Sørine & Carina, Cosplay in Love | Copenhagen, Denmark

Sørine And Carina met in High School. One the slacker, the other the teacher’s pet.  They didn’t realize they had much in common until they ran into each other years later in a comic book shop.  The two quickly connected over Manga and comics, and became fast friends. They were soon sharing a real passion for cosplaying (Costume and roleplaying: the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime).

Cosplay.  Work.  Travel.  Fun.  And then we fell in love...

Their cosplay and love connection created magic the world was waiting for and soon they found themselves competing.  The duo were invited to the Tokyo International Film Festival, and placed fourth in The World Cosplay summit.

The Proposal

Disneyland, Tokyo 2014...  Before their departure, Carina packed two sets of Harry Potter themed engagement rings in her luggage.  In front of Cinderella's Castle, Carina asked a Disneyland employee to take a video of the two, which seemed like a usual request for the cosplay duo.  To Sørine's surprise and joy, this was no ordinary video.  As Carina asked, Sørine's "Yes!" brought tears to the eyes of Disney onlookers everywhere.  Their two year engagement gave them plenty of planning time!  

Planning

From start to finish the couple planned each intricate detail with their playful personalities ringing true.  Guest invitations were designed as "Acceptance Letters" from Hogwarts.  The couple's getaway car was a Ford Anglia (similar to the flying car in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) "We know... we are huge nerds," the couple exclaims when describing the details.  They turned to a treasured cosplay friend and supporter at Shinji Costumes and Tailoring who designed and crafted their beautiful wedding dresses.  Every detail was true to their passions, their love for one other and their lives together.

"After having been showered in rice we were picked up in a blue Ford Anglia (yes, like the the Harry Potter car) to the Botanical Gardens just five minutes from the church for the official wedding photos.”

There were over 30 cosplayers at Grand Prix Las Vegas. Some of them represented the Magic Art Show, some of them came for the 2nd Annual Planeswalker Summit, some of them were Channel Fireball features, and some of them were just-for-the-hell-of-it independents–but all of them were there to share their love of Magic and have a good time.

Romics, XXI edizione dal 6 al 9 Aprile

Articolo a cura di Benedetta Lattanzi – Foto di Pietro Cerquatti Ritorna il Romics nella sua veste primaverile dal 6 al 9 Aprile 2017, anche quest’anno con molti ospiti, eventi speciali e novità.

Location è sempre quella della ormai consolidata Fiera di Roma, lo spazio capitolino adibito alle fiere e alle esposizioni, che viene visitato annualmente da migliaia di visitatori ma tuttavia non gode ancora di un adeguato collegamento. È infatti questa critica che apre la conferenza di presentazione della rassegna romana: Pietro Piccinetti, amministratore unico di Fiera di Roma, decide di dare un forte segnale alla Regione Lazio sottolineando quanto sia proibitivo il fatto che il treno Leonardo Express, che collega il centro città all’aeroporto di Fiumicino, non faccia fermate in corrispondenza del polo fieristico il quale si trova a uno stop di distanza dal capolinea. Polemica giusta, se si pensa che il pubblico del Romics è maggiormente adolescente e non dispone di un proprio mezzo di locomozione, inoltre non pochi sono i disagi causati dalla moltitudine di autovetture che si accalcano all’uscita della struttura soprattutto durante i weekend della manifestazione. Proprio per questo motivo, quest’anno la Fiera di Roma ha deciso di mettere a disposizione degli utenti disabili un servizio navetta completamente gratuito, per garantire a tutti la partecipazione alla rassegna.

Questi quattro giorni di kermesse avranno come ospite speciale, dopo il colpaccio di Go Nagai, Yoshiyuki Tomino, padre di Gundam. Oltre a lui, Romics D’Oro 2017, saranno presenti per essere premiati Sharon Calahan, direttore della fotografia della Disney Pixar; Giuseppe Camuncoli, disegnatore per DC e Marvel; Matteo Casali, sceneggiatore anche lui per DC e Marvel oltre che per i più importanti editori italiani; e infine Igort, fondatore della rivista Valvoline. Altro grande ospite sarà Leo Ortolani, orgoglio del fumetto italiano, che svelerà proprio durante il Romics il suo prossimo progetto Top secret dopo l’attesissimo finale di Rat-Man previsto a settembre.

