Rio
Duran Duran
The identity of the model whose likeness graced the cover of Duran Duranâs album âRioâ has finally been revealed.
Marcie Hunt-Dinkel, the co-owner of a small winery in Napa, is the woman with the âcherry ice cream smileâ who inspired Patrick Nagelâs artwork for the classic 1982 album, experts confirmed.
The bandâs fans spent decades searching for the original image used by the Playboy illustrator. Over the weekend, Mark Walker, a Nagel expert, and art broker Monica Moynihan, a fan of the artist, announced their discovery on Instagram.

all my friends support palestine and know neil druckmann is a zionist
A Kiss for The Ping Pong Champ (#22)
when manny said he was planning on throwing a party that night, he didnât tell abby that it was gonna be at their apartment. so when she comes back home, covered in mud and twigs from a dumbass mission she willingly signed up for, itâs to a party in full swing and spilling out of their front door. the mission was a basic one and abby got pretty filthy but sheâd take just about anything that means exploring zombie filled treasure troves. her side of the room is steadily filling with books and pins and little trinkets. she had her current âbest find yetâ in the breast pocket of her jacket.
abby first hears the party from the stairwell and she practically stalks towards the front door, tired and irritated but not surprised. manny and abby have both hosted parties in their penthouse apartment plenty of times in varying amounts of success. itâs just abby forgot about it and had made plans with you and now theyâre fucked.
she smiles politely at everyone she walks to her bunk. grabbing her shower caddy and some clean clothes, she sneaks back out and into the communal showers.
twenty minutes later, abby is clean and back in the packed apartment. manny greets her with a wave and she responds with a prominent middle finger and a sarcastic smile. he cackles, startling the girls beside him.
she gets herself a drink and finds some guys from the gym that she sometimes trains with. one of them, joe, was defending his poorly made joke to abby and the others when abby sees movement from the corner of her eye.
âuh excuse me please?â abby fully turns to see you scooting awkwardly past a group of people. you meet her eye and grin, shouldering past the last person and are soon within her reach.
âhi,â you breathe
âhi,â abby echos.
you look around the party. âi didnât know there was gonna be this many people when you asked me to come over. i thought it was just gonna be us ââ
abby itches to touch you. the itch wins and she gently puts a hand on your shoulder. you stop talking.
âi honestly had no idea about the party. iâm just as surprised as you. do you wanna leave?â abby looks up to see where manny is.
âno,â you say a little too quickly. âiâm cool with staying if you are.â
you share a smile.
âok then letâs get you a drink. nothing spectacular but they are interesting.â she leads you over to a table where people are mixing up drinks. she goes past all the mixes and shitty liquor and pulls a small bottle out of a box.
âhere,â she hands it to you. âitâs wine. from 1993. you said wine ages well and youâve been wanting some since last christmas soooâ she trails off and suddenly feels like she shouldnât know that you like wineries and napa valley history and god sheâs so weird but youâre smiling at her so that has to be good sign, right?
âabby, this is amazing! thank you,â is all you say but the relief that fills abby is embarrassing. this time itâs your turn to lead you both to abbyâs little corner in the front of the penthouse. everyone is mostly in the upper stairs area, besides nora and leah who wave at you both as you pass by. you sit down on abbyâs bed and she follows. a silence passes between you as the party becomes ambience. abby remembers her surprise and reaches into her jacketâs breast pocket. she closes her fist around the item and scoots back so her back leans against the wall and her feet hang off the bed. you follow her movement with your eyes. she makes eye contact with you for a brief second. you note that she looks bashful.
âi, uh, found you something while i was out.â
âyeah?â you turn to sit sideways on her bed, one leg tucked under you.
âyou gotta close your eyes first.â you close your eyes and hold your hand out, a big smile on your face. what you canât see is that abby is easily caught off by your smile and almost misses dropping the mysterious item into your hand.
âokay you can open your eyes now.â you do so.
in your hand is a necklace. a long gold chain and a pendant. you untangle the necklace and hold it up. the pendent is the letter of your first name. the necklace as a whole is in pretty good condition with only a little chip on the pendent.
âoh abby,â you look up and see the girl blushing. âthis is so sweet! i love it. thank you.â regardless of how uncomfortable it will be, you lean forward to hug abby tightly. âthank you again, absâ you whisper and kiss her cheek before pulling away.
you quickly undo the clasps and ask abby to put the necklace on you. after a failed attempt of putting it on while sitting, you both stand up. you turn your back to abby and she very ceremoniously places the necklace on you. once itâs clasped you turn back around to face her. you reach up to adjust the pendant so it sits in the middle, by your sternum.
when you look up, abby is already smiling at you. she opens her mouth to say something when someone calls her name.
she rolls her eyes and answers with a reluctant âyeah?â
itâs joe again. âitâs raheemâs birthday and he wants a beer pong rematch.â
âright now? iâm busy.â she glances at you.
