Using the Clubs for Immersive Gameplay

Of all the systems that Sims 4 has, the club feature is probably one of my favourites (Restaurants are a close second, but they're not why we're here today!) Clubs are one of the easiest ways to increase your immersion when you play and make the random townies that show up on community lots just a tiny bit less random.

The Basics

Often, people are mostly concerned with the groups their active sims are in. You might already have a club to keep track of your sims' closest friends, study group, or baby daddies, we don't judge here.

Clubs are also a great way to automate what you want your sim to be doing with less micromanaging, but for immersion, we're actually more interested in clubs for the sims you don't (or rarely) play.

WTF are the neighbours doing?

Most of the pre-made clubs are kinda meh. I prefer to add my own so I can make my community lots just a bit more lively and make sure people's activities make just a tiny bit of sense because the autonomy in this game is not great. These are just for inspiration based on clubs I often add to my own game:

A group of teens who meet at the retail clothing store to try on clothes and gossip about Nancy's nose job or whatever.

A local bowling league (complete with uniforms) who meet and bowl - just don't fuck with The Jesus.

An HOA of Karens who meet at the park to clean, raise property values, and be mean to people.

Geeks and gamers who meet at the local arcade to awkwardly flirt over pizza.

Comedians who meet at the local comedy club - you can even use the club doors to make a VIP backroom only for the performers.

Sports teams - such as a basket team who meets at a local basket court, or a swim team who meets at the local pool (you can even give them tiny matching speedos!)

Scouts! The scout feature is cute but it's a rabbit hole, boo! But you can make a Scouts club, complete with uniforms, and have them show up in parks where they can do various activities and work on their badges. Add a teen or two to supervise the younglings, their parents will be so proud, aww.

A sorority or fraternity in university who meet up at the local bar in matching varsity jackets to make all the other students feel inferior.

A group of old ladies who meet at the park to knit or cross-stitch and brag about the accomplishments of their descendants.

A "business" club, usually CEOs, lawyers and such, who meet in fancy bars to hold important business meetings and probably commit white-collar crimes, so predictable.

If you have a sim with an office/work from home job and you'd like to pretend they actually go to work, you can make an office building and a group of "coworkers" who'll show up to drink coffee, chat, and work on computers next to them in the office. It'll even simulate rotating desk assignments for an instant capitalist hellscape!

The possibilities are endless, and I find the club feature really useful to add little interesting scenarios to the background of my gameplay.

Well thank you, you absolute beautiful people on Tumblr – I feel like I should gift you something in return. And until I learn how to recolor sweaters (it is after all my dream to make special sweaters for all the fraternities and sororities in the game), you can have some born-in-game sims. Christ, how did someone as friendly as Brandi ever give birth to these chodes?

Twin girls of Brandi and Darren Broke-Dreamer (Brandi’s second set of twins GOOD LORD), conceived when that pair said not one word to one another upon meeting and proceeded to plow. Here they are, old enough to be truly horrified by that story. Named after surrealist painters because of their artsy parents, they’re the youngest of SEVEN GODDANG CHILDREN (related to Dirk Dreamer and all four Broke kids). Man I love these two.

Remind you of a certain two sisters? Yep, I’m pretty excited at how much these cousin BFFs look like their mothers. Matilda is the laid-back and fun-loving daughter of Mortimer Goth and Dina Caliente, and Joséfina Caliente is the jaw-droppingly confident and energetic result of an ill-advised afternoon of passion between Nina Caliente and Don Lothario. When you’re drowning in Fitness and Nature sims it’s so nice to get a Gamer. They’re super rare in the uberhood! I could imagine Matilda growing up on chess, stealing all of Alex’s video games, then maybe one day interning at Lucy Burb’s game development company (Luce rolled the LTW to reach the top of the Gamer career in my game) and likely becoming a vlogger in the field. She’s definitely a Pleasure sim, the spitting image of her mother Dina... and takes after her in the ‘well, black goes with everything?’ fashion stakes.

Like Remy, Matty’s skintone is between S2 and S3. I’ve packaged her as S3 like her mother, so add the skintone you feel suits her best – also, you’ll see that she appears in your CAS in Mama’s basegame dress, for funsies.

I sarted my Sims journey with Sims 4. And I've always been curious about Sims 3 because it has a lot of expansions. Is Grant's letter your first time in Sims 3? Or have you played before? Do you recomment it?

Hiya nonny! (Just a head’s up, I ended up with a longer answer than expected, so I hid the rest under a cut!) Grant’s letter from Isla Paradiso isn’t the first time I played ts3. It’s been about 3 years since I’ve played previously, though. I love ts3! In fact, when ts4 first came out, I bought it and played it for maaaybe a week before I jumped back to ts3. It wasn’t until sometime after Outdoor Retreat... maybe Get to Work came out that I even bothered trying ts4 again, and even then I was switching between the games, because like you said, more expansions. 

But that’s kinda a problem with ts3. Too many expansions. The more you have, the more lag you can expect. In fact, there’s a ts3 preload screen that gives you the option to check/uncheck your expansions before you load up your game. And if you check too many, the preloader warns you about the lag! Loading/lag is an obvious issue, because unlike ts4, neighborhoods don’t exist. You don’t just load up your hood within the world and then “travel” to another, the entire world is loaded up and you can take your bicycle/car/taxi and travel anywhere you want without a loading screen. So worlds that are more complicated - like Isla Paradiso - might experience even more lag than other worlds. Especially with Seasons. And you might end up having to find a lot more patience and remember to save more often.Customizing your sim’s body/face are annoying in ts3, there’s just not enough sliders. But you can customize colors for hair/eyes/makeup... there’s even a color wheel for it. Same for clothes and furniture, only those can also change patterns as well. Like those jeans but wish they came in yellow? colorwheel them jeans. Or how about some lovely leopard print jeans instead? Maybe you want that leopard print to be pink and white, that’s all up to you. (I seem to recall a younger me utilizing pink/white cow print a lot)The expansions are fabulous, though. I adore World Adventures, which gave you 3 vacation worlds to visit - a town in China, France, and Egypt - and featured a bunch of intricate tombs to explore. University Life gave you a world to visit when your sim was ready for college, and I remember going OFTEN with all my sims. They would end up with so many degrees because I loved it so. Sometimes they’d live off campus, or in a sorority, or they’d hijack one of the dorm rooms and pimp it out, etc. Oh and Into the Future! That was my most favorite pack ever. It gave you a new world to explore and unlike the vacation worlds or college, you didn’t have a time limit. You could theoretically travel there and stay forever. And the things you did in the normal world would affect the timeline in future world. You could go there early in your sims life and find out your one descendant is living in a run down, crappy house, and then go back after your sim has become successful to find your descendants have now multiplied and live in a mansion complete with food replicators and holographic tvs! Ahem... I’ve... written waaay too much here. TLDR: ts3 is awesome in its own way. There’s a lot of pros and cons for it, so I guess my advice is to check out the expansions it has to offer. If it interests you, I recommend you take the plunge and go for it! But make sure your computer can handle it.
