How I'd Make FEH's Seasonal Banners Not Suck

Gacha is evil, it's bad, you shouldn't play it but as a girl with a big of a gambling addiction but see's no value in PNGs it's an outlet for me so I enjoy a few Gacha games for their fix, one of which being FEH. Seasonal banners are the worst banners of every month because their not sparkable without paying the monthly fee they want players to pay. Still imagining a better world where they had non premium spark I want to go over each months theme and if I'd keep it the same or if I'd replace the theme and with what.

January - New Years It's a solid banner theme of holiday banners it's one of two I'd keep. Most people use a calendar that means January is the start of a new year so a banner themed around celebrating it makes sense.

January 2 - Dessert

While the Dessert theme does have an eventual expiration date Fire Emblem does have a nice breath of Dessert cultures throughout the series that I do think is interesting to get a bit more insight into. Eventually this will have to pivot to some other type of cultural background but I do think there is smooth ways to transition into cultures although perhaps they will intersect with the Culture/Tribal banners that happen later in the year. If they really ran out of special cultures I do think they could pivot this to even go modern and explore real world cultures that inspired the characters for more modern designs which could be a fun and exciting ways to engage players.

February - Vday While I enjoy the dead dads theme of The Day Of Devotion banner being little families connecting I do think with FEHs dual heroes that we could do an actually romantic set of banners where it has ships on dates in cute outfits with an all dual hero banner. I think this theme could or could not be game locked but I think the most fun thing is to have a thematic tie between the ships and have it not be game locked so instead be like tragic love, Eternal Love, Childhood Friends To Lovers Rivals To Lovers kinda deals where it explores a different set of dynamics and how they manifested in the series. I'd start with a Childhood Friends To Lovers theme with Alm and Celica, Florina and Lyn, Dimitri and Dedude something like that to have a nice well flavored banner.

March - Replace Easter with Beast AU

This is probably my biggest want for Fire Emblem Heroes, the Easter Theme is not good. What could be amazing though and fix one of FEHs biggest problems is a banner that makes units into Beast Units. FEH has to make a good chunk of it's OCs beasts just so it can put a new stream of beast units into the game and has to use fairly niche characters to fill seasonal rosters all to stay canon complient but I say fuck canon, it's fun to do an AU and it would let popular characters be reimagined. In particular they could easily debut this to a best selling banner of Three Houses AUs. Flying Beast Black Eagle Edelgard, Cavalier Beast Golden Deer Claude, Armor Beast Blue Lion Dimitri, and Infantry Beast Ashen Wolf Yuri. Bam, perfect, that's a top selling banner. You pair Yuri with M Byleth since he is the Ashen demon or Naliah for a canon wolf unit. You make the tempest trail unit Fbyleth as either like a literal Ashen Demon or a dragon.

April - Replace Kids with Futures

It will never set well with me on every single level the kids banner theme. I hate having the kids end up being stronger then the other versions of the character. I hate having kid designs in general cuz it feels weird to use babies to fight in these wars. It's a weird theme that should go. So instead I propose a much better theme of Futures where we see the characters older from their end cards in the game. This is a massive staple of Fire Emblem having characters have some nice little future and why can't we see this. The age range can vary seeing fresh faced adults of the younger characters like a Donel or a Amelia or like proper older versions of some of the more standard ages Fire Emblem lords as they enter their MILF/DILF eras. People would love to see a proper older version of characters they love, especially it could be cute for older titles where you maybe it could be like aged by the amount of years of the game and kinda a growing up with the character kinda deal. Or it could just be a thirsty Mommy Sorry kinda vibe, either way works for me.

May - Replace Brides With cooking banner

Getting ready for the summer rather then a creepy bridal theme we could have a cook out, since Fates cooking has been a staple of Fire Emblem. I think themes like Tea Time could also move to this slot but each year could have a different kind of cooking vibe from like a summer cook out to a master chief vibe to like a cozy married life cooking banner with each capturing a new vibe while not being just the same boring white dress on woman theme.

June - Keep Summer 1

It's fine, I don't care for the fan service but people enjoy it, keep one month of summer banners, it clearly makes money, someone gets excited about it, a lot of people do but it could also be they bring out a lot of fan favorite units and strong pairings.

July - Replace Summer 2

I will give FEH one month of swim suits but one month is all I will give. Swim suits are not inspired, they aren't particularly interesting and we don't need two months of it. The theme that could replace it I think is space for something really fun like a cosplay theme with other Nintendo characters or a modern fashion theme that could be summery but not like just a swim suit. Something out there and exciting and can be a real talking point of the year. Personally I am found of the cosplay/crossover slot existing here.

August - Make Explicitly A Rare Class Theme

This slot might seem random but to me the clear pattern is it's about highlighting a rare class in the series be in rare as if you get 1 per game or rare as in was only in a few games. We have plenty of Fates Birthrights classes but even outside of that we have classes like Summoner that have only ever appeared once or Bandit that have only been playable once that could be a ton of fun to see characters dressed up as and could lead to really fun designs.

September - Keep Culture

The culture/tribal banners that show up in September are fantastic, actually using the lore of Fire Emblem. We have tons of cultures to go through that have shown up in the Fire Emblem series with countries like Sacae, Almyra, Brigid, all briming with a ton of fun potential to bring into banners and have popular characters be there to carry the flag for their country while other characters dive deep into the cultures.

October - Keep Halloween

Halloween is fun, it's fun, it never is samey because Halloween is what you make it, they could mix it up and have FE characters cosplaying Nintendo characters even if they start deciding they wanted to move off spooky stuff but honestly the spooky stuff is all cheesy fun and the banners are not creepy at all so I think they are just good fun.

November - Widen Ninja to be other Japanese inspired classes

I love Ninja Banners, who doesn't they just have good units from popular games and good designs but I do think expanding Ninja to include Samurai and other Hosido classes could widen the general appeal of the units and help them not stagnate but also I like Ninjas so like I feel like it should expand but not as strongly as the others I wanted to change.

December - Replace Xmas With Snowy Cultures

I am Christmas's greatest hater so of course I want this to change but I also think it's just so boring as a theme everyone wearing the same kind of outfit and colors every single year it just isn't fun and I would much rather see an expansion to the worlds cultures like with other cultural banners and a shift to Snowy cultures like Flora's home culture and Florinas.

Unicorn Overlord Act 3: Land of finnish elves

The mechanics I loved that made Elheim fun to go through:

Galadmir swapping towers and disappearing if you bring Eltolinde too close during her recruitment mission

Having to keep an eye on Ervélda put out the fire in the forest

The gate swapping/holding gimmick in the final stage against Alcina

the mechanic I could have done without:

THE THORNS. I hate them. Conceptually, I love annoying terrain mechanics. But setting my 10 units to get through the maps by setting stops here and there so they don't walk into the thorns requires dainty fingers and dexterity I don't possess. Every time a unit stops too close to another one, they end up pushing them into the thorns 😩 I'm too much of a brute to navigate these.

