Name: Scarecrow
Debut: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
We are in the midst of September, and that is Scarecrow Season! This is the time of year where the scarecrows start to become self-aware! If you want to befriend a scarecrow, now is the time to enter your local cornfields and strike up a conversation about Grains! Of course, there is a limited time frame to do this. In October, the scarecrows will begin to believe everything the crows have been whispering to them, and decide to jump down from their posts and chase farmers with a scythe. I love autumn!
The dashing red-clothed scarecrow heading this post isn't just any effigy. In fact, you know him! You know him very well.
Does this fellow look familiar to you? This is Super Mario, from Super Mario Games on The Nintendo. What's he doing being a scarecrow? It's not his fault! It was a weird dog thing!
This is Belome, the weird dog thing, and he has some tricks up his metaphorical sleeve, my favorite of which is the ability to turn anyone into a scarecrow. He does this using a spell called S'crow Funk, a name I adore because it sounds like the COOL way of referring to scarecrows. The hip young farmers don't have time for any extraneous syllables! They see a scarecrow and say something like "Check out that s'crow, Tom!" But ol' Farmer Tom doesn't like the name shortening, because he loves scaring crows, more than he loves protecting his crops. He hates crows so much. I don't like that about him.
S'crow Funk is a real deal magic spell, with a rhyming incantation! It goes like this:
Stick for a body Head full of straw Give me a scarecrow, rah rah RAH!
Due to the "funk" in the name, I must assume this rhyme is accompanied by a funky beat. You can try invoking this yourself, but before you do, be courteous. Make sure your victim is okay with being made unable to attack normally, and only able to use magic attacks. Unless you're evil, in which case you will probably do it anyway. But I hope you're not evil. That would be Problematic!
Name: Scarecrow
Debut: Super Mario Odyssey
Look! Another scarecrow! I'm really sorry if any crows are reading this post. But THIS scarecrow is fresh and 3D! And this one is not Mario.
No, still not Mario, even with his hat! If Mario throws Cappy onto a scarecrow, Cappy will stay on its head, and activate some sort of new platforming challenge. This is because if it weren't for the scarecrow, crows would eat all of the platforming challenges, and then there would be none for us to eat! Without scarecrows we would die!

Yes I would like to see some in hats and time stuff,,, and also maybe an explanation of what a hat in time is I know barely anything about it
Firstly, A Hat in Time is a 3D collectathon platformer by indie studio Gears for Breakfast. It stars Hat Kid (and, if you’re playing two-player, Bow Kid) who has to collect magical hourglasses called Time Pieces, which are the fuel for her spaceship, so that she can go home. Her enemy is Mustache Girl, a precocious rebel with a strong sense of justice, who is collecting Time Pieces for her own nefarious purposes—to deal with anyone she deems a “bad guy”.
Basically, the idea behind IHAT that it’s a crossover AU between In Stars and Time and A Hat in Time, with AHIT characters in ISAT. The idea came from the similarity in names, hence the title In Hats and Time. Up until now, it’s just been a couple art wips, but now, I’m gonna write some stuff, so buckle up.
Picture this. Siffrin and Isabeau, lying down in the field, stargazing. It’s Act 4 (because that’s as far as I’ve gotten so far). Isabeau excitedly tells Siffrin to look—a shooting star! Oddly, he interrupted them, unlike every other time. As usual, Siffrin doesn’t wanna turn away. But the script calls for it, so they do—and they freeze. Burning across the sky is a massive ball of fire. Way too big to be a shooting star. And it’s getting bigger.
Meanwhile, on board the Spaceship (Mk. 14 Custom), Hat Kid is in a panic. There was some sort of distortion, the ship went haywire, and now she’s crashing through the atmosphere of an unknown planet. Bow Kid disappeared somewhere, which sucks because she would’ve been a big help right now. The computer is screaming something about “escape pod ejected” as she desperately pulls back on the controls. She manages to bring the ship up, but not enough to avoid crashing. She blacks out.
Siffrin is shook. Completely shook. Something new happened. New things aren’t supposed to happen. He doesn’t know what to do when new things happen. He blanks on all his lines when Bonnie, Mirabelle, and Odile show up. Nothing goes right.
That night, he can’t sleep. Can’t even pretend to sleep. So he sneaks out and goes to the banana peel. The meteor, or whatever it was, was weird. But it’s just a one-off. An outlier. If it keeps happening, then something’s gone wrong, but if it doesn’t happen again, then it’s okay. So he loops back to that morning. No harm, no foul.
So yeah! That’s basically how it starts. I’ll be posting more stuff as I write it, probably not in chronological order, but I’m also very worried that I’ll make a fool of myself by not knowing all the ISAT lore, so it’ll probably be slow until I beat the game.
(Edit: I put “as usual” twice, so I removed the second one. It was past midnight and I was tired. Don’t judge me.)

i have lot of questionssss! But I'll shorten it so you can read it easier!
How did you get idea of this au? I absolutely love your art style and your au!
2. When did you start drawing your current au?
3. Did you play A Hat in Time and got inspired by this game that you made your own current au?
Aw thank you very much for the sweet words!! I always loved ocean themed stuff, so eventually I got the idea for the slugkids. It kinda just spiraled from there! I always wanted to try and make an AU, this is my first time making a proper one and I'm having fun :D
Unfortunately I have not actually played a hat in time because I can only play games on my laptop, which would prpbably explode if I tried loading a 3D platformer
also I am bad at games 😔 like genuinely I would not get past mafia boss fr
I got to know ahit through youtuber merg's playthrough of it, so I still know what happens in the game (I also probably went through the entire ahit wiki twice at this point hahah)
I suppose you can call it being inspired! I wish I could explain the thought process behind my au a bit better, but I have no idea how to explain it in words that make sense <:) the best I can describe how I think up stuff is just
Like this
#ask#I love getting inspiration from the real world so some of the ideas are from me going on a wikipedia spree#there's literally so many cool ocean creatures to get inspired from!#but most of it is just me going wheee with the brainstorming#ahit#a hat under waters#ahuw

uh hello if sould awkward with the way I type it's because I have ridiculous social anxiety but I wanted to recommend a peice of media that I personally really enjoy that has 0 romantic relationships (except 1 but I'll elaborate on that in a minute)
It's a silly little 3d platformer game called A Hat in Time and you play as an alien named Hat Kid who is trying to get her spaceship fuel back from a wacky cast of characters who all want to kill her (until you befriend them)
I Don't want to spoil the big plot twist of the 3rd area but the only romantic relationship in the game is a long dead incredibly possessive toxic relationship that split up WAAYYYY before the events of the game take place (I mean there's a reason that forest is haunted and it's the literal definition of the phrase "till death do us part") it's played pretty serious and is used in the context of intensifying horror themes but nothing is explicit or would set off any triggers that anyone might have
(this is just a bit of a heads up or warning because it's there and it's definitely the darkest thing the game features other than that it's smooth sailing)
Once again I'm sorry if the way I write is weird I'm autistic so I have a hard time typing what I'm trying to say sometimes and I have a really bad way of phrasing things but I hope I managed to phrase everything correctly
It's not weird at all, you're all good!! Honestly A Hat In Time has been on my to-check-out list for way too long and you're certainly making a good case for it, I don't know all that much about it 👀
...Also not gonna lie it's a thing I like about a lot of video games overall, unless they're explicitly about romance, romance seems to tend to creep its way a bit less into it than in movies or series 🙈 So I always appreciate that!
