most of us first watched avatar when we were kids. zuko is a handsome and strong (and angsty) teenaged firebender prince; it's not surprising that a lot of young watchers had a crush on him. katara is a beautiful smart and powerful young waterbender that a lot of young girls growing up related and looked up to; it's also not surprising that a lot of girls imagined being her (at least i did lol). and if some of them decided to ship zutara based on that then so fucking what?? what's so wrong about that??

I'm pretty sure Squid Sisters were already pretty popular back in the Splatoon 1-Splatoon 2 days. After all, their relationship, agent lives and family drama was the main focus of the plot (among saving the squid society). And even nowadays, people still love them. They're THE Splatoon icons. Have you forgotten how people went crazy over the Reporter Callie outfit? There were fanarts everywhere!

Off The Hook are also really interesting - they played a huge part in Octo Expansion (you know, the DLC with the biggest, darkest, most liked lore and aesthetic?) and in Side Order, we also know their backstories (especially Marina's backstory is pure fanfic material, people love the angsty deserter trope + she was a breath of fresh air and a mystery as a first important non-enemy octoling character ever). Not to mention that they're literal canon lesbians with healthy and interesting dynamics.

What do we know about Deep Cut?? They've got nothing going on. They were villains in the Splatoon 3 storymode but mind you, not even the main villains. They grew up together, they come from some prestigious families that aren't mentioned ANYWHERE outside of the Sunken Scrolls, we know nothing about them. They don't have backstories, they don't have interesting dynamics (they're just 3 random people and their bond isn't even shown to be that strong, of course people prefer the SS family drama or OTH lesbian romance). Deep Cut is boring, of course people don't care about them, don't blame us, blame Nintendo for neglecting them.

Also, stop acting like you're better than others because you don't care about the icky romance and give deserved equal attention to every poor idol that gets overshadowed by the lesbians. People DO care about other Splatoon characters. There are fanarts of the Agents (Agent 24 is problably the second most popular ship right after Pearlina), non-idol Splatbands, even Craig Cuttlefish and Octavio! Maybe you'll see all this content if you stop exclusively browsing only the pearlina tag. Also accept that Deep Cut is boring.

Okay, I don't have all the time to type up an entire essay (tbh I lowkey admire the effort of writing four paragraphs just to bitch on me for having an opinion), so I'm gonna summarise my result.

I don't follow the pearlina tags. The only Splatoon tags I follow are Splatoon and the promo kids tag. Used to follow more but I have my reasons for unfollowing the other ones. (They were mostly agent ships, for clarity.)

I know other people care about the others. I'm just saying that when stuff like this rolls around it's never seen because everyone talking about pearlina gets top spots on this site and no one gives attention to anything else, so everything else is hard to see. This is mostly a recent development with grandfest, but even so Pearlina overshadows a LOT. For me, the Callie suit was actually a rare case of the community not focusing on them.

i know the Squid Sisters were popular in their first games. That's the point. Y'all are sitting out here talking about the old idols and ignoring the ones we're supposed to be paying attention to.

So what if the deep cut members don't have much lore to their names? I'm in the promo kid fandom! They have literally only their names and people don't have a problem coming up with headcanons and engaging stories for them. Just be creative. That's what fandom is for.

Believe it or not, I know Pearl and Marina featured in side order and octo expansion. I know they have a healthy dynamic. Surprise surprise, I've played the games too. I have both DLCs and have completed both. I know. That's not my point.

i also know that there are poeople out there caring about other characters. Like I said, I'm in the promo kid fandom. It's just that whenever pearl and marina appear on screen, any trace of that is immediately overshadowed and made ten times harder to find. And I rarely have the time to go hunting through tags.