In every other way, it was a step down from Drakenhold. The most high fantasy iteration of fantasy elves had me bored until Alcina showed up. Her. She. The woman whose looks and aura had captivated me since the first teaser.

She was such a cool boss to face off - and then that was it. If she never appears again, it will be a waste of an amazing design. If she does re-appear... to be quite honest I don't even want that. Her lukewarm backstory with Alain's clone-grandfather was one of the worst disappointments and I went from looking forward to meeting her to just not caring a single bit. This is the second time this game has me eager to meet a character character only for their writing to extinguish my interest in them :')

In fact, as I progress through the game, I'm getting increasingly tired of Alain who started out as the most whatever protagonist possible but now has revealed himself to be affected by what I'm going to call "player wish-fulfillment syndrome", and part of that is making (most?) women in the game a possible love interest. This means a large part of their conversations with him might be about their feelings for him (instead of vastly more interesting subjects), their rapport conversations with other characters might still be all about him, and their covenant oath will almost certainly be romantic.

I may be especially sour about this because I'm slowly going through every possible option for the covenant as I unlock them, and every single scene with a female character* I selected pretty much ended in wedding vows (*excluding Galadmir) no matter their personality and aspirations are whereas the only male option that came close to feeling romantic was Lyn, and I felt I had to meticulously extract subtext out of this one. I hope the rest of the cast will be different but I'm not holding on to any hope in this regard.

(I just saw the one with Berengaria and I hated it so much I needed to vent that out lmao)

Anyway, she may be more of a side character but I liked Ridiel at least. She pretty much eclipsed any other character from that segment of the game.

✨ How did you come up with the OC’s name?

Mystery choice #1: Huayin (花音). I don't need to explain what it means to you... I wanted her to have a very gentle, pretty name at odds with her personality. And for some reason, I've always associated her with flowers. Let me know what impression it gives you! Is it a common name? Or does it sound like something really flashy a main character would be called.

Mystery choice #2: It's Guen, short for Guenevere. In Arthurian legend, Queen Guinevere is married to the king, but she grows disillusioned with him and has an affair with one of his knights. Her name comes from the word for "white" in Welsh. Guen is some type of albino, so it seemed fitting.

Mystery choice #3: Haru. It was just supposed to be Hilal's cheesy nickname for him but I used it as a placeholder for too long and now nothing else sounds right. I'm taking suggestions!! I want to find a name that means something auspicious, like "precious" or "good fortune." Because his grandpa named him with love.

Huayin: The person she likes the most (the only person she likes) is the guy who's letting her and Guen stay at his place. He's like a kind older brother figure. She thinks that strangers take advantage of his kindness (by moving in with him, for instance), so she's always looking out for him and then denying that she cares! Besides that, she also cares about Guen. Though it's not the affectionate kind of care. "The opposite of hate is indifference." Because Huayin has strong (negative or positive) feelings about Guen, she undeniably gives a damn.

Guen: Same as Huayin. The guy they're staying with is someone who has all the qualities she wants to emulate, so she holds a lot of respect for him. In addition to that, she has a constant stream of shitty boyfriends who she breaks up with as soon as they get less shitty. She attracted to them because they make her feel needed, so when she's not "needed" anymore she breaks up with them. For the same reason, she'll never cut ties with Huayin because in her eyes, Huayin will always need to be fixed.

Haru: He loves and feels indebted to the people in his family who took care of him growing up: his grandpa and his older sister. He has a confidant who lives inside his head, who he shares everything with. He has a lot of romantic interests too: a childhood sweetheart, a girl who he starts dating in the middle of an existential crisis, and Hilal, who's also his best friend. The problem is, all of these people who he cares about have conflicting interests. He can only prioritize one.

🎹 Do they have any hobbies?

Huayin: She just does chores or trains.

Guen: She likes gaming in her free-time.

Haru: He's into fashion, and makeup. He also studies a lot.

🎯 What do they do best?

Huayin: She's good at fighting, because while she's moving she doesn't have to think about complicated things (like emotions and moral quandaries) and just focus on getting the job done. It's satisfying to land a clean hit—she relishes in it, so she has an incentive to keep getting better.

Guen: She's also good at fighting. But unlike Huayin, it's a natural talent and she detests it. She would much rather find a peaceful resolution than use physical force. Unfortunately, she sucks at that because she doesn't really understand other people.

Haru: From his perspective, he doesn't have a stand-out skill. But he's actually quite good at negotiations. He's got a mix of logic and genuine emotion that's really convincing. I guess he's best at just being human and trying hard.

🧊 Is their current design the first one?

Huayin: Surprisingly, yeah. Usually I have to reinvent my OCs several times over, but in both looks and personality she's stayed almost completely the same.

Guen: She was originally shorter than Huayin, and she had fluffy, light blue hair. Now she's taller, and her hair is white blonde and very fine. I think her features have slowly morphed over the years... She used to be a trans guy too, but I changed it.

Haru: I can't even remember what he originally looked like. That's how different it is. I think he used to look kind of like Alma? Very typical shounen protag.

🍀 What originally inspired the OC?

Huayin: I wanted to draw a main character. Someone with an "I am the protagonist," "the world revolves around me" mentality. The kind of main character who starts out with significant flaws, but gradually improves throughout the course of the story. That's Huayin.

Guen: I needed someone to fill the role of Huayin's reluctant but steadfast companion. And so, Guen was created. She had to be someone who would actually stay by Huayin's side, so a lot of her character traits were determined by necessity.

Haru: ...This is embarrassing. During my shounen phase in high school, I did a lot of daydreaming about the "best friend/rival to traitor" trope that appears in practically every shounen action story. I kind of wanted to see characters in a similar setting who subverted it! Haru initially came out of that.

🌂 What genre do they belong in?

Huayin: Action! One of those edgy, "dark" stories where the main character's lack of morals is what the fans love about them.

Guen: Like a slow, slice of life where some sad person from the city moves to a farm and learns to live their life and be happy.

Haru: Family drama. You know, like Downtown Abbey and stuff? Or that new TikTok series The Mother of Twins, Wins. Have you heard of it? Those plots about socialites fighting over who's getting the inheritance. If it was his decision, he would be in a fairy tale.

🧠 What do you like most about the OC?

Huayin: She has moments where she does what no one else is willing to do, which I think is pretty cool. On a deeper level, I like how she chases after what she thinks she wants, and it leads her away from what she actually needs.

Guen: She reacts strongly to little details most people wouldn't notice or care about. That means she gets upset easily, but she also gets really happy about things that seem inconsequential.

Haru: He's very earnest. Even though he thinks that's his biggest weakness, he's even earnest in his desire to stop being earnest. He acts secretive but he can't hide the emotions on his face. It's cute!

🍩 Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival?

