Brock Lesnar (c) vs Drew McIntyre: WWE Championship Match

I really really feel for Drew here, probably the most out of anyone on the show with the lack of an audience as well as the lack of crowds being able to watch in Scotland in bars at the Hooked On Wrestling events, as they would have been SUPERB for both atmosphere and something they would show constantly on tv after the win.

But no, sadly instead of holding this off till later in the year we still have to proceed and deal with it, gutted.

I feel this match could go 25 minutes long and be one of Brock’s longest matches for awhile, in them asking Brock to make Drew look THE STAR in beating him and beating him well. Plus, they cant have both this AND the Goldberg match go less than 5 minutes.....can they?

Wish they would have gone OTT with this and had it filmed at Lesnar’s ranch and be falls count anywhere, Drew turns up saying nothing will stop him from winning the title so he’s there to claim his prize on Brock’s turf. Then gone made fighting around the farm, oh well there’s other matches on this show that will seemingly be booked to shit.

Drew wins, they need to make sure he then moves into feuds with big names and wins clean each time to really invest it all into Drew and see what happens - MCINTYRE

Goldberg (c) vs Braun Strowman: WWE Universal Championship Match

What is there to be said here, Roman had to drop out because they stupidly had him around sick people with his health past, they decide to replace him with Braun who last month lost his title to Sami Zayn, not to mention they didnt even announce it till Smackdown last night without even mentioning Reigns by name after having HHH announce earlier in the week it would be done in an interesting way.............

This should go short with ideally Braun going over, have Bill take the lead hitting all his offense, big spear then as he goes to lift him for the Jackhammer he cant lift him and Strowman bursts out of it hits his finish and pins him clean while in monster mode.

Braun starts the big push from nowhere while at the same time this leaves it open for Goldberg to potentially come back for a rematch, as he didnt have anytime to prepare for Strowman and his game-plan for the bout. Not that I want Bill always around the title scene when he turns up but if they can get Braun going over him clean twice it really helps out a current full time guy under contract WHAT A CLEVER IDEA THAT WOULD BE!!! lol - STROWMAN

The Undertaker vs AJ Styles

I really have no desire to see Taker in a big singles match at Wrestlemania or any other big show ever again, let alone it being in a match with AJ who could have an awesome match with most others on the card. This match should really have turned into the OC vs Taker/Aleister Black if they HAD to go with these guys together, the rub that would have given Black would have been MASSIVE!! Imagine the innovative entrance they could have come up with for both guys together, truly letting Taker pass his aura across to someone new....just goosebumps thinking of how they would look....but nope.

Instead we end up with a feud built around shoot promos about Takers wife doing AJ’s Styles Clash finisher.....

The worst part is that I see Taker going over, not sure if it was confirmed but it was mentioned he’d have 2 others with him who most likely will turn the tide of the match, dont get your hopes up for Black here instead, im guessing its Kane and Big Show....seriously....please be wrong - UNDERTAKER

John Cena vs The Fiend Bray Wyatt

I really wish if they are going to bring back guys who haven't been on the road full time then PLEASE bring them back with a solid storyline that makes sense and that’s been built up for awhile to make sense.....not this. Truthfully they need to build these matches with the sole purpose of having the other guys who could/should have been the spot to be able to turn around and say, ‘you know what, this makes alot of sense and will be great so I cant hold it against them and moan’. Honestly that’s all it needs.

And secondly they really are lucky there wont be a live audience there for the match, the cheers the Fiend would have received over Cena would have drove them wild in editing after trying to build Bray as the crazy heel.

After dropping the title Bray NEEDS the big win here to keep his aura something they can use well, the more they have him lose the quicker that appeal will drop, and for me with Wyatt that doesn't mean he can take loses as long as he isnt pinned like others can ANY loss hurts someone who can teleport (?!?!) - WYATT

Edge vs Randy Orton: Last Man Standing

Edge is the guy in second place behind Drew for me feeling gutted there wont be an audience around for this, imagine coming back after years away and the thought you could never wrestle again through fear of dying then finding you CAN wrestle again.........only to be risking it all in an empty building.....FUCKS SAKE!

This should be great and given the time to have the emotional side of it pour out strong, we should be getting Edge taking a beating to the point that Beth will come out to support him then have her feelings develop to the point she will want him to stay down and stop the pain. Yeah this will be great - EDGE

Becky Lynch (c) vs Shayna Baszler: Raw Women’s Championship Match

I dont think the result should be in question here, Shayna HAS to win and go on a dominant run with the belt, ideally booking Becky to come back in contention for SummerSlam to rematch.......sadly everything's in the air with the world.

