Not really important but here we go. It is so funny both English and Japanese reader, some of them think maybe Dawner still not realized Dee=Twilight, more thought Twilight is Dee's fiance or sister lmao. My workplace, which became a Crowdstrike client all of three weeks ago, is now down to one bricked desktop in a nonessential location. Did I spend all Friday morning in our IT dept teams chat and typing in bitlocker codes? Why yes I did.

I know very little about computers and even less about programming, but I have been using most windows operating systems for long enough that if someone gives me basic directions I can follow them pretty well. I'm the on-site IT person by process of elimination - everyone else here knows even less.

Because my company is incredibly chill and non-corporate, for all its corporate trappings, things like this are mostly an excuse to chatter on a Teams channel for a few hours while waiting for the bitlocker codes to be dolled out, because the guys I'm talking with are also married to friends of mine but everyone lives across the country from me (and right now in a different country.) I can in fact just give everyone the admin logins and know this is fine to do - I cannot imagine what solving this was like in a workplace that didn't have this level of mutual trust and cooperation and coworkers willing to get up at 3 AM on a Friday to start pulling codes.

Once again, Facebook has proven that no nice deeds go unpunished.

In my country, we have an ID identifier which will be updated late May and the developers have posted a reminder to everyone about it and essentially said that some old smartphones won't be able to handle the update (we're talking smartphones as old as iPhone 5) so people must either upgrade their smartphone or order a free code reader.

Some people in the comments of the article expressed confusion due to their age, so I wrote a comment and simplified it down to just a few sentences to help those who were struggling to understand what was going on and what to do.

Cue an old man saying: "So it is only to increase spending and buy things we don't need, gotcha!"

I further explain the article and try to inform him that this ID identifier has to be updated in order to keep it safe. And that smartphone technology does get old and won't work forever; that's just how that works. And let me remind you, it's OLD smartphones from more than a decade ago.

And then the dude starts mansplaining to me how they should have made smartphones differently, and how they're earning money off of us (which the developers of the ID identifier don't, they earn nothing from us buying new smartphones - also there's a free option with the code reader that the developers are offering so... no forced purchases here) And he has the AUDACITY to end his comment with:

"All these updates aren't necessary, and that's very simple and easy to understand. That you don't understand that is fine."

I've written another comment where I'm matching his attitude. Gonna be fun to see this boomer lose his mind and continue talking down to me, who was legit just trying to give a simple explanation to those who didn't understand what was going on.