Huayin: Guen, obviously. Someone like Huayin, who's spent her whole life trying to be strong and who's never mattered to anyone, doesn't take kindly to some stranger sticking onto her like glue and telling her to change her entire life. To Huayin, Guen's optimism is idealistic and fake—and therefore, a pointless lie. It stings to see how much other people adore Guen for the things Huayin thinks are bullshit. It just doesn't line up with Huayin's reality at all, so she spends all her energy trying to prove that she's right and Guen's wrong. Because the notion that she genuinely matters to someone is just... unbelievable.

Guen: ↑ The feeling is mutual. Huayin constantly forces Guen to question her belief that humans are fundamentally good. She's the only person who's able to make Guen genuinely angry. It's not obvious when she's not around Huayin, but Guen has her own stubborn streak. In her mind, if she gave up on making Huayin a better person, it would be like she lost at something. Despite all of this, she calls Huayin her friend. She claims it's because she can see how good Huayin could be if she actually tried, but... deep down maybe it's because even when Huayin's at her worst, Guen feels like the best version of herself when they're together.

Haru: Although like I mentioned earlier, the first iterations of Haru and Hilal were rivals, that aspect of their friendship is much less present than it used to be. Now, rather than competing with each other directly, they're both jealous of what the other one has. Haru has a lot of other people to compete with: there's his sister who's a much better leader and strategist than he could ever hope to be, and there's his childhood crush I mentioned earlier. They used to share everything as kids, but they've gone in separate directions. There's also Huayin! She just finds Haru irritating and untrustworthy, but he respects her skills and wants to prove that he's better than her. It's a one-sided rivalry.

That's it! I have some sketches of what they look like, but before you see them I want to hear your impressions! Based on the information I've given you so far, how do you think they look? It'll help me gauge how well their designs convey their personalities.

The sketch on top is a lot older than the others. You can see how Huayin's face is much sharper in the later iterations. Her expression is also a lot sharper. Maybe the first one can be from when she was younger, or something.

This is the most recent thing here, so this is the most up to date reference for what Huayin and Guen look like. You wouldn't know about it from the way they talk about each other, but they're pretty close.

Guen overheats easily. The bigass hat is a recent addition, I think she would probably keep her face covered in public.

You can tell how old Haru is by the state of his hair and how much of the light has left his eyes. I noticed when I was practicing drawing 'Hikaru' that his face actually looks a lot Haru's. Maybe you can't tell from these sketches, but I thought it was funny.

i don’t really have a name for this idea or a plot per se; i just have some characters and vibes so we will uh go with that. maybe i’ll call it “litter support” bc the entire idea is centered around a single werewolf dad that’s navigating having multiple litters and varying degrees of relationships with the mother’s/families of his kids.

so, meet WEREWOLF DAD: KASPIAN (or kas)

he’s a 37yo stressed out day laborer who works many hours in order to support his children from a few different litters. he loves his kiddos, tries his best for them, but really needs some actual wholesome relationships and a nap. and he has a hard time dating between the kids and his crazy work schedule. :)

THE MOTHERS:

LEA-JAYNE- 47yo; had their pups at 25 (dad was 15 😬) p much groomed him. they tried to be in a relationship but around the time he was 20 he she divorced him to pursue one of her rich affair partners and she got full custody of their 2 kids. she had him wrapped around her finger for awhile, but its been recently (the past 6 years) that he’s made a pretty good break from her and is starting anew™. she doesn’t like this despite being married to someone else and is always scheming to get him back under her thumb :) their kids are benjamin (he/him but experimenting with she/her & “jaymin”, 22) and marilyn (she/her but experimenting with he/him & “lyn”, 22)

CHRYSES - died during childbirth and bc kas was between jobs, her mother/kids grandmother was given full custody. the grandmother resents kas for her daughter’s death (though the two were in a relationship and planning to be married she never liked him :/) and constantly bad mouths him to the kids. however, the kids love their pa so they don’t really listen to her. she likes to keep the kids from seeing him when she can. their kids are auden (he/him, 15), chryses (named after her mother by grandma due to her striking resemblance to mama, she/her 15), and azaria (she/her, 15)

CORAH, 35yo- the only good relationship out of any of his litters. the two met at the bar and had a one night stand which resulted in a pregnancy™. she and kas became friends throughout the whole process, and while a romantic relationship isn’t something they’d pursue, she does have his best interest at heart and is probably one of his closest friends. this is the most consistent custody schedule so he sees these 3 kiddos the most. their children are gwin (she/her, 11), song (she/her, 11) and rivera (she/her, 11)

annnnnnd the kids:

benjamin or “jaymin” — the eldest of all kaspian’s kids and one of the shier ones. she and kaspian aren’t as close as she wants to be and she wishes she could have a better relationship instead of being under her mother’s thumb. she feels like she might be trans, but her mother/step-father’s expectations of her to make something of herself and “man up” have caused her a lot of grief and she’s been extremely closeted, esp after she stopped seeing kaspian regularly at a young age. she tries to reach out but usually burns her letters before she sends them. kas isn’t aware of her questioning her gender.

marilyn or “lyn” — the second eldest and budding transmasc. he grew up pretty angry and is very protective of jaymin. he resents kaspian for abandoning them with their tyrannical mother, and resents jaymin’s rosy viewpoint of their father. main goal is to get money and get them out of there so they can be their true selves.

auden — eldest of dead mom’s lot; adores kaspian and wants to live with his father full time and when he’s kicked out after an argument with gma or runs away he often finds his way to his father’s house. the police have been involved several times, and while they are suspicious that kaspian is kidnapping him, auden is loud about running away on his own, or trying to put the blame on his grandmother for kicking him out. hes pretty brash and acts out in school and just wants to be left alone.

chryses or “ris/rhys”— more relaxed than her elder brother but easily riled up. their grandmother views her as a perfect angel, even naming her after her deceased mother, but she’s pretty indifferent towards the woman. she wants to experiment with sex and relationships and while kaspian doesn’t mind as long as she’s safe her grandmother has an iron grip on where she goes or who she speaks with. she tends to be kept back by grandmother the most. loves her pa a lot and is always clinging to him when she can.

azaria or “zari” — rambunctious and extroverted and between herself and gwin tends to get into the most adrenaline junkie nonsensical situations. isn’t favored by the grandmother but knows how to not cause trouble (unlike auden) which allows her to get away with a lot. is very smart but doesn’t care for school and likes to run away for fun and not angst lol.

gwin — loud and excitable but extremely clumsy, gwin always loves spending time with her parents. she doesn’t really understand why they aren’t together and sometimes tries to get them to be partners again.

song — the most quiet and sensible of all of kaspian’s kids. song always has her head buried in a book and doesn’t really like getting dirty. she’s very intelligent for her age but has an aversion to others and going outside, something both kaspian and corah are trying to work with her on.

rivera — airheaded, but sweet, with the same if not more clumsiness like her elder sister. rivera loves nothing more than listening to song read and sleeping in the sun. she’s more like a cat than a dog lol.