I'm not trying to act like I'm better. I'm not guilty of pearlina posting, but I'm not much better either. I'm just stating how I feel and how i see things. If you've got a problem with that, great, but don't insult me for my feelings. It's your choice how you react to things. If you've got nothing nice to say, don't say it.

if they were truly platonic, then why not say it? why wouldn't they say they love each other? yeah, obviously they do and they both know it, but it's different when it's said out loud, when there's a confirmation. ted said "I love you" to beard, then why not to rebecca? she's also his best friend. I don't know about y'all but I tell my friends I love them all of the time, and I'd say it especially in a moment like that. if they were leaving me, I'd hug them, I'd say "I'll miss you so fucking much", I'd ask them to call me and last but not least, I'd say "I love you". then why ted and rebecca, who have been the closest of friends, soulmates, wouldn't say that to each other?

because there's more than that. and this has been going on throughout the whole show, there's always something else with them, something left unsaid. rebecca was supposed to be the one to knock on ted's door on 1x07 and not sassy. rebecca carried the green army man in her bag all long. ted made biscuits for rebecca every single day for three years (who the fuck does that to someone they consider just "friends"? ted didn't do that to anyone else) just to get to know her and spend time with her. the only person on the show who ted truly dislikes is rupert, the person who hurt rebecca. rebecca had to put her thoughts in order before talking to ted about his departure, she had to really think this through in order to not say the wrong thing and push him away. rebecca knows she can be intense and impulsive, but with him? she had to be careful, and her conclusion taken out of all that thinking was to ask him to stay.

now look me in the face and tell me if that isn't love? pure love.

so now it's time to bring up this:

an explicit answer of how tedbecca was in fact considered, so no we're not crazy. we're not seeing things when there's not. everyone watched the last episode, everyone was there when the first scene showed up on our screens, you saw it too. and yes, it was cruel and it was nasty and we will probably never recover from it.

but the point here is, tedbecca could've been platonic at first, but towards the end... it wasn't. they weren't acting just like friends, there was something else. that's not how people treat their friends, just saying.

so I'd be really glad if everyone just stopped acting like we're imagining things or that we watched a different show because the proofs? they're all there, and it's fine if you don't ship it or if you wouldn't like for it to happen, that's your own deal and everyone is entitled to dislike something, but disliking a ship is different from pretending nothing happened because it did.

I don't understand why some clotis and zeriths care too much about what you think. You just called yourself the black sheep. but I think I know why. 1) it's probably because you do actually have lurking people who have the same opinions as you. maybe not exactly but definitely have the safe criticisms about aerith. and are shutting you up so those who have the same opinions don't get the platform to express themselves. 2) a more dissapointing pov, since this fandom has this ct vs ca thing going on, I think they're in too deep the rabbit hole that they're the representative etc etc. and that having you is a bad thing and call you a bad apple because they're narcissistic enough to think your actions represents them. maybe, tell the cas instead that everyone has different opinions? clotis like to humour them too much. For example, I don't agree with a lot of dutch dread's takes. In fact, I really hate most of them like I do with other clotis, but I just block them off and ignore it. Does their opinion represent Clotis and canon? nope, just themselves. It only irritates me when they think it is tho like notions such as "it's only realistic that …. Or else you think like a c/eriff" wtvr man.

Their problem with me is idgaf about their preconceived ideas they wanna use to blanket the fandom with and present some united "good cloti" front where they're superior and above all the dumdums.

And it's not just to be above them, but to be at the pinnacle above them. They wanna be seen as so good and pure and righteous that nobody doubts them anymore after all the shit for the last almost three decades.

And tbh there's nothing inherently wrong with that. Like I get the desire to be seen as some great example of shipping perfection instead of looked down on by "non-shippers" but the fact is, even though we don't sink to the levels those dumdums do with their racism, harassment and doxxing, we ain't up high. We're down in the dirt with them because we do get into it with them. There's no sugar coating that or pretending we're shiny and clean. We just ain't as dirty as them. And when everything's done we'll be the ones climbing out the trenches and celebrating, but let's not pretend it's all pretty and nice in the meantime.

That's why they don't like me, because I accept we're down in the mud with those assholes instead of acting like we're sitting on the sidelines watching Wimbledon.

I find it really funny that someone like Yuri would listen to someone like Aelfric.

Linhardt must be having a field day. Makes a lot of sense they picked him for the BE rep. Not only does it give you a healer, but he's Mr. Crests.

LAMO Claude's tweaking Edelgard. Not sure if he doesn't like her, or if he's flirting with her. Or both.

Edelgard is constantly annoyed by Claude though. I mean, I get it, but IDK, I don't think they'd make a good ship. Unless it was like, taking my enemy to bed sort of thing. Like they sleep together, and then try to stab each other.

Wereas Dimiclaude, is Claude teasing Dimitri and Dimitri either blushing like crazy or not getting it and being cute dense or saying something way too honest and sweet back and making Claude blush. IDK I've just always like Claude's two-faced ness getting stunned into silence by Dimitri's heart-on-sleeves act.