Anche quest’anno è confermata la presenza della Regione Lazio a Romics, attraverso Comics Meeting&Lab dove si terranno workshop, conferenze e meet&greet, mentre sarà inaugurata in questa edizione la collaborazione tra Romics e “IoScrittore”, torneo letterario del Gruppo Editoriale Mauri Spagnol, giunto alla settima edizione. Romics lancerà un contest per gli illustratori, “L’Avventura di Scrivere”, che si concluderà nell’edizione di ottobre con la selezione di tre illustratori che collaboreranno con il gruppo GEMS per valorizzare graficamente i libri vincitori del Concorso Nazionale “Io Scrittore”.

Nei padiglioni 9 e 5, con uno spazio ancora più di rilievo, saranno ospitate ben sette mostre: Rambaldi e le sue creazioni; La grande celebrazione dei Robot della serie Gundam; l’omaggio ai 75 anni di Wonder Woman; le opere dei Romics D’Oro Camuncoli e Casali; le illustrazioni di Sharon Callahan per i film della Pixar; i libri protagonisti del Concorso dei Libri a Fumetti; esposizione delle opere premiate nel Concorso Nazionale “I linguaggi dell’immaginario per la scuola”.

Sul palco del Romics Movie Village avranno luogo incontri tematici con speaker e talent del mondo del cinema che discuteranno su vari temi come i 75 anni di Wonder Woman; le serie web (The Pills, Romolo+July); un omaggio a Carlo Rambaldi e i 30 anni di Dylan Dog. Nell’isola tematica Warner Bros. Entertainment Italia sarà presente un’area dedicata a “Animali fantastici e dove trovarli”.

Novità delle ultime edizioni, il Palagame al padiglione 6 ospiterà le fasi finali del campionato italiano di League of Legends e la tappa romana di Samsung Fight for Glory, torneo live a squadre dedicato al gioco Overwatch. Ci sarà inoltre l’opportunità per 120 fortunati di provare in anteprima assoluta il videogioco in realtà aumentata più atteso dell’anno: Father.io, di cui sarà presente anche il creatore Francesco Ferrazzino. Non mancheranno gli YouTuber: Gli Illuminati Crew, IlVostroCaroDexter, Mikeshowsha, I Pantellas, Makerstudio e i talent targati Divimove sono i nomi annunciati dalla rassegna romana.

Ospiti speciali anche sul versante cosplay con Giada Robin, la cosplayer italiana più conosciuta a livello mondiale, e le danesi Sorine e Carina, qualificatesi per il World Cosplay Summit 2015.

Ultimi ma non in ordine di importanza, i premi del Gran Galà del Doppiaggio, giunto alla XIV edizione. I vincitori sono stati già decretati, ma rimarranno segreti fino a sabato 8 Aprile 2017 quando verranno svelati durante la manifestazione. Sono invece già noti i riconoscimenti a Rossella Acerbo con il Premio Ferruccio Amendola; Emanuele Ruzza con il Premio Andrea Quartana; Sabina Montanarella con il Premio Miglior Assistente e Sandro Galluzzo con il Premio Miglior Fonico. Omaggiati anche Ada Maria Serra Zanetti e Giorgio Lopez con i premi alla carriera.

Anche questa edizione sembra promettere bene, eventi non ne mancano e pure le novità sembrano abbondare. Non resta quindi che aspettare giovedì 6 Aprile per vedere con i propri occhi quello che il Romics ha da offrirci per questa XXI edizione.

The Elder Dragon Cold War

Among the oldest beings in the Multiverse are the elder dragons. A race of dragons with vast magical powers and supreme intelligence to go along with it, they existed before recorded history on Dominaria, and across the multiverse (also known as Dominia). But dragons aren’t the sharing type, and something happened to make the elder dragons turn on their peers. Thus we enter, the Elder Dragon War.

Most of what we know (officially) about the Elder Dragon War is what’s included in Nicol Bolas’ Profile: 

Witness to countless wars, cataclysms, and rivalries, Bolas is one of only five elder dragons to survive the Dragon War.

Those five elders saw print waaay back in Legends. Those five survivors we not necessarily friends, however (although they refer to each other as siblings or cousins). Palladia-Mors became jealous of Chromium’s friendship with a young human girl, and went on a rampage that forced Chromium to put her to sleep for 80 years. She was awoken, in part, by the machinations of Vaevictis Asmadi (who had been transformed into a dragon whelp). But she and Vaevictis came to blows and she slew her cousin. Chromium was forced to kill his sister to protect the people of Mors Ridge, but he was later killed trying to avenge the death of Arcades Sabboth (who we never even see on-screen). That left Bolas as the sole elder Dragon.