so yeah! like i said no clue where i’m going with this, however knowing me romance is probably gonna be a thing soooooo 🌚

I also completely deleted the ninian thing from my brain even though just recently in my randomizer I got annoyed by cutscenes slowing the text down. Oops. Can't eliwood get paired with other people too.

eliwood can also get paired with, iirc, lyn, (cracks open wiki to check which pegasister it was) and fiora. (hector can get paired with farina, and florina is obviously in lesbians with lyn.)

so like, the dragon asthma is 100% because of roy's ambiguously dead mom. gotta get a reason for her to die. if you have eliwood marry lyn or fiora instead? congrats, you've just doomed them.

the REAL kicker about elinini though is that. it's sooo canon. it's so canon, but because there's TECHNICALLY other eliwood romance options, intsys can never confirm it for real to keep the shipbait alive (even if the other main eliwood ship is eliwood/hector, lol, and they sure don't have problems pandering to a m/m ship of ANOTHER lord with multiple romantic options.)

like. ninian is in love with eliwood. always. always. no matter who he ends up with. and like. THEY DID MAKE ELININI CANON IN HEROES ONCE?? so i was watching some Forging Bonds at random for fun and stumbled upon base Nils. The way this Nils talks and what he references - this Nils is post canon. He alludes to Ninian dying, his Ninian dying, but how it was her choice that led to it, and he has made peace with that. The Ninian he talks to has not made that choice yet, but Nils can tell she will make the same one his sister has, and he respects it. He grieves his sister, but he respects that she chose her happiness.

Nils' Ninian chose to stay with Eliwood.

Which only happens if you get the Eliwood/Ninian A support. after which they get married.

It actually is interesting that there's no hesitation to push the main ship of Lilina/Roy in fe6 related content, considering that Roy also has variable romance options (Larum, Shanna, Sophia, Sue, and Cecilia. But if you pick Cecilia i'm stealing something from your house. That one's gross.)

I think this is because confirming any one Roy ship has less repurcussion, considering that Roy has no canonical children, unlike Eliwood. Confirming someone to be Eliwood's wife will also confirm her to be Roy's mom, which has far wider reaching repurcussions. Even then, Lilina/Roy are in a perpetual state of "will they won't they", wherein Roy is oblivious to Lilina's feelings, and Lilina refuses to confess.

Honestlyyyyyy it's amazing intsys keeps ALL "non-canon" ships in limbo while also fucking up and making Elinini canon. It's also really frustrating to keep characters in narrative limbo and refuse to let them progress their relationships Ever. You see the worst in this with Engage Corrin, wherein they refuse to canonize a route of Fates, meaning Corrin can only give the vaguest of references and platitudes that make her a nothingburger of a character. Heroes' Corrins tend to be.... slightly less bad, since Heroes has the option of having multiple Corrins for multiple routes, thus having their cake and eating it too - letting Corrin directly reference routes, while canonizing none of them. Coughs. Byleth however.....

speaking of which, Claude would have been a prime candidate here, but at least, Three Hopes finally gave him a route that feels like it's his own and not the church's sloppy... firsts. although that route did bring with it a new candidate for this question (they did so little with shahid,)

anyway, god, how does one even begin to choose? I could nominate like half of every female cast from the Kaga era games for one thing. get to the modern games, and you get countless characters who would've benefitted greatly from not being under pressure from being a viable target for the resident customizable protagonist's gaping S-supporting maw. the ones in the middle of the maelstrom are safe from that sort of sweeping problem, but that's not to say they don't have any characters they inidividually did dirty... (Lyn deserved more story relevance, Elincia deserved more time in the limelight in Radiant Dawn, Eirika deserves more respect from the fandom if that counts, and that's just going through protagonists)

anyway, a solid chunk of Awakening's second generation deserved to be in a better game -- perhaps even their own game -- so I guess that's also a big one

anyway, I'm not nearly as avid of a reader as I should be, for being a writer, but here's some of the finest Fire Emblem fanfic that my terrible brain managed not to wander astray from:

Princess of Dawn and its sequels by @wyvern-dork are the ultimate gesture of dedication to a blorbo that I've ever had the privilege of witnessing, let's see, around 80 chapters of so far. y'know, out of the 193 total that are presently up. to describe it only as a novelization of the Akaneia Saga, starring Minerva and featuring Minerva/Palla, would be selling it short. I think the more accurate thing to call it, rather, is the Minerva bible.

not looking for a work that will beautifully gobble up your entire life like that, though? first off all, why aren't you? but second of all, you can still get your Minerva/Palla from the same tap in shorter form: in Blades of Champions, where the two of them are some of the tryhardingest fencers in the whole modern alternate universe

and to complete the hat-trick on recs for this particular friend's works, there's Fingers Through the Sand. in this fic, Luthier dies at war and Delthea's journey to completely mishandle her grief eventually takes her across the sea and to befriend another magical powerhouse with a heart full of grief -- Linde. it will hurt you perfectly while dazzling you with stuff about magic

but lest you think I'm letting you off without another Akaneia rec with lots of magic in it -- as if; here's simplicity by name, the delightful gift I was given for nagamas 2021. it's Merric/Arlen, albeit with some flexibility as to how romantic you read their interactions here exactly, also they're both magnificently trans of gender in there

and I'm not done with the magic yet, or with the ones I've managed to prompt out onto existance. after all, @dornishsphinx‘s May You Arrive at Fertile Phthia dotted that year's FE Rarepair Exchange for me with some of the most evocative (and, at least once, haunting) descriptions of magic I've ever seen. besides that, it also has an intriguing Erk/Nino story largely set after Binding Blade, ie, well after they've both disappeared. it is deliciously detailed, and even has a bunch of Homeric references if that happens to be something you're interested in

while we're at Elibe, @royaltyjunk's the pain in my heart cannot be shared (i really miss you) deserves a mention at the very least because Lyn opening a text convo with Hector with "order bitch" remains one of the most beautifully in-character things I've ever seen for her and it's the first line of the piece- besides that, it's also a modern AU story taking place in our here world, but one might say that it's still about how much Lyn misses the plains.