And then Edelgard x Dimitri - eh, I like them better as siblings - but if you want drama and angst, nothing is better than an AU where Edelgard remembers Dimitri and knows she'll have to kill him.

Hapi - If that doesn't work, I guess we're dead. LAMO. She's funny.

God, Ashe is just pure cinnamon roll, isn't he? Except for siding with Cornelia. He's like - we can't lead them back to Abyss or people will be in danger!

Byleth is getting way more personality infused options in the DLC. I wonder if they read the criticism? Anyways, I'm picking "there's nothing we can do." It's too funny to keep picking the "wrong" one. This Byleth is such a wimp. I headcannon that he's just wanting an excuse to get back to fishing and had no idea this would take so long, so all of this is just really an excuse.

where are the ot3 folk? asking for a friend.

I've been wanting to get into Mel x Jayce x Viktor. I don't necessarily ship it (primarily for reasons of fandom discourse, see below) but I very easily could. Because the show has done 95% of the work for us with this triad, in depicting Jayce as the hinge, having different but comparably potent bonds with Mel and Viktor. Like, there's even a pretty obvious head x hand x heart configuration that would be wonderful thematically for each of them etc.

BUT. And it's a big BUT.

It feels like we're still in the relatively annoying era of fandom discourse where there's awkward, fierce, unnecessary need to downplay/diminish one ship (and potential arm of a triad) (Jayce and Mel) in order to elevate the other (Jayce and Viktor) to the exclusion of all else. For example:

the sequence

In episode 5, the show offers us a parallel sequence with scene a: Jayce and Mel bonding over the different legacies their families have given them and wanting to give back, and ultimately acting on their established mutual attraction, spending the night together. And scene b: Sky trying to establish a connection with Viktor only to be brusquely rebuffed while Viktor remains consumed by figuring out the next stage of Hextech's development, and ultimately collapses. We also learn that he's been spending his nights in the lab.

Now, I read that scene as the parallel it was designed to be. We're witnessing two different men, making two distinct choices grounded in their very identities and who they are as people, their wants/needs etc. One chooses intimacy, companionship and love vs. the other's rejection of that. One literally has an intimate experience that is so transcendent it's visually akin to soaring through galaxies vs. the other chooses to live what's left of his life in a cold, dismal lab, choosing science and loneliness instead of intimacy and this choice results in his literal collapse (obvs it's important to note that hand-in-hand with Viktor's collapse comes a revolutionary scientific breakthrough and it's why Singed's words hit so hard a couple episodes later).

But, it'd also be very easy to read it as a triad sequence, if one wanted to, especially if you go right to the end of the sequence, where Jayce presumably heard about Viktor's collapse and goes to sit by his bedside. That only works, though, if you see Mel and Jayce as subjects.

And if you don't just ignore everything prior (i.e. the love scene, it happened, Jayce did in fact go downtown multiple times and enjoy it) and after the bedside vigil scene paralleled with Mel in her own bed (i.e. Jayce heading right back to Mel's in the morning to apologise for having to leave, Mel comforting him and telling him to make sure Viktor isn't alone). LIKE, SERIOUSLY, THE SHOW IS DOING ALL THE TRIAD WORK FOR US HERE.

Jayce has strong feelings for both Viktor and Mel, and the canon itself continually emphasizes that.

Alas, the predominant readings of that sequence that I see on these internet streets rarely even see Jayce as a subject, and they generally don't even see Mel as anything.

That's a problem, fam. Most, in order to support a purely Jayvik interpretation, see the love scene as being entirely about Viktor and his suffering compounded by notions of Jayce "betraying" Viktor with Mel, or Mel somehow forcing herself on an unwilling Jayce, et al. Nowhere in these readings does Jayce have any agency as a character. Mel herself is completely erased, a non-factor, a nothing. Which, I don't need to explain why that is so deeply problematic and troubling in general and for the many fans who've been burned by misogynoir playing out like this in fandoms before.

All this to say, thanks to the ppl who are sharing compelling arguments for a triad and making beautiful fanart, fic etc. You guys are the real winners because the canon has given you some great fodder to work with.