But… was that really the end of it?

What was the Elder Dragon War?

Alternatively called the Dragon War or the Great War of the Dragons, there’s actually almost nothing officially published about it. The line I quoted above, in Bolas’ profile? That’s the only official word we have on it. Unpublished materials exist in the wild, but what’s been pieced together may not be all that reliable, especially twenty years and several creative teams later.

One such piece of lore is on the elder wurms. Vorthos extraordinaire @thesquirle posted on Twitter a while back that he’d found the origin of the idea that the elder wurms were the losers of the Elder Dragon War, in a reference to a rejected flavor text from the Card of the Day - April, 2003:

“Once there were multitudes of Elder Dragons in Dominia. After the Great War of the dragons, many were beaten to the ground, stripped of their title, never to fly again.”

This version of events, however, seems to have been confirmed by Alison Luhrs in the Magic Story Podcast: Dragons, when she talks about the background for Magic’s wurms:

They were the real losers of the Elder Dragon Wars. So wurms used to have limbs and wings, but when they didn’t do so hot in the wars, their limbs and wings were torn off. So all wurms, many, many, many generations removed, are from those elder wurms who fought in the Elder Dragon Wars back in the day.

Not much else is known about the war, other than the five elders from Legends were the only survivors. Doug Beyer seems to indicate that the Elder Dragon War might have been exclusive to Dominaria, but it’s not clear if it was a phrasing issue or deliberate. 

Conflicts Known and Unknown

That leads me to the possibility that maybe the Elder Dragon War isn’t as settled as we think. The complicated history of just the five known survivors could mean there are corner cases out there, old conflicts just waiting to reignite.

Doug Beyer’s response to a question about Bolas and Niv-Mizzet had a nugget that’s probably important:

My sense is that Nicol Bolas does keep an eye on, and is likely not overly fond of, other powerful and intelligent dragons.

He also comments on the use of the Elder creature type in conjunction with the Tarkir broodlords. While we may not see true elders outside of Nicol Bolas again, there are dragons old enough and powerful enough that Bolas might consider a threat in the same vein.

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon

The obvious one is, of course, Ugin. Referring back to Doug’s comments on Ugin, it’s important to note that as of Fate Reforged:

We haven’t talked internally about whether Ugin was involved in that particular war that killed lots and lots of dragons on Dominaria long ago, so I would hesitate to either confirm it or rule it out here.

So at the very least the whole elder thing hadn’t been decided yet during Khans of Tarkir block. But he is old and powerful.

Ugin is ancient. We already know that Ugin was around at least 6000 years ago to trap the Eldrazi, and was already a “spirit dragon” by then, which to me means he had already transcended color in his magic. So he’s many millennia old.

It seems that he’s older and more powerful than Sorin, at least, when the Eldrazi were sealed (I can’t see Sorin deferring to someone younger and weaker). It’s worth mentioning, however, that because Ugin’s broodlords become elders after 1,200 years, it might indicate that they’re all, in fact, lesser elder dragons. Which is a whole can of wurms in and of itself. But why would 1,000 year old rando dragons be elders because they’re ‘old’, and yet two printings of the 10,000+ year old Niv-Mizzet aren’t?

Ugin is from Tarkir. We have consistently thought of Ugin’s homeworld as being Tarkir, so he would have had to planeswalk to be involved in a war on Dominaria. That’s a wrinkle, but doesn’t make it impossible to my mind.

This is that interesting line I mentioned earlier, where Doug implies the Elder Dragon War took place on Dominaria. If Ugin was an elder dragon, some aspects of his story makes sense. His morphology mimics Bolas’, as do his card abilities, but it’s possible that’s simply because he’s designed as the anti-Bolas.

Ugin had a rivalry with Bolas. Certainly we think of Bolas and Ugin’s rivalry as going back quite a while — Bolas is just not a big fan of sharing the Multiverse with other ancient, powerful, planeswalking dragons, see, which seems very “him.” Anyway, that rivalry must have gone a bit farther back than 1280 years ago. It might have gone much farther back, but it also could have been a separate, much more recent conflict.

But I also want to take a moment to examine Ugin as a spirit dragon. We see from O-Kagachi and others that being a spirit dragon is nothing to scoff, at either. Even if Ugin isn’t an ‘elder’ in the same sense that Bolas is, he’s powerful.

