Using Canva For Your Social Media Creative
When we first heard about Canva, we didn’t take it too seriously. Sure, you could use Microsoft Paint or Adobe Photoshop (which both cost money) but that wasn’t very helpful for everyday situations like creating social media posts. Then came Canva which made designing simple and even fun! Here are four reasons why you should start using Canva for your social media creative needs:
Canva is a powerful design app, and it’s free.
You can use Canva to create Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts for your business.
It’s a powerful design app and it’s free, but it also has some limitations:
Canva is not as expensive as Photoshop. If you want to get the most out of Photoshop, then you will probably have to spend some money on classes or tutoring sessions.
Canva is easy-to-use but there is a learning curve involved if you want to become an expert user. You will have more options with Adobe Photoshop than with Canva when it comes time for advanced editing (like removing blemishes). However, both programs offer simple features that allow users without much experience in graphic layout design applications an opportunity to produce great results quickly without much effort on their part – which makes these programs ideal choices for those looking for quick solutions!
Canva allows you to create social media posts from scratch, or use pre-designed templates.
Canva is a popular design tool that allows you to create social media posts from scratch, or use pre-designed templates. You can also create your own templates and then customize them as needed.
You can use Canva for different types of social media platforms and posts, like Instagram Stories or Facebook cover photos.
Canva uses a drag-and-drop system that makes you feel like a designer.
Canva is a web-based graphic design tool that uses a drag-and-drop system that makes you feel like a designer. It’s easy to use, even if you’re new to creating graphics or building websites. Canva makes it easy for anyone to create professional designs and share them on social media.
You can start by browsing through their pre-designed templates and images or upload your own images, text, and shapes from scratch. You’ll find hundreds of thousands of free images available on the site, but if none of them work for what you need, then there are also plenty of paid options available in the marketplace as well (prices range from $1 – $10).
Now when I say “drag and drop” I mean it! There isn’t any technical knowledge needed here at all – anyone can do this! If you want something more advanced such as adding text boxes around specific areas of an image then this feature has been created with ease in mind too; just click on the icon above wherever it says “Type Here” when selecting your template (this indicates where you want something added), select which type of box should be placed there (such as paragraph text box) then just click inside this area before typing away!
You can use Canva on your desktop, tablet, or mobile device.
Canva is an online design tool that you can use to create all kinds of graphics, including infographics, memes, flyers, and social media graphics. You can use it on any device that has internet access and a browser—that includes your desktop computer (Windows or Mac), your tablet (iPad or Android), and even your smartphone.
Downloading your designs is quick and easy, and you can use them on multiple platforms.
Once you’ve created a design, downloading it is quick and easy. You can even download multiple designs at once for use on multiple platforms.
You will love Canva for creating designs in less time and with less money than other alternatives.
Canva is a web-based design software that allows you to create social media posts from scratch, or use pre-designed templates. It has over 1 million paid users and over 40 million downloads across all platforms.
Canva is powerful enough for professional designers and easy enough for beginners. With Canva, you can create marketing graphics like infographics, sales ads, and social media posts. You will love Canva for creating designs in less time and with less money than other alternatives.
Conclusion
So, if you’re looking for a new way to spice up your social media posts, we think Canva is a great option. It has plenty of templates and tools to make your next graphic creation quick and easy. Plus, we love that it is completely free!
We often recommend using Canva to clients who don’t want to spend the money on having an agency manage their social media. Our team always uses a combination of tools along with a content calendar that ladders up to a larger marketing plan. A Step-by-Step Marketing Plan for Small Businesses in Cincinnati
Feeling overwhelmed by the vast marketing landscape? You’re not alone. For small businesses in Cincinnati, navigating the marketing world can be a daunting task. But fear not! With a well-defined marketing plan, you can effectively reach your target audience, build brand awareness, and ultimately, drive sales.
This guide offers a step-by-step approach to creating a customized marketing plan for your Cincinnati small business. Forget the frantic searches for “marketing agency nearby” or “marketing companies for small business near me.” This plan empowers you to take control and build a marketing strategy that fits your budget and goals.