Here are some of my favorite quotes. Context may be added if I feel like it. Reactions are my goblin brain screaming. All of these came from a discord so if they don't make sense . . . see goblin brain comment.

This is just canonically how David plays video games. Either this or he's unwilling to commit violence at all, but I'll defer to Miles.

Spencer: "I didn't get 'em."

David: "Well, you tried your best and that's all that matters."

He calls healing "a little health kiss." I'm not sure why but it's very important to me.

Then there's a bit where they talk about Spencer's time at summer camp:

Then there's the fact that David/Miles gets to pick where they play each round, and he keeps insisting on going to the one called "Survey Camp" every single time because it has the word "camp" in it.

David: "Now, I don't like to disagree, but . . . I was thinking we could go . . . to Survey Camp!"

Spencer reminds him that technically since David's the one with the power to choose, his opinion is the only one that matters:

David: "Everyone's opinion matters. And my opinion is we're going to camp."

David just steamrolling over Spencer's interests is very good. There are these little selfish nuggets sprinkled in among the wholesomeness that really capture the full David experience.

David: "Well, he's climbing up . . . he's coming my direction . . . oh, he looks scary . . ."

Spencer: "Is he coming towards me?"

David: "Oooh, I don't know. I'm dead!"

The positivity is relentless. I think Miles said on twitter afterwards that this whole thing was exhausting and I can see why. Being David is no picnic . . .

David: "I have a question: do we have to shoot each other in this game?"

And then a few seconds later:

David: "I'm just wondering if maybe there's a way we can, you know, help others. Talk through our issues."

And a few seconds after that:

David: "I was asking if they wanted to be friends in the game!"

I believe that moved killed him, too. Precious.

Also we're interrupting the real Miles!David content to share something my friend suggested to me while I was watching this and giving her quotes; she said that maybe David just calls everything camp to make life more fun, and then sent me this imaginary exchange that actually killed me all the way to death:

David: Gwen Santos would you go to marriage camp with me

Gwen: I'm going to have to change this story when I tell everyone

It made me laugh quite a bit.

Anyway, back to the video!

Spencer: "How do you sign up for [Camp Campbell]?"

And then the conversation switches subjects and David breathes a sigh of relief.

Very shortly after this he changed his character from a woman (she was wearing a yellow shirt, which he liked because the campers wear yellow shirts) to "a Forward Scout with a positive attitude!"

Spencer: "Does everybody abuse David verbally?"

David: "You know, sometimes people have harsh words. Mostly Max, and Neil, and Gwen, and Quartermaster, and Nurf."

Spencer: "Did you just list almost everyone?"

David: "Mmm . . . I'd say maybe a third."

Poor David. Somebody please protect him.

Spencer: "Yeah, I think people abuse David. I get that vibe. Or at least, I feel it in my heart. Like I wanna put ants in your bunk or something."

David: "Well, I think that says more about maybe some of the hurt you're carrying with you. And sometimes when people don't know how to process that, they act out. Do you want some trail mix?"

David just said his favorite part of trail mix is the raisins which is so cute. "They have a little bit of salt on them, which isn't typical for a raisin."

And he keeps telling chatters to watch their language.

David: "Who is my favorite camper? Aww, you know I couldn't pick a favorite! . . . But I know who has the most potential, even if he doesn't want to admit it."

I've been saying for years that David doesn't have a favorite and gravitates towards the ones he thinks need him the most AND I FINALLY GOT ONE RIGHT!

David: [starts singing] "Bum-bum-bumblebee, bumblebee tuna, I love bumblebee, bumblebee tuna . . ."

Spencer: "Okay, please stop. I immediately regret this decision."

David: "Max said the same thing! One of my campers. And, uh, and my co-counselor, Gwen."

He's literally made of sunshine. I would die for this fictional man.

Spencer: "Are people at camp against their will? I feel like they are."

David: "No! . . . They don't always like it immediately, but it grows on them."

Spencer: "It sounds like they're there against their will."

David: "Well I just think that's a negative way of looking at it."

FWIW Spencer makes an excellent foil to David. Not as aggressive as Max or as dour as Gwen, but he brings a very . . . like, straight-man energy to the conversation. Like how a normal person would react to David IRL. I'd enjoy seeing these two interact more.

Spencer: "It's like your overpositivity is wanting me to balance it out with negativity."