#either way thank you so much for the recommendation i'll def keep it in mind^^#a hat in time#rep recommendations#possibly?#aromantic#anon

I was just wondering, have you heard of this game called A Hat in Time? It's a really fun and cute 3D platformer game, kind of like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie. And it has one character who, if you like Death, I think you'll really like.
Ah yes, how could I forget Snatcher? That game was so cute, except for Vanessa’s stupid castle ugh that level scared the hell out of me when I first played it.

tell me about Fez, please, im looking through your blog and like, i am intrigued
please click read more for an unskippable cutscene
ALRIGHT SO.
FEZ is an indie game created by a (now hated on the internet) guy called Phil Fish. If you wanna find out why he's hated do your own research this isn't about him it's about his videogame
It came out on april 13th of 2012 (yes. homestuck day. i know), and it sold over a million copies by the end of 2013. I've tried finding how many copies have been sold up to this day in total but didn't find anything, but the general gist is that it was pretty much an instant hit, and people absolutely loved it, working together to solve its intricate puzzles even to this day. Yes, there are mysteries hidden in here that an entire community of dedicated fans still hasn't found the solution to 11 years later
(tiny warning here, do not play this game if you have motion sickness or are severely affected by rapidly changing images, there are whole areas that are a doozy to play through. Please stay safe!)
Gameplay
Fez has a singular core mechanic that remains unchanging throughout the entire course of the game, and that is the ability to change perspectives
this is what the game looks like, a 2d pixelated landscape with tons of beautiful colors
but.
this is what the game also looks like
that's right, baby, this shit's actually in 3d
you use this change of perspective nonstop throughout your adventure, to cross gaps like demonstrated in the gif, or to simply access places you couldn't in that current perspective. There are other tiny mechanics that get added, like invisible platforms, crates and buttons, bombs, timed platforms that disappear... they add a bit of flavor, but the main mechanic is always there
There's also a really big emphasis on puzzles towards the latter half of the game, but I'll get more into it later
Story motivations
Your name is Gomez, you are a tiny little guy living in a cozy 2d village that you have never ever left. One day, an old man named Geezer sends you a letter asking you to climb to the top of the village. There, a giant fucking cube appears outta nowhere, teleports you to a satanic ritual, then to the vaccum of space, speaks to you in a strange language you cannot understand, and gives you a free hat. Oh and also he explodes or something
After you're given the hat, the fez, you discover that the world is actually in 3d, and you can now change perspectives. You unlock the core mechanic
After that, you wake up in your room with the fez still on your head, and a being in 4d called Dot is sent from who knows where to tell you that the cube that gave you the hat is called Hexahedron, is actually technically kinda god, and you fucking killed him. Now, your mission is to pick up its 64 pieces and reconstruct him
You see all those tiny golden cubes? You have to collect 8 of them to make a bigger cube, and you need to collect 32 of those
Now hold on, I hear you ask, didn't you just say that you need to collect 64 pieces? Why are you changing your mind and saying 32?
Because, my dear friend, there is another type of cube that you have to also collect
These are called anticubes. Y'know, "a negative for every positive" type of stuff. You have to also collect 32 of those
The main difference between an anticube and a normal cube is that they aren't broken into 8 pieces, when you find one it'll be whole. You can also sometimes encounter full golden cubes btw, but they're rarer than its normal tiny pieces that you collect. Another main difference is that these cubes are much, much harder to find, and I'll go into detail in the next section
There's also this one hub area, with four doors that will only open once you have enough cubes (anticubes also count)
Once you open the door with 16 cubes, you'll enter this one town filled with people that aren't quite like you. In there there's yet another door that will open when you get 32 cubes, so get to gathering motherfucker, you got a long way ahead of you
Puzzles (anticube edition)
When you collect that first anti cube, there is no going back. The floodgates have opened and you are now too deep in. You know too much. You must see this to the very end, for better and especially for the worse
The puzzles in fez are actually surprisingly varied when it comes to difficulty and accessibility. Most likely, the first anticube you'll find will be in this one room. You'll scan the qr code and do the instructions it says, and then the horror of your new life will begin
But this is just the tip of the iceberg, because BOY OH BOY are anticubes convoluted to find in some cases
Sometimes you'll get them by solving relatively easy puzzles, like this one
others will require a bit more thinking, like this one
and then we have the hardest ones where you'll have to learn how to read words, numbers, and commands in the FEZ language
and these arent even the hardest bullshit puzzles the game will pull at you. it gets worse. it gets so much worse
Game ending
Surprisingly enough, you can get a game ending with just 32 cubes. In fact, it is literally impossible to get the 64 cube ending without the 32 cube one unless you have outside help, you know the answer to all puzzles, or you somehow get extremely lucky in a very specific number of rooms
Behind the 32 cube door there's a giant gate that, and I shit you not, teleports you into fucking space
Aliens are canon in the fez lore and they look like squids
Once you reach the top of the alien temple fucking thing, you enter an eye(?) and there you meet the shell of god, the Hexahedron. Since you haven't gathered all 64 cubes, it fails to reconstruct, and it breaks down. This part is pretty dangerous for people with epilepsy, by the way, as there's rapidly changing black and white colors. The 64 cube ending is a bit easier in the eyes, but yeah, just a heads up
In the 32 cube ending, you get sent back home, and you see how the town gets more and more pixelated. Then you see a weird sequence that's like those videos of people really zooming in into things and you see the particles and microscopic stuff?? idk. and then you see Gomez playing the drums :D
After that, you wake up in your room, still with your Fez, and the same sequence at the start of the game plays out. You go to the top of the village, Geezer summons a giant fucking cube, you meet god, but instead of getting another fez, you get cool glasses, that allow you to finally solve a batch of puzzles you couldn't see before and you can finally gather the last anticubes
In the 64 cube ending, the Hexahedron reforms correctly, and instead of zooming in, it zooms out. You see that your world is a tiny cube next to many tiny cubes, and then those tiny cubes form a 4d entity that looks just like Dot, and then those many Dots next to eachother zoom out until they're nothing but static, and then it looks like a tv is turned off, and then the credits roll
They're both very strange endings, and definitely not what a lot of players expected or wanted, but what can you do
Puzzles (hell edition)
NOW.