Bolas would not have come after Ugin, on Ugin’s home turf, unless he though Ugin was a serious threat. And he didn’t show up and chew the scenery, either. He went straight in for the kill, and might have lost if he hadn’t already co-opted Yasova to his side. From Sorin’s Restoration:

“He thought me his rival for power, and attacked me. Used my own dragons against me. But someone intervened on my behalf.”

But why did he think Ugin his rival? Well, we just don’t know yet, but I suspect we’ll find out more on Ixalan. There must be a reason Bolas waited 5,000 years from the only event we know Ugin participated in - the sealing of the Eldrazi - to show up and gank him.

I���ve mentioned before that Ugin’s feathery wings only showed up in Tarkir, around the time they would have known they’re heading to a Mesoamerican block. It seems to me Ugin might be the Quetzcoatl analogue on Ixalan, And given the portrait in the Rival of Ixalan Key Art (below), It seems there was an epic conflict between beings there as well.

Further, the new Dragonskull Summit has some pretty interesting flavor text:

When the Planeswalker Angrath called dinosaurs “dragons,” the name stuck in certain pirate circles.

Given the dragon banner and the huge, glaring hint from Dragonskull Summit, I’m convinced dragons have larger role to play on Ixalan. My deepest hope is that we won’t just being seeing Ugin on Ixalan, we’ll be seeing another force on the plane. Maybe even a new ancient dragon (although I’m hesitant to use ‘elder’. After all, the banner doesn’t look like Ugin, and wouldn’t the Empire of the Sun be carrying banners that looks like Gishath, Sun’s Avatar? Even if it isn’t related to Ugin, it might be another ancient dragon entity.

Might the long-simmering conflict between ancient dragons be heating up again?

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind

One last, quick note. Niv-Mizzet got mentioned here a couple times, and I should be clear that I don’t think Niv is an Elder Dragon. Given that he’s the Izzet Parun, an original signatory of the Guildpact, this ancient Guild Lord would have to be over 10,000 years old. That - potentially - makes him older than Ugin. Old enough to remember a time when there was more than one Elder Dragon. And he’s up to something.

I’ll have another piece talking about Ral Zarek, but for now I should note that I think Niv-Mizzet is aware of far more than he lets on. He would likely already know of the existence of planeswalkers, and for him Project Lightning Bug might have meant a defense against some like Nicol Bolas showing up. Niv himself jealously guards his supremacy as the only intelligent dragon on the plane, snuffing out rivals to avoid a great dragon war of Ravnica’s own.

With Nicol Bolas having co-opted one of his chief guildmages in Ral Zarek, it’s unclear where Bolas’ story will go. But I wouldn’t count the Firemind out.

Life is Like a Boat [Portgas D. Ace] Chapter One [We Met on the Streets Like Trash]

This work is strictly before the Summit War arc in the series. It follows the manga 12 years before then, when the trio are kids. The fic is again strictly original character x Ace; no poly ASL. Please pay attention to the warning tags. This work has adult themes (the characters may start young, but they will age) and spoilers to the series. Please enjoy.

Sorin Elva made a grave mistake; she tried to steal from pirates. She was caught, of course, but even for a 9 year old, the consequences were just as dire. They were going to kill her. She’d die alone and no one would care.

Her small body hurt very bad. Elva cried out in pain every time the Lieutenant would kick her. The ribs in her chest felt cracked; her breathing was becoming shallow and her eyelids were heavy with sleep. However, her thoughts were on the books laid out on the ground an arm’s length away from her.

They were important to her. The books would guarantee her survival in the world, but none of that mattered now. Porchemy was going to kill her, crush her bones into dust before she ever got the chance to become a doctor. Still, Elva tried to reach for them, straining to wrap her fingers around the spine of the volume 1 encyclopedia.

Porchemy saw what she was trying to do and kicked the book further from her reach. He loved the sound she made; so sad and very frightened. The young girl was scared of him. She should be, he thought to himself. Elva may have been important to his captain, but that gave her no reason to run around and do as she liked. He kicked her again, just because he wanted to.

“Boss, no offense, but the Captain will shoot us if we kill her.” He made no attempt to grab the man, but he wanted to. Porchemy was making a grave mistake by hurting the little medic. She was important to them, but not only because of her choice in career; Elva was unique.

The large man turned and glared at the Carrier. It was his fault they were in this situation. He lost the money his captain was supposed to pay off to the nobles, then allowed the girl to steal from them. If anyone should be shot, it should be him. Porchemy honestly thought about offering his head to their captain, but they needed him. He could recognize the one who stole from them.

