Following the events of Civil War, the Avengers are disbanded, scattered and in hiding - and not coping all that well. The rise of anti-superhuman feeling continues, and it's not only the Avengers who are feeling the effects. Steve Rogers and team are about to discover a whole other world, and with it comes what might be the biggest threat they've ever faced.

As Team Cap slowly arrive into the Prague headquarters, tensions rise between the two groups.

“Sam,” Steve appears, drawing the other man into a one-armed hug. “Glad you made it okay.”

“And miss all the underground masterpiece theatre vibes?” Sam replies with a raised eyebrow. Steve laughs, and it’s half at the joke and half in relief that he’s finally feeling like there’s someone on his team. Scott’s great but the hero-worship gets in the way sometimes, and Wanda’s not herself since… Everything.

“What’s the deal with white Nick Fury?” Sam jerks his head in the direction of the table in the corner of the training room, where Buffy’s team have congregated - Willow sitting with one knee pulled to her chest, Xander lounging with legs splayed akimbo and Buffy perched on the table edge between them.

Re: that last post, as we've been writing out more of [UNTITLED SLAYERVERSE PROJECT] I've been thinking a lot about the Vibes and what fantasies the story fulfills. What started out as a straight up erotic horror story has taken a decidedly gothic romantic turn (not mad about it) and it's been really interesting looking at it through pieces of media that have influenced us. There's another great post that I reblogged at one point about Labyrinth and the fantasies that that fulfills, and the role of a handsome but scary older male love interest in a coming of age setting. I've been thinking about it a lot also now having seen The Company of Wolves, which is the movie that prompted our current Madness.

Nikolae for me fulfills multiple roles, and it's very much both the Fantasy Lover and the embodiment of my fears about myself. He's a very intense and scary person who has very little self control and loves to hurt others, but he's learning control because he needs Katya so intensely that he'll do the thing that he was never willing to do for anyone else in his centuries of life just to have her. He's also the fantasy of the lover that knows what she needs, even when she doesn't. It's a rape fantasy, but as with a lot of rape fantasies it's about the plausible deniability when it comes to being forced to do things that are so filthy that it's impossible for you to articulate that you desperately want them without that burn of embarrassment consuming your soul. It's the fantasy of the lover that knows you better than you know yourself, and being set free by that corruption, that torment.

And Katya is the fantasy lover as well. She's unrelenting and cruel in many of the same ways, but in a different tone. She's clean and precise and is perfectly capable of being in charge. She is monstrous in a way that isn't gleeful like Nikolae, but is almost... (don't kill me, Cal) pragmatic. She knows what Nikolae needs, even if it's impossible for him to admit. The way that she gives him what he needs is through incredibly cruel and degrading physical and emotional violence, a complete unmaking of who he is. He's meant to be the one in control, the one who is the Lord, the Protector, the Keeper of his family's legacy -- things that he doesn't want, but was forced into. By unmaking him both physically and emotionally, he can be made into something free of those binding responsibilities.

The fantasy is freedom from repression, from gender roles, from their stations in life. As each other's fantasy lovers, they are both objects of envy and desire. They need to crawl into each other's skin and move them from the inside, both to possess and to become.

I have huge amounts of the future fics in the series outlined—like, here's all my docs for the current and future fics in the series, and every one of these docs has at least a couple hundred words in it, even if it's just "here's what I plan to write in this fic," and several of them have detailed chapter outlines and the occasional scene written:

I have a decent chunk of the next long Clark-centric bit written ("Phases") which takes place after the last published chapter of Welcome to the Mouth of Hell and before the unpublished epilogue.

(Which is part of why I haven't published the unpublished epilogue, even though it's all written and everything... But it has spoilers for Phases. The other part is that it introduces the actual Slayerverse crossover bit, and I kinda didn't want to commit to that until I had more of it written).

Unfortunately, there is some plotting in Phases that, for the audience to understand what's going on, relies on my actually finishing Bad Girls, the Gotham Sirens sidequel, which I have been really struggling to do.

I've also been working on finishing Couplet, which takes place before the last published chapter of WttMoH and might fill in enough of those holes that I could just leave Bad Girls unfinished and move on, but my writing momentum in the last several months—

(Which admittedly hasn't been a lot, given that I got laid off in February and have been spending a lot of spoons on job hunting and all that good stuff)

—has mostly been focused on finishing up the Our Flag Means Death WIPs that are, um. unfortunately also languishing. 😅💀

Honestly, I really appreciate the ask, I kinda tend to assume that no one is still interested in that series at this point since it's been on hiatus for so long! 😭 The more people bug me about it and reread the series, the more I'm likely to actually get the executive function to work on it more!