You thought that was the end?
You thought you could simply walk away scot free?
You thought that this game had no more last "fuck you"s up in its arse?
You thought fucking wrong
Because you know that something's not right
Because you're in too deep
You've played this far. You've scrolled this far.
You have to see how this ends
You have to tie up the last loose ends
You see this? This is the game's map. It actually has a really clever design! Not only are the icons for the areas cubes, but you can also change perspectives like how you do in-game! Pretty cool, right? There are also some small indicators you can see on the bottom left. They mark if you've left any cubes, bits, treasures, or locked doors. They also mark any secrets you might have left! And they turn golden once you've found everything there is in that room, including secrets
If you were normal (let's imagine that for a bit, okay?) and you got the 64 cube ending, that's it, right? You've gathered every cube, you've gathered every map (you need them to get all cubes), you've gotten every key and opened every locked door, that should be it, right? You have everything the game asked you to have, so the whole map should be golden, right?
...right?
No! :D you fucking fool, you poor summer child
In fact, there are three rooms left. Three rooms left with a secret symbol next to them, and one other special room
First, we'll talk about the special room
Once you gather 64 cubes, you'll be able to open a door hidden on an unsuspecting island and access this one special room
kinda weird, right? It has a tileset that appears nowhere else in the game, same with its background. There's also a strange transparent heart over it? Strange
Now, the three ungolden rooms
First, the observatory, the room with the easiest puzzle, at least in comparison with the other two
Second, you have whatever the fuck this is. In order to solve this one, you HAVE to know the Fez language, no ifs or buts. Not only that, but there's a high chance that you were reading the language the wrong way, so in order to have the remote chance to solve this mf you'll have to git gud and realise the error of your ways
And last, but definitely not least
The most infamous room in the entire game aside from maybe the heart room previously shown
This cunt
These three are the hardest challenges the game has to offer, no exaggeration. And also, the first two rooms can be solved at any point of your adventure, but for the third one you HAVE to have completed the 32 cube ending, no workarounds
Now, how to solve them?
If you go to the observatory at night, you'll notice two red blinking stars in the corner. They're speaking in binary code, with one being 1 and the other being 0. Then, that binary has to be translated into a buncha diff languages to be decoded, and once you're done you'll be left with a set of commands that you'll enter in the observatory to get a special red cube that not even Dot, the motherfucker in 4 dimensions that knows things beyond our comprehension, knows what it is
For the second room in fez language, you'll need to answer a question with the cubes provided to you. It's a weird thing where you have to mix this word with the name of the company who made the game, I don't know man. Once you've answered you'll get the second red cube
And now, the third room
Commonly denominated the black monolith room
Why is there no black monolith?
Because you have to make it appear
First, you have to get this burnt map
Behind it, there's a string of code that translates into commands
You need to get into the room, and use the special ability given to you in the 32 cube ending: first perspective mode
You'll have to stand in the tiny square inside this infinity symbol thing that doesn't have a line in it (basically, not the one the screenshot is looking at lol), and then you'll have to do the commands
Once you do it, the black monolith will appear
Okay, you did it
You put the code correctly
Now what?
This isn't a collectable. This isn't a red cube. This doesn't do anything. What is this? How do I solve this puzzle
You wanna know the answer?
Who fucking knows
No one knows the answer to this. No one knows how to solve this. The community solved this a week after launch by bruteforcing it. I shit you not they made a bot that spewed random fez inputs and people just tried them until they got the correct solution
No one knows how it's meant to be solved. To this day, people still go on the r/fez subreddit to give their theories on what the intended solution was meant to be
They have tried everything
The position of the candles, the boiler room, some other random ass rooms that look remotely similar to the black monolith room, a random shower room, it somehow being on a book in the game that's just filled with haikus??, some bullshittery mobius strip mental gymnastics, the other half of the code being in an abandoned airport in Arizona...
...whatever the fuck this is...
by far the most known theory was the release date theory
but that got disproven by one of the devs a few years ago
but anyways, we've already gone through insanity for long enough, it's time to be normal now
Once you've gathered all of the red pieces, they will appear in the heart room
that's it
we're done
.
..
...
....almost
there's a secret code
one that was actually intended to be datamined for once lmao
If you look at certain artifacts in the menu and you rotate them a certain way in a certain order, the heart will vanish and the screen will turn white
you'll be sent back to the menu, and if you load that save file and go back into the temple...
there will be nothing waiting for you there
that, my friend, is the true end of Fez
You wanted to know too much, you wanted to learn everything, to the point of wanting to tear open a creation that took blood, sweat, tears, and five years to complete. And now there is nothing. You ignored the game's boundaries of only wanting to let you know this much, and now the game is empty, the love is gone, and there is nothing left for you here
You can leave now, I hope you're satisfied
#ask#ace#long post#fez#fez videogame#fez game#i went very overboard lol#i love this game so much man#fez video game#heho i hope you enjoyed this lighthearted ramble#i promise you it could be worse#nathan's notes

Do you think you could possibly summarise what was said in the Clark Stacey interview if you don't mind? I'm struggling to follow and understand it without subtitles sadly
NO SAME. listening to the ajc segment (especially the latter half) was super difficult with the loud music overlaying it and the instagram video player not having a rewind feature. so.... i sat down and transcribed it! there might be some "uh's" and "um's" i missed near the end, but it should be mostly accurate to everything he said. read it below the cut!
I'm Clark Stacey, I'm the, uh, ceo of Wildworks, and, uh, I'm, uh… Gosh, what would my relationship t- to Animal Jam be? Uh, benevolent overlord? I guess? Maybe? Do people have questions about Classic? Really? [laughs] I saw your thread, and it's seemed like classic players are uh- are very active and have a lot that they want to know. Um, well let me- let me cover a couple of things, I think the last time that you and I talked, we talked about some of the difficulties with adding content to classic and… Just the way It's put together. But, very quickly for those who are- are not familiar, um, uh- Classic was a browser-based flash game, uh, flash is no longer supported by browsers, and is generally frowned upon by the big tech companies out there. So the only way to continue running Classic on your desktop computer, is to put it in this software wrapper called Electron, and Electron basically, uh, contains a mini web browser in it, and it runs… Animal Jam in a contained web browser environment on your computer. Uh, it- it kind of slows some of the performance down, it's not a great solution, but it's uh, it enables um, us to continue playing it. It-it compounds the difficulty of putting new stuff in Classic, because for… For flash games, and the way that we made Classic, was we would take 3D models of animals, and characters, and then we would render out 2D animation frames, um, and the reason that we did that, because flash is a 2D uh, animation program, but uh- The reason we did that is because we can create this kind of cool 3D look to the characters, um, but then have them- have our software spit out uh, 2D frames. So that means that for every item… Thousands upon thousands of items that is in Animal Jam, every hat or scarf or anything else, it has been… Placed and situated on every animal in the game, and frames have been rendered out for the animation of that animal, with that scarf, in that color, uh, for every single item in the game.