anyway, let's cap this off with a hat-trick of @queenlua recs, notwithstanding that this tag there is entirely redundant with the other notifications she's about to be getting for this post- anyway, the first one of them is Silent World, a three-chapterer in which Naesala attempts to ruin Micaiah and Sothe's relationship for shits and giggles. it's not quite SFW and it does in fact feature Micaiah/Sothe, but if you're fine with both of those things, then you may join in me suddenly finding Sothe a much more interesting character than you may have originally figured (plus, that Micaiah and Naesala are great characters should require no convincing, but they're still in peak form here, so, that's just Oops! All Interesting)

and here's another three-chapterer while I'm at it -- Where the River Meets the Sea. it's a Claude/Hilda story that doesn't skirt around the dodgy history between Hilda and Almyra -- the opposite, in fact, as that's one of the central themes. the other being that these two are both extremely nonconfrontational people and, sometimes, that's not a good thing. anyway, Lorenz writes a strongly worded letter in this, so, that's the real #1 reason why you should go read it right now

and I'm not done asking you to enjoy Lorenz content either; for that matter, neither am I done with the modern AUs. because summer is miles and miles away is the white whale that I will always be kindly, playfully, yet persistently prodding the author about picking back up someday. it's a Claude/Lorenz story where all the Garreg Mach people are Harvard graduates, Claude is the tech startup bro he was always meant to be, Lorenz hasn't matured quite as fast as he did in canon without a war to light a fire in his ass, and Hilda is great

plus, there's always my own work to recommend, but I take in pride in all the stuff I got to make these days, so, it's hard to pick and choose just a handful. you could always check out my ao3 page and read every last one of them. but to select a few regardless: The Winter Bird is my love letter to all of the Dawn Brigade's obscure underappreciated blorbos; Forests and People features Jamke, Edain, Dew, and probably some of the funniest lines I've ever managed to get into a piece; Building Trust, slightly longer-form than my usual fare, is an ongoing effort to make Catria/Clair happen -- you know, on my part, on their parts, and on Minerva and Palla's parts, with the time they have to spare while they're not flirting with each other -- and if you're in luck I might actually finish the fourth and final chapter this year; and then there's my most recent piece, MozghuzCon, where I drastically exceed my own expectations vis-a-vis story length for a spot of modern AU Bernadetta/Marianne where they're both very transgender, very neurodivergent, and very nerdy.

What happened to cause the fallout between her and Dice?

Affection and miscommunication, mostly.

When they started to really get close as friends, Lyn was never shy about being interested in dating Dice. She expressed that pretty plainly, and he always answered with a Maybe. He wasn't ready, at the time, to date anyone. That was okay! But it wasn't a no.

And that was fine for a long time, but at a point Lyn caught on that Dice was sleeping with many of his other friends in a fwb capacity -- but never her, even though she'd offer. It was a very normal thing for her to have fwb arrangements with her friends, so it stung a little bit to be rejected in that capacity.

He didn't want to lead her on because he knew that she had feelings for him, and that could get very complicated extremely fast, but he didn't really talk that through with her in a way that she understood that he was coming from that absolutely understandable angle.

Then she noticed he was starting to get pretty close to Dyra, and there was a point where Dyra caught her at the Clinic and told Lyn that if Lyn wanted her to she would stop pursuing Dice in a romantic way which sucked. That was never Lyn's call to make, and Lyn told her as much. But that was when Lyn kind of started to assume that the 'Maybe' she was getting was more of a 'No'. She never asked for more clarity there from him.

So she went to talk to Dice and ask him why he wasn't interested in her in a fwb capacity (because, again, normal to her with her past friendships) and kind of vent about how that made her feel.

But it came across like she was only interested in his friendship if they were more physically intimate -- and that's always been one of his big issues with how people treat him. He got to vent about how that made him feel, especially coming from her.

Lyn felt really bad about it. Still does. Both of their feelings got hurt, and Lyn did what she does best when emotional conflict comes up: get the fuck out. She's never been good at remediation and just kind of figured it would be better for everybody if she just stayed away.

So anyway! Big mess! But now it's been (technically, with the time skip) like five or six years since that all fell out and they're in different places in their lives. Maybe things will be a little more repaired, even if they will probably never be as close as they were previously, in time.

Taking from what you said in the bingo card, would teaching him how to ride a horse count as a plot for a thread? Listen, things could go south in a battlefield and it would do good for Zech to know how to ride one if it was necessarily. Or he can just sit behind Lyn and let her ride the horse and he off heads with his sword? (Listen, Zech what if i offered you a casual horse ride and idle chat? bonding hours in nature? y/y?)

We could circle back to the 'scars' on him idea? She's curios because how can a person get this many when he is 'young'. Being sensitive and sympathetic to people's pain, it probably eat at her to know if she can help in a way. Knowing Lyn, she can be a bit pushy but she will back off to give him his personal space. Though Zech can spot her giving him the 'talk to me if you want, friend' look.

Perhaps in her world thread? A mission back in her world and Zech is picked by summoner to go with Lyn and the gang because he asked or Summoner thought he would be an asset in battle. Zech can learn first hand about the dragons and the whole Nergal's plan and what happened to Lyn's tribe?

or we can do a normal idle chat thread? opening up about some traumatic events--like how her tribe got killed, her parents and how she lost everything in one night. nudge nudge at zech, tell her more about yourself. does he have a dream? she does! want to hear about it?

relationship wise, I don't mind if it goes into romantic department but they are both on the hurty side, it will definitely take some time. Plus, she is a stubborn lady and looking at how Zech tend to 'act nice guy' it might ruffle some of her 'I can handle myself' feathers, the whole misunderstanding because she tends to quickly be defensive about her abilities and being a woman lol. she got dismissed so quickly after all from her tribe who survived the slaughter so it is something will be in the back of her mind forever. it is not something that will go away with time. Even with Zech's reassurance, it comes and goes from time to time, so they both need to play the patient game with each other lol.

Rokurou

Listen, Rokurou is a daemon--a yaksha, war daemon. If he sensed that Zech is strong then he will come and ask for a match. A swordsman's pride is being unparalleled so count on him to keep bothering Zech to fight him. In which verse though? In yours or his or we can make up something that works for the both of them yehaw.

This could go into the 'oops did I summon a daemon?' kind of idea. Dunno how it will work with Zech but perhaps someone tried to curse Zech and instead, they unable him to have a demon buddy lol. (slides maybe some f/ate at you if you are interested.)

Another idea, similarly, Zech might have broken rokurou's seal and awakened him. Technically, he could have been trapped by a mage because he kept wrecking havoc trying to find fighters to fight against. Basically, terrorizing people until someone put a spell on him to trap him in some sort of eternal sleep. you unlocked the grand prize, now he will follow you because (idk how to repay you so imma follow you and destroy your foes for you, buddy. wanna grab some drinks, too? let me check that sword for you--I'll have you know, I know a thing or two about smithy.)

Their relationship is definitely wonky. Looking at how zero morale compass Roku can be (at times), it might push some buttons for Zech. At least, he can trust that Roku will honor his word if they had some sort of agreement. Listen, rokurou is old school, you do him a solid favor, he will pay it back no matter what.

Zack

I remember I had a small thread with sora and she was eyes emoji at him like Serge and hes like who dis? and shes like my sister's late boyfriend and yeah. would zeck be looking for sora and maybe zack helps him? another mission for the 1st class soldier! lol

If zech has a F/F 7 verse then would they be soldiers together? if so, the two can be on a mission together and they cause chaos together lol. if not, he found himself in gaia (like he always get kicked into other realms) and perhaps is mercenary and does what it needs to gather info and there walks zack who is willing to yap info if you became his friend lol.

