The Solene Mazingue story is infuriating. Had you also seen Olivia Oliver's Instagram post about her own assault while visiting Montreal? Something is very rotten and I'm proud of the bravery of these young women.
it is infuriating. the trauma compounded by the culture and these organizations valuing appearances and their continued success over the health and wholeness of these young women and burying their cries for help. it’s in skating, and it’s also everywhere. Olivia said Soléne inspired her to speak up. it is brave, and they are helping others. we need to listen and support each other more than ever

The Idea of You - 2024
9/10
general-
i have been WAITING for this fucking movie. if you know me you know i am a whore for all characters by nicholas galitzine and HAYES IS NO DIFFERENT. the point taken off is for the fact that his name is hayes and another secret reason i will reveal below. wonderful movie- honestly solid dialogue and plot for an angst rom. ummm,,,
spoilers below cut
okay the secret reason is his facial hair at the end. it's a no from me. anyway. LOVE the dialogue LOVE the mother-daughter relationship LOVE hating daniel LOVE all the acting (seriously Anne and Nick KILLED THE SHIT OUT OF THIS IT WAS BRILLIANT) kudos to nick for having the first thing he physically did to her be literally shove his face into her tits i turned away from the screen for one second and bam. also i immediately saved all the august moon (that's also a weird name wtf) songs on spotify. I kinda wish hayes' bandmates were like,, cool and sweet. at least one of them seemed to be. but the one guy was a douche wtf. anyway. ummmmm,,,, for being a Wattpad fanfic the general plot was pretty believable. Soléne's inner turmoil and choosing her daughter over Hayes but still loving him. the way media turns everything into a witch hunt. bonus point for the graham norton cameo. and the fact that for everything they seemed to use actual shit instead of editing a text message or interview or something lol. i kinda love it.
Most unbelivable thing to me in the entire movie was Soléne saying she wanted to live in new york but could "afford to live in LA" girl you own an art gallery how,,, how,,,, nvm. anyway.
Humor was great, acting was great, kissing was great, this was a killer movie and i will watch again.

I couldn’t stop gushing over Anne Hathaway throughout the entire movie. Her chemistry with Nicholas Galitzine is electric, making their whirlwind romance feel utterly captivating and surprisingly genuine. Despite the film hinting at the supposed absurdity of their pairing—Soléne having just turned 40 and Hayes being barely half her age—it doesn’t come across as ridiculous at all. In fact, it challenges the notion that love should be bound by societal expectations, showing that real connection transcends age (as long as both parties are adults).
What makes this film stand out is how it tackles the complexities of such a relationship in today’s hyper-vigilant world. In an era where people are quick to pass judgment, constantly dissecting others’ lives under the guise of moral superiority, a romance like Soléne and Hayes’ would undoubtedly face harsh scrutiny. The film brilliantly portrays this tension—how outside opinions, especially in our overly “woke” society, can attempt to shame or belittle what two people share, turning a private, genuine connection into public spectacle. It’s easy to see how this kind of relationship could be difficult to navigate, and the movie captures these challenges with nuance.
I especially loved the ending. Even though it’s a cliffhanger, there’s an underlying sense of hope. You get the feeling that, despite everything, Soléne and Hayes are set to experience the best times of their lives—whether together or apart. It’s a conclusion that leaves you both satisfied and curious, knowing their story isn’t quite finished yet.

I'm in this weird state of mind when it comes to the "The Idea of You" movie, where I'm excited for it because Anne and Nick in a movie together? Fantastic. Wonderful. Can't wait.
But... I listened to the audiobook recently and good lord that book irritated the hell out of me. I found Solène incredibly unlikable as a protagonist and I spent the the second half of it constantly thinking "Well what the fuck did you expect to happen, you idiot?"
I reeeeaaally hope they find a way to make these characters more sympathetic in the movie because ugh, both Solène and Hayes infuriated me to no end...
(spoilers for the book after this point)
Like yeah I get the it's supposed to be a sort of commentary on the judgement women are often subjected to when dating significantly younger men, as opposed the lack of judgement older men receive when dating younger women, but the actual plot of the book made it very difficult for me to actually feel any kind of sympathy for the main character when she was hopping around the world with (and fucking) a 19 y.o. boyband member whilst lying to her daughter (who is also madly 'in love' with him and whose bedroom is filled with memorabilia of him and his band) about where she was and who she was with the entire time.
Isabelle (the daughter) inevitably finds out about the relationship before her mother is able to actually get it together and be honest with her, and the affair is eventually outed to the public, with things going severely downhill for all involved after that point. But Soléne still continues on with the guy even though her daughter is clearly suffering, and dildos are literally being mailed to her house, and her workplace is vandalized by irrate fans. She only ends things with him after hearing the exact details of the bullying Isabelle has been experiencing (which Isabelle was hiding from her mother because she was afraid of causing her to be alone).
Idk man, all I could think about was how much I wanted to shake Solène and tell her to wake the hell up.

Soléne: I own an art gallery, with my girlfriend
Hayes: Girlfriend?
Soléne: Not that kind of girlfriend
Hayes: Not that I was judging…
Soléne: Just that you were fantasizing?