It means if there are hundreds of thousands of frames of animation, and going and adding things, or changing anything, is just a super labor intensive process. Now that- that's not to say new content can't be added, I think that more explains the- the difficulty or challenge in bringing AJ classic to a new platform, like WEBGL. And… Y'know, recreating i-it as a browser based game. Um, because… Essentially, all of that… Work, would have to be redone, rerendered, uhh, to be optimized for- for that platform. Um, and that's a massive undertaking. Um, now t-the possibility of us undertaking that massive thing, uh, went up considerably when were acquired by Nazara last uh, what's August, September? Um, because one of the benefits of being part of the Nazara network, is y'know, they have a tremendous resources with uh, uhh, with animators and artists, um based in India and abroad, and they can bring to bear um, y'know, an army that we can't. We're um, we're a much smaller company, and uh, maintaining just what we're doing is uh, kinda keeps our dance card pretty full. Um, so… Taking… Creating the Animal Jam experience that uhhh, is drawn heavily from Classic, may not be a direct port of everything in Classic, but does extend uh, the Classic experience, is on the Wildworks roadmap, there is WEBGL research that we're doing that's ongoing there, uh, I have played level demos of Animal… Animal Jam y'know, the… What you would recognize as kinda a- Y'know, Jamaa Township and some core areas in Animal Jam, running in WEBGL, and it's awesome. Um, that, the- still a long, long way away from uh, from a product that we can put out. Uh, but it is um, y'know, it's not something that we've taken our eyes off of, we're certainly… Y'know, our commitment to Classic itself has not changed. Um, and I will say… That uhhh, there is… Something pretty exciting and new coming to Classic very soon, um, I think that it will be a…. Uh, a blast from the past, for uh, for some of our older Classic players, but, uh, but kind of remade for- for this generation. And I'm- I'm excited for people t- to see it and start talking about it. I think they'd be pretty psyched.
20 questions in your Instagram thread about Classic, so that's… That's basically everything I know, you now know everything I know, and it's perfectly safe, it's not going anywhere, uh, there's some technical housekeeping thats probably overdue there, uh, particularly rebuilding the installer, which bugs me every time I look at it. Uh, but it- no, we're not, we're not taking it down, it's not going anywhere.

A Humans-B-Gone Dream
Last night I dreamed I was… somewhere in Formicosa. At least I think I was. I know it was purple, and there were macrovolutes there, though at this point I don’t remember what kinds. They might not even have been real insects or arachnids, maybe just mishmashes of random bug parts that my subconscious put together like Frankenstein’s monster. I think one of them might have been bright red.
I’m not sure if any of them saw me- I was up high on top of something, probably a plant. The scenery reminded me of a 3D platformer game, maybe sort of like the Kelp Forest from SpongeBob: Battle For Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated, but without the water. Or… maybe it was like Sub-Con from A Hat in Time? Or maybe the Forbidden Woods from Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Regardless, it felt like I was in a 3D platformer game, and I was afraid to come down from my perch because I didn’t want to “aggro” anyone. (Also, I must note that I had no PPE on here, just my pajamas.)
I don’t remember when or how the scene changed, but I went on Tumblr and saw that you’d posted another spider character who’d appear in the next episode of Humans-B-Gone. He was roughly the same shape as Rose, only brown, except for his four front legs which were orange or beige, had no joints, and wiggled like tentacles. And unlike Rose, who’s afraid of humans, this spider ATE humans! And yes, I’m pretty sure other macrovolutes thought he was weird for it.
I think the scene went back to on top of the plant, and I was nervous that Mr. Man-Eating Tentacle Spider would find me, but then the scene changed to the inside of a shed or log cabin of sorts, that had beds inside, but no windows or doors. Some guy in front of me told me that I and the other people in there with us (human people, that is) weren’t allowed to leave, because I’m guessing he thought it wasn’t safe outside. Then a door, or rather a door-shaped hole, appeared behind him to his left while he was talking, and I snuck outside. Outside the shed it was grassy, with some more giant kelp-like plants scattered around, and I found a glass wall that I could climb up the plants to reach the top of.
Over the glass wall was an eye on a blue stalk that I climbed up the plants to get a better look at. It didn’t look like an insect or arachnid’s eye, just a googly eye. When it looked back at me, I heard Sophodra’s voice say “This is the kind of interaction I love to see!” I don’t remember what else she said, and I didn’t see her, but I was a little nervous that she might come back from wherever she’d wandered off to and stare at me with those big creepy mantis eyes.
Oh, wait, I just remembered, she did. She wasn’t quite as big as she was supposed to be, though. I reached over the glass to touch her face and my finger left a trail of grease on it, which she was not happy about, so she scolded me and left.
As you can see, my subconscious got a lot of things about HBG wrong. Sophodra even called me a gub, which she doesn’t do because she doesn’t like that term. Maybe my subconscious just isn’t used to making me dream about bugs that aren’t hostile.
(submitted by @soft-cookie-aka-aquadrop--hope it’s okay to post!)
Love that people are having dreams about HBG! Very fun details in this. Imagining the tentacle spider being someone Rose would be very awkward to be in the same room with.
Anyway, Sophodra just gets excited when she sees humans interacting with the blue googly eye beast and forgets her manners and also vocabulary

Phantom's Finished: Super Mario Odyssey (Replay)
On one random evening, I was chilling in call with @dayofpi as we gushed about Mario. Eventually it lead to me grabbing my Artbook of the game this post is about and adoring all the ideas and missed potential of the game, to the point for a few months I genuinely wondered if I might rank the game lower than I used to.
This thought lingered within me until I decided to finally start an important replaythrough of the game, and here's what I think...
Upon booting it up, I already felt an endearing familiarity to what a 14 year old Phantom felt in 2017. I wanted to enjoy this game mostly for what it is and not what it wasn't. Super Mario Odyssey is still one of the best 3D platformers of all time that is like a playbox of fun left right and centre.
Sonic: Frontiers is often compared to Breath of the Wild when I couldn't agree less. With the mini platforming and challenges, I would absolutely compare it more to Odyssey in that regard. Before I state what I say, let it be known that I really enjoy Frontiers okay? Okay!
Sonic Frontiers wishes it was Odyssey when it comes to it bitesize challenges, as they almost always serve for strong level design in enclosed or open areas that consistently interconnects. Sonic Frontiers has a lot of mindless points to its bitesize elements of "press/hold button". That's what Odyssey gets right, the constant thrill of platforming within the sandbox level design and the freedom of how different of an order everyone's experience can be. You can play the main story moons, or during that grab side moons, challenges and items.