Step 1: Define Your Business Goals and Target Audience
Goals: What do you want to achieve with your marketing efforts? Do you want to increase brand awareness, generate leads, or boost online sales? Be specific and measurable.
Target Audience: Who are you trying to reach? Understanding your ideal customer’s demographics, needs, and online behavior is crucial. Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and customer surveys to gain insights.
Step 2: Analyze Your Resources and Budget
Resources: What skills and resources do you have at your disposal? Do you have an in-house marketing team, or will you outsource some or all of your marketing activities? Consider budget limitations and prioritize tactics that align with your resource availability.
Budget: Determine how much you can realistically allocate to marketing. This can be a fixed amount or a percentage of your overall revenue. Remember, even a small budget can be effective with careful planning.
Step 3: Choose the Right Marketing Mix
The marketing mix (or 4Ps) outlines the key elements you can control to influence customer decisions.
Product/Service: Focus on the value proposition of your offerings. How does your product/service solve customer problems and differentiate you from competitors?
Price: Determine a competitive pricing strategy that reflects the value you offer.
Place: Consider where your target audience interacts with your business. This includes your physical location (if applicable), online presence (website, social media), and distribution channels.
Promotion: This is where you utilize various marketing tactics to reach your target audience and influence their purchase decisions.
Step 4: Develop Your Marketing Strategies and Tactics
Now it’s time to choose specific tactics to achieve your goals. Here are some popular options for small businesses in Cincinnati:
Content Marketing: Create valuable blog posts, infographics, videos, or social media content to educate and engage your audience. Highlight your expertise and showcase the benefits of your offerings.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Optimize your website and online content with relevant keywords to improve your ranking in search engine results for local searches (e.g., “SEO services Cincinnati”).
Social Media Marketing: Engage with your target audience on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Share your content, respond to comments, and run targeted ads to reach a wider audience.
Email Marketing: Build an email list and send targeted email campaigns to nurture leads and promote special offers.
Public Relations: Connect with local media outlets to spread awareness about your business through press releases, community events, or sponsorships.
Step 5: Craft a Compelling Brand Story
Developing a strong brand story is vital for connecting with your target audience on an emotional level. This story should communicate your company’s values, mission, and the unique experience you offer customers.
Step 6: Implementation and Measurement
Implementation: Develop a timeline for executing your marketing plan and assign responsibilities. Track your progress and adjust your strategy as needed.
Measurement: Monitor the success of your marketing efforts using key performance indicators (KPIs). These could be metrics like website traffic, lead generation, conversion rates, or social media engagement. Analyze the data to see what’s working and adapt your approach accordingly.
Bonus Tip: Consider Local Marketing for Cincinnati Businesses
Don’t forget the power of local marketing for small businesses in Cincinnati. Here are some additional tactics to consider:
Get listed in online directories: Include your business in popular directories like Google My Business, Yelp, and Yellow Pages.
Partner with local businesses: Collaborate with other complementary businesses in Cincinnati to cross-promote each other’s services and reach a wider audience
Support local events: Sponsor or participate in local events to gain brand exposure and connect with the community.

Everyone, it seems, wants a piece of Moo Deng. The baby pygmy hippo is barely two months old and already famous. So beloved on TikTok, Instagram, and X is Moo Deng that workers at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, the place in Thailand where she was born, are doing all they can to keep up with her fans’ appetite for more. They post videos, photos, updates. They also welcome thousands of visitors a day and find themselves having to defend Moo Deng when tourists throw shells at her while she’s just trying to chill.
Moo Deng, a name that means “bouncy pig,” has probably been all over your timeline lately—on Sephora makeup tutorials, on X’s main feed. She was born in July and in the past few weeks has become the Internet’s New Favorite Animal. A tradition almost as old as the internet itself, Favorite Animals—Maru, any of the dogs on the shiba inu puppy cam, those two llamas who just happened to run free the same day everyone was trying to decide what color The Dress was—come into the public consciousness seemingly out of nowhere. Some, like Doge, stick around; others disappear, or simply outgrow their cuteness, within a matter of weeks.
