips. First to find him and comments gets a mention in my next video!

AWOLNATION Brings Fans "The Best" / Announces Tour With Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness
Tumblr media
NEW YORK, NY - NOVEMBER 5th: Today AWOLNATION releases "The Best" – the heir apparent to their most enduring hit song ever, "Sail." The track is the debut single from the band's forthcoming album, their 4th overall and their first with BETTER NOISE Music. Due out in 2020, the album features guest appearances by Rivers Cuomo of Weezer and Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Better Noise Music is an artist development company that creates and markets entertainment content across various media platforms. Of the band's recent signing to the label, managers Berko Pearce and Scott Sheldon of RM64 say "It's exciting to partner with a label that's at the forefront of marketing in the new streaming era, and that has a proven track record of helping their artists reach bigger audiences. We've been enjoying working with the BETTER NOISE team on an integrated strategy across streaming, touring and radio, and we're eager to launch AWOLNATION's next projects with them." Aaron Bruno, the songwriter and architect behind AWOLNATION, says of the new single, which will also kick off the new album, "I'm always on the journey to improving myself, but all along, knowing it's close to impossible to really be the best at anything. And what does it mean to be the best? And does that really matter? Or maybe it is more about the journey and acceptance of comfort within one's own existence" The music video for "The Best," directed by Amalia Irons, also helps to tell the beginning of the new album's story and introduce one of the main characters. "I wanted to make a video that felt like some of my favorite childhood adventure movies and create something that has a magical feeling of the autumn season," says Bruno of the video. AWOLNATION will venture out on a headlining tour next year with special guest Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness and openers The Beaches and Bleeker, kicking off the tour on Memorial Day weekend in Asbury Park, NJ as the opening concert for the 2020 Stony Pony Summer Stage series.