Gameplay:
If there is one thing that always pulls me back into this game, it's gameplay. Odyssey is the perfect example for everything working around its base gameplay as a perfect core, that being the hat throw. the hat throw is integral to why moving as Mario in this game is so responsive and fun to master. Dive into the hat for horizontal air movement, use it to collect coins as you continue on your path, capture a vast selections of enemies and objects for a quick yet responsive gameplay change.
Speaking of, I love how the captures have a snappy switch up of gameplay whilst always limiting controls to two buttons for easy pickup for how many different things Mario can utilise. Everything is super responsive and it feels beautiful to experience the loop of this game. Every playthrough feels different due to how you can go for different moons each time, experiment with where I go and even get places I didn't know I could ahead of time! Its my favourite controls platformer in 3D (celeste being my fav 2D platformer controls)
However, I do feel the game sometimes lacks a bit in level design. A lot of the time it's really good! Sub-Sections are very good whereas I feel the Sandbox areas of the Kingdoms are inconsistent. My biggest issue is they often lack a level of cohesion with the rest of the world (New Donk especially is guilty of this) and I wish they covered a wider area a lot of the time as with Mario's moveset it is so quick to get through. I feel the best Kingdoms are ones like the Wooded Kingdom where there's multiple paths, elevation and it stretches a wide variety. New Donk for example does have that elevation but it's so simple to get up there it just kinda exists? I wish there was more interesting areas within New Donk to play around as it isn't as fun on replay.
Then there's the few Kingdoms that SCREAM missed potential with the Cloud Kingdom and the Ruined Kingdom. These two are literally just for a single boss and nothing else in the overworld, which is super disappointing with two really cool aesthetics, especially with Ruined Kingdom's unique artstyle.
Artstyle:
This is one of the trickiest part of the game to talk about. Because I both love it and have qualms with it for a lot of reasons...
Firstly though, this game has an insane variety of styles, setpieces and colours! From Bonnetons Nightmare Before Christmas inspiration to Bowsers Kingdom of Japanese traditional samurai aesthetic, the game constantly throws different visuals upon entering any new world. Odyssey thrives on this idea of different cultures and parts of the world for contrasting artstyles and it really works!
However... I feel this also is where my biggest criticism for the game lies. It's that these artstyles don't push themselves far enough when they could contrast even more! Bonneton for example, it has a fun Halloween vibe but why couldn't they have pushed that with the shapes of the environment being crooked and twisted and maybe have the shadows be sharper and stylised? That's what I mean, the styles still all fit into a mold they don't break out of that I wish the game did a lot more
And here comes the big one: New Donk City! This is where the game really conflicts me with its artstyle, as it tries to contrast in such a way that feels unnatural and uncanny. The realistic humans are extremely unnecessary and the artbook shows many better solutions they had in mind. The colours of this world are also lacking quite strongly which again the art book showed a bright bold bustling city with a lot of nods to the series. It feels they wanted this to be the contextualised version of Mario's origin home which makes sense when you consider all the donkey kong references and the fact Pauline is there!! This is considered the iconic local in the game when for me it feels like the one that could've been filled with beautiful fanservice and nostalgic feel. I don't like using the artbook as criticism but for New Donk City I feel it's kinda necessary due to how they clearly had a vision that wasn't able to happen and its one of this games biggest letdowns.
Other:
There's a lot I wish to get into that aren't as extensive due to how much I have to say, so it all goes into this last section!
Starting off with music, which is weird to me. There's a lot of really good music in this game! From Cascade Kingdom to the transition into the tech part of the Wooded Kingdom. However there's a lot of music that is just, average? A lot of music that isn't bad but nothing memorable, which isn't something I can say about most Mario Games' OST. There's also a lot of 8-Bit versions of music in this game which I really enjoy! But I do understand opinions that they should've used a better NES sound chip for it as it doesn't feel as perfect as it could be.
Next up is story and animation! Easily my favourite animation in a mario game with so much squash and stretch the recently released Mario Wonder seems to emphasise even more! I love Bowser and Mario's animation, and enemy animations are amazing too. However I feel characters like Peach could've had more stylised animation. The story itself is good! It's practically the perfect conclusion to the Peach being Kidnapped Saga, a full on wedding where Bowser takes it way too far. Obviously I don't like damsel Peach as she's a lot better when she's a participating role. However, in the context of her being a damsel this is her best one as she is actively seen throughout the game whilst standing her ground at the very end. I love how she doesn't reciprocate Bowser or Mario's feelings whilst Mario and Bowser have an amazing dynamic this game.
My favourite element of this games story is how it feels like an amazing conclusion to the traditional Mario story, whilst now we're getting new stories with Wonder, Origami King and even Peach getting her own tale. Mario stories don't need to be huge but it's important it still fits the themes and adds fun characterisation to them, alongside giving all of them amazing designs... speaking of
COSTUMES! Mario gets loads of cosmetics in this game through coins, giving them a purpose whilst having a very fun way to have different looks and fanservice. You can have a top hat fancy look fitting Cap Kingdom or a Samurai costume to befit the Bowser Kingdom. Then there's cool costumes that are just their own idea like skeleton, zombie or even underwear Mario! They range from cool, cute to gender and funny with so much to work with. I love this element of odyssey a lot, its one of my favourite things to do especially after I've beaten the game to run about it fun combinations (I love the Sunshine outfit)
Lastly is the postgame! A really fun fanservice Kingdom with the Mushroom Kingdom, and whilst I still criticise the level design cohesion like before, I still think this is an amazing world with a lot of fun to be had, alongside a really fun final level that brought me to tears with Cappys final like
"Thank you, Mario. For letting me walk a mile on your head."
.
This game is beautiful, I have my qualms but its still my favourite 3D Platformer of all time 💙

Tbh I’m not sure how popular each of these are on tumblr, but I’ll throw in my own recommendations as well.
Ib- One of my favorite games! A girl gets lost in an art gallery and finds all of the other people have disappeared, then tries to find her way out. (A freeware version does exist but I linked to the updated version on steam) There are jumpscares, but they’re what I’d call “minor” (less in your face than the archetypal jumpscare) Good story imo, and has multiple endings.
Smile For Me- interesting point and click adjacent game, definitely has some unsettling vibes at some points, but iirc no jumpscares. Multiple endings, and imo a neat story.
Lobotomy Corporation- definitely a horror game, also a MANAGEMENT game, which might not be for everyone, but has an excellent story. Gets dark- definitely look up content warnings. (Also has sequels in Library of Ruina and Limbus Company)
Sayonara Wild Hearts- This is not horror. It’s also plot light. However it’s an INCREDIBLY fun rhythm game, so anyone who’s been looking for one of those may want to give it a shot.
Thomas Was Alone- Not what I’d call “horror” either, but more.. existential. 2D platformer, follows some quadrilaterals on their grand journey through the world.