For me, and remember those words, Becky’s reign has been abit of a meh fest in-ring, apart from the Sasha bouts, and the extra focus on her has highlighted her ring work which really isnt the strongest part of her game (Not saying she’s terrible at all, but could she please drop the awkward leg drop from the ropes lol). At the same time alot of that is down to how she’s booked as management seem to go on a few months run of wanting the women to be the main focus, then quickly changing their mind and dropping it back massively. Also, the lack of depth with the women’s division's is a problem with them being split over the shows, same with the men to a degree and is the reason we see feuds get dragged and dragged for months, with less women it means we hardly get anything that feels fresh which needs to be key - BASZLER

Lacey Evans vs Sasha Banks vs Bayley (c) vs Tamina vs Naomi - Smackdown Women’s Championship Fatal 5 Way Match

What a mess this is, I have no desire to see Banks/Bayley again for at least another 5 years...........but id much prefer that to having Tamina suddenly dragged on tv and put into the title picture. I get that the roster like her and she’s probably a really nice person to be around and supports the other women massively when needed, but for a viewer she brings NOTHING and hasn't for YEARS, all she’s doing is taking up a roster spot that someone way more deserving could be in from NXT for example. And yes, ive seen the random accounts on Twitter hoping she wins the title............jeez

Wouldn't have a problem with any of the other women taking the win here, sucks that Dana had to pull out as she has really shown improvements the past few months and deserved her place here easily - BANKS 

Rhea Ripley (c) vs Charlotte: NXT Women’s Championship Match

So we definitely are back to saying ‘women’s’ champion again are we? They dropped it the other month but seem to have quickly gone back to it.

Big match for NXT here getting a Mania slot, I really hope that Charlotte doesn't get the win and belt but her winning opens up more fresh options for the future on the women’s division on the show. As long as Charlotte doesn't keep doing her thing of wearing massive heels in-ring to show how much bigger she is to everyone else, for some random reason it annoys me and doesn't need to even be done.

I feel if Charlotte does win the title they will very quickly move another NXT star over to Raw/Smackdown to replace her or hype a new debut upto the draft which MAY be soon - CHARLOTTE

Kevin Owens vs Seth Rollins

The problem with having so many matches at Wrestlemania is that one like this goes so far under the radar its criminal, both guys are great and can pull out something special for the big show....not sure they get the time they will want even with a two night show. This feud will most likely continue so dont worry about who goes over - ROLLINS

Sami Zayn (c) vs Daniel Bryan: Intercontinental Championship Match

Exactly the same as the match before and even more so, a quality match that probably wont get the most time but will be a really fun ride to be on - ZAYN

Jimmy Uso vs John Morrison vs Kofi Kingston: Smackdown Tag Team Title Ladder Match

Yeah dont ask, they had to remove the Miz as he had Coronavirus symptoms but still wanted to do the ladder stipulation...

Honestly the tag division has to be up there for the most stale division in the company, similar to what I said about the women having the Uso’s and The New Day in a match in any combination is just soooooo over done.

Last month I predicted Morrison and Miz to retain and drop the titles tonight but now I hope they keep them, then drop them to Heavy Machinery as soon as they can - MORRISON

Go Home Smackdown Live for WrestleMania 35 Review 4/2/19

Last stop on the Road to Wrestlemania for the Blue Brand. SD Live has been the better show for almost the entirety of 2019, let’s find out if that trend continues on the go home show with a little of The Good, The Bad, and the WTF: Potato Face Edition.

The Good: Daniel Bryan continues his absolutely perfect heel work at the contract signing. Kofi’s stoicism and then flipped switch to emotion was also kind of fun but DB is the real star here playing with the crowd and flat out ignoring them when necessary. This was a significantly better send off to Mania for a big title match than Lesnar and Rollins gave us. If I have a complaint, it’s how irritatingly goofy Big E insists on constantly being. He basically gyrated his junk and made cocaine faces for the entirety of this segment and while I get that his deal is he’s a fun goof, it distracted from a solid segment that didn’t really need him or Woods.

The KO Show. Sure there’s about 100 ways they could be making better use of such a talented guy but these segments tend to be a million times better than Moment of Bliss so for this I am thankful. AJ and Orton continued the trade digs here in what has been a pretty good WWE Vet vs Indie Darling angle. I do question what the hell they can do at WM now that they’ve blown the whole Forearm into RKO bit but I’m pretty sure this match will still be good.

Samoa Joe gets back on track with a win over Ali. Much as I like Ali, this was absolutely necessary. Joe has been losing too much lately and he needed to look dominant here and did.

Otis. Basically everything he does on tv will go in this column for the foreseeable future.

Sanity makes a TV appearance, albeit to job in a handicap match to the Miz. Shane continues to be ok, not great, as a heel McMahon. This match build has been awkward but certainly not terrible. Looking forward to Shane’s insanity Sunday.

The Bad: Lazy booking in the form of an 18 person inter gender tag match that eventually devolved into a battle royal preview. This wasn’t without highlights such as Otis courting Mandy, Rose and Benjamin’s hi-five, Nikki Cross being a nut, and Asuka standing tall after Jeff Hardy foolishly turned his back on her, but ultimately this was a forced way to highlight the WM battle royals that no one cares about and felt unnecessary in a show that should be focusing on promoting consistent interest in a show that will be as long as a work day.

