I see a lot of critique for 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 Lone Star that is either “this is so unrealistic” or “this happened in XYZ show” well I get to be the nerd that tells you a lot of what happens in the show is based on real life events and fictionalised (like a lot of shows). So the same storylines come up again and again.
This nerd is going to make a list because real life really is stranger than fiction.
Lonestar
Things that actually happened in real life plus their Lonestar episode:
(Some of these are on IMDB so I’m using the direct quotes)
01x01 - Pilot: A manure factory fire that kills the original 126
Real life: The opening incident at the agricultural-products facility is based on the real-life ammonium nitrate explosion at West Fertilizer Company in West, TX, on April 17, 2013. Fifteen people died in the fire and explosion, including ten firefighters from the West Fire Department. (IMDb)
01x02 - Yee Haw: a man poisons sandwiches with mercury.
Real life:
01x03 - Texas Proud: someone gets trapped in a grain silo, sucking them down.
Real life:
01x04 - Act Of God: tornados in Texas
Real life: The tornadoes are based on the 1997 Central Texas tornado outbreak that occurred on 27 May 1997 that resulted in 27 fatalities around Central Texas. (IMDb)
01x05 - Studs - fire in a bull semen factory
Real life: The explosion at the bull factory was inspired by a real-life event in Victoria, Australia. (IMDb)
01x 06 - Friends Like These - a dog alerts the 126 of its owners farm accident
Real life:
01 x 07 - Bum Steer - runaway bull causes havoc in a car dealership
Real life: (happened in Scotland lmao)
01 x08 - Monster Inside - a rattlesnake infestation in the basement of a house. The dementia storyline was too sad I’m not researching it. Son refuses to accept his mother has passed.
Real life: this one is self-explanatory and there was too many examples and now I’m getting adverts for anti snake traps. America you scare me. (Although I’m reading texas houses don’t have basements the more you know). The last one is a common motif in shows this Criminal Minds episode did it too and so did the film Psycho.
01 x 09 - Awakening - gender reveal party goes horribly wrong plus a caving disaster.
Real life: here is an article about gender reveal party accidents and here is the wiki about John Edward Jones’ tragic death in Nutty Putty Cave
01 x 10 - Austin, We Have A Problem - solar storm fries the electricals
Real life: In the year 1989 in Quebec, Canada, waves of energy called a coronal mass ejection or CME wreaked havoc on the power grid for 12 hours. These CME's are the result of an explosion on the surface of the sun which has released powerful bursts of electromagnetic energy into the solar system. (IMDb)

A Complete Guide to Solar Panel Installation for 6.6 kW Solar Systems in Victoria, Australia.
Introduction Solar energy is fast gaining popularity among people and companies in Victoria, Australia, who want to reduce their energy expenses and promote sustainability. Among the different solar system alternatives available in Victoria, the 6.6 kW solar system is notable for its efficiency and efficacy. This detailed guide will take you through the whole solar panel installation process in Victoria, including system components, installation techniques, and maintenance.
Understanding Solar Panel Systems.
What is a 6.6 kW solar system? A 6.6 kW solar system is often made up of several solar panels that generate 6.6 kilowatts of power under regular test circumstances. This system size is excellent for average-sized houses in Victoria, offering enough electricity to run necessary appliances, lights, and heating/cooling systems. Parts of Solar Panel Systems Solar panels are the most apparent components of the system, because they turn sunlight into power. Inverters: These devices transform the direct current (DC) supplied by solar panels into alternating current (AC), which is used to power home appliances. Mounting Systems: These hold the panels to the roof or the ground. Batteries (optional): Battery storage devices can save extra energy for later use when sunshine is unavailable, which is especially important in Victoria's changing environment. Monitoring System: This feature enables you to monitor energy generation and system performance in real time. Benefits of a 6.6 kW Solar System Cost savings: A 6.6 kW system may result in considerable savings on power bills, particularly in Victoria, where energy prices can be high. Environmental Impact: Using solar energy in Victoria reduces greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to a cleaner environment. Energy Independence: Generating your own power decreases dependency on the grid, which is particularly significant for Victoria residents who desire greater control over their energy bills. Increased Property Value: Homes in Victoria fitted with solar panels often see an increase in market value, making it a wise investment.