Their relationship is definitely buddies! whether zech want to admit it or not, Zack will get another big bro figure. sparkle eyes at him to teach him the cool moves he got and tell him more about the adventures he went through. come on man, dont be a wet blanket! nudge nudge you like him, dont you? eh? eh? positive reinforcement from one puppy! give zech diabetes for having an innocent(?) puppy guy around lol.

Lucy Tonks the Mudblood of Slytherin is originally from our world, somewhat remembers the books/movies. She's set out to save as many people as she can... but in the process she becomes kinda very powerful and morally ambiguous and really, there's a LOT of murder in here. Also Sirius with a flaming sword and mildly unhinged Regulus

About the post you reblogged about canon complaint fics. Fire Emblem is a fountain of ideas for compliant fics due to the narrative structure of the games in which supports and romances are often done in three or four "conversations" but we all know it's basically the script of the relationships and therefore more happened between such events, letting the player to fill the blanks. Therefore most fics that don't contradict canon are indeed canon compliant (as long the authors or developers don't release information that contradict it) so I need to disagree overall with the person who said that fics are often divergent by nature. If depends very much of the fandom. In my experience Fire Emblem fanbase is a 50/50, considering that half of the fics on ao3, for example, are one shot smut that can't be necessarily considered canon compliant as there's no heavy plot lol but most heavily plot oriented long fics follow the canon specifically.

That must have been in tags and I don't recall who said it, but I'd imagine that that person was thinking of fanfic in general which does indeed proceed from a postmodern, decentralized conception of the relationship between author, text, and audience. Death of the author is a foundational principle of transformative fandom, in other words, regardless of how canon-compliant any given piece of fanwork claims to be. This is especially true when canon is vague or inconsistent, leading to disagreement among fans over what it actually says which as an example is how we got to the entrenched factions of the Three Houses fandom. That aside however, it's impossible not to bring something of one's own preferences and biases to fanfic - or meta, for that matter - even when aiming to be canon-compliant. For instance, I emphasize queer subtext in much of my own meta, but people who aren't interested in that kind of content or who have a motive of their own in making alternative readings, ex. a rival ship, or opposition to a character based in part on their perceived alignment with conservative attributes *cough*Dimitri*cough*, will disregard or deny that subtext as they deem fit. This easily applies to fanfic as well, in the characters and ships and genres of fic a person is drawn to reading and writing about.

Regarding Fire Emblem specifically, it's always had a lot of space in its text to spin stories in different directions. At least some plotless smut fics could be described as canon-compliant from a transformative perspective if not from a meta-writing one; for example, there's nothing in canon to suggest that furtive teenage sex wasn't a part of Dimitri and Dedue's four years of intense trauma bonding prior to the start of the game, which is suitable fodder for technically canon-compliant fic even if I wouldn't be able to use it to make any kind of definitive claims regarding their (canon) sexualities because it's still a form of divergence from the heteronormative assumption that every character is straight unless they have a romantic S rank with same-sex Byleth. On the flip side, personalized retellings of FE main stories have been popular as a fic genre at least since the mid-2000s, when FFN.net was inundated by personal spins on Lyn's story in FE7 that usually included pairing her with that game's proto-Avatar tactician. This kind of story has only become even more popular with the introduction of actual designated self-insert Avatars, and as these are effectively the authors' OCs when they appear in fic their characterization can be quite revealing of the writer's interests and priorities - which is where the divergence comes in.

The Three Houses author who many of us over here have been criticizing has been from what I've seen quite open about what from his personal life he's been bringing to his work. The trouble is that he appears to lack the self-awareness to distinguish between his own biases and what's actually in the script of Three Houses, on top of a lack of understanding that meta and fanfic differ significantly from one another - in their assumed approaches to canon, in their expected levels of objectivity, and in how audiences engage with them. The result is an Edeleth novelization of CF that claims to also be meta (and is taken as such by a group of Redditors, a demographic that typically engages less with transformative fanwork) and presumably canon-compliant as his fandom faction sees it even though it's as much a reflection of the author's subjective experience as all those Lyn/Tactician fics or indeed pretty much any FE Avatar-centric fanwork. That his fic diverges so heavily from canon - and in ways that are often offensive especially when paired with the author's performatively progressive slant - while being held up as objective and compliant to (an observably flawed) canon is what bothers people, I think.

She’s All That (1999)

What makes a movie good isn’t merely convincing performances, a story that generates an emotional response, meeting the audience’s expectations, and proper filmmaking techniques. A good movie does those things, and more. If you're happy with "adequate", watch She’s All That. It’s a no-bells, no-whistles version of My Fair Lady minus all the personality.

Zackary “Zack” Siler (Freddie Prinze Jr.) is a shoo-in for prom king in six weeks. When his equally popular and attractive girlfriend Taylor Vaughan (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe), dumps him, Zack says he can find another future prom queen no problem. His friend Dean Sampson, Jr. (Paul Walker) challenges him to turn dorky, unpopular art student Laney Boggs (Rachael Leigh Cook) into a hottie.

Haven’t we seen this movie already? It feels like it. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Most romantic comedies, fairy tales, etc. follow a general formula. What makes you prefer one over the other are the details, the little quirks that make the characters unique, memorable lines you quote to your friends, favorite moments, instances where the formula is turned on its head, or even the imperfections everyone acknowledges then moves past. She’s All That has none of those and isn’t self-aware enough to make this work in its favor.

It's the cinematic equivalent of a hotdog with ketchup… and nothing else on it. You can’t help compare this 1999 film to My Fair Lady. Its equivalent of Zack had personality. This guy? He’s amiable and bland. You won’t have any reservations about him and Laney getting together. Actually, there’s no reason for them not to. On their first date, he clearly shows genuine interest in her, so much that when the inevitable shocking reveal about the bet comes around, you expect her to listen to his apology and accept it no problem. Particularly after he befriends her brother, Simon (Kieran Culkin), and then defends him from school bullies. He turns against him too eventually, which is even less convincing.

As expected, Laney Boggs isn’t really a dork, and she isn’t unpopular for any convincing reason. She’s merely a pair of contacts and a new hairdo away from being a showstopper. If anything more drastic were required, there’s no way the film’s timeline of six weeks would work. I realize that’s the premise but once Laney’s glasses come off, they never come back on and it doesn’t feel like Zack’s done anything to get her to open up and make new friends either. Once done-over, she fits in perfectly with the upper-class high-school clique, which makes you question some of the "earth-shattering" truths she encounters on the road from ugly duckling to swan. So what if Zack’s ex is mean to her? Why does she take it out on him?