Becky Lynch’s rare weak promo. Basically a recap of what happened on Monday night, which was slightly lackluster to me anyway. I didn’t need anything quite so dramatic and overdone as Raw’s segment, but something more effective than Lynch standing on a desk regurgitating the same old schlock she’s been feeding us for two months felt lazy and weak.

The IIconics cut a promo ahead of the fatal four way title match at ‘Mania. Pretty boilerplate stuff from Peyton and Billie. Not that it’s horrible, it’s what they do, it just didn’t do much to convince me that they can win. So mildly pointless?

The WTF: The Twist of Fate. Riddle me this. Why do different performers sell it different and why is only when Jeff does the move? EC3 sells it last night as a half assed stunner, as many do. This move used to be a variation on the diamond cutter and it looked awesome. Some people still sell it this way, particularly when Matt does it, but when Jeff does the exact same move, about 2/3 of the time, the opponent sells it as a weird shitty version of the stunner. I want an explanation. Can I get some continuity anywhere with this product anymore?

The Smackdown Tag Title Picture and Alexa Bliss booking matches. The USOs are great. Them having the titles, while not 100% ideal due to the number of times they’ve had them already, is fine. What isn’t fine is no feud built to the biggest show of the year for these guys. They never seem to get a fair shake this time of year and WM 35 is no exception. Another freakin Fatal Four Way is inexplicably booked after we just watched the exact same match by the host of Wrestlemania, Alexa Bliss. She refers to the no no Jimmy and Jey had last week when the forfeited their gauntlet match in the name of KofiMania. This would have been far better served if it had come straight from Vince. He’s become a bit of a half assed authority and Bliss is the host of a show, not the GM. Why is she passing this message or making the match? It just feels dumb.

Finally, on to Aleister Black and Ricochet. How many title opportunities are these guys going to get in 30 days? Let’s count em up. Two against the Revival, both lost. This will be number 2 for the SD titles, one already lost. And they get a shot against the War Raiders on Friday night. That’s a fiver. It’s not that I don’t like these two guys. It just doesn’t make a ton of sense why they’re a team in the first place and despite losing every major title chance they get, they continue to get chances. I can’t imagine they beat the War Raiders at TakeOver. Maybe they win at Mania, which honestly I prefer over them winning the Raw titles from The Revival at any point. But what if they don’t? Then what? Some direction would be nice.

Certainly not awful but definitely lacked a real holy shit moment that made WM must see. The contract signing was good but not so good that I’m desperate to see Bryan and Kofi. There’s whispers that Mysterio might be hurt and out for the US title match so the Joe squashing Ali makes sense. God help us if Cena replaces Rey. How about Andrade? Or Ali in a rematch? Or even the triumphant return of the United States of Truth! Or.....OTIS! Similarly to Raw, there was stuff to like, other to not. Unbalanced, not amazing go home show gets 3.5 big Hogan Belt Whips because it did do a couple of things very well and there was little face palming. Stay tuned for One Chance in Hell this week, my fantasy booking for the Showcase of the Immortals. Top Guy.....out.

2021 WWE Hell in a Cell predictions, card, matches, start time, date, PPV preview, location

Takeover: New Orleans preview

Andrade Almas vs. Aleister Black - Almas is defending the NXT championship.  There’s not too much of a storyline here: Almas has been on a roll for the past six months, but Black has been destroying people for over a year so he’s like “Eh, think I’ll go beat the champ now.”

Almas’s run at the top has been pretty cool mostly because I still can’t believe he actually turned his career around and got to the NXT main event level, so I keep expecting him to lose and then he just...wins.  I thought “there’s no way this chump’s gonna beat Drew McIntyre,” and then he did.  I thought “there’s no way this guy’s gonna get in the way of Johnny Gargano’s moment,” and then he did.  Now I’m like “C’mon, Black is going to murder this dude, there’s no way Almas can win,” but I’ve got that doubt, y’know?  I’ve still got to predict Black to win the title, but I’m not as confident as I expected to be...

Ember Moon vs. Shayna Baszler - This is a rematch from Takeover: Philadelphia, where Moon just barely squeaked out a win to retain the NXT women’s title after Baszler annihilated her for ten minutes.  Obviously Ember has to prove that wasn’t a fluke, because Baszler’s not going to let that first match stop her.

I think Baszler is going to win the title sooner or later and Goldberg the competition for six months to a year.  The other women in NXT can do okay in those conditions, but Ember has already been through this with Asuka and doesn’t need to stick around for it again.  So I’m thinking now is the time to call up Moon, which means it’s also the right time for Shayna to pick up the belt.

Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa - Back in February Ciampa interfered to cost Gargano a match where his NXT career was on the line.  Gargano has made Ciampa’s life hell ever since, so Ciampa asked general manager William Regal to deal with it.  This match is Regal’s solution.  If Gargano wins, he gets his job back.  If not, Gargano stays fired...which seems to just maintain the status quo, so I’m not sure what Ciampa can hope to gain here.