All of which makes capitalizing on their fame a matter of some urgency. It seems heartless to think of animals this way, but if their owners don’t, someone else will. Perhaps that’s why zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi told the Associated Press this week that the zoo has begun the process of trying to trademark and patent the hippo to avoid her likeness getting used by anyone else—a smart move considering Moo Deng mugs, T-shirts, and other merch are already popping up online. Income from these efforts, Chodcho told the wire service, could “support activities that will make the animals’ lives better.”
Moo Deng might need it. Fandom is getting a bit out of control these days. As pop stars like Chappell Roan have amassed online and offline fame, they’ve also had to use their platforms to ask for space from boundary-less fans and stalkers. Social media celebs like Drew Afualo, on whose podcast Roan appeared to talk about the subject, also tell stories of being approached in public by people who simply know them from the internet.
It may seem odd to compare them to Favorite Animals, but the ways in which people feel entitled to their time aren’t that far apart. Everyone wants something for the ’gram, even if that something is a living being with its own sense of agency. One of Moo Deng’s most popular TikToks has 34 million views, and zoo staff have had to limit her visiting time to five minutes on Saturdays and Sundays to keep too many people from trying to get content of their own.
Trademark protections may be the best way for Moo Deng’s caretakers to ensure others don’t cash in on her viral fame. When Jools Lebron made efforts to trademark her “very demure, very mindful” meme, one of the hurdles that emerged was that it’s hard to claim ownership of a phrase. As Kate Miltner, a lecturer in data, AI, and society at the University of Sheffield’s Information School, told me at the time, memes with audiovisual elements, like Nyan Cat or Grumpy Cat, are easier to register. “People will invariably try to make money off of viral or memetic content, as we've seen time and again,” Miltner says when asked about trademarking the baby hippo, adding that the Cincinnati Zoo has already done this with Fiona the Hippo. “It's smart of the Khao Kheow Open Zoo to (at least try to) ensure that they’re the ones that do so.”
Lebron seems to be figuring out how to market her moment, and Moo Deng’s keepers seem to be doing the same. Being online in 2024 means living in a state of near-constant vulnerability. You could get hacked or turned into a humiliating deepfake. Having a public opinion on a video game or The Acolyte could turn your mentions into a hellscape. And that’s what happens to filthy casuals. When you’re an ascending pop star or a baby hippo the weak spots multiply, because the world always seems hungry for more of you. It’s possible to protect yourself, even monetize yourself, but you can lose yourself, too.
Like Boaty McBoatface, Moo Deng was named by the internet. The zoo held a poll on social media. Unlike McBoatface, Moo Deng is a living thing; she’s a member of an endangered species and needs protecting. Moo Deng is more than a meme.

The first video she ever posted about foraging garnered 40,000 views overnight. She also showcases her knowledge of cooking with wild plants on her TikTok account. Nelson mixes her environmental science education with her theatre skills, producing humorous and educational videos that both entertain and educate her followers on how to reduce their environmental impact. Nelson is a vegan and her TikTok videos showcase foraged plant-based meals.
She attributes her love for the outdoors to her parents and two sets of grandparents who fostered her interest in exploring the outdoors at a very young age. She began learning about growing plants outdoors at five years old while gardening with her mother on weekends. In her early childhood, Nelson also attended a Montessori school that was environmentally oriented, which she credits for allowing her to explore her love for foraging and nature more deeply.
Nelson continues to foster a love for music, particularly singing and ukulele playing, and incorporates those interests into her TikTok videos from time to time.

Calls for NFL Reforms Grow After Damar Hamlin Suffers Cardiac Arrest During Game
Chris Walker January 3, 2023
Damar Hamlin, a 24-year-old safety in his second season with the Buffalo Bills, is in critical condition after going into cardiac arrest during a Monday night game with the Cincinnati Bengals.
After tackling wide receiver Tee Higgins, Hamlin took two steps and collapsed backward. Medical personnel immediately rushed to his side, administering CPR and giving him oxygen as he lay motionless on the ground. Hamlin was then strapped to a stretcher and carted off the field in an ambulance.