His attention went back to the little girl. She was still on the ground, curled up in pain. It made him sick. “Get the hell up, brat. You’re going to return the Captain’s tribute back to him once we get back our money. It will be up to him what to do with you.”

Elva glared at him; her blue eyes were dark like the sea during a storm. “T–They’re only books. He wouldn’t want them, so piss off.”

Porchemy disregarded her and reached down to pick her up. Her knees collapsed beneath her, but he didn’t let her fall over. His fingers tightened around the hood of her torn shirt, lifting her off her feet. Such a little thing. Porchemy laughed as he dangled her above the ground. She didn’t even put up a struggle. “What’s wrong, brat? Not wanting to fight me? You sounded so ready to throw down a minute ago.”

Elva ignored his questions; he knew the answers. Her eyes burned with tears, but she tried not to let Porchemy see them. He’d only laugh and hit her again, as if her pain was amusing to him. Pathetic. I’m so weak. She dropped her head and stared at the books on the ground. All she wanted was to read the next one; her captain was missing the 2nd volume, but it didn’t matter to Elva. Someday she’d have them all, then again, it was only wishful thinking. She’d never be allowed to leave their crew.

Porchemy shook her little body like a doll, making her head spin. He laughed as her face screwed up in agony. But then, a high pitched scream caught his attention; it sounded like a cry for help. Looking at Elva, he noticed that she heard it too. Her ears twitched, searching for the source of the sound.

“Hey, I heard voices from here; children’s voices.” A stocky pirate with a wood staff came scurrying out from the undergrowth, shoving his finger in the direction of the noise. His superior glared at him and hissed at him to shut up. Porchemy shook Elva again, ordering her to verify what she heard.

“It was someone my age; younger maybe.” Elva listened again. She heard a plethora of voices; each of them male. They were close, but even though they were whispering, she could hear them clear as a bell. “Over there; through the foliage.” She pointed a finger in the right direction and ordered them to follow the path.

The spiteful lieutenant tossed her like a rag doll at the member with the hooded T shirt, who caught her with a grunt. He swung Elva over his shoulder and followed the crew through the bushy forest. She watched sadly as her books were left on the ground; lost to her forever.

Porchemy lead the crew through the forest; a path had opened up. The canopy blocked out most of the sun, but streaks of light that poured through the gaps helped to brighten the area. It smelled of dusty soil and pine resin; a scent that Elva found to be relaxing. She nearly forgot about the others until Porchemy began to speak.

“Those children Ace and Sabo you’re telling me about are famous around here. You’re sure it’s Ace that took your money, right?” Elva twitched her ears; she’d heard of them before. They stole from traders and shady pirates around the Terminal. She had never met them or seen them before personally, but they’d made a name for themselves amongst the people of the junkyard. Elva listened as Porchemy and the Carrier talked about them; nothing was mentioned that she didn’t already know.

Porchemy stopped at the base of a huge tree and glanced around. He found nothing of interest. “Put down the brat.”

The hooded pirate plucked Elva from his shoulder and placed her bare feet on the dry earth. She was ordered to listen and faced the quiet forest, placing her hands on either side of her ears. She could hear nothing at first, then the faint sound of tense undertones filled the air. They were indeed the same young males as before, talking about Porchemy. She heard them mention her and when she looked in their direction, the bushes where they hid rustled loudly. A gentle smile spread across her face, but just as quickly it fell. Elva felt bad for them; they reminded her of the others in the Terminal. All they wanted to do was survive. What right did she have to decide their fate?

“I don’t hear anything.” Elva glanced at Porchemy and tilted her head. “Sorry, but no one is around. All I hear are 3 chatty squirrels in the underbrush.”

The huge pirate gritted his teeth. Little brat! He grabbed her by the arm and yanked down her hood, exposing her pointed ears. Porchemy lifted his sword and put the cold blade to one. “Don’t mock me, brat. If you don’t tell me where they are, I’ll cut an inch for every second you waste.” His blade pressed deeper against the uncovered flesh to stress his point.

Elva opened her mouth, but no words came out. She couldn’t possibly rat them out; the Captain would never allow them to live. Her bright eyes flickered toward the bush and she pointed further into the forest – she couldn’t bring herself to do it. “I hear voices coming from that way. They’re faint, but the same.” She hoped the vicious lieutenant would believe her. His grip on her hood had become loose; he did.