This is being billed as an “unsanctioned match,” which sort of doesn’t make sense because the NXT general manager ordered it and attached stipulations, which sure as hell sounds “sanctioned” to me.  The implication is that WWE/NXT absolves themselves of any legal responsibility for what happens, although they’re still going to play both guys’ entrance music and send a referee out to decide who wins.  The main idea is that you’re not going to see any count-outs or disqualifications.

Gargano and Ciampa were a beloved tag team in NXT, which persevered through tension like their emotional battle in the Cruiserweight Classic and several bitter losses in tag title matches.  By the time Ciampa snapped and attacked Gargano, however, Ciampa needed knee surgery.  So Gargano carried on as a singles act, trying to move on but clearly haunted by the betrayal.  Gargano was chasing the NXT title and nearly at the top of the roster when Ciampa returned to renew the feud.  Now, finally, we get to see them beat the fuck out of each other.  I can’t wait.

Strictly speaking, Gargano doesn’t have to win.  He could stay banished from NXT, but get called up to Raw or Smackdown, and Ciampa could eventually follow him to continue the feud.  But I’m pretty sure NXT is getting at least one more match out of this program, and to do that Johnny has to get his job back.

EC3 vs. Adam Cole vs. Ricochet vs. Velveteen Dream vs. Killian Dain vs. Lars Sullivan - This is a ladder match for the newly-created NXT North American championship.  The title belt will be hung above the ring, and ladders will be provided for the wrestlers to legally use in the match; whoever climbs up and retrieves the belt will be the winner and first champion.

This would be a pretty impressive array of talent even before the addition of new arrivals Ricochet (from New Japan, PWG, and Lucha Underground) and EC3 (from TNA/Impact).  Presumably whoever wins is going to have his hands full defending the title against the other five through the rest of the year.

This is the only multi-man ladder match WWE has booked for the weekend, and it’s a good bet that NXT is going to try to outperform your typical Money in the Bank style clusterfuck.  Everyone in this thing has something to prove.  It’s real tough to pick a winner, but I’m leaning towards EC3, Cole, or Ricochet...maybe with a slight edge to EC3.

Kyle O’Reilly & Adam Cole vs. Akam & Rezar vs. Pete Dunne & Roderick Strong - This was originally supposed to be the NXT tag team champions, O’Reilly and Bobby Fish, defending the title against the winners of the 2018 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, but Fish suffered a knee injury and O’Reilly and Cole interfered in the tournament finals.  So now Cole has to sub for Fish in a match against both of the finalist teams in a three-way, with the tag title and the tournament trophy on the line. 

This match will have “triple threat” tag team rules.  Ostensibly that means each team will be in a corner, with only two people legally in the ring at any time; anyone can tag anyone else to enter the match as long as the two legal men are not from the same team.  However since a triple threat match can’t end by disqualification or count-out, there’s not much of a way to enforce these rules, so these kinds of matches tend to break down into wild brawls.  Regardless, the first man to score a fall on any opponent will win the match for his team.

NXT’s tag team trainwrecks have been a consistent highlight of the Takeover shows.  The format has particularly been good for Akam and Rezar, who get to be big huge dudes catching and squashing all the little dudes in crazy power spots.  I’m always thinking each Takeover will be the swan song for the Authors of Pain, because I don’t know what else they can learn in developmental and there’s so much they could do crushing guys on Raw or Smackdown.  Hopefully if they don’t get called up, they can just frigging win the titles, because doing neither is starting to get frustrating.

Adam Cole is in a tough spot here, working two different trainwreck matches on the same night, when expectations are as high as they can be.  Usually when a guy wrestles in two title matches on the same show, you can count on him to win one and lose one.  Then again, Fish’s absence means the Undisputed Era stable has to regroup anyway, so maybe Cole will go 0-2 to set up a storyline where they need to plan their next move.

Dunne and Strong had very little to do with one another until a few weeks ago, when Strong unsuccessfully challenged Dunne for the WWE UK championship.  Originally they weren’t even scheduled to be in the Dusty Classic, but Tyler Bate and Trent Seven pulled out unexpectedly.  Strong is a white-meat babyface and Dunne is a particularly dickish heel, so I can’t be the only one wondering if Dunne is going to walk out on him here to set up a singles feud.  If nothing else, NXT would be idiots not to tease such a spot.

There are too many moving parts in this match to pick a winner, so I’ll just go with the Authors of Pain, because I think they’re funky fresh.

This coming Sunday we will witness one of the more loaded WrestleMania cards in history. With 13 matches on the card and a possibility of Undertaker vs. John Cena taking place, lets see what we have in store.