Commentators were at a loss for words, and went to commercial break several times during the 10 to 15 minutes that Hamlin received medical attention. Several players from both teams were visibly upset, with many crying and praying on the field as medical care was being administered.
It appears that players were initially told they would have five minutes in the locker room before resuming the game, but after coaches from both teams conferred with officials, it was agreed that the game should be suspended indefinitely. About an hour later, the NFL announced that the game would be postponed.
NFL vice president of football operations Troy Vincent disputed the claim that play was going to resume five minutes after Hamlin was driven off the field, even though it appeared on screen that players had been told to warm up after Hamlin was carted away, with Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow throwing footballs to his teammates during that time.
“Neither coach was talking about resuming play, the players were not thinking of resuming play,” Vincent said. “How do you resume play after seeing such a traumatic event?”
A statement from the Bills on Tuesday morning said that Hamlin’s heart had stopped but was restored by medical professionals on the field. He is now sedated and in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Jordan Rooney, Hamlin’s friend and marketing representative, tweeted earlier in the evening that Hamlin’s vitals had returned “to normal.”
Teams and players tweeted well wishes for Hamlin and expressed shock at the incident.
Many commentators urged the NFL to consider reforms in the wake of Hamlin’s injury and other worrisome injuries that took place earlier this season.
After explaining a number of scenarios that could have led to Hamlin collapsing on the field, ER physician and social media personality Jeremy Faust said that changes to the sport needed to be discussed. “The worst fears are being confronted, and this must trigger reform,” he said.
Some social media users, including political columnist Skip Bayless, questioned how the game could be resumed this late in the season. Nina Turner, a progressive former Ohio state lawmaker, condemned Bayless’s tweet, suggesting that it showcased the way sports leagues exploit athletes, particularly players of color.
“This goes to show how some dehumanize professional athletes, especially Black athletes,” Turner wrote on Twitter. “These athletes are people with families. They are people, not bodies meant for entertainment.”
In an op-ed for Truthout in October, journalist Harvey Wasserman, who once played football as a wide receiver, pointed to other serious injuries this season, arguing that changes to the sport were desperately needed. When Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa collapsed on the field earlier in the season after sustaining a hard hit to his head, for example, the team initially told the public he had undergone a “back injury.” Tagovailoa was allowed to play the following week, only to sustain yet another head injury.
While quarterbacks are especially in need of protection, players in all positions are at risk of severe injury, Wasserman noted.
“For all the focus on rules surrounding quarterbacks, the essence of the game at all positions remains embedded in its violence, with the expectation of injury being virtually universal,” he wrote.
Replacing tackling with the use of flags “may be the game’s only hope,” he went on, adding:
The violence lovers will whine that the sport is going “wimpy.” But in the long term, the whole game must be overhauled and made less brutal. The grotesque parade of seriously harmed young stars being carted off the field is not sustainable.
The reality is this…

Outsource Marketing: The Key to Thriving in Today's Challenging Hiring Landscape
The world of business is always changing and operations is one place we can optimize to improve our companies. One such approach is to outsource marketing, a rapidly expanding trend that provides numerous advantages, especially when considering the obstacles encountered when hiring and retaining employees for an in-house marketing department.
Outsource Marketing: A Timely Response to Modern Hiring Challenges
With the emergence of the gig economy, generational gaps, and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit and keep top-notch talent for their marketing teams. That's where outsource marketing comes into play. By deciding to outsource your marketing department, companies can benefit from the knowledge of experienced professionals who are proficient in the latest marketing tactics and methods.
Why Outsource Your Marketing: The Main Perks
Outsource online marketing presents a range of benefits, such as cost reduction, access to state-of-the-art tools and technologies, and the adaptability to scale services according to your business requirements. These benefits make it a popular choice for companies looking for options instead of dealing with the challenges of hiring and sustaining a dedicated marketing team.
