A week later and I'm finally getting round to the rest of these!

Have some hurt/comfort set during DBIP after Julian's told his parents he's going to resign.

(cw: self-harm, suicidal ideation - nothing graphic, but I'll put it under the cut.)

Shakily, he pressed his other hand to his combadge, and before his courage could desert him, quickly murmured, “Bashir to O’Brien”.

The reply was unexpectedly instant. “Miles here – what do you need?”

“Miles,” Julian choked out, hesitating over what to say. “Miles, I—I’ve hurt my hand.”

He could practically hear Miles’ frown. “Do you need me to call the infirmary?” Miles asked.

“No,” replied Julian. “No… I mean, I, uh—oh, fuck. Miles, I don’t want to be good to myself right now.”

“Oh,” said Miles, his voice suddenly low. “You don’t mean… You mean like I was, after Agra—”

“Yes,” whispered Julian. “Miles, I’m—I’m scared, I’m sorry, I—”

“Wait right there,” Miles ordered. “I’m coming right now, Julian, just—just wait, okay? Can you do that?”

“Yeah,” said Julian weakly. “Yeah, okay.”

“I’m coming,” Miles repeated, and the comm line shut off. Julian stayed frozen in place, standing next to his newly-dented wall, shivering. A few moments later, and the familiar light of a transporter beam appeared in his periphery, startling him; with hindsight, he should have realised that Miles might use the emergency transporter, but it hadn’t even occurred to him.

“What do you need?” asked Miles, his eyes glancing from Julian to the wall, then back to Julian. “What can I do?”

Julian looked at his friend wordlessly, trying and failing to find the right place to start. Every horrible, pent-up feeling was still there, but the weight on his chest was beginning to decrease as those feelings began to bubble up past his throat and turn into tears. The mere fact of Miles’ presence – steady, dependable Miles: his friend – had brought a feeling of safety back to the room, which hadn’t been present since… Well, since his parents had arrived on the station, he guessed. And Julian really wasn’t sure what to do with this new feeling.

“Let’s look at that hand, shall we?” asked Miles, ever practical, and Julian allowed himself to be guided to the sofa, shutting his eyes against the tears that were falling steadily now, the whirlwind of violent emotions twisting itself into something more fragile, worn out.

“Julian, I need you to tell me what to do with it though. I’m no medic, but it’s not looking pretty.”

It didn’t matter. The pain didn’t matter anymore, it could be fixed later. Miles was here, and he was good, and Julian could worry about everything else tomorrow.

I want to sit next to him, wrap a soft blanket around his shoulders, and gently pet his scalp and play with his hair. Maybe put a few braids in it and show it to him in a mirror. "Do you like the braids? Do you want to keep them in? I'll take them out if not. I genuinely want to know. I won't be offended, I promise. We can try some other styles, too, and you can tell me how you like them."

He flinches a lot when you get close to him. He's naturally very tense whenever anyone gets too close to him -- and seems more confused by the blanket than anything else. He does not resist it, though.

He tenses even worse when your hand moves to his hair, but it does not last long. As soon as he realizes you're not going to yank at it, he melts into the touch.

He's a bit confused by the question you've given him and suspects you're just using him as a sounding board before you clarify. He has no say over his appearance, generally. In the moment, he's a lot more concerned with how it feels. And it feels...really, really nice.

He doesn't care how you style his hair, he just wants you to keep playing with it <3

He's very comfortable wrapped up in the blanket now and trusts that you're not going to hurt him. He feels safe enough to let you do this all night.

It was seldom that Ashrah ever wore anything as extravagant as this. Then again, it was seldom she ever attended events as formal as this. She was hyperaware of herself during this ball hosted by Mileena for the politicians and courtiers. Ashrah had been invited as Syzoth's personal guest. Even in her most festive white and gold robes, with her hair done in braids with gold ornaments to match, it was not hard to feel out of place. She was lucky to have Syzoth to stay close to. He seemed about as disinterested in the event as she was.

Getting to observe the nobility in person now, it was interesting just how many of Ashrah's preconcieved notions about them wrong. The etiquette of high society eluded Ashrah, and yet she was sure she's seen Netherrealm demons with more poise and dignity than some of these people. She was surprised at how many of them seemed unable to hold their alcohol. Either that, or they lacked the willpower to stop drinking before becoming fully inebriated.