WRESTLEMANIA WOMEN’S BATTLE ROYAL (KICKOFF SHOW)

Those confirmed so far are: Sasha Banks, Natalya, Lana, Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, Liv Morgan, Becky Lynch, Naomi, Bayley, Mickie James, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, and Carmella. Expect other competitors from NXT and maybe a name or two from the past to participate in this inaugural event. Besides a possible surprise entrant winning (Ember Moon?), the only others I can see winning this are Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Becky Lynch. Carmella has the briefcase (which could come into play later on in the show) and does not need this win. If Sasha and Bayley continue to feud then the finish could play into that. They could also give Becky the win and try to use that for a feud since she has been wasting away on Smackdown. I’d give Sasha the win here and use this to taunt Bayley for their feud. WINNER: SASHA BANKS

ANDRE THE GIANT MEMORIAL BATTLE ROYAL (KICKOFF SHOW)

Confirmed for this match are: Dolph Ziggler, Baron Corbin, Mojo Rawley, Tyler Breeze, Fandango, Tye Dillinger, Dash Wilder, Scott Dawson, Matt Hardy, Goldust, Heath Slater, Rhyno, Zack Ryder, and Primo Colon. Former winners Baron Corbin and Mojo Rawley return but I do not see them as potential victors in this match as it does not make much sense. I also do not expect any of the other names listed to win this match. I think a returning wrestler is going to win this and I’ll go with Big Cass, who will need something returning from injury. Even Big Show is a possibility of being a two-time winner but I think Cass will get the nod in this match. WINNER: BIG CASS

WWE CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT FINALS MATCH: CEDRIC ALEXANDER VS. MUSTAFA ALI (KICKOFF SHOW)

Since WrestleMania 33 the Cruiserweight Division has had a rough time. Neville is sitting home and Enzo Amore,Rich Swann, and Austin Aries were all fired from the company. With the division on life support a switch was made an a 16-man tournament was held to crown a new champion and it has breathed life into 205 Live. During the year, Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali (you can add Drew Gulak to the mix as well) have been the most consistent competitors and deserving of a WrestleMania match. When the tournament was put together you got the sense that Cedric would be winning. However, Ali has been cutting some great promos (Like this one from WWE’s YouTube channel) and the story of him using the fact he was only an alternate for the Cruiserweight Classic as fuel to get him the title. There are cases for both guys getting the win and Ali’s underdog story would make for a nice moment but I’ll still go with Cedric here in what should be an excellent match. I think Cedric wins because if he losses then where do you go with him? Ali can get another title opportunity whereas Cedric would end up lost in the shuffle and labeled a choker. WINNER: CEDRIC ALEXANDER

RAW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: ALEXA BLISS (C) VS. NIA JAX

This has been one of the better feuds on WWE TV of late. The fans have gotten behind Jax, the victim of verbal abuse and manipulation by her former friend. Bliss is a great character but dominates her feuds to the point where it has become a detriment to her opponent. It has also made her title reign feel stale and predictable.  In this match, I expect Bliss to finally get some comeuppance and lose the belt. Maybe Bliss can go over to Smackdown and start some new feuds because she has already feuded with everyone on RAW. WINNER: ALEXA BLISS

RAW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: CESARO & SHEAMUS VS. BRAUN STROWMAN AND A PARTNER OF HIS CHOOSING

The Bar has gone through the other teams on RAW so they had to create new challengers. The intrigue is seeing who will be Braun’s partner and you can speculate as to who he will end up choosing (could be someone returning from injury like Samoa Joe or Big Show or another person on the main roster like Elias) but no matter what I think we see a title change here. If the Bar stays as a team, switching brands is for the best, but a split might be a good idea too. I do not think this will be a long match but Braun being a tag champ gives him something to do for the short term. WINNER: BRAUN STROWMAN & MYSTERY PARTNER

WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP FATAL FOUR WAY MATCH: RANDY ORTON (C) VS. RUSEV VS. BOBBY ROODE VS. JINDER MAHAL

This is a match with little fanfare. The addition of Rusev was late (PWInsider reports he was added to this match because the company wanted to appease to him after he requested his release) to make this a fatal four-way. He might get the title as a result but watching Orton hit the RKO and getting a win seems fitting for WrestleMania. I really do not see Roode or Mahal having a chance to win but I’ll go with Orton as the winner here but do not be surprised to see a Rusev Day celebration. Rusev can pin Roode or Mahal so Orton can drop the title without getting pinned. WINNER: RANDY ORTON

WWE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH: THE MIZ (C) VS. FINN BALOR VS. SETH ROLLINS

Balor and Rollins had an excellent match this past Monday on RAW with Rollins getting the win. That would lead you to believe that Rollins is the favorite to win this match. Rollins has really stepped up his game over the past couple of months too. This is Balor’s first WrestleMania though and since he just lost on TV I think they return the favor and give him the title. I cannot see Miz retaining and heading over to Smackdown for a feud against Daniel Bryan seems like a natural thing to do. Miz could even retain and take the IC Title with him to Smackdown but I do not think that is the route the company takes. WINNER: FINN BALOR