Weighing the Pros and Cons of Outsourcing Marketing
Outsource marketing has numerous benefits, it's crucial to assess the pros and cons. Some issues businesses face are the risk of miscommunication and the possible loss of control over specific aspects of your marketing strategy. Nonetheless, by carefully selecting a reputable marketing agency and maintaining open lines of communication, these risks can be minimized.
As we explore this blog post further, we will examine the different challenges businesses face when hiring and retaining employees for their marketing departments and discuss the merits of opting for an outsource marketing solution to address these challenges.

The Generational Disconnect: Problems arising from directing employees of different ages
Business cultures are made up of folks from very different generations, all of whom bring their own perspectives and preferences and many are not afraid to speak up. This can be a good thing or issues can arise when generations are diametrically opposed.
The workplace might benefit from having people from different generations working together, but this variety also creates issues for managers and HR departments.
Let's explore some of the hurdles faced by HR departments when managing a multigenerational workforce:
1. Competing with side hustles and the gig economy
Both Gen Z and Millennials are known for their entrepreneurial spirit, often having multiple side gigs to supplement their income. This can make it hard for businesses to retain full-time employees, as they could prioritize their own side hustles, or whatever over their day jobs. The allure of making money on their terms, combined with the flexibility that side hustles and the gig economy offer, can be a significant challenge for businesses trying to secure the commitment of younger employees.
2. Loyalty and job-hopping
With a plethora of job opportunities at their fingertips, younger workers like Gen Z and Millennials are more likely to switch jobs frequently. This job-hopping can lead to high turnover rates, costing businesses money, time and resources when hiring and training new employees. Employers must find ways to adapt their retention strategies to accommodate this generational shift in values.
3. Communication skills
While younger employees like Gen Z are tech-savvy, they may lack strong interpersonal communication skills, as they've grown up in a world dominated by digital communication. This can lead to misunderstandings and disconnects with staff members from older generations, particularly when it comes to resolving conflicts or collaborating on projects. It's important for employers to place a high priority on investing in training and development programs that successfully bridge the divide between digital and face-to-face communication. By doing so, they create a harmonious work environment where all team members have the opportunity to flourish.
4. Work-life balance and flexibility
Both Gen Z and Millennials place a high priority on maintaining a healthy work-life balance, often expecting flexible work arrangements and support for their personal lives. Employers need to adjust their policies by providing increased flexibility in work options and fostering a company culture that prioritizes the well-being of their team members.
5. Making use of new technology
Businesses that are trying to compete in the modern digital age might benefit greatly from employing younger generations like Gen Z and Millennials since they are more used to using new technologies than older generations. These workers want their job to be as technologically advanced as their personal life, so businesses must keep up with the newest innovations to attract and retain them.
6. Inclusivity and social responsibility
Younger generations value diversity and inclusivity, expecting their employers to share these values as well. Companies must demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility and prioritize creating a diverse and inclusive work environment to attract and retain younger talent.
By understanding and addressing these challenges presented by a multigenerational workforce, businesses can adapt their strategies to create a more cohesive and productive work environment. At the same time, companies should consider outsourcing marketing efforts to experienced professionals, ensuring that their marketing campaigns are executed effectively while they navigate the complexities of managing a diverse workforce.
Navigating the Post-COVID Work Landscape
The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly changed the way we work. With the widespread adoption of remote work arrangements and increased demand for flexibility, businesses have faced new challenges in managing their teams. Some of the factors contributing to these challenges include:
1. Work-from-home challenges
Some workers have experienced burnout and reduced productivity as a result of the blurring of the borders between their personal and professional lives brought about by remote employment. Lacking a distinct separation between work and personal life can make it challenging for individuals to stave off burnout and reach their full potential at work. Remote employees require support from their employers through flexible working hours and additional measures designed to help them achieve a healthy balance between their professional and personal lives.
2. Anti-work movements and reevaluating work values
The pandemic has fueled anti-work sentiments, with many people questioning the traditional 9-5 work structure and seeking alternative lifestyles. The change in values has contributed to an increasing number of individuals placing their personal well-being above their careers, which makes it harder for companies to sustain a consistent workforce. Employers need to acknowledge this shift in values and adjust their management tactics to meet the evolving expectations of their staff, fostering a work environment that highlights well-being, personal development, and a balanced work-life dynamic.
