ok i know that tails's sky patrol and tails adventure canonically take place in the classic era but i need you to understand the sheer comedic potential of them happening after frontiers.

sonic lets tails go solo like "i trust you to handle yourself, be safe buddy" thinking that he's just going to globetrot, maybe help people out, beat up eggman, you know. and then when they meet back up his little brother has a kill count

I would argue that the End (base game) is also a reference to the Finalhazard. Less the boss itself and more the framing.

Super Sonic flies through space to fight a vengeful monster hell-bent on destroying the planet, and he's assisted by an unlikely ally in a red-and-black colored character who was artificially created by a Robotnik (and considers them a father figure) and opposed him for the entire game, until having a change of heart at the end and powering up alongside Sonic to fight the final boss.

And the red-and-black ally dies at the end, but they get better.

Hi, it’s been awhile. Idk if this is unpopular but I feel the reason to exclude Knuckles from the rest of the main cast because he’s the guardian of the Master Emerald rubs me the wrong way. Silver and Blaze I get, but Knuckles has always been that character whose development is slowly opening up and joining others. It’s subtle but it’s there. While Tails and Amy look up to Sonic, Knuckles is more of a peer and it adds something different to Sonic’s close circle.

P.S.: I gave up on IDW awhile ago but seeing that Riders comic without him stung 😣

Long time no see! You're not the only one who feels that way :P

Personally, I think the choice to exclude Knuckles is due to multiple factors:

the most obvious one, that he's supposed to guard the ME. Even though by the end of Frontiers, he seems to have accepted (again...) that he's afforded to live a little. You know, I think that by this point, if they wanted Frontiers to be relevant to the comics, they had time to reference it (the game came out one and a half year ago), but this is proof that IDW is running in its own parallel timeline.

Amy is more popular than Knuckles. This is undeniable. Her dynamic with Sonic is much much more popular, and this is even more undeniable. Let's be real here: If Knuckles had been the one struck by a malfunctioning gear, would Sonic have yelled in big pink font? :P Especially IDW Sonic, who is not above throwing mean jabs at him when he's not there.

I don't think the writers know how to write Knuckles, and they quietely phased him out like they did with Shadow - we just don't hear much of it because, again, Knuckles is not as popular. When he has appeared, he was reduced to a grumpy boomer who couldn't wait to yeet people off "his" island, to the point that it was his main concern during the MV crisis. He was better in #62, but still, I don't trust like that anymore.

Funny that you mention Silver and Blaze, because guess what? They're chilling with the Restoration. They could have participated if they wanted to. Obv they aren't needed for this plot (Silver has done more than enough...), but I just want to point out that the time traveller and the dimension hopper have had more screentime than the dude who is just living a few miles in the air :P see what I mean when I say he was phased out?

the thing is that sonic is not an extrovert but people (in-universe) think he is because he's trained himself to tolerate long periods of socializing. he maintains a public persona as this fun outgoing guy who can handle a crowd as easily as breathing but he only actually does an interview or gives a speech once a month if you're lucky and after the fact he goes and takes a nap in a field in the middle of nowhere

the mirage express can't imagine life without the conductor, and it's a simple cosmic truth that sonic needs tails.

sonic runs wherever he pleases and generally gives zero fucks about authority, but the mirage express is bound to not only its tracks but its programming.

the mirage express wants the conductor to stay. so bad. it wants to be together forever. it'll do anything, anything to keep him with it, even to the conductor's detriment. sonic wants his friends to stay too, and he can't imagine life without them, but he has to accept that they have lives outside of him, and they have to accept that too if they want to grow. they've both been with their respective groups for 32 years, and now it's... time to let go.

so the DLC fucked hard

my only complaint is the master king trial tbh. like yeah the towers were brutal but i managed to get through the first three on hard mode, and even though i had to switch to easy mode on the fourth one that was more of a "the game is not necessarily bad just because it requires advanced tech i don't have the skill to perform" thing. the master king trial is just bad. i haven't even finished the dlc i stopped at the trial and watched the rest on yt

but overall it was very good and i was so excited and pacing so hard i had to go for a walk, come back, and then go for another walk

okay im gonna talk about sage and eggman bc ive hinted at it briefly in prior posts but never actually made anything dedicated to my thoughts on the dynamic. i can't promise like a full in-depth rant with citations and shit but just like. stay with me here

i don't think eggman would be a good father to sage but i also don't subscribe to the idea that he's just manipulating her. like. it's more interesting to me to think of eggman as someone Trying to be a decent parent and then just. royally fucking it up

i've mentioned in a previous post. he loves her, sure, he accepts her as his daughter and genuinely cares for her but he still lets her die. he sends her into space to fight god with no help. and at the end of it all he just. goes to his computer and brings her back

do you understand the kind of unhealthy shit that this could foster. like even without consciously manipulating her, he's still using her. he still, in some way, sees her as disposable. he tells her to fulfill her function because that is what he created her for. he grieves, of course he does, and then he brings her back, because he cares about her, yes, but also because he can.

eggman feels like the kind of person who is used to seeing people as either obstacles or tools. i don't disagree with the idea that he's Not Built for fatherhood, or not accustomed to emotional connection, or doesn't know how to navigate emotionally supporting someone vulnerable. but like. what if he was trying anyway. and what if it doesn't work as well as he thinks it does.

like i can't help but be dissatisfied with the two viewpoints ive encountered so far. i understand where they come from and im not saying they're wrong because ultimately im not here to argue, im here to ramble about multicolored furries and it's really not something to be taken that seriously, but. i look at the idea of eggman being really abusive and i look at the idea of eggman being incredibly supportive and. i just can't help but think. what if it was more complicated than that.

endlessly fascinating to me that eggman espouses sage as his daughter and shows some semblance of genuine affection for her but he still lets her die. gerald, too, loved and cared for shadow like his own son, but when push came to shove he was a broken man with little to lose and shadow was nothing more to him than a loaded gun.

now, I understand the symbolism behind the End being the moon, now that it was talked about in an interview. i think that the ever-changing form is sick as hell and it will haunt my dreams for years.