David: "You know, I feel like that dynamic's pretty popular with me."

David: "One day we'll be able to afford safety equipment. Until then, we'll just have to deal with Quartermaster's Ropes Course. And a lot of pillows."

There's point near the last 20 minutes where either it got kinda boring or I just got too tired to keep track. But if there are any quotes you think I missed, please share them! They we're both so scared their best friend, Penelope, was in surgery and they didn't know if she'd make or not.

Emily started to comfort JJ by placing her hand gently onto hers. JJ looked up at her with tears in her eyes.

Emily couldn't hold back any longer, she wrapped her arms around JJ, and gently pulled their soft warm lips together Emily closed her eyes and she saw fireworks.

On what was arguable the worst day in BAU history She chose now to kiss JJ?

What the fuck is wrong with me Emily thought to herself pulling back slowly and looking at JJ with big puppy eyes.

"Sorry I couldn't help it I've been wanting to do that for a while now. When you looked at me with those sad eyes I just couldn't control it anymore I just wanted to kiss away your tears." Emily admitted as she felt her heart starting to race as she started to wish she could take that moment back god JJ must think she's a horrible person.

Before Emily could say anything else JJ wrapped her arms around her pulling their lips together once more and putting every ounce of passion into that one kiss. She then leaned into Emily letting her stroke her hair.

Yes they were aware that the whole team was there will not the whole team obviously. One important member was fighting for her life.

David walks up to the pair of ladies giving them a sad smile.

"You two can go home and get some rest if you like, you know anything changes we would call you right? This isn't first time Penelope has been shot and you know how strong of a fighter she is." The older profiler said and she put a gentle hand on each of their shoulders trying to comfort them.

"Dave I know she's a fighter but, this is different. She was with us when it happened we were on a girls night. It's my fault I think they were after me because it was me that the bullet was meant for. She quickly stood in front of me." JJ said swallowing hard and trying to fight her tears which wasn't doing any good at all they just kept on slipping out.

"Jennifer listen to me even if you were the intended Target, this is not your fault. You all protect each other that's what you do, you are all famiglia." Dave said taking a seat near them.

"Dave's right you know? Sometimes do whatever it takes to protect someone you love. Also I'm very glad that you guys finally kissed the tension was always quite annoying." Aaron said before getting up to get a cup of coffee.

"Wait! He acts like he knew that we had feelings for each other but how?" Emily grunted looking annoyed.

Derek raised an eyebrow in pure amusement as a smirk appeared on his face.

"Dude seriously? Come on princess you and JJ practically undress each other with your eyes at least once a day. It pretty much started when Emily joined the team." Derek said was a big smile on his face.

"God, you know sometimes I really hate profilers!" Emily pouted as she laid her head on JJ's chest the sound of the other's heartbeat was soothing her.

"Derek when are you going to tell Penelope that you're in love with her huh? Come on we all know that flirting isn't just playing around." JJ sighed as she gently petted Emily's hair.

"Pretty boy you ok you've been very quiet. I was actually thinking about telling her tonight when you girls got home." Derek said rubbing his face letting out a sad sigh.

"I was actually helping him plan what to say what to do. That's why I wasn't with you guys. I know I was planning to go with you and at the last minute I bailed because Derek needed my help. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you guys the truth about what I was doing but I mean come on you know those two should be together their soulmates after all like the two of you. I guess in a way I just feel guilty that I wasn't there to maybe protect Penelope." Spencer admitted rubbing his face yawning and trying to fight the sleep that was creeping in.

"I know how you feel but there was nothing you could have done. All we can do now is wait, support each other, hope she'll be ok, and pray." David said moving to sit next to Spencer.

A few hours had past which for the team felt more like days. Spencer was asleep spread out across a couple chairs in the waiting room using David's left knee as a pillow and resting his legs on Derek's lap.

The two agents didn't mind they were just happy that Spencer was getting some rest. They all knew how stressed out Spencer was.

"you're all here for Penelope Garcia?" The surgeon in full scrubs that had a lot of blood splatter on them asked.

"Yes we are doctor is she alright?" Aaron asked quietly as all of the color seemed to drain from his face.

The doctor cleared his throat, taking a deep breath looking at each of the team members faced, he had a very serious look on his face.

"It was touch and go for awhile and she had lost quite a bit of blood."the surgeon begun to explain.