3. Flaky employees and disruptions in the workplace
The uncertainty surrounding the pandemic has led some workers to become less reliable, causing disruptions in the workplace. Factors such as health concerns, family responsibilities, and the unpredictable nature of the pandemic may contribute to employees' flakiness. During these tough times, it's essential for employers to show empathy and understanding, providing assistance and accommodations to employees who might be facing difficulties in juggling their personal and professional lives.
4. Adapting to new communication channels and collaboration tools
The shift to remote work has also required businesses to adapt their communication strategies and invest in new collaboration tools. It's crucial to make sure all team members are at ease with the tools in use and to keep communication channels open for fostering a united and efficient team. Employers ought to consistently assess the efficacy of their communication tools and processes, making necessary adjustments to guarantee that their employees stay involved and well-informed.
5. Reevaluating recruitment and retention strategies
The post-COVID work landscape has also had a significant impact on recruitment and retention strategies. With employees now placing a higher value on flexibility, work-life balance, and well-being, businesses must reevaluate their approaches to attract and retain talent. This may include offering remote work options, flexible schedules, competitive benefits packages, and opportunities for personal and professional development.
Navigating the post-COVID work landscape can be challenging for businesses, but by understanding and addressing the factors contributing to these challenges, companies can adapt and thrive in this new environment. Choosing the Right Social Media Platforms for Your Franchise
In our modern digital world, social media is crucial for businesses to connect with their audience, boost brand visibility, and foster engagement. However, for franchise owners, choosing platforms that match goals and audience is key. Making the right decisions about which platforms to engage with can significantly impact the success of a franchise’s online marketing efforts.
Understanding Your Target Audience
The journey of choosing the appropriate social media platforms starts with understanding your target audience. Identifying the demographics, interests, and online behaviors of your audience provides invaluable insights. Different social media platforms cater to different age groups and interests. Tailoring your platform choices to your audience ensures that your content reaches the right people, maximizing your marketing efforts.
Evaluating Platform Relevance
Numerous social media platforms exist today, each with distinct features and benefits. Platforms like Facebook offer a wide user base and diverse advertising options. Instagram focuses on visual content, making it ideal for industries that can showcase products or services visually. LinkedIn is a hub for professionals, suitable for B2B interactions. Evaluating the relevance of each platform to your franchise’s offerings and brand identity is essential.
Assessing Business Goals
Defining your franchise’s business goals is crucial in determining which platforms to prioritize. If your aim is brand awareness, visually oriented platforms like Instagram and Pinterest may be more effective. For lead generation, platforms like Facebook and Tiktok with their targeting capabilities could be beneficial. Every social media platform has strengths that align with specific business objectives, so choosing platforms that align with your goals is key.
Considering Content Types
Different platforms favor different content types. Instagram thrives on eye-catching visuals, while Twitter demands concise and engaging text. Understanding the content types that resonate well with each platform ensures your messaging is not only seen but also appreciated by your audience.
Platform Popularity and Trends
Staying updated with the popularity and trends of social media platforms is important. Some platforms experience surges in user engagement due to emerging trends. For instance, TikTok’s explosive growth has shown the potential for short-form video content. Being aware of such trends helps franchises leverage platforms at the right time, connecting with their audience through relevant and trending content.
Resource Allocation and Management
Managing social media accounts can be resource-intensive. Each platform demands time and effort to create, curate, and engage with content. It’s essential to evaluate your franchise’s capacity to manage multiple platforms effectively. Choosing a few platforms and managing them well can yield better results than spreading resources thin across numerous platforms.
Building a Multi-Platform Strategy
While selecting one or two primary platforms is advisable, a multi-platform strategy can provide comprehensive coverage. Consistency in branding and messaging across platforms maintains a coherent brand identity. Integrating platforms allows you to leverage the strengths of each, offering a diverse content experience for your audience.
