#Something about this song really fits the half-elf half mortal romances

ok ok so I recently reread the silm and right now I’m rereading LOTR and I like to listen to music as I read/do things, and I have thoughts on which of my songs parallel the silmarillion:

I Will- Mitski: this is so silm romance coded, it can really apply to any of them, but (in my humble opinion) it works soooo well for Beren and Luthien. staying together and caring for the person you love despite crushing darkness???? I’m sorry? “And by the time you wake/ I’ll be brave” can really apply to either of them, considering both of them have been pulled back from the brink of death by their partner. This song also works for Earendil and Elwing, especially if you think of it as Elwing trying to hold down the Havens and keep everyone safe while Earendil is voyaging. (Can you imagine Elwing singing this to herself at night, pretending she was singing to Earendil??? The feelsss) I also feel like you can make an argument for this song being Tuor and Idril related, especially “we’re not out of the tunnel yet/ I bet you though there’s an end/so stay with me” just the two of them trying to preserve hope and love amid the Fall of Gondolin . The whole of idea of the love between two people persevering even as their world is slowly collapsing.

tldr: Mitski’s “I Will” is so so silmarillion romance coded it HURTS to think about.