âyes now. he heads out on that week long mission tomorrow morning.â
abby closes her eyes and lets her head fall back. itâs raining outside and she can hear the rain above her head. she exhales heavily through her mouth. she looks back at you and you have the most understanding eyes in the world and abby both hates and loves it.
âokay,â she says to joe. âone game and he gets the bad beer and im taking that nice stuff.â
joe holds his hands up. ârighto, captain.â
abby rolls her eyes again. she looks back at you. âthis okay? just one game and theyâll leave me alone.â
you roll your own eyes but thereâs a smile on your lips.
âabs itâs fine. i promise. now go, because i think joe is coming back over here.â
and sure enough he was. abby briefly squeezed your hand before heading up the stairs. you walk over to nora and leah, who have been joined by a happy drunk whitney. they were getting up to join you to watch abby kick reheemâs ass, all of you making up abbyâs cheer squad.
the cups and sacred ping pong balls are already set up. you make sure to stand where abby can see you and you can see her. and she makes sure to wink at you before shooting the first ping pong of the game right into one of raheemâs cups. the boy groans loudly and his friends cheer on abby. abby holds her hands up, shrugging off the attention. you bite your lip to stop smiling at her antics. your eyes catch movement as she pulls up the sleeves of her henley to her forearms, making her arms look even bigger. pulling the sleeves up also shows off her bracelet collection. including one that you made her months ago. sheâs never taken it off so itâs worn and faded. but the sentiment is still there and it makes your heart ache with love for her.
while raheem takes his time aiming, you continue watching abby as she stretches her arms over her head and twists her upper body back and forth. you suddenly remember that abby just came back home from an overnight mission and there were currently over twenty, mostly drunk, people shoved into her apartment. sheâs probably exhausted but putting on a good show for these people that look up to her. you make a mental note to ask her if she wants to come back to your place until the partyâs over. your room is smaller but ten times quieter. you continue to zone out a bit, watching abby while thinking about abby as the game continues in front of you.
unfortunately (but fortunately for you) everyone knew the end score pretty quickly. abby had four out of six cups left on her side while raheem had two left on his. the crowd was engaged in the action like it was a tennis match. manny had even moved to stand beside abby as her right hand man. your eyes stay locked on her.
it was raheemâs turn and everyone watches as his ball hits the rim of the cup but bounces away. the crowd groans for him. abby steps up and without even trying, sinks the ball into the cup closest to raheem. the crowd cheers. raheem goes again and makes it. abby downs the cup and wipes away the little bit that missed her mouth with the back of her hand. she picks up a ball and closes one eye to aim it perfectly before letting it go. the ball arches in the air and lands in its target.
the people cheering for abby lose their minds. manny starts to shake abby excitedly. joe and a few of the other boys from before surround her. you hear manny say something about getting abby âa drink fit for championsâ. you watch abby smile and joke with her friend until the crowd by the alcohol table blocks her from you.
beside you, nora clears her throat. you stop searching for abby and look to nora.
sheâs fighting off a smile.
your brows furrow in confusion. âwhat?â
nora shrugs. âi donât know. i just wanna know when did you get thirsty? where did my innocent friend go?â
âwhat are you talking about?â
âcâmon. you are so obvious. you were practically undressing abby during the whole game. we are in public, girl. have some class,â nora laughs.
you look down. âiâm not undressing her with my eyes,â you mumble. nora scoffs
âi donât know why you are so in denial. you have the girl,â noraâs eyes move over your shoulder. âand speak of the devil and she shall appear. hey abs! congrats on demolishing raheem! i just know heâs going to be sulking about this in the clinic for months.â
abby shrugs. âall in a dayâs work.â she turns to you. âyou okay?â
you smile at her. âyeah iâm fine. nora was just bullying me.â you pout. abbyâs head swivels to nora who has the common sense to be already walking away with leah and whitney shuffling behind her. âitâs fine. it wasnât serious.â
abby looks back towards you. âokayâŠdo you wanna get outta here? i feel like if i stay, someone is gonna wanna challenge me again or something.â
âyeah! i was just gonna ask if you wanted to come to my place? ya know, until the party clears out.â
abby blushes. âyeah iâd love to. let me just grab my bag.â she moves to go down the stairs but stops at your hand grabbing her bicep.