Preparing for installation Assessing Your Energy Needs Before starting with solar panel installation in Victoria, you should first examine your energy use. Examine historical power bills to determine your monthly energy use. This study will help you evaluate if a 6.6 kW system is suitable for your individual needs. Choosing the Right Location. The installation location has a considerable influence on the efficiency of your solar system in Victoria. Consider the elements listed below: Sunlight Exposure: Areas in Victoria that get enough of sunlight throughout the day are good for solar panel installation. Roof Condition: Make sure your roof is in excellent condition and can withstand the weight of the solar panels. Orientation and Tilt: South-facing roofs in Victoria get the greatest sunshine, and tilt angle may also affect energy production.
The Installation Process:
Step 1: Site Assessment. A skilled solar installation in Victoria will do a thorough site inspection to analyze your roof and determine the best spots for solar panels. This involves measuring the roof's measurements, looking for impediments (such as chimneys or trees), and evaluating shading concerns that may impact performance. Step 2: Designing the System Based on the site inspection, the installer will build a solar system that is suited to your energy requirements. This includes picking solar panels and inverters that are suited for the circumstances in Victoria. Step 3: Obtain Permits Before installation can begin, the installer must get the required approvals from municipal authorities in Victoria. This assures adherence to construction norms and regulations. Step 4: Installation Day. On the day of installation, the following processes are routinely taken in Victoria: Mounting the Panels: Solar panels are firmly mounted on your roof or ground. Electrical Wiring: The installer connects the panels to the inverter and the rest of your home's electrical infrastructure. Inverter Installation: The inverter is often located near the main electrical panel. System Connection: Once everything is hooked, the system is linked to your home's electrical system and the grid (where appropriate).
Step 5: Inspect and Approve Following installation, a local inspector in Victoria will assess the system to verify that it fulfills safety requirements. Once authorized, your solar system will be ready to produce electricity! Post-Installation Monitoring and Maintenance. Monitoring System: Most current solar systems in Victoria have monitoring software, which enables you to track energy production in real time. Regular Maintenance: While solar systems need little care, it is critical to maintain the panels clean and clear of dirt. Schedule regular checks with a local service provider in Victoria to verify that everything is working properly.
Understand Your Energy Savings After installation, keep track of your energy bills to see how much you saved. Many Victorian homes see large monthly expense savings. FAQs for 6.6 kW Solar Systems 1. How much room is needed for a 6.6 kW solar system? A typical 6.6 kW installation in Victoria takes around 30-40 square meters of roof area. How long does installation take? Installation might take anywhere from a day to a week, depending on the system's intricacy and the weather in Victoria. What exactly occurs during a power outage? If your system is linked to the grid, it will shut down automatically during a power loss to ensure safety. If you have battery storage, you may continue to utilize it during power outages. How long does a solar panel last? Most solar panels have a 25-year guarantee, but they may last much longer with careful maintenance. Conclusion Installing a 6.6 kW solar system is a wise investment for households in Victoria, Australia who want to save money on electricity while also reducing their environmental impact. Understanding the components, installation method, and ongoing maintenance can help you make an educated choice about switching to solar energy. (I am operating on very little sleep so this may get long sorry so sorry)
As true as all this is, turbines are a bigger risk to bats than birds. Several reasons - one is the air pressure changes from the blades cause 'barotrauma', which triggers internal bleeding. Another is that many bats are literally attracted to wind turbines, for reasons we still don't understand. The average US figure is that every turbine kills 12.25 bats, which doesn't sound like a lot until you multiply by the 70,800 turbines in the country and realise that means 863,625 bats a year (particularly tree roosting bat species, which account for about 80% of those). And that's just America - it's 14.3 per turbine across central Europe, and in Victoria, Australia, it's between 7 - 10.3 per turbine.
And, offshore turbines' interference and impacts on marine life (particularly cetaceans and their echolocation) is still poorly studied and understood. And I haven't even mentioned invertebrates, look, whose populations are plummeting, and yet are dramatically under-researched.
But like... this is one of those topics that people love to binarise (like genetic modification, 'organic' farming, and a bunch of other environmental things), with one side going "They're useless and ugly and terrible and we shouldn't have them!", while the other goes "Actually the real issue is climate change and they're completely fine and anyone who disagrees is repeating Big Oil propaganda!" and the truth is both in the middle and more nuanced than all that. I mean, for one thing... birds really do get the whole spotlight when discussing the wildlife impacts, and really shouldn't, as mentioned.
But also...