A Hat In Time- It has one horror-adjacent area, but I’m recommending it for being a solid 3D platformer with fun characters. Should note that some of the levels may be difficult for people who have sensitivity to flashing lights (I’m specifically thinking of the final one, but there may be others bc I’m not that sensitive usually.)
(Seconding the recommendations for OFF and OneShot, also!)
YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY!
#for reference#I am aware of several other potentially interesting indie games but I haven’t beaten them yet so I can’t rec them myself ;;

2021 Game of the Year Countdown #1: A Hat in Time By: Gears for Breakfast Nintendo Switch, 2019
The best peckin’ 3D platformer I’ve ever played.
I was only vaguely aware of this game, thanks to @boner-taunt’s wife playing it when we were all roommates, and @doktorpeace praising it extensively, but I never looked into it on my own back then. I’ve been playing a ton of RPGs over the past few years, so I was looking for a good platformer and thought I should try this one. The developers describe it as a collectathon akin to Banjo-Kazooie, and I have to disagree to a certain extent. That is actually an aspect of the old N64 platformers by Rare that I really disliked. There are definitely items to look for in A Hat in Time, but I always felt that the Rare games made item collection time consuming to expand the game’s playtime at best, or boring and pointless at worst. A Hat in Time never feels this way.
The smooth gameplay is fun and easy to pick up. It’s as simple as Super Mario 64 and I think that is what made it such a fast favorite. It really is an easy game to play, which can be deceiving for how difficult some of the later levels, and especially the DLC challenges, can be. But that is what makes a game great: when it can be played and enjoyed by all skill levels.
The music is so bright and cheerful, but can also have heart-racing beats as well. One of my all-time favorite boss battles comes against an enemy known as Snatcher, with a song called “Your Contract has Expired.” It really pumps you up for what is a really fun, exciting, and visually impressive boss fight.
Other tracks, like “Train Rush,” will cause your anxiety to overflow, even if you’re just listening at work or something. Maybe don’t listen to this while driving. And another favorite is “Mafia Town Is Asleep” because of how charming and soft it sounds.
In addition to the fun gameplay and great music, you get a beautiful and colorful game. The characters are fun and vibrant, with big personalities and cute designs. There are so many jokes and references hidden throughout, I couldn’t even try to list them all here. But I will say I love the movie posters in one of the levels you play, as well as how Hat Kid has various idle poses throughout the game. She holds up her thumb and finger like she’s 007 when you sneak into a movie studio at night (another great track btw), and snaps to attention like a good little sailor when you’re helping the captain of a cruise ship. The little things like that, which have no bearing on the gameplay or anything, really show how much care the developers put into this.
Also, check out the fake movie poster you can get from one of the levels!!
While I already talked about the music, I have to really break down a part of the final boss fight because it is an amazing piece. The track is called “You Are All Bad Guys,” but I’d like to highlight a few specific parts. At the start of the track (timestamp here), it starts out very frantic as the boss unleashes a ton of attacks that you can barely avoid, and the high energy and tempo is really exciting. But, my favorite part of the track comes a bit later, at 3:02. I find a lot of symbolism in this part of the song, as a solo piano comes to the forefront and plays the melody of the battle tune. It’s immediately followed by a synthesizer playing the same tune, as a sort of musical response. Then, they both play together as a sign of unity. This reflects some of the things going on in the final battle, and I find it really beautiful, as cheesy as that sounds. I hope you can play the game for yourself and hear it as it’s meant to be.
So go try A Hat in Time. It’s my favorite 3D platformer of all time and the best game I played in 2021.

Match up No. 13
glasses-and-bandana-s hat gefragt:
Hi, I was wondering if I could ask you for a match up if you don't mind? 👉👈
My name is Nille, I'm 20, bi and I use she/they pronouns. I'm a college student in 3D animation 😊 I'm a pretty passionate person and hiding my emotions is not smth I'm good at or like doing for that matter. Aside from that, I try to be more laid back and relaxed. Being the mom friend, putting myself aside and stressing over everything for 6 years was enough for me 😅😂 I'm naturally curious and I try my best to be kind and helpful.
I like learning languages, all art forms (making and history), traveling and baking. I am a MASSIVE movie nerd, especially when it comes to animation.
I don't like my dad, feeling lonely, being underestimated and the snob mentality we have towards animation in the West (I can and will fight ppl over it).
As for a short physical description: I'm 1m69, have an hourglass figure and I'm as pale as a sheet of paper. My hair is a dark brown pixie cut and my eyes are green/grey. Oh and dem freckles lol.
Thank you a lot for your time and energy. Please take your time (not just with this request, but with all of them), your health goes first 💕 Take care and thank you once more 💕
~quartermera
a/n:
Hey! How are you doing? I hope your doing good. First of all I apologize for making you wait for so so sooooooo long. It´s just that I had a lot to do for college and was really worn out after I was done with the biggest exams I had. I am really sorry. Like I really felt bad when I started to work on your request and that of the others. Thinking about the fact that I still have a lot do finish makes me actually want to cry… AnYwAySSSS. That’s not the point. Thank you so so much for requesting. You seem to be a great, creative, super nice and fun person. Therefore I really hope you will like with what I came up with. But if not let me apologize in advance. Tell me when your disappointed or if there is something you do9n´t like. I will work on it.
Other than that my dear requester, happy reading!
Match up rules can be found HERE.
Warning(s): Maybe grammatical or spelling mistakes since English is my third language and I´m still improving in every aspect (Please have mercy on that.)
!!! Please do not steal my idea or work. Credit me if this is shared or published in any other platform or any other way. Please respect me as the writer and my work. Picture is not mine. Credits to: please tell me when you know who made this beautiful masterpiece so I can give credits and tag them. Found it in google pictures(?). Thank you in advance. !!!
- I´m gonna be honest with you. I was struggling. Like struggling real hard. Like was sitting in front of my laptop with a picture of Shanks and Ace in front of me while trying to figure out who to choose. But then Luffy popped up at some point but then vanished only to be replaced by Sabo. He at some time vanished too and I was back at wondering if I should take Shanks or Ace. But then I thought about Vivi and I was getting nervous. BUT. A FTER A MENTAL BREAKDOWN. I MANAGED TO CHOOSE! And here we are my dear. I will be pairing you up with Bartolomeo.
- ….
- No! Jokes aside now. I´m pairing you up with Ace. XD
- You were part of the Whitebeard pirates since a year now. You enjoyed every single day o sea while living your best life.
- You got along with every crew member, no matter if there were male or female. You were one of the youngest members and one of the most loved one. Not gonna lie you sometimes were even called Pops little princess. The way he always called you to sit next to him during meals was always adorable. But everyone understood why. You were a chill and cheerful young lady. You were easy going and sweet. You always tried your best to help wherever you could. There were a lot of days in which you did the least liked tasks what always got Pops to get mad at the boys for making you do it. But you never cared. You enjoyed and liked being helpful.
