ok tbh im kinda over the way people talk about the north american contact plagues because prior to the invention of modern medicine its not that big a deal to have massive swathes of your population wiped out in a plague. there are isolated tribes today with no modern medicine with like two or three such plagues literally in living memory. the same thing had just happened in europe like 200 years prior with the black plague, and we may well see it happen again in our lifetime with cuts to the fda etc. generally, a civilisation is capable of weathering a plague.

what the US did was use its knowledge of (early) modern medicine. smalpox can be spread by blankets? good to know. they did that, they decimated the social systems of the people they were colonising, they claimed exclusive right to practice medicine, and they developed their own medicine as mostly a tool for genocide which it remains today. people who routinely undergo plagues have heavy oral literature on what to do in that situation, which is a start, but they couldn't do any of that shit, because that's how genocide works. so whether we're talking smallbox back in the day or alcoholism and diabetes today the US is deliberately causing plagues among its native populations and making it impossible for them to do anything about it.

the plagues arent WHY the natives lost militarily, they're BECAUSE they lost militarily and couldn't safeguard their rights to practice medicine etc.

some amount of contact plague may be inevitable but certainly not that much.

and once one does come, if you're not trying to genocide people, what you do is you give them information and medical support and vaccines and shit.

so no there was absolutely genocidal intent behind this and genocidal intent stays behind this when we continue acting like vaccines and a real medical response are not possible for isolated tribes which regularly undergo plagues anyway, contact or no contact.

and if people are kept in a position of such intense vulnerability that sime dipshit tourist can get lost in the woods and become a superspreader event thats a government failure.

You have to "edit html" and then press "ctrl f" to use the search, usually i put in something like "canon 1" "canon 2" and that will take you to this sort of <!--CANON 1 SMALLBOX START--> and you want to copy everything from there to when it says smallbox end. and then paste it at the end of all the smallboxes. Be careful about the </div>s though, look at how all the smallboxes are written to make sure you're not copying too many <div>s. And then oh gosh, to do the link to the full about page..?
