Film Festivals and industry events take place in New York State throughout the year. The following is a list of upcoming events:
New York Cat Film Festival—Dec. 1 An exploration through film of the fascinating felines who share our lives, the annual festival will benefit local animal welfare groups and salute those who work and volunteer on their behalf.  
New York Dog Film Festival – Dec. 2 This philanthropic celebration offers dog lovers a shared audience experience of canine-themed films from around the world. After each fall New York City premiere, the festival travels around the country, supporting local animal welfare groups which bring people and pets together.
South Asian International Film Festival —Dec. 12-16 SAIFF is the largest film premiere destination for South Asian/Indian filmmakers in the United States. The Festival is committed to exhibiting films from South Asia (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal) and within the Indian Diaspora.
New York Women in Film & Television Muse Awards—Dec. 13 The annual gala holiday luncheon celebrating women of vision and achievement is NYWIFT’s flagship fundraising event, and is attended by an enthusiastic audience of 1,200 leading executives from every major studio, broadcast and cable network and film production facility.
Red Carpet Film Awards—Dec. 21 A quarterly film competition based in New York City has a mission to discover and reward filmmakers who are passionate about storytelling by celebrating films worldwide with awards in different categories and genres.

New York No Limits Film Series—Jan. 9 Whether you are a filmmaker with a long history of success or just cut your first short, No Limits Film Series is a refuge for films inside or outside the bounds in the heart of the most storied arts community anywhere, and features short and feature films that have been produced within the last two years.
New York Jewish Film Festival—Jan. 10-23 The Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center continue their partnership, showing films from around the world that explore the diversity of Jewish experience, featuring an exciting lineup of documentary, narrative, and short films, including new work by fresh voices in international cinema as well as restored classics.
Snowtown Film Festival—Jan. 25-26 A winter celebration of film held annually in historic downtown Watertown, N.Y., features films from throughout the world that emphasize winter and the spirit of the greater “Northern New York" region.   A community-wide celebration of filmmaking, the two-day schedule includes feature length official selections, a juried short film competition, filmmaker panel discussions and an awards ceremony.

Srinivasan Narayanan, former festival director of MAMI, i.e. Mumbai Academy of Moving Image, has now moved to Singapore South Asian International Film Festival, i.e. Sg. He has joined SAIFF as Festival Director. Sg. The third edition of SAIFF is scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 7 in many locations in Singapore.

Hindi cinema will get more recognition
After Srinivasan Narayanan, deputy director of the Indian International Film Festival, became the director of this film festival, the big trading houses of Hindi cinema are also expected to get special recognition in this festival. Narayanan has assumed this enormous responsibility after the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images, that is, the Mami film festival.

Ithaca Fantastik Film Festival – Oct. 26-Nov. 4 The Ithaca Fantastik Film Festival is a 10-day film, art, and music festival, carefully curated submissions that bring the most exciting and intriguing, mind-bending, beautiful and flat-out weird films from domestic and international filmmakers to fans.
High Falls Women’s Film Festival – Nov. 1-5 Founded in 2001, the High Falls Women’s Film Festival celebrates the work of women filmmakers and is one of the longest running women’s film festivals on the East Coast. The Festival celebrates the artistry and innovation of women in film — behind the camera, in leading roles on the screen, and at the heart of storylines. The focus on women in film is inspired by Rochester’s legacy as the birthplace of film (George Eastman and Kodak) and the women’s rights movement (Susan B. Anthony). The offerings include an international slate of independent films enhanced by panels, workshops, and talks with filmmakers.
The YoFi Fest – Nov. 2-11 The festival celebrates the independent, artistic spirit with a full schedule of films that you might not see anywhere else, both from around the world and right in our own back yard. We screen all types of work, including features, shorts, comedies, dramas, documentaries, animation, and student work.  The festival features talkback Q&A sessions at almost every screening, a "mini film school” series of workshops taught by award-winning industry professionals, "Speed Networking" events with the opportunity to connect in a fun and fast environment, and parties and receptions for filmmakers and film fans.
Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival – Nov. 2-8 Buffalo Dreams is a filmmaker friendly event which celebrates the best independent films from around the world in the following categories: Action, Animation, Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Family, Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction and Thriller. The festival separates content into three divisions: North American (U.S. and Canada), International, and Western New York. The Young Student Filmmaker Award, limited to Western New Yorkers, aims to introduce students underage 17 to the film festival experience. In addition, the Original Screenplay competition is always judged by a professional writer, and the five finalists receive notes from the judge. This year, the competition will be judged by acclaimed horror and humor author Jeff Strand.
Gold Coast International Film Festival – Nov. 2-13 Located on the “Gold Coast” in the Town of North Hempstead, the Festival was founded with the purpose of establishing a home on Long Island to showcase the work of exceptional filmmakers and provide the public with an insider’s view of the film industry. Nitehawk Shorts Festival – Nov. 7-12 Since 2013, the mission of the Nitehawk Shorts Festival has been to highlight exceptional short-form film and videos by artists and filmmakers, featuring a range of filmmakers, from emerging film school students to Academy Award nominees, in curated screenings that prioritize conversations between the films over categorical listings. The Festival provides an inclusive platform for filmmakers to encourage an engagement with new audiences and to establish a dialogue with the New York film community.
New York’s Documentary Festival (DOCNYC) – Nov. 8-15 DOC NYC burst upon the scene in 2010 with an inaugural event that was hailed as “ambitious” (New York Times) and “selective but eclectic” (Village Voice). By 2014, DOC NYC had become America’s largest documentary film festival and voted by MovieMaker magazine as one of the “top five coolest documentary film festivals in the world”.  Based at the West Village’s IFC Center, Chelsea’s SVA Theater and Bow Tie Chelsea Cinema, the eight-day festival showcases new achievements in documentary film along with panels and conversations.  It also seeks to make connections that happen “only in New York.” In 2017, the festival showcased 300+ films and events, presented by 200+ filmmakers and special guests.

Lake Champlain International Film Festival – Nov. 1-5 The Lake Champlain International Film Festival (LCIFF) turns the spotlight on new films and filmmakers working in any and all genres and forms of film. High Falls Film Festival – Nov. 2-6 The High Falls Film Festival celebrates the achievements of women in all aspects of filmmaking; through programs that recognize the best work of female cinematic artists. The Festival includes features, documentaries, shorts, and children's programs, parties, meet & greets and educational panels/workshops.
The YoFi Fest – Nov. 3-9 YoFi Fest is curated by award-winning film and television professionals and designed to encourage audiences and filmmakers to watch and talk about movies together. Voted one of the Top 100 Best Reviewed Festivals on FilmFreeway, YoFiFest was created for filmmakers by filmmakers. Founded in 1949,  the nation's oldest not-for-profit organization seeks to enhance economic, diplomatic, and cultural ties between Turkey and the United States. The Society informs the American public about Turkey's current affairs, economy, history, and society; and presents and supports programs highlighting Turkish arts and culture.