Suddenly, however a boy came running out of the underbrush. Elva yelped as Porchemy tossed her aside and grabbed him, lifting the dark haired boy off his feet. He struggled to be released, but the pirate tightened his grip around his slender body and held him close. “Let go of me! Damn you … help me Ace!” Elva was too scared to move; the pirate would know that she had lied.

“Did you just say Ace?” Porchemy narrowed his eyes, giving Elva a glare before returning his attention to the boy. “Do you know him?”

The boy smiled; a goofy expression that just didn’t fit the grave tone of the situation he was in. “He’s my friend … oh, but he did try to kill me just now.”

“I’m going to ask you one thing. Today, he took our money and ran away. Do you happen to know where he is?” The ingenuous boy puckered his lips and began to whistle nervously, telling Porchemy that he didn’t know; it was obvious that he was lying. This made the Lieutenant snicker. “You leave me no choice then … I’ll make you tell us, don’t worry.” He ordered the same pirate to grab the girl and began walking back towards the junkyard, holding the noisy boy at arm’s length to avoid his unruly limbs.

Elva pushed up on her forearms and stared out sorrowfully at the fading plant life – the boys from the underbrush had come into the clearing, watching them go. Heart beating fast, she felt drained. She silently begged them to help her and cried when they did not.

No use … they can’t hear you. Sorin Elva was an idiot to have hoped for better.

Sørine & Carina, Cosplay in Love | Copenhagen, Denmark

Sørine And Carina met in High School. One the slacker, the other the teacher’s pet.  They didn’t realize they had much in common until they ran into each other years later in a comic book shop.  The two quickly connected over Manga and comics, and became fast friends. They were soon sharing a real passion for cosplaying (Costume and roleplaying: the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime).

Cosplay.  Work.  Travel.  Fun.  And then we fell in love...

Their cosplay and love connection created magic the world was waiting for and soon they found themselves competing.  The duo were invited to the Tokyo International Film Festival, and placed fourth in The World Cosplay summit.

The Proposal

Disneyland, Tokyo 2014...  Before their departure, Carina packed two sets of Harry Potter themed engagement rings in her luggage.  In front of Cinderella's Castle, Carina asked a Disneyland employee to take a video of the two, which seemed like a usual request for the cosplay duo.  To Sørine's surprise and joy, this was no ordinary video.  As Carina asked, Sørine's "Yes!" brought tears to the eyes of Disney onlookers everywhere.  Their two year engagement gave them plenty of planning time!  

Planning

From start to finish the couple planned each intricate detail with their playful personalities ringing true.  Guest invitations were designed as "Acceptance Letters" from Hogwarts.  The couple's getaway car was a Ford Anglia (similar to the flying car in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) "We know... we are huge nerds," the couple exclaims when describing the details.  They turned to a treasured cosplay friend and supporter at Shinji Costumes and Tailoring who designed and crafted their beautiful wedding dresses.  Every detail was true to their passions, their love for one other and their lives together.

"After having been showered in rice we were picked up in a blue Ford Anglia (yes, like the the Harry Potter car) to the Botanical Gardens just five minutes from the church for the official wedding photos.”

Disneyland, Tokyo 2014…  Before their departure, Carina packed two sets of Harry Potter themed engagement rings in her luggage.  In front of Cinderella’s Castle, Carina asked a Disneyland employee to take a video of the two, which seemed like a usual request for the cosplay duo.  To Sørine’s surprise and joy, this was no ordinary video.  As Carina asked, Sørine’s “Yes!” brought tears to the eyes of Disney onlookers everywhere.  Their two year engagement gave them plenty of planning time!  

Planning

From start to finish the couple planned each intricate detail with their playful personalities ringing true.  Guest invitations were designed as “Acceptance Letters” from Hogwarts.  The couple’s getaway car was a Ford Anglia (similar to the flying car in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) “We know… we are huge nerds,” the couple exclaims when describing the details.  They turned to a treasured cosplay friend and supporter at Shinji Costumes and Tailoring who designed and crafted their beautiful wedding dresses.  Every detail was true to their passions, their love for one other and their lives together.

“After having been showered in rice we were picked up in a blue Ford Anglia (yes, like the the Harry Potter car) to the Botanical Gardens just five minutes from the church for the official wedding photos.”

​“The day was absolutely perfect.” The couple took each other’s names and are now Mrs. And Mrs. Gradholt Karlsson. They Lived Happily Ever After… The couple spent their honeymoon in Japan. They spent three days in Tokyo and five days in Nikko, a small, countryside village.  The honeymoon ended, celebrating with friends from Mexico, at The World Cosplay Summit.