She wasn't sure how she had ended up in this spot. One moment, she was conversing with Syzoth and another fellow guest. The next, another drunken guest was at her feet. His wine had long since flown out of his now broken glass and soaked itself into her hair and clothes. Her makeup now ran down her face, leaving only Ashrah's natural flush of embarassment in its place as the people surrounding them looked on. Syzoth had run off and returned just as quickly with linens in hand. As the drunken guest stood up and offered his intoxicated apology, Ashrah murmured stiff reassurances as Syzoth pulled her away toward a wall.

He stood between her and the rest of the ball as he handed her the linens to clean herself off. She blotted at her face, no doubt further ruining her makeup, then sighed as she tried to absorb the wine in her robes.

"This will never come out..." Ashrah mumbled with a frown.

Syzoth looked down at her with a sympathetic look. A brief pause passed between them. "Why don't we leave and go to my quarters to get you cleaned up?" he offered.

Ashrah looked up at him with a confused frown. "Even if I clean up, I am still stuck with a dress drenched in wine."

For another moment, Syzoth looked to the side before looking back at her with cautious eyes. "I...don't mind loaning you something of mine to wear," he said, his voice unsure. "They might be big on you...but at least they would be clean."

She raised her eyebrows in surprise and thought for a moment before bashfully nodding. With her permission, he led her away from the ball and up the stairs of the palace toward his apartments. Ever the gracious host, the first thing Syzoth did upon arriving was draw Ashrah a bath. As the water warmed, he set out whatever soaps he had, along with a clean sponge and towels, one of his tunics, a pair of soft trousers, and a sash to keep the trousers up.

He left her to her own devices after letting her know she could take all the time she needed. It was nice, getting to soak in the warm water now. The judgemental glares of the other ball guests felt like nothing more than a distant dream. She took great care, cleaning off the dried, sticky wine in her hair and skin. For reasons she couldn't explain, it excited her that the more she lathered, the greater the feeling was that she was surrounded by Syzoth's scent. It was a simple scent, one that brought to mind a forest after the rain.

As expected, his clothes ran too big for her. She still couldn't help but admire the way they looked on her in the mirror. Her heart thrummed at the thought of wearing Syzoth's scent and being embraced by his warm, soft clothes. After stealing one final glance at herself, she draped the towel across her shoulders, under her wet hair, and made her way back out into Syzoth's room. He was sitting at a desk, idly looking over documents as he waited for her.

"I'm sorry you left the ball on my account," she said, drawing his attention. He looked up from his documents, then raised his eyebrows. She watched as his eyes passed over her form and as a faint emerald kissed his cheeks. She pressed her lips together and looked to the side. "But thank you for your hospitality. And the clean clothes."

Syzoth shook his head, his eyes then wandering to the side as he averted his gaze. "Not at all," he said with a shy smile. "I'm...pleased that they could help you."

For states who have dying or extinct native languages -depending on their population and endangerment level- are headcanoned as no longer able to speak them or not as fluent in them. Because the states are meants to be reflection of theyre population. Let me know if i handled this poorly of if something sounds off and you want me to clarify!

So like you said, we have the states that badically everyone agrees speak spanish (FL, NM, AZ, CA, TX)

They all use mexican spanish, but they all know spain spanish (there is a difference)

And then loui with french (creole french)

Then the more unexpected spanish speakers - UT and NV.

I think the states with the highest Native populations speak/understand them. Like Hawai'i speaks Hawai'ian, japanese, and English

And Alaska speaks, Eskaleut and Tsimshianic languages along with several other indigenous languages, before moving on to Russian and English

Texas (if you headcanon system texas) has a translator living in his head at all times because houstonians speak a shit ton of languages (and while ist not the city that speaks the most, i bet houston is the only one willing to translate bcs Los Angeles and NYC are yk. Them.) so he knows all the gossip, he's just above spreading it.

Illinois speaks french (like french-french) and used to speak Irenwe As did missouri, indiana, and ohio. Illinois also speaks polish.

I also think NY and most of the NE speak dutch but NY canonically speaks italian.

AZ and NM also speak Navajo.

Most of the midwest speaks german, with the exeptions of the states with the highest indigenous population as they speak both the indigenous language and the settler languages.

for trip hc’s i love the idea that Virgil is very attentive to the safety procedures. he reads and memorizes the information on the back of the hotel room door that tells fire safety information. he also is constantly saying that c!Thomas did not put on enough sunscreen. i just really adore the idea that he becomes extremely focused on every detail during trips, except for when he sees something really beautiful or interesting and is able to relax.