âwait abby?â
she stops a step below you. âyeah?â
she is taller and generally bigger than you because of her muscles but having her be a step down makes it easier for you to cup her face and very gently press your lips to hers.
the gentle kiss is met with abbyâs own passionate response. she reaches for your waist. your hands go from her face to her neck and then down to her shoulders.
you pull away first. âand thatâs a kiss for the ping pong championâ
abby opens her eyes and hums in response. she squeezes your waist and letâs go, walking down the stairs to grab her bag. when she comes back she simply takes your hand in hers and interlaces your fingers.
just like the way she arrived, abby smiles politely at people who say hi but doesnât stop walking until the sounds of the room fade away and she can only hear you and the sounds of both of your feet along the hallway.

Napa winery offers Broadway star Darren Criss fertile setting for intimate outdoor concert
[UHQ] Broadway star Darren Criss performs at Napaâs Carneros Resort and Spa as part of the Broadway and Vine series on Friday, July 28. (Photo by Bob McClenahan)
Broadway star and âGleeâ actor Darren Criss is the latest star to make a compelling case for staging more musical theater events outdoors.
Performing against a backdrop of pink skies and rolling vineyards on Friday, July 28, the San Francisco native and Emmy-winning actor was exceptionally charismatic as he tackled classic show tunes and covered a dizzying array of artists. âWelcome to my wedding,â he joked upon taking the small outdoor stage facing several hundred folding chairs. From there, he was off, serving as a one-man jukebox as his selections veered from British alt-rockers Keane to singer-songwriter royalty Carole King. Between sets, Criss peppered in stories from his strange journey to stardom.
-------------
The intimate outdoor concert provided a perfect opportunity for Criss, best known for the five seasons he spent playing Blaine Anderson on the popular Fox series âGlee,â to formulate a set list that doubled as an autobiography of sorts. At one point, he introduced a cover of âThe Luckiestâ by Ben Folds by explaining that heâd originally intended for it to be his characterâs last song on âGlee.â Itâs hard to say Criss made the wrong choice, given the original number he ultimately wrote (âThis Timeâ) would earn him an Emmy nomination in 2015. But his take on Foldsâ lovelorn ballad, played at the piano, was a breathtaking glimpse into what might have been.
Later, he dusted off âTo Have a Home,â which a small subset of the audience may have recognized as one of the songs Criss penned for a Harry Potter parody musical he made with friends back in 2009. It was a gesture of appreciation to an audience built from many factions of fandoms. By the end of the night, Criss had done an admirable job of catering to as many of them as possible.Â
Alternating between piano and guitar, he managed to imbue every note with a lively joy, be it a take on Tom Petty, his version of âGreaseâ torch song âHopelessly Devoted to You,â or his spot-on Kermit the Frog impression. He even invited fans to make requests of songs his character did on âGlee,â which he then compiled into an improvised medley for his encore.
But the moment that best encapsulated the evening was watching Criss belt a faithful rendition of âSomewhere Over the Rainbowâ as real birds flew past him and merrily chirped away into a backdrop of the Napa Valley sunset.Â
And yet, there was another highlight that may have topped it all, this one in the form of an unexpected guest.
As part of the series, each Broadway and Vine show typically includes a duet or group performance where local students are given a chance to sing alongside their idols. On Friday night, Criss welcomed Amarech Mendez, a 17-year-old student at Burlingameâs Mercy High School, to cover Bob Dylanâs âMake You Feel My Love.â
Arranged in the style of pop singer Adeleâs recent rendition, the presence of Mendez was clearly no favor but a well-earned honor as she belted out her parts with impressive conviction. It was a moment that instantly reminded Susana Gonzalez, 57, of the time her own daughter, Diana, now a student at Stanford, was invited to sing a duet with musical theater star Shoshana Bean in 2021 as part of the Broadway and Vine seriesâ first season.
âThis is a real gift,â Gonzalez said. âJacob is an ambassador, not only to the community but to the kids. It allows them to dream and think about the fact that they can do anything. I mean, where else do you get a performer singing âSomewhere Over the Rainbowâ and get actual birds?â
Nic Meerholz, 40, of Napa, was also impressed with the show, which should be welcome news to Criss, who saw Meerholzâs hand go up twice early in the evening when he asked if anyone in attendance âdidnât give an eff about musical theaterâ and was âdragged here by their partner and has no idea whatâs happening.â
Criss thanked Meerholz for his honesty and dedicated the rest of the show to making a convert of the man.Â
At the conclusion of Crissâ 16-song set, Meerholz confirmed the artist accomplished his mission.