The picture is consistently short of what it could be. The leads are appealing enough, there are some occasionally funny moments, the premise has a certain timeless appeal. It’s just missing that something something. My favorite scene - a long dance sequence set at the prom - serves no purpose. Matthew Lillard’s character - as entertaining as he is - could've been removed entirely. You won’t be sorry if you sit down and watch She’s All That but you won’t remember it down the line either. BACKGROUND

          -   a life well lived was what kaitlyn got. born to two sixteen year olds, kaitlyn was soon enough taken from her birth parents to be adopted. being taken in by a couple who were some what rich, she got the life she deserved.

- with her adoptive parents giving her love and affection growing up, she didn't have to worry about anything.  when she turned seven, kaitlyn was enrolled into dance classes. it would be that first dance class that made her fall in love with dancing in general.

- with ballet classes every week, and to also school, she had a tight schedule. and same schedule continued when she entered high school too. though not as much.  during her high school years, she wanted to have fun. and also participate in after school activities. that included cheerleading.

- aside from cheerleading, kaitlyn made sure to keep her grades up. studying as often as she could. come time for graduation, she graduated in the top ten of her class.  when it came to college, with her position in Julliard secured, she packed her stuff up and headed for new york.  for the first year, she lived in campus in the dorms.

- after that, she got her own apartment with the help of her parents. for the remainder of her years, coming to a total of four years, she focused on learning the different styles of dance. as well as putting on end of the year performances too.

- come her final year, she put all of her effort into the end of year performance. with having the lead role, she focused on her performance. it was also during that time though that she wanted to find her birth parents. after graduation, she started the search. waiting for a month, she finally got the information she needed.

-italy. they had moved to italy.  packing her stuff up after explaining what she was doing to her adopted parents, she went to italy. finding them in volterra, she ended up staying for a  bit to get to know them. though after a few months, she officially bought herself a studio apartment there.

- it was also around the time of meeting her birth parents that she discovered her ability, weather manipulation. after coming across a drunk man who was scaring her, it caused it to rain ice over the area. that alone freaked her out. but with the help of her birth mom, she learned to control it as well as hide it.

- two years after moving there, she opened her own dance studio, as well as join the la scala theatre ballet. did it take her out of volterra sometimes? yes. but she was willing to do it. it wasn't often though that she did go to milan.

A   :   AFFECTION.   how does your muse show affection?

Vocally and physically. Vocally generally comes first. Caspar is generally very upfront with his emotions and attentions, at least until he starts wondering if his own feelings start wandering into romantic territory. However, he's something of a motor-mouth, so if the topic starts unrelated but then veers towards the romantic, you might find he actually has entertained the idea of spending his entire life with you, of traveling with you to see all the things or fighting side by side with you forever. Call him out on it, though, and he will get embarrassed, possibly to the point of trying vainly to deny it.

B   :   BOUQUET.   does your muse like flowers? which ones are their favorite?

Floral adornments are canonically one of Caspar’s disliked gifts. Something something too girly, I suppose? Or they’re too fragile and he’ll either ruin or neglect them. He understands the sentiment behind them if given them as a gift and does have a reasonable(?) eye for giving them if he must (question mark because the flowers he gave Celica and Hubert were not the most positively received, but the ones he gave Lyn for instance were better thought out), but otherwise will nearly never think of them at all. If you must give him a flower, at least make it big and/or multicolored and/or dramatically shaped. Maybe then it’ll hold his interest for longer than it takes him to put it in a vase and forget about it.

D   :   DATE.   what is your muse’s ideal date? where / who with / etc?

Spending time with his significant other, especially if it involves traveling, doing something new, or enjoying nature. He lives for the energy, but a peaceful day/night out in the landscape is a great little diversion. Emphasis on “diversion” as a temporary thing: Caspar would hate “taking it easy” and sitting back doing nothing for life. I feel like his idea of a good retirement (from war) is to become village protector or commander of a decent- (but not army-) sized group - anything with diverse and colorful terrain (or at least a big sprawling field) and lots to do. Crowds fuel him, be they friends, classmates, coworkers, students, children, or what have you. He’ll even take rivals too. Favorite known places to settle down probably include Bergliez (of course), Enbarr, or Deirdru. He could do Fhirdiad too, but Faerghus is cold; thus, that city is probably lowest on his faves list. I think I kinda got off-track here, but this is also a developing area for us. x)

F   :   FLIRT.   is your muse good at flirting? how do they flirt?

No, or accidentally only. Caspar can’t even recognize when someone is flirting at him (everything feels like getting teased instead, it seems XD), but he can be a competent smooth talker when the mood strikes him (do I need to name the same two supports again?). he also seems to be a pretty quick learner in this regard, though the only actual support I have for this is Living on a Prayer--everywhere else he does anything overtly romantic/sensual is when he and the partner are already in an established relationship, I think. (Still gotta work up enough prequel to justify that infamous kabedon, lol.)

G   :   GIFT.   is your muse good at gift - giving or do they struggle to get it right?

Caspar does try, but sometimes he forgets to ask point-blank/enough about other people’s likes (and dislikes) and so has to fall back on what he’s figured or guessed about the person through other interactions. His gifts are usually well-received, or at least he doesn’t want to tell me about any instances in which he’s given a bad gift. (Sometimes he leans on me to get a little extra info XD Hi Inigo.) Beware the prank gift, though - those can be horrid(ly entertaining and/or high-effort). See every Midsommar water-bucket prank, his high-effort prank to Azura, or his infamous one to Lorenz.

H   :   HEART.   is your muse quick or slow to give their heart away?

In an explicitly romantic context, Caspar is both slow and quick to give away his heart and to just one person, mostly because he can’t seem to tell when someone is being romantic with him most times or when he is falling in love with them. It probably happens sooner than he realizes or initially acknowledges. However, he’s loyal to a fault regarding his friends; and the more comfortable he is with someone, the more likely it is he’ll seek them out or spend hours of the day with them (currently, Linhardt is the biggest benefactor here). Spend enough time with them, and you may well be the one he subconsciously gives his heart to~

J   :   JEALOUSY.   does your muse get jealous in a relationship?

Highly subject to change given Caspar doesn’t have an established relationship in TOA canon right now (both relationships he does have are currently marked as war phase AU), but yes, he gets jealous. As with any other distressing topic (e.g. his dad’s involvement in Petra’s dad’s death), he tends to keep his jealousy to himself (though it leaks out in the way his behavior around especially his partner and possibly everything else is a bit hastier and angrier) until forced (term used liberally) to confess. Based on LoP and slightly on his lines upon being denied transferring classes or being killed in battle, following confession to the object of his jealousy, his thoughts would be largely if not entirely self-destructive: I wasn’t good enough; I was never good enough; will I ever be good enough for anything if I couldn’t be good enough for them? Having not further explored this topic previously, I feel like this sense of inadequacy is the single most likely thing to take all the wind out of his sails: He’ll live simply by going through the motions of it; his once-bright eyes will be dull; and good luck getting him out of his funk by any means other than helping him find a new reason to go on. Duty might not cut it at this point; he might need something more personal.