SMACKDOWN TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: THE USOS (C) VS. NEW DAY VS. BLUDGEON BROTHERS

The Usos/New Day feud has been the highlight of Smackdown. They have several fantastic matches together but its time for both teams to move on from each other. The Usos have established themselves as a top team but could use a change of scenery. The New Day are still popular but there will come a time where they are going to split up the group or at least break off one member as a singles star. The Bludgeon Brothers involved themselves into this feud after a run-in attack at Fastlane. I do not see any case where the New Day wins this match. The Usos would benefit from a brand switch as the RAW tag ranks needs to be freshened up. I think a scenario where the Usos pin the New Day then lose to Bludgeon Brothers two days later on Smackdown could work well in numerous ways. It can close the book on the New Day/Usos feud and you can also have Usos go over to RAW. WINNER: THE USOS

SMACKDOWN WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: CHARLOTTE FLAIR (C) VS. ASUKA

Asuka earned her shot by winning the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble match. The story here is really Asuka putting her undefeated streak on the line against what she feels is the top Women’s Champion to prove who is the best. I think we get a highly competitive match and in the end Asuka comes out on top. A scenario where Carmella finally cashes in her Money in the Bank Briefcase only to lose would be highly possible as Asuka can maintain her streak without Charlotte getting pinned. I don’t think Carmella becoming champion is the route they take. WINNER: ASUKA

DANIEL BRYAN & SHANE MCMAHON VS. KEVIN OWENS & SAMI ZAYN

Zayn & Owens need to win in order to keep their jobs on Smackdown. Daniel Bryan’s return to the WWE ring should make for a great moment. The story between all four involved has had its ups and downs but has greatly improved since Fastlane. You get a feeling that Shane can turn on Bryan, and that might happen, but with Bryan returning to the ring I don’t think they want him to lose right off the bat and especially to Owens & Zayn. You can just have Owens & Zayn lose then head over to RAW. Owens & Zayn vs. Braun & Mystery Partner could be your new RAW Tag Team Title feud. I see Bryan winning this match then leading the crowd into an unbelievably loud “yes” chant. WINNER: DANIEL BRYAN & SHANE MCMAHON

KURT ANGLE & RONDA ROUSEY VS. TRIPLE H & STEPHANIE MCMAHON

The beef between Rousey and Stephanie started three years ago at WrestleMania 31 when Rousey threatened to break Stephanie’s arm. And Triple H attacked Kurt Angle at this past Survivor Series to add fuel to the fire. There is a lot of pressure on Rousey in her first match as in WWE. especially since her work on the mic has not wowed anyone.Its clear the company has plans for her and a bad performance will garner a lot of negative attention. Triple H & Stephanie have been tremendous heels on TV to set up this match and have really helped ease Rousey’s transition on screen. I cannot envision a scenario in which Rousey loses so her pinning Stephanie seems like a really safe bet to make in one of the more intriguing matches on the show. WINNER: KURT ANGLE & RONDA ROUSEY

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: AJ STYLES (C) VS. SHINSUKE NAKAMURA

These two faced off against each other at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 10 event back in 2016 with Nakamura coming out on top in a great match. This time the WWE Championship is at stake with Nakamura choosing to go after this belt after winning the Royal Rumble. I expect a competitive match here and at the end I’m going with Nakamura as the winner. With a roster shakeup expected shortly after WrestleMania I believe that AJ will head over to RAW while Nakamura can feud with a new challenger. This has strong potential to end up as the match of the night. WINNER: SHINSUKE NAKAMURA

UNIVERSAL TITLE MATCH: BROCK LESNAR (C) W/ PAUL HEYMAN VS. ROMAN REIGNS

A rematch three years in the making. With Dana White coming out saying Brock Lesnar is returning to UFC and the fact the company has handpicked Reigns as their future face of the company the outcome seems easy to predict. With that being said, these two had an incredible match at WrestleMania 31 and there is no reason it cannot happen again here even if Lesnar is on the way out. I expect both guys to give it their all and at the end Reigns comes out victorious, likely closing out his 4th straight WrestleMania. WINNER: ROMAN REIGNS

WWE NXT Takeover: Portland 2020 – Preview & Predictions

Adam Cole (c) vs Tommaso Ciampa: NXT Championship Match

Finally, Ciampa gets the chance to take back Goldie after never being pinned for it due to injury previously, just that standing in his way is Adam Cole who has been on such a great run as a champion since winning the title.

I swear every time Ciampa is in-ring doing something he always seems to get a knock, he was limping the other week I just hope nothings lingering for him and has to keep working through knocks again which could build up.

Cole has been great both in matches as well as bringing the aura of a proper champion to his reign, not a knock on others but him interacting with the Raw and Smackdown rosters around Survivor Series made him seem an equal and not someone on the newer third brand.

Not sure about the outcome here to be honest, my biggest instinct is that Cole wins and goes to feud with Gargano if he beats Balor. The story of Ciampa’s return from injury is a big one that they may go with for the raw emotion of him getting the gold back, but I feel they stay with Cole as champion clinging to his reign as the other members of Undisputed Era drop their belts – COLE

 Rhea Ripley (c) vs Bianca Belair: NXT Championship Match

Bianca gets another chance at the title after winning a battle royal, to begin with this came across as a massive stop gap for whatever plans they had for Rhea and the title at Wrestlemania but thankfully they’ve developed the feud to incorporate Charlotte and add some layers to this whole situation.