If you're not reading the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics, I get it, sure, it's got a lot of crazy ass storylines many people won't like, but just know you are missing out in the absolute silliness and hilarity that is Spike and Xander being roommates and adopting a bunch of kittens.

Shadowheart doesn’t know how long they stay wrapped up in one another, bodies woven together like braided threads. In this moment, it feels like all of history is contained within her studio apartment, like the only things that have ever mattered are the press of Astarion's body against hers, the delicate way he cradles her. Absurdly, she wonders if they could stay like this forever, if they could be the ones to finally conquer entropy. But eventually they have to part, because she needs to breathe. Because they need to talk about it. Because ultimately everything ends. He presses one final kiss to her mouth before he pulls away, taking a single step back like he’s reluctant to put too much space between them. The look he gives her is soft as he asks, “Are you going to pretend it didn’t happen this time?” And although his tone is light, teasing, she can hear the undercurrent of melancholy buried in it. “No,” she says. Her vision never strays from his. “Are you?” “No.” “Good.” Shadowheart nods. “Want to watch TV? I think Will & Grace is on.” And so they sit and watch sitcoms on a Monday afternoon, like their lives are normal lives and their relationship is a normal relationship. Like this is the kind of thing they could spend their days doing, until they got bored of each other or one of them died. She knows that isn’t what their world is, but it’s nice for a bit. To pretend.

Eventually, Shadowheart thinks to turn her phone back on, and the sudden rush of messages nearly makes her shut it off again. But then she notices she has a missed call and a voicemail from Marnley “Shit,” she mutters, opening the message while her heart thuds in a delirious, frantic tempo. Astarion looks at her, brow furrowed in concern, but she just shakes her head to silently tell him, Give me a moment. He nods and turns off the television. “Shadowheart, we have promising news.” Marnley’s voice filters out, slow and confident, through the tinny cell phone speaker. “We think we’ve narrowed down the places where the Nightsong could be hiding. We noticed strange energy patterns in Times Square and were able to follow them back to a particular area of Hamilton Heights; we should have it pinned down in no time. Call me back when you can—and remember why they call me your Watcher.” “Fuck,” Shadowheart curses. “Absolutely fuck-shitting piss.” All of a sudden, it feels like her house of cards is tumbling, and yet again it’s her own damn fault. Not for the first time—not for the first time this month, even—she ruined everything by letting herself get distracted. By letting herself get caught up in her own selfish interests and neglecting to see the bigger picture. And now Isobel and Aylin might get hurt, and it will be all her fault, and oh god—

ㅤㅤ❝ OH, GILES? I'M PRETTY SURE I KICK-STARTED HIS MID-LIFE CRISIS. ❞ He did seem a little more lost at first when she graduated. He had no job, no library to tend to, and he wasn't technically her watcher anymore. College put somewhat of a wall there. A lot of things she had to deal with on her own, especially at first, because seeing him at school every day wasn't an option anymore. But he was still there. Always ready to help if she asked. At first she'd thought that growing up meant doing things alone, but part of actually growing up was realizing that's not exactly the case. Not entirely. ❝ But he got used to it, and he was still there for me. Once he accepted that I wasn't the same little girl anymore, it got easier, and him giving me that room to grow up made us stronger instead of pushing us apart. ❞ It was good that her father and grandfather had spent so much time preparing her for this. But those duties can get oh so strenuous. Over time, it wears on you. Buffy never had the option to put it all down, neither did Faith, but that doesn't mean that this next generation can't have a better future and decide for themselves. It's not like they're lacking in numbers anymore, albeit talent is a different story. ❝ If you decide you don't want to be a Slayer, then you just don't. And you tell your parents that Buffy Summers personally gave you a permanent hall pass so you never have to pick up a weapon again. Let someone else choose the fight; someone that wants it. If your heart's not really in it, then that's just going to get you hurt. ❞

Broadly am trying to 'finish' 50 Ways to Meet Your Lover, although that is a long work in progress so I'm not beating myself up too much about that! (3 of 50 is a long way to go, but that's the end goal).

For Christmas I'm also looking to update and finish Advent, plus I've got some new Pizzaverse on the go and at least two brand-new Christmas fics I'm hoping to get written for the season, which will be posted under Christmas Time (Mistletoe & Wine).

Aaaaaand at some point I will loop back to You & Me, but I lost alllll my notes on that and need to get back to the storyboard and figure out where I was going with it (and if that still makes sense).

I do have a couple of ideas for continuations, the next part of Hocus Pocus (tentatively titled Black Magic) is one, a second part to A Twist in the Tale, two sequels to Justice is Blonde (National Treasure and one tentatively titled Jury Duty), plus I'd really like to return to The Boys in Blue as I've got a fair chunk of a sequel to that.