K   :   KISS.   is your muse a good kisser? why / why not?

I only think he’s not good at kissing. Apparently Caspar has other ideas. In all seriousness, though, he’ll be incredibly awkward at it the first few times around (see Amy’s and Hilda’s first kisses), but he’s a quick learner with a great memory for the physical and kinesthetic. He may just surprise you with his boldness...

L   :   LOVE.   who does your muse love?

Depends both on the verse and on either how well I can build him towards it or how quickly he realizes, on his own or with the partner’s help, that he’s in love. ... Typically when I think about this sort of thing, the pre- and post-established relationship parts are the first thing that occur to me; buildup/courtship/etc. are a giant blank. Currently, he loves Linhardt in CF and Hilda in VW. He/I haven’t made any effort to build any other potentially romantic relationships with him yet, but based off game events, but there are about half a dozen possibilities among in-game characters throughout the houses, and I can’t exclude transfer students either.

O   :   ODE.   does your muse have a way with words?

Linhardt seems to think so XD Caspar will never win any awards for prettiness of prose or voice, but he’ll always tell it like it is: simply, honestly, and straightforward. He’s too blunt to deal in poetry (let alone manipulation by any means other than puppy-dog eyes), but he has his moments, usually when he’s channeling his magnificent insight, trying to cheer someone up. Far more common for him to have different moments entirely though... aka put his entire foot in his mouth, even when he’s trying to console a friend.

P   :   PARTNER.   what does your muse look for in a partner? looks / personality?

Also subjective, but let’s see... Caspar would want someone who will put up with him even if he gets a little wild at times. Someone who won’t mind him protecting them (though he won’t say no to someone who can protect themselves either, given his usual favored activities and line of work). Someone who won’t tie him down with expectations he can’t meet or rules he must abide by, who lets him live as he wants and even join him on this crazy ride of coupled life. Someone who understands him, even when he doesn’t understand himself, who will be there when he needs them most. As far as appearances, though, I can’t tell if Caspar has a type. Every one of his most likely love interests look so different...

Q   :   QUESTION.   would your muse ask the big question or expect their partner to?

I can’t tell, but I suspect that since “the question” (of marriage, presumably) comes well after a confession of love, Caspar, being the passionate and high-energy dork he is, would pop the question first. Then again, he knows this is a big decision and doesn’t want to mess this up, so he’ll probably take a while to figure out the “perfect way” to say it... which may well result in some of his pensiveness showing on his face, his partner inquiring after its source, and him bum-rushing (after putting up less resistance than he’d like) into blurting out “the question” and forgoing all his elaborate plans. XD

R   :   ROMANCE.   is your muse a romantic or a cynic?

Given those extremes, definitely a romantic. He has a storybook vision of how love is supposed to go and an overactive imagination to magnify it further. It’s as easy for Caspar to run his mouth on this topic as any other, and he gets actively embarrassed when caught baring his romantic notions like a sap, e.g. with Shamir (most blatantly) or Dorothea (when her teasing catches him off-guard because his imagination ran ahead of her). He can be a cynic in some regards... but none of them relate to romance.

S   :   SWEETHEART.   did your muse have a childhood sweetheart?

Hard to say. Most everybody gets coded as various levels of friend, so whether Caspar realizes if “bestest friend ever” actually means “childhood sweetheart” is a mystery. That said, the only person who might qualify as that is Linhardt...

U   :   UNREQUITED.   has your muse had their heart broken?

Currently, he’s too oblivious/naive in love to have had his heart broken. Not a difficult feat to accomplish when everyone is a “friend” until they tell him otherwise. Once he gets into a relationship, long-term jealousy and any other egregious breach, e.g. spending way too much time with somebody else clear up to cheating on him. is highly likely to do it to him.

V   :   VALENTINE.   how does your muse feel about valentine’s day?

“Candy!!! Oh, I guess couples are kissing too. Bit weird that they’re doing it out in public, but that’s their right, I suppose. I wonder if I’ll ever have someone to kiss like that?”

W  :   WEDDING.   would your muse get married? why / why not?

Having not previously thought on this topic... He would, readily. However, if his partner isn’t up for traveling all over the place, he might end up being a bit of an absentee spouse or parent. Most likely sin would be giving his loved ones too many “things” instead of himself/his time for making memories - and that would be almost entirely by accident, since he wouldn’t even think that he’s doing it (or at least the over-gifting) wrong unless prompted by his spouse.

X   :   XOXO.   does your muse use / like pet names?

Maybe? Not really? If he does, he only tends to use shortened versions of their names (e.g. Lin instead of Linhardt) rather than something more creative (e.g. honey/dear), but not everybody’s names can be so conveniently shortened (e.g. Hilda), and he always uses everybody’s full name (or title, e.g. Father not Dad) in-game. It’s a pretty good step up if he makes and uses a nickname on you. That said, in the manakete!AU I have with Linhardt, he’ll actively refer to him as “tyke”, “kid”, or “child” because that’s what he looked like to him when they first met as humans.

Y   :   YOURS.   does your muse get protective easily?

Oh boy. In the short and “monogamous” term, Caspar will protect any part of his partner that needs protecting - mind, body (or part), soul, honor, you name it. He would offer to walk his spouse home at night or worry after their safety if they’re gone from him too long (being a military child + a morning person, I imagine Caspar is good with time and probably not above setting time limits/a curfew if need be). In a broader sense - Caspar is used to being the brave, strong, upbeat one, the rock to which drowning souls can cling to, the shield behind which everyone else can take refuge. He is, emotionally and physically, a protector; he knows that an unshakable confidence and faith are as effective as a stout body in keeping others safe. According to LoP, his protective streak can and does run all the way out to sacrificing himself for his friends - he can’t stand the thought of things going the other way around. I need to explore this further, but some combination of heroic notions, his father’s stories/actions/fate (especially in non-CF routes), and a well-buried worthlessness/inferiority complex from having never lived up to his father’s precise ideals for him and/or having always worked so hard for so little recognition (see: Julian’s existence, his failure to inherit his family’s title anywhere outside of CF except when marrying Annette, and a teatime line (“They say hard work pays off, but I don’t think that’s always true”)) quite clearly make him think he’s expendable. Caspar hardly ever expresses such negative thoughts and in keeping with his (self-imposed) role as the army’s morale-booster, he’ll put a positive spin even on his own gnawing thoughts. There’s one post in LoP where Caspar tries very hard to stay happy for Linhardt, even though they’ve both just vented all their fatal worries about their fates in the war. Even dying, knowing he’s doing so because he lost/bit off more than he could chew/failed, he refuses to let others worry about him. (”Don't worry about me... I always knew...losing meant death... “)

Possibly subject to change, but - no one besides whoever he commits to. After all, sleeping with anyone else usually involves casual relationships (which I can’t really see Caspar going for under most circumstances) or lying to your SO about doing it (and he explicitly hates lies).