The build to a potential Rhea/Charlotte match began WAAAAYYYYYY too early and really didn’t need to, especially as the Smackdown crew haven’t really started their Mania feuds properly building yet I get the need to with Charlotte having won the Rumble but still be creative to wait till next week maybe?

At first I was 100% sure that Ripley would retain and move on but now after they’ve been given mic time and focus im starting to possibly see a Belair title win and this all evolve to a Wrestlemania three way match with Charlotte (I don’t need her in another one, but as long as it helps the other girls than im all for it). If Rhea keeps the belt tonight then forget it as Bianca wont have the smoke needed to be injected into it, plus I think it’s the big surprise they may need for tonight's show with it featuring two women’s matches and both wanting to impress more than the other (more on that later).

Im going to go with Belair to get her first title win in the company, one of my favourite people to see on tv will be ecstatic to get the victory, THEN we can push on with Charlotte coming down to the ring to square off with the new champion while Rhea gets included as her rematch – BELAIR

 The Undisputed Era (c) vs Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne, The BROserweights: NXT Tag Team Championship Match

The winners of this years Dusty Classic take their trophy as well as their championship opportunity tonight and what a fun match this will be.

The current champions have held their titles since August and continue to have great matches with whoever they are in the ring with and this will surely be another classic, but the big question will be can the new team conquer the established duo? For me the comedy segments Dunne and Riddle have done since winning the classic have been great and a welcome change to some of NXT’s usual broadcast, a real fresh feel to them with Riddle’s laid back character and Dunne’s shrugs the perfect combination to get more out of Pete’s character while giving Matt the chance to shine. While the UE have remained a constant highlight with Kyle wayyyy up there for one of my favourites in the whole company (If only him and Strong were a foot or two taller they’d be main eventing PPVs sigh).

For me I think we are about to see a down swing in the UE’s momentum and that sadly entails them dropping the titles to give their group more room to develop which ultimately will be great for them. I don’t think Riddle and Dunne are a long term team but will have tons of fun in whatever length of time they are kept together. But remember, they WILL split when Riddle leaps into the ring one night and accidently kicks his sliders into the back of Dunne’s head on accident, only for Dunne to turn and destroy Riddle for doing so setting up some very tough brawls down the road – RIDDLE/DUNNE

Keith Lee (c) vs Dominik Dijakovic:  NXT North American Championship Match

The rivalry continues!!!

There really isn’t much to say here, we’ve seen them fight in epic battles before and this time on a Takeover they HAVE to raise the bar further, good luck boys – LEE

Tegan Nox vs Dakota Kai: Street Fight

A street fight between two former best friends is what brings us our second women’s match of the evening, and the stipulation is what was required after their brawl recently on NXT tv.

These two are going to go as far as they can with this stipulation and then go a step or two further, expect some worried looking referees around them as well as possible Regal appearing to calm them down after being around Dakota’s turn. Both of the women here know how important this match is not just for this feud but that its both of their times to shine in probably their biggest matches in the company so far, and hopefully they’ve been working each other for years as friends just ready for this occasion.

Predictions wise I can only see Dakota winning after Tegan got the win on tv with Candice’s help, ill predict that Candice appears again but this time Nox declines her help only for someone else to interfere and get Dakota the victory. The word going around is that Raquel Gonzalez is ready for tv and her push after a slight name change so her debuting as Kai’s muscle would be the perfect starting point for her run as well as continuing this feud further – KAI

 Johnny Gargano vs Finn Balor

This is really the most interesting match on the card for me in terms on who gets the win, both massive in terms of development for this brand over the years but as I mentioned earlier I give the slight advantage to Gargano with the idea of him moving to the title scene after.

Now, saying that I don’t think this feud is near from being over and is one that will be placed on the side and hopefully show Balors clever side over the next few weeks. If he loses allow him to maybe even help Gargano win the title eventually from Cole then instantly destroy Johnny again to move into the title picture his-self. Even in defeat Finn knows the game too well and uses others to gain the steps he needs to get back to where he knows. – GARGANO

 As is the norm with Takeovers this will be awesome with great matches and some intriguing angles I predict to keep the tv killing it too.

There may also be another match or two added to the show but possibly just on the kick off show.

Also, I’m VERY happy to see that Jorge Bolly got his NXT debut this weekend on the loop, I cant wait to see how much fun he has rising through the NXT ranks and beyond, trust me

11/1 Smackdown

So here’s the issue. Almost everybody...is stuck in Saudi Arabia. They’re going to have to pull out some major stunts to get Smackdown going with a depleted roster. But there’s a way to make this work with the upcoming Survivor Series and having NXT be a part of that. Why wouldn’t they strike the depleted forces of the Smackdown roster and make a name for themselves or show the reinvigorated nature of superstars like Breezango and Finn Balor? 

