Hi there! I’m so sorry you had a rough December, and hope you’re feeling better! 💜
For the emoji ask, maybe 🦅 and/or 🧠 (headcanon for Q) if you feel so moved?
Hello! Happy New Year! I did have a rough December, but I am feeling a lot better now. I hope you are doing well too!
Thanks for the asks!
🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?
I guess it kind of depends on what you mean by "outline". If you mean, do I know everything that will happen (every convo, plot point, etc) then no. But I do think of where I want to start and where I want to end. I also sometimes have ideas for the in-between things: maybe a scene that came to me very early on that I wrote and now have to find a place for (actually, this is a lot of the time...I write a scene and go: I should make a story around this snippet of dialogue, and then I'm cursed to never finish anything ever).
The only fic where I'm doing a little bit more "outlining" is with my After Midnight series, because there is a linear movement to the stories, and I need to publish them in order. So I have things in drafts that are numbered so I know where to put them in the series :)
🧠 Pick a character, and I’ll tell you my favorite headcanon for them. (Q) I'm really bad at these headcanon things… hmmm I really do like the whole idea that Q is into technology and very good about using it/creating it/manipulating it but doesn't really use it at home. Like, he understands how much a risk a smart home can be, so keeps everything pretty analog. Pretty much summing up this tweet, where Q is the tech worker:
#ask meme#honestly tho I am the tech worker in this tweet#all of my friends have smart houses and I refuse to even put a google home in my house or use one of those ring doorbell things#the smartest thing I own is my phone and if i could i'd put it in a Faraday cage when I'm not using it#working in tech has made me paranoid i guess#queue branch

I am actively working against the smartening of my home. No. No Smart Home. This is a Dumb Home. It will remain a Dumb Home as long as I can manage it. My Dumb Home is a cozy place. I don't need an app for that or this, and especially that over there. Why do you want my appliances to talk to me? What meaningful conversation will we have? I already know the milk's almost gone.
The only appliance or device I'm okay with talking to me is the fire alarm and O2 sensor and only then to tell me there's a problem.
#i am smart enough to run my own appliances#thank you kindly#as for smart doorbells 'n such#gonna need better cyber security first#also!#i have watched too many movies about what happens when smart houses go Wrong#do not need that kind of drama#do not want that kind of drama#kthnksby

I'm pretty sure most people would just assume they're hallucinating, too
One of the reasons the walrus-versus-fairy thing was so contentious is that not only did the person who originally posed the question strongly believe the correct answer was obviously the fairy, their reasoning for why the fairy was obviously more surprising was that seeing a fairy would instantly refute the validity of human reason as a tool for understanding the universe and bring your entire worldview crashing down. The sensible response is, of course, to point out that people don't work like that, and realistically nobody is going to see something mildly inexplicable and fall to their knees wailing in existential despair unless we're living in an H P Lovecraft novel, but I'm not gonna lie, I'd probably pay money to read a story about a dude having a full on Lovecraft protagonist breakdown in response to seeing Tinkerbell.
#what the fuck? how did this fucker get here? there's not any zoos close to my house#and even the zoos that are in the city. I'm pretty sure none of them have walruses. also how did it get all the way over here?#why specifically to my house? how did it rang the doorbell? is this a supernaturally smart walrus?#what do I do? do I call 911? animal control? I don't know the phone number for animal control#also there's way less questions raised when I see the fairy#with the fairy it's simple: “oh magic is real. cool. how may I help you. magic friend?”#with the walrus it's like:
