I've never spoken to Aphrodite until today. Before I even knew who was knocking, my intuition said it was her, but I still went through the whole process of verifying
Sweet merciful heavens is she very direct in her communication. It felt less like a tarot reading and more like she was actually sitting down and talking to me at points. She even put relevant music in my head at one point. When I asked her to clarify a card, she gave me the same card in each of the other suits and an ace with the same meaning. Like, no room for misunderstandings. Then she gave me a pep talk
I just, holy shit?
#don't worry about why she's here I'm just basking in such clear conversation#she said she doesn't plan on staying around after what she has planned#but I feel like my Godphone got upgraded from a tin can on a string to a smartphone#I hope it stays like this??#sword speaks

*sighs heavily and drags hands down face* Windows XP was released in 2001. Which means it could be, and was used by, children born in the 1990s. The oldest of whom are now only 34, which, let me be the first to assure y'all, is still pretty young (and if you don't think so, go hang out in a fandom where the average age is 70). Plus, since Vista wasn't released until 2006, the oldest Gen Z kids used XP as well.
(And, fyiy, it's entirely possible that '90s kids didn't even have this OS for a while, and started out on something like, say, Windows 95. Which I did. And, yes, I was born in 1990.)
Darn it, now I just miss XP.

#I maybe don't like it when a thing is purported to be Old TM and it's just... something that was part of my childhood#not because “oh I don't want to be old!” I have other sources for that#but because I am still not that old; and let me tell YOU that none of my siblings are#and even the youngest knows what a videotape is#personal#I think we forget about the longevity of many things in today's world of smartphone upgrades#I'm too tired to have a proper thesis for this tho sorry

I don't know I'm not done talking about it. It's insane that I can't just uninstall Edge or Copilot. That websites require my phone number to sign up. That people share their contacts to find their friends on social media.
I wouldn't use an adblocker if ads were just banners on the side funding a website I enjoy using and want to support. Ads pop up invasively and fill my whole screen, I misclick and get warped away to another page just for trying to read an article or get a recipe.
Every app shouldn't be like every other app. Instagram didn't need reels and a shop. TikTok doesn't need a store. Instagram doesn't need to be connected to Facebook. I don't want my apps to do everything, I want a hub for a specific thing, and I'll go to that place accordingly.
I love discord, but so much information gets lost to it. I don't want to join to view things. I want to lurk on forums. I want to be a user who can log in and join a conversation by replying to a thread, even if that conversation was two days ago. I know discord has threads, it's not the same. I don't want to have to verify my account with a phone number. I understand safety and digital concerns, but I'm concerned about information like that with leaks everywhere, even with password managers.
I shouldn't have to pay subscriptions to use services and get locked out of old versions. My old disk copy of photoshop should work. I should want to upgrade eventually because I like photoshop and supporting the business. Adobe is a whole other can of worms here.
Streaming is so splintered across everything. Shows release so fast. Things don't get physical releases. I can't stream a movie I own digitally to friends because the share-screen blocks it, even though I own two digital copies, even though I own a physical copy.
I have an iPod, and I had to install a third party OS to easily put my music on it without having to tangle with iTunes. Spotify bricked hardware I purchased because they were unwillingly to upkeep it. They don't pay their artists. iTunes isn't even iTunes anymore and Apple struggles to upkeep it.
My TV shows me ads on the home screen. My dad lost access to eBook he purchased because they were digital and got revoked by the company distributing them. Hitman 1-3 only runs online most of the time. Flash died and is staying alive because people love it and made efforts to keep it up.
I have to click "not now" and can't click "no". I don't just get emails, they want to text me to purchase things online too. My windows start search bar searches online, not just my computer. Everything is blindly called an app now. Everything wants me to upload to the cloud. These are good tools! But why am I forced to use them! Why am I not allowed to own or control them?
No more!!!!! I love my iPod with so much storage and FLAC files. I love having all my fics on my harddrive. I love having USBs and backups. I love running scripts to gut suck stuff out of my Windows computer I don't want that spies on me. I love having forums. I love sending letters. I love neocities and webpages and webrings. I will not be scanning QR codes. Please hand me a physical menu. If I didn't need a smartphone for work I'd get a "dumb" phone so fast. I want things to have buttons. I want to use a mouse. I want replaceable batteries. I want the right to repair. I grew up online and I won't forget how it was!

90% UK schools ban mobile phone use, survey shows
Most schools in England have banned the use of mobile phones during school hours, according to the first national study of its kind, as concerns grow about the negative impact of smartphones on young people’s wellbeing.
The study, commissioned by the Children’s Commissioner for England, Rachel de Souza, found that 99.8 per cent of primary schools and 90 per cent of secondary schools have implemented some form of mobile phone ban.
The findings suggest that school leaders are determined to restrict pupils’ access to smartphones in educational institutions.
Daniel Kebede, general secretary of the National Education Union (NEU), strongly supported the legislative ban, saying it would ease the burden on school heads, teachers and parents.
“My personal view is I would support a statutory ban on mobile phones in schools,” Kebede said. “I think it would alleviate pressure … but also parents.”
Kebede warned of the “detrimental effect” smartphones have on children, especially in exposing them to harmful online activities.
“The average 12-year-old has access to the most hardcore pornography on their mobile phone,” he said. “That is incredibly damaging to the wellbeing of young boys and their perceptions of women and girls, sex and relationships.”
Parents’ concerns about banning mobile phones at school
Parents’ views on the new rules are divided. For example, they are clearly favoured by those parents whose children have suffered online bullying or have some kind of problem with excessive online exposure.
The mother of 16-year-old schoolgirl Brianna Jai, who was killed by two teenagers a year ago, has expressed her opinion. The girl’s mother called for a complete ban not only on phones in schools, but also in general access to social networks for children under the age of 16. The woman is sure that her daughter would be alive if she had not spent too much time on social networks, and her killers would not have had access to content that promotes violence and cruelty.
Other parents are worried that after the new rules are introduced, their children will not be able to contact them in case of any emergency at school and will be left defenceless in dangerous circumstances.

There's no cloud, it's just somebody else's computer...
smartphone storage plateauing in favor of just storing everything in the cloud is such dogshit. i should be able to have like a fucking terabyte of data on my phone at this point. i hate the fucking cloud
#don't get me wrong I fully agree with everything said here#but I like the idea of old man yells at cloud (computer)#I myself got a cheapo smartphone from 2018 with a big ass SD card and I refuse to upgrade#and a phone not having an sd card slot is an instant no buy for me no matter how great all the other ''features'' are

as of march 12th clip studio is on sale celebrating their version 4 release. it's an incredibly powerful drawing program you will NOT regret getting, especially if you want to ditch adobe. the sale ends in 5 days so if you were looking into getting it, now's the time
and since i see this brought up often when i make these posts:
for pc and mac users, there's a perpetual license option; you do NOT have to get a subscription to use clip studio unless you're on an ipad
you can forever own the version of the program you buy; if a future version has things you want, you will be able to upgrade for a discount
future update releases won't make your current version unusable. you simply won't have the features any new release will include. for example, i will not be upgrading from ver 3 to ver 4 because i'm not interested in the new features
pro is for illustrations, character art, concept work; ex has handy tools for comics, webtoons and animation. both can make use of their 3d assets