âI came into the show not knowing anything about musicals or Broadway and it was just absolutely fantastic,â he said, â I didnât even know who Darren was. Iâve never watched âGlee.â Nothing. Magical! It was just a magical evening.â

Yamanashi Wine Tours: Discover Japan's Premier Wine Region
If youâre a wine lover seeking a unique and immersive experience, Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan is a must-visit destination. Known as the heart of Japanese wine production, Yamanashi offers breathtaking vineyard landscapes, world-class wineries, and the iconic Koshu grape, which has defined Japanese winemaking for centuries. Nestled at the base of Mount Fuji, this region is a perfect blend of natural beauty, history, and exceptional wineïżœïżœïżœmaking it an unforgettable escape for wine enthusiasts.
Why Yamanashi is Japanâs Wine Capital
Yamanashi Prefecture accounts for over 40% of Japanâs wine production and is home to the oldest wineries in the country. The regionâs fertile volcanic soil, abundant sunshine, and cool mountain breezes create the perfect climate for cultivating grapes, particularly the famous Koshu varietal.
The area has been producing wine for over 1,300 years, combining traditional techniques with modern innovations. Yamanashi has earned its reputation as the âNapa Valley of Japan,â offering wine tours that rival those in Europe or the Americas but with a uniquely Japanese flair.
Highlights of Yamanashi Wine Tours
1. Experience the Koshu Grape
At the heart of Yamanashiâs wine culture is the Koshu grape, a varietal unique to Japan. Recognizable by its pale pink skin, the Koshu grape produces elegant white wines with subtle citrus notes, refreshing acidity, and a clean mineral finish.
Visitors can also sample sparkling Koshu wines, aged varieties, and blends that showcase the grapeâs versatility. Pairing Koshu wine with Japanese cuisine, such as sashimi or tempura, offers a true taste of the regionâs craftsmanship.
2. Explore the Regionâs Historic Wineries
Yamanashi is home to over 80 wineries, ranging from large-scale producers to small, family-owned vineyards. Each offers a unique experience, giving you an intimate look into Japanâs winemaking heritage.
ChĂąteau Mercian: One of Japanâs oldest and most prestigious wineries, ChĂąteau Mercian is a pioneer in Japanese wine production. Their guided tours allow visitors to explore vineyards, barrel rooms, and tasting lounges offering exceptional Koshu wines.
Grace Wine: Renowned globally, Grace Wine produces award-winning Koshu wines with a focus on quality and innovation. Their vineyard views, paired with tastings, make for a perfect experience.
Katsunuma Winery: A boutique vineyard specializing in handcrafted wines, Katsunuma Winery captures the essence of Yamanashiâs terroir.
Most wineries in Yamanashi offer guided tours, vineyard walks, and wine tastings that allow visitors to appreciate both the process and the product.
3. Stunning Scenery with Mount Fuji Backdrops
A visit to Yamanashi is more than just about wine; itâs also about the stunning landscapes that surround you. The regionâs vineyards are spread across rolling hills, offering sweeping views of Mount Fuji and the Southern Alps.
Imagine sipping Koshu wine on a terrace overlooking lush vineyards, with the iconic snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji in the distance. This picturesque setting adds a magical touch to the wine-tasting experience and provides countless photo opportunities.
4. Taste Wines Beyond Koshu
While Koshu white wines are the regionâs signature, Yamanashi wineries also produce other exceptional varieties. Wines made from Muscat Bailey A, Japanâs signature red grape, offer light, fruity reds that pair beautifully with grilled dishes or Japanese-style barbecue.
You can also explore experimental blends, sparkling wines, and aged wines, showcasing the innovation and artistry of Yamanashiâs winemakers.
Best Time to Visit Yamanashi for Wine Tours
The ideal time for a wine tour in Yamanashi is during the autumn harvest season (September to November). During this period, vineyards are alive with activity, and the fall foliage transforms the landscape into a colorful masterpiece.
Spring is also a wonderful time to visit, as the vineyards come to life with vibrant greenery, and cherry blossoms create a magical atmosphere across the region.
Pairing Yamanashi Wines with Japanese Cuisine
No wine tour is complete without indulging in the local cuisine. Yamanashi wines are crafted to complement Japanese food, creating unforgettable pairings:
Koshu White Wine + Fresh Sashimi: The wineâs clean acidity enhances the delicate flavors of raw fish.
Sparkling Koshu Wine + Tempura: The crisp bubbles and acidity cut through the richness of fried dishes.
Muscat Bailey A + Grilled Wagyu Beef: The fruity notes of this red wine beautifully balance the umami of Japanese beef.