Turbines come into their own in remote areas of medium wind-speed (around 34mph without too much blustering), where one to a handful of turbines can be deployed to small scale settlements that are relatively isolated. In these conditions, they are fantastic. Small Welsh village half way up a mountain? Fab. Collection of farms miles out into the countryside? Great. They're relatively cheap and easy to install, require relatively little maintenance, they give energy resilience and sustainability, and one or two here and there are not going to drive anything to extinction any time soon. Not even bats that are curiously obsessed with the damn things. In this area, turbines are Gods.
But what they're not good for is large scale installations in areas that regularly experience low or high wind speeds. They need a minimum of about 10mph in wind speed to start working, and shut down at 56mph. And they aren't good at blustery winds, so those need to be fairly steady windspeeds. Meanwhile, wind that is 'harvested' by a turbine will obviously have its flow pattern and speed altered as it continues on its path, because that's physics - with a handful of turbines this is not a problem. But several hundred placed together in a big farm? They steal each other's wind. This means large windfarms are progressively less energy efficient after a certain point.
And, in reference to the Bat Thing... older wind farms that pre-date bat-friendly legislation on positioning are still there, en masse, in bat migration routes, killing bats. And on top of THAT, bat-friendly rotational speeds for turbines are not the speeds windfarm owners want to use, because they are slower than Maximum Generation (there's a process you can look up called 'curtailment', which activists are now pushing for in a lot of turbine-rich areas).
And furthermore, turbines' massive environmental advantage - the lowest emissions-production of any energy generating technology - is counterbalanced to a greater or lesser extent by their disadvantage - the shortest efficient operational lifespan of the main energy-generating technologies. A tidal lagoon will run for 120 years, a nuclear plant for 80, a coal plant for 60, solar panels (size and quality dependent) for 30, and wind turbines for 15-20; of which they lose efficiency after just 10 years (I've seen some papers suggest 7 years, though that was a few years back now; new ones are likely better, but that does mean still-active older ones... aren't great). Offshore is often worse, because of salt spray on the materials and mechanism. And we're still struggling to work out how to recycle the blades once they're decommissioned, and what to do about the big concrete bases, and the nature of big windfarms is that they often get built in vital climate-countering habitat like upland peat bogs anyway which destroys the peat...
But because they're the cheapest option, governments like them, and so over-invest into areas and big windfarms they shouldn't so that they can show statistics about their green spending to voters. And so turbines get used massively inappropriately in a way that would be better spent on other options; and then their critics focus on how this means they're inefficient and ugly and useless, and their supporters talk about their advantages and successes when used right, and neither side addresses the fact that the real issue is that they're being used completely wrong.
Turbines are a super important element of a healthy, diverse energy matrix with a minimal environmental impact WHEN USED APPROPRIATELY. Even with bats! Just like OP's comment about painting one blade reducing birdstrike, there are ways of reducing the impacts to bats, birds, and a whole bunch of others. This is why all major wildlife organisations around the globe, including bat ones, actually support wind power development.
But we are not using them appropriately, and unlike what a hell of a lot of the tags and comments on this post seem to think, it's not fossil fuel propaganda to point out that causing a brand new ecological problem for endangered species when you don't even have to and could avoid it is something we should be stopping. Like there are people in the notes saying "If we don't halt climate change there won't be birds anyway, because we'll have destroyed their habitat!" Yeah. Yeah, that's true. But also... we aren't painting one blade on every turbine black, are we? Even though we know that reduces avian mortality. So we are deliberately incorporating Extra Bird Death into our Save The Birds method, and that's... bad, actually. We do not need to do that. We don't actually have to trade off one against the other. And uh. We absolutely should be criticising that. Ironically, "we have to choose one or the other" is actually exactly what Big Oil propaganda is aiming to make everyone think - those commenters are just coming down on the opposite side of the 'choice'.
Basically, as with all environmental issues, pretty much, it's not a black and white "this is good/bad" issue. And if we're going to fix the environmental crisis, far more people need to get far better at learning about these nuances so they can push for the right changes we need (better and properly enforced planning legislation, maximum operational speeds, reduced windfarm sizes, turbine provision on smaller scales in isolated/remote communities with more regionally-appropriate methods prioritised elsewhere, etc) rather than making easy sweeping blanket statements based on half a fact (climate change and cats kill more birds, therefore we should put in as many turbines as we want and disagreeing means you deep throat Big Oil.)
as a huge lover of birds, 90% of the concern against wind turbines being used for energy is literally just pro fossil fuel propaganda. birds ARE at a risk however there is a lot of strategies even as simple as painting one of the blades that reduces a lot of accidental deaths. additionally renewable energy sources will do more in favor of the environment that would positively impact birds (and all of us). one study found over one million bird deaths from wind turbines. while that is a shockingly high number and we should work to drastically shrink it, at least 1.3 billion birds die to outdoor cats on a yearly basis. it was never about caring about birds

What is Green Power Australia?