- You took care of every crew member. Mostly when some of them came back from a missions /fights. You loved all of them and always genuinely showed it what made everyone appreciate and respect you for being with them.
- And whenever you did not help out any crewmate you would be hanging out with Ace.
- Ace. That reckless and sometimes clumsy man was the best part of being out on the sea as a pirate.
- They say that a princess would never leave her comfort zone voluntarily. For nothing and no one. But if it´s a person that is able to make them forget who they are and treat them like a normal human being, they would drop anything and anyone to be with them.
- And exactly this was the case. You were part of the royal elite on a island that was located at the first half of the grand line. You were an intelligent and open minded young royal, that was liked by the civilians but hated and despised by the royalty for being hard working to achieve your dreams and fulfill all of your wishes. They didn´t like the fact that you did not make others work for you while you did nothing but enjoy life as a royalty. (Not gonna lie I was inspired by a character of another anime I recently started. XD). They wanted you to follow the words of the elders and simply focus on your appearance so the prince can fall in love with you.
- You hated your life there. You hated your family. You hated the norms and values they lived there. The only thing you wanted was to get out and live your life as a normal human being when Ace appeared out of nowhere and dragged you around the island in hope to find a good restaurant that served good meat.
- This might sound ridicoulus but that was your first encounter. Your first encounter with a man that did not bow in front of you, placed a kiss on your knuckles, made you tons of compliments and had a stupid conversation about the weather.
- He came up to you and asked if the old grumpy looking man was botheting you and if you wanted him to punch him. He was ready to fight the stranger for a stranger. But when you told him that the grumpy man was your father he shrugged his shoulders and just repeated his question. His beahviour made you laugh and you told him that as much as you wanted him to be punched in the face he still was your father. So you asked for his name and lead him around the park you currently were at. But the poor man got bored and made you lead him to the market so he could eat.
- Whenever you would think about your first encounter with him you would be smiling and thanking the gods for sending you such a good hearted and nice man. A man that slowly and with more days and weeks passing turned into your boyfriend who turned you, a well mannered and raised royal into a navigator of one of the strongest pirate crews.
- Ace never held you back from doing what you liked or wanted to try. In fact he always encouraged you to keep doing that and always made sure no one was bothering you.
- There was one think you really appreciated. And that was his habit of always being around you. No matter what the circumstances were. There was a party? He always made sure to keep an eye on you. The whitebeared pirates were docking on one of their islands? Ace would be holding your hand and show you around. He would go out to eat. He would always drop by at your cabin to ask if you wanted to join him.
- Ace knew that you didn´t like being alone since you were always left alone by your family so he alwys tried his best to accompany you.
- As much as you loved and appreciated him, there was one thing that always and forever will be overwhelimg to you. and that’s the fact that the most energetic and reckless man was able to fall asleep in a blink of an eye. Like you could be talking to him and look away for a second just to find him snoring on the ground when you searched for his eyes. Like WtF! How is he able to sleep on the ground so peacefully?!

essay please.... but i'm tired rn.... 😪
any other time i would go off in great detail but i can tell you the basics
it's a collect-a-thon 3d-platformer. if you don't know what a collect-a-thon is, it's a game where you are tasked with collecting various items to progress through the game. it's like most other 3d platformers in that a large majority of it is platforming that you also have to complete to progress through the story.
hat kid has a bunch of hats that you also collect throughout the game that give her different abilities upon wearing them that help you in traversing different areas of the game. they have different variants of the hats that you can also earn, buy (in-game currency NOT real money there's none of that microtransaction bs) or collect to give your hat kid a little bit of customization. there's also "dyes" that can change the color of your hat kid's clothes and hair that you can use and also some outfits you can have her wear too if you want.
the plot is basically hat kid loses her time pieces on a nearby planet and she needs to get them all back because they are fuel for her spaceship she needs to be able to make it back home. unfortunately the residents of said planet do not make it easy for her to collect them and she often has to complete various tasks for them in order to be rewarded with them. the game is separated into various level sets called "chapters" and each level is an "act" within them. the plot really isn't that complex, which is common with indie games, but the characters are all interesting and fun so it makes the experience memorable and worthwhile.
if you play the steam version of the game (the ver i recommend playing) there's also a very active modding community that makes loads of cool levels and customization that you can explore when you complete the game.
ahit personally reminds me a lot of 3d platformers of the early 2000s and ps2 era as those were a big part of my childhood. that was my first draw to the series even because of that factor; it made me feel a comfort like when i was younger playing those games. i also love the design of ahit and its characters, which i'm sure is a very obvious attachment that i have to the game.
Every time I mistype shit as ahit I think if a hat in time and it is 1000% your fault lol

rec post for @f-eef that got too long for its own good, and is now just. a general rec post i guess
(as of writing, today is the steam summer sale! writing this before that goes live, so no guarantee everything on here is on sale, but! most of these are older games, so it’s likely. keep them in mind~)
- Iconoclasts my absolute favourite game, ever (along with OFF, but shh), if you check out one game from this list, let it be this one. it’s a genuinely almost flawless package, with gorgeous pixel art, fun gameplay, a really good story, and a cast of characters i just. adore. it’s so so so good, and three years later, i’m still not over it
- The Binding of Isaac so there’s this genre called roguelikes, wherein the whole gimmick is that, when you die, you gotta start from the Very Beginning; and the ‘point’ is getting better and better at the game, until you win! it’s super easy to just, play a few runs (they generally don’t last that long!), and then go on with your day, so it’s a really fun game to just waste time in, if you just wanna chill with some game. and, in my personal opinion, Isaac is the best roguelike game, with so much stuff to unlock, a whole slew of items to play with, and so much content it’s kind of unreal. i definitely think the DLCs are worth picking up, but it’s mostly for more content than like. actually being necessary
- Terraria it’s minecraft, but 2D. unlike MC, it’s got a bit of guidance, which i personally prefer, with bosses to fight and such. an absolutely BLAST with other people too
- A Hat in Time a 3D platformer, ala Mario, that’s just. super charming. it’s also really fun to play. i haven’t actually played the DLC’s, since i played it way back, but i’ve heard good things about Nyakuza Metro, which does look super slick, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- Slime Rancher you are a slime rancher. you ranch slimes. it’s honestly just wholesome as hell, and just exudes happy vibes. mostly for running around and collecting slimes, ngl
- The Messenger really funky retro game, wherein you play a ninja on a mission. it’s primary draw is definitely in its gameplay, but there’s a surprising amount of story for this kind of genre? i honestly really just like this one. it’s neat
- Underhero you play as a cute minion, who kind of like. managed to kill the hero. and whoops, guess you’re doing his job now? it’s got that undertale vibe, though i’d say it’s less polished than it. HOWEVER, it’s absolutely lovely and it’s climax is REALLY good
- Hatoful Boyfriend bird dating sim. trust me. the ‘secret’ finale route is just. *chef’s kiss* fantastic
- Night in the Woods if you don’t mind having a very poignant sad time, oh my god, i could not recommend NITW more. it perfectly captures that period when you’re done with school, and suddenly your whole life is stretching before you, and you feel so so fucking lost, and overwhelmed and pained with it. it’s just. so good. a sadness worth experiencing
- Shovel Knight another retro game! this one is, pretty much, the king of the genre, and for very good reasons. the first one (shovel of hope) doesn’t have much story, but the latter ones really add on it. they’re honestly just, really solid games! with funky knight characters!!!
