This is Sangpuy 桑布伊 aka ‘Sangpuy Katatepan Mavaliyw, a musician from Taiwan's Pinuyumayan tribe' From Taitung, born 1977.  Awarded Best Aboriginal singer at the 24th & 28th Golden Melody Awards.  

A plaintive melody and a gorgeous, understated arrangement for 擁抱 maava, a song from his 2020 得力量 pulu'em album.

The 6-piece RnB / rock band formed in 2016, and they have some earlier demos at YT, but this is their first single. Very slick!

Some acoustic beauties before I hit the hay...

Zooey Wonder 黃玠瑋 and her guitar for 例假日/DAY OFF YT channel. This song is much more electronic on her 2017 Wonderland album, (LISTEN HERE), but it’s a treat to hear it in a stripped-down arrangement, possibly the way she first wrote it?  

And another quiet tune here, this is 南西肯恩 Neci Ken recorded by Soul Live Box 台灣原創現場.  Lovely vocals from this duo of 鄭雅薇 Neci Wei-voc & 陳弘育 Ken Chen-voc/gtr.)

Soul Live Box 台灣原創現場 just featured their 3rd Soul Taiwan artist, ball (Chuang Chuan-Ying 莊鵑瑛 - 小球)

Small Ball is not so much soul as she is folk pop, but anyway, it’s nice to see her again and this is a sweet ballad.  That is Become Huang 黃成緯 from her full band on guitar.  (By the way, there is a much longer Soul Taiwan clip where you get to know more about Ball, and it includes a band meeting at a cafe.)

After a short pause, it looks like Soul Live Box 台灣原創現場 is starting a new  series called Soul Taiwan.  First artist to be featured is 孫盛希 (Shi Shi)  =D

The first half of the clip is getting to know her, then the band gets ready for the session, the song begins around 4:00 in.  During an interlude, there’s a bit more talking and following Shi Shi around Taipei, then they finish the song.  The backing band is listed at the end of the video.  (If anyone wants to jot that down for me, I’ll add it to the post)

UPDATE:  I wanted to let you know that if you wanted to hear the song played without interruption, Soul Live Box has also posted just the song performance.

We’ve featured Shi Shi once before, about a year ago.

Singer-Songwriter-Producer 孫盛希 (Shi Shi) is the newest featured artist on  Soul Live Box 台灣原創現場’s Soul Taiwan Session.  Love the groove in this tune, (from her 2018 album, 女・人 Woman) and I kinda wish it was in English so I could sing along with the chorus, LOL.  =D

Actually, now that I think of it, they have already featured her on Soul Taiwan #1 about a month ago, and we posted it at that time.

I don’t think we’ve ever featured these guys before, but they came up big at the recent 29th Golden Melody Awards (Best Album in Taiwanese & Best New Artist), so I think it’s time to hear them! EggPlantEgg 茄子蛋    =D

They’ve had some member changes over the past several years, but I think this is the current lineup:

黃奇斌 (阿斌)-Voc/Keys, 蔡鎧任 (阿任)-gtr, 謝耀德 (阿德)-gtr, 季炳雄-drums.  They don’t seem to have an official bass player anymore, maybe just some different supporting musicians to join them for gigs? Yuan-Peng Du is one of the ex-members.

Let’s check out another new artist; this is ‘rock singer-songwriter’ 陳央 YM  =D

She graduated from Berklee last fall, and this is a song from her 2018 ep She’s Blue Again. (KKBOX)  She came back to TW ready to rock - this riff is reminiscent of the opening riff of the first Black Sabbath album!  

She’s playing both solo acoustic gigs and full band gigs with TingYu Lin (Tim Lin)-gtr (Not Another Band, 3秒樂團), Marcus Tsao-bass (he plays with a lot of bands), Kuan You Chi (KC)-drums (薩瑪樂團 ZAMAR)

I dunno if this is a new song or what– It’s not listed with the recent 3-song ep, (After the Rain Stops) and I don’t see it on their 2015 album. -- Okay, I see it on a 2015 demo collection over at their StreetVoice, but with a slightly different title.

Singer-songwriter 少女 Sony backed by TryAngle trio (林均憲 Sham Lin-keys, I-Hsin Chen 小D-drums, Bobo Lin-bass). This is very soulful and soothing!  =D

We’ve posted this combination of talent before, but not this song, to my recollection. The MV has been out since late January, but the song is getting a sudden surge in popularity over at StreetVoice, currently #4 on their 即時熱門 chart.