The GreenPower program gives consumers a way to support Australian renewables. When a renewable energy generator makes a certain amount of energy, they receive Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGC). Power companies buy these certificates and surrender them to the Clean Energy Regulator. This incentivises new investment in renewables.
GreenPower customers’ electricity usage is offset with RECs from government accredited wind, solar, bioenergy, hydro and landfill gas projects. This energy is then added to Australia’s grid on their behalf.
GreenPower is a government-led initiative
GreenPower is a government-led initiative that enables households to support Australian renewables, reduce their emissions and contribute to a clean energy future. It is available through most electricity retailers, and allows consumers to offset their electricity usage with renewable energy that has been bought from accredited Australian renewable generators.
The program is managed by a consortium of state government agencies, including the ACT, NSW, Victoria and South Australia. Its strict environmental standards ensure that only renewable energy generators can get accreditation to participate in the program. This means that only renewable energy that produces net-zero greenhouse gas emission reductions in the electricity sector can be purchased through a green power Australia product.
With the help of EnergyAustralia, customers can choose to buy 10%, 20% or 100% GreenPower accredited renewable energy. This energy will be added to the national grid on their behalf. The electricity purchased will come from renewable sources like wind, solar and hydro. All GreenPower products are verified and audited by the GreenPower authority.
It’s a simple way to support Australian renewables
GreenPower is a government-accredited scheme that gives you the option to purchase renewable electricity with your power company. Its proceeds go toward new Australian renewable projects, which are then added to the national electricity grid. The electricity from these projects is then passed on to your home or business.
The GreenPower premium on your energy bill is used to buy Large-Scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) from accredited renewable energy generators. These LGCs are additional to those that retailers must buy to meet their obligations under Australia’s Renewable Energy Target.
However, GreenPower can be expensive, averaging around five to 10 cents more per kWh than standard electricity. If you don’t want to spend extra money on
GreenPower, try switching to a carbon neutral retailer instead. The projects that are purchased under a carbon neutral plan may not be directly related to the energy industry, and can range from waste management in Brazil to forestry regrowth schemes in Vietnam.
It’s a way to reduce your carbon footprint
Green power electrical is a way to reduce your carbon footprint by offsetting your electricity consumption with renewable energy. It is a government-accredited program that allows electricity retailers to match your consumption with renewable energy generated by accredited generators like solar, wind, bioenergy, and hydro. These projects must meet rigorous environmental standards to earn the GreenPower tick of
approval. The National GreenPower Accreditation Program sets the rules for GreenPower products and independently audits them.
Energy efficiency and onsite renewables can only reduce your business’s energy usage by a small amount, so buying GreenPower is another option to help you reach your sustainability targets. This can be particularly important for businesses that are not able to install rooftop solar.
The Green Electricity Guide is a great resource to find the best GreenPower provider for your business. It offers an independent assessment of Australia’s electricity retailers and their climate-related commitments. It also provides information on the criteria you should consider when selecting a retailer for your business.
It’s a way to support local jobs
For businesses that cannot install rooftop solar, GreenPower is an affordable way to support local jobs in renewable energy. It is a government accredited scheme that buys renewable energy certificates on your behalf, and it will be included in your electricity bill. The renewable energy is then added to the national electricity grid and used to power your business.
Green power provides carbon neutral energy to help reduce emissions. It is available from most Australian electricity retailers and is a great option for those who want to make a difference in climate change. It can be purchased online or by calling your electricity retailer.
The GreenPower program is a joint initiative of the ACT, NSW, Queensland, South Australia, and Tasmania governments. It is independently audited to ensure that your GreenPower purchase supports greater renewable generation in Australia. This includes a mix of wind, solar, bioenergy, and hydro. The GreenPower program also offers an optional decoupling of the GreenPower certificates from the power itself. This allows businesses to claim GreenPower credits in their carbon accounting and meet strict sustainability standards.