- Hyper Light Drifter man, it’s just a masterpiece. everything about it is perfect. it’s been like, five years, and it’s still one of the very best indie games
- Tell Me Why it’s currently free for june! and it’s a story game! plus, if you like the genre, the devs got the ‘Life Is Strange’ serie(s) to delve into!
- Cat Quest honestly, i just really like this little game. the gameplay is SO much fun, and everything else is just. really charming :’)
- Yoku’s Island Express metroidvania, where you play as a dung-beetle post officer, and the gimmick is that it’s pinball-y! it’s really fun, and very cute and just an all around good time :)
- Owlboy you play as an owl boy! named Otus! and you can fly around, and there’s GORGEOUS pixel graphics, and a neat story, and just. the BEST cast of characters. it’s delightful
- Yuppie Psycho + Count Lucanor just gonna bundle these two together, because they’re both REALLY GOOD. YP is the newer one, and is therefore probably ‘the better one’, but i like them both a ton! they’re 2D horror, but i wouldn’t say they’re that spooky? though that might just be because they’re pixel games! you explore spooky place, and weird stuff happens around you. just a really fun time :)
- Angels of Death my FAVOURITE rpgmaker game, it’s main draw is, a 100%, the main characters and the relationship that develops between them. i just love it a whole lot, and it’s got that lil’ tinge of horror that i, personally, fucking adore. there’s actually an anime based on this, but i haven’t seen it myself!
- Celeste curve ball! it’s a 2D platformer! it’s really good, got a ton of accessibility features, and has like. the tightest gameplay- and, on top of that, surprisingly emotional story!
- Bastion putting Bastion here, because it’s actually the only one i’ve properly played, but you could probably buy any of the Supergiant Games, and come out satisfied. Bastion is the oldest of the bunch, and is definitely a bit less polished for it, but i personally adore it; the gameplay probably hasn’t aged that well, but i think the story and presentation more than makes up for it
- The Darkside Detective funny point and click adventure, with great wit, and a pair of characters i kind of simply adore. it’s main draw is definitely its humour
- Littlewood very wholesome and chill farming game, that feels more like an RPG than something like stardew valley- i’d not recommend it over SV, but if you want more of SV, Littlewood might scratch that itch!
- Pony Island + The Hex absolutely adore both of these, though if i had to rec only one, it’d probably be Pony Island? they’ve both got that undertale-off vibe, though Pony Island definitely leans harder into it. very interesting plays, both of them
- Oxenfree another horror-ish game! primarily story-focused, but oh boy, what a story! i’m a BIG fan of this game, and the sequel was recently announced too! definitely worth a look if you like ghost shenanigans
- Creature in the Well wasn’t a 100% sure if i should rec this, but beside the finale boss, i really enjoyed my time with this! it’s this weird pinball inspired hack and slash, with some amazing vibes
- Kindergarten 1 + 2 they’re just fun little games okay. the 2nd is much more fleshed out, but the 1st one is really fun too
- the Henry Stickmin collection I JUST... LIKE THESE GAMES A LOT... i think you can find the old versions somewhere on the internet, if you wanna check them out first? idk, they’re fun!
- LIMBO + INSIDE personally, i like INSIDE more, but both of these are classics, and also they’re made by a danish team, and i like them a WHOLE LOT
- The Final Station i could not tell you why i like this game as much as i do, but oh my god. i love this game? it’s got a dying world, neat pixel graphics, big zombie apocalypse vibes, and a weird little story
- Year Walk i love Year Walk :)
- Smile For Me if you liked undertale’s lovely cast of characters, oh boy, you’d likely LOVE this game! it’s really, really, fantastic, and the epilogue (not in the actual game lol) hit me right in the feels
- Pikuniku just a fun little game! there’s not really much there, in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a wonderful little play, one of those games that just sets out to give you a good time, and absolutely success. i like it a lot :’)
- A Short Hike wonderful game, where it’s more about exploring the island than actively finishing the game. it’s real wonderful
- ULTRAKILL ANOTHER CURVEBALL! no idea if you like FPS, but oh my god. ULTRAKILL is so fucking good. just an absolute blast to play. there’s a demo to check out, and i’d definitely recommend it, because if it’s a genre you might like, you’ll love this one (OH also it’s in early access, which means it’s not finished yet! personally, i don’t mind that, especially considering this is more gameplay focused, but ya’ know!)
- My Friend Pedro it’s honestly just really fun to play, and sometimes i still think about the implied lore, and go all !!!!
- Little Misfortune another point and click! this one is pretty short, and is set within the same universe as their other game, Fran Bow, which is much bigger, but idk. i like this one. it’s dark cute
- This Strange Realm of Mine i honestly dunno how to explain this one, because it’s kind of weird and a bit odd, but i really like it, in all its weird poetic glory. it’s neat!
- Donut County you’re a terrible racoon who’s ruined the whole city with holes. it’s great and i love it
- OneShot another ‘gives me undertale vibes’, though this one was in development before UT, if i recall correctly! it’s so good, and it’s got some fantastic meta bits, and i love Niko. i love Niko so much
- Inmost gorgeous vaguely spooky game with a neat story... my favourite genre
- Sayonara Wild Hearts i’d call this more of a spectacle than anything else, but oh my god. what a spectacle it is! the OST is amazing, everything about it just hits right, and even if you suck at the gameplay (which i did), it really doesn’t matter, in my opinion? it’s just great all around!
#ze.txt#the sale likely just went live so#steam sale#hope there's something here to your taste feef!#i honestly haven't been playing any 'real' games in. A WHILE? so all of these are older-ish#and there's a bunch of good new games out there!#but here's my little rec post of older games :')#that i have. actually played#i think inmost is the only one i never finished? plus TECHNICALLY oneshot since it got a BIG update after i played it but shhhh#also TECHNICALLY also ultrakill but that's in ea so it doesn't count okay#i just love ultrakill so much. i had to rec it. I HAD TO#also keep in mind some of these probably require a mouse!! i know ultrakill DEF does#but you might have one?? i usually play on my big pc so i. would not know#oh also DST does have a single player version which is very good also