Other than that, this is a great way to showcase and highlight the Women’s Division. With 2 hours, pushing the women should really be a focus, especially heading into Survivor Series where they’ll probably be a focus like last year’s rise with Becky Ly and you could also put the Women’s Tag Team Championships that are defended on every show a match with a Carmella and Dana Brooke to continue their heel push and Mella/Dana wouldn’t hurt too much from it.

Anyways. Here’s how I would write the Smackdown for tonight with the circumstances of a majority of the roster stuck on a plane. The legends here are kind of interchangeable. You could throw in a Booker T., Hurricane, Jeff Jarrett, Goldberg or Undertaker. Any combo would be fun for a quick match/surprise. 

Open with video package highlighting Crown Jewel. Bayley/Sasha entrance. BAYLEY: “You’re all in luck because tonight is very special for all of you. This is Friday Night Bayley, a celebration of ME! There is no one who can stop us. You see, the true crown jewels of the WWE are Sasha Banks and myself, your WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion- Bayley. I am the draw, I am the network, I am the best thing going in WWE right now, and there is no woman who can-” BECKY LYNCH MUSIC INTERRUPTS. Becky entrance. BECKY: “I wanted to stop you right there, Bayley because you said there’s no woman could beat ya but...I have a feeling that The Man could. See, we got ourselves something called the Survivor Series coming up and I would love nothing more than to give these people a little preview of it with me slapping your head off TONIGHT!” BAYLEY: “Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is Smackdown, Becky. The Wild Card rule is dead so you need to take your ass right back to Monday nights.” BECKY: “You’re right, there ain’t no Wild Card rule. But there is the Man’s rules!” Becky runs down - physical with Becky/Bayley/Sasha.  CHARLOTTE FLAIR MUSIC INTERRUPTS. Charlotte runs down to even the odds.  Bayley/Sasha bail.  Becky/Charlotte stand tall.

Match 1. Miz vs Matt Hardy. Miz entrance. Matt Hardy entrance. Matt Hardy wins.

Sami Zayn entrance. SAMI: “The big news of tonight is of course...where is everybody? The Smackdown roster is stuck somewhere on a plane and it looks like you’re left with your old pal, the truth teller of the WWE, Sami Zayn. But I don’t want to gloat, no, no. That does nothing for anyone here. What I do want to do is continue...an offer. An offer to a very talented man by the name of Daniel Bryan. So Daniel, come on out. Let’s just...talk!” DANIEL BRYAN MUSIC. Daniel Bryan entrance. (Show highlights of Daniel/Sami/Nakamura segment from last week) SAMI: “Daniel, I gave you an offer last week and that still stands. I think you are a fantastic athlete. Think of what we could do together- do for the world! That’s what this is all about. Not you. Not me. It’s for these ingrates in the audience and watching at home! Our talents go beyond championship glory. And with an artist like Shinsuke Nakamura, we will have the planet in the-” DANIEL: “Let me stop you right there, Sami. I like what you’re saying but I think I’m pretty good at speaking for myself and even better at fighting for myself but what if instead...you and I have a match tonight and if you so happen to beat me, then maybe I’ll think more on it.” SAMI: “Daniel, as much as I’d love to wrestle you tonight, I really can’t. I have had this bad sneeze and would hate to get a calibur athlete such as yourself sick so instead I arranged for something WAY better. A LOCAL COMPETITOR! One of Buffalo’s finest! Right here! Come on out!” Enhancement Talent entrance. SAMI: “This guy is said to be the best athlete in Buffalo, which isn’t hard if you’ve seen how The Bills play. So Daniel, I will be right outside rooting you on.” Match 2. Daniel Bryan vs Enhancement Talent. Daniel Bryan wins easily. DANIEL: “I came here tonight to wrestle. And I know somebody in the back has got to want some competition too!” ALEISTER BLACK MUSIC. Aleister Black entrance. 

Match 3. Daniel Bryan vs Aleister Black. Aleister Black wins after Sami accidentally bumps Daniel.

Match 4. Carmella/Dana Brooke vs Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane). CARMELLA MUSIC/ENTRANCE. DANA BROOKE MUSIC/ENTRANCE. KABUKI WARRIORS MUSIC/ENTRANCE (Show highlights of Asuka misting Paige on Raw) Kabuki Warriors win.

DREW GULAK In-ring. GULAK: “Ladies and gentlemen, tonight is grand because I, Drew Gulak get to inform you that I WAS RIGHT! Braun Strowman lost to Tyson Fury yesterday at Crown Jewel and it’s proof that the Power Point never lies! Just so we can see it again-” INTERCUT OF Tyson Fury punching Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel, winning the match. GULAK: “My Power Point presentation clearly isn’t the only thing that packs a massive punch!” BIG SHOW MUSIC. Big Show entrance.

Match 5. Drew Gulak vs The Big Show Big Show wins.

Match 6. Bayley w/ Sasha Banks vs Becky Lynch w/Charlotte Flair Lengthy match interrupted by NXT Women’s division beating up all 4 and the other Smackdown women backstage.  Shayna Baszler chokes out Becky. Shayna + NXT Women’s heels stand tall. End of show.