Wineries and nearby restaurants often offer curated wine-pairing menus, allowing visitors to savor the harmony of Japanese flavors and Yamanashi wines.
Why Choose Yamanashi Wine Tours?
Yamanashi wine tours in Japan offer a truly unique experience that blends:
World-class wines: Sip refined Koshu and Muscat Bailey A wines crafted with care.

In from the cold: Scandi wines hope to win over drinkers
Sipping a glass of local wine is likely not what springs to mind when visiting Scandinavia, but this colder, northerly region is emerging as a new wine frontier.
Hundreds of commercial vineyards are now dotted across Denmark, Sweden, and even Norway, as a first generation of professional winemakers transform what was once a niche hobby into a small but flourishing industry.
Far north of France's Bordeaux or California's Napa Valley, more than 10,000 vines grow on a hillside on Zealand, Denmark's biggest island.
"People have found out that it is actually possible to grow wine in Denmark, so newcomers are coming, year after year," says Nina Fink, as she shows the BBC her three-hectare (seven-acre) winery, VejrhÞj VingÄrd.
Nina and her husband Niels started their operation 13 years ago, after retiring from business jobs in Copenhagen. They grow predominantly green grapes, producing floral white wines, as well as sparkling and rosé.
"We have longer summer days with more sunlight than you have in France or in Italy, so the conditions are different," she explains

The Transportation System in Napa, California
Getting around Napa, California, is pretty easy, but itâs not as fast-paced as bigger cities. If youâre driving, youâll find that the roads are generally calm, and the traffic isnât too bad, except during peak tourist seasons. The main highways connect Napa to nearby towns, so itâs simple to get in and out. Public transportation is available too, though itâs more limited compared to larger cities. Napaâs bus system can get you to most places in town, but you might want a car if youâre planning to explore the surrounding areas. Taxis and rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are also options if you need a lift. Whether youâre commuting locally or just exploring, Napa keeps things low-key and accessible.
O'Brien Estate Winery in Napa, CA

Whether you're a wine connoisseur or just want to relax with a glass, O'Brien Estate Winery is a great place to slow down and savor the moment.
Major California Wine Company Sold for Nearly $2 Billion
Itâs interesting to see Duckhorn, such a well-known Napa Valley brand, changing hands again. A nearly $2 billion price tag is a pretty big deal, especially when you consider how much it has grown over the years. What stands out here is that a private equity firm, Butterfly Equity, which is more known for food chains like Qdoba, is taking over a wine company. Itâs a bit surprising, but at the same time, it shows how much the wine industry is evolving. The fact that Duckhorn was able to go public and still remain strong enough for such a hefty buyout speaks to its value. Itâll be interesting to see how this shift affects the brand and its future direction. The next few months will definitely tell a lot.

Yountville is imminently walkable. Stretch your legs and stroll through town. Take in the public art walk sculptures and stop for a glass of wine, cocktail, or zero proof options at one of Yountvilleâs favorite spots. Suggestions: R&D Kitchen, Ciccio, The Restaurant at North Block, RH Yountville, or Bottega.
A Classic Yountville Dinner
Start your visit off by dining at one of Yountvilleâs restaurants with maximum staying power for your first night. Mustards Grill has delighted locals and visitors alike for more than four decades with elevated American faire. And for a NightcapâŠ
As a small agricultural community, Napa Valley restaurants tend to close around 9 p.m., but Yountvilleâs RO Restaurant & Lounge is open late with music, caviar and cocktails, and small bites to wind down this epic day.Â
Day 3: Add a Wellness Day
After a few days of indulgence, add a day of wellness with a dash of great food to your itinerary.
Move in the Morning, Get Outside
Play a round of golf right in the town of Yountville or take a run or bike ride on the Napa Valley Vine Trail.Â
Recharge with a Nourishing Brunch or Lunch
Napa Valley restaurants are known for their use of fresh, local, and organic ingredients, and Yountvilleâs favorites are no exception. Try: Lucy at Bardessono Hotel & Spa, which has its own onsite gardens, or on the weekends, dip into La Calenda for their brunch offered all day.Â
Relax and PamperÂ
Alongside a food fueled visit to Napa Valley, reconnect with yourself with a spa afternoon. Soak in a pool, indulge in a massage treatment or facial treatment. Tip: Book your spa experiences when you book your hotel rooms.Â
Walk to a Shared Dinner
Nothing recharges the mind, body, and soul quite like sharing a meal together. Try Ad Hoc, that serves the nightly selections family-style (another Thomas Keller favorite), or Bottega, where nourishing plates of pasta and grilled meats are easily shared.Â
Day 4: Depart, but Before You DoâŠ.
