i decided to change a little bit about the bäckahäst humanoid form, and realised that they have some superficial similarities to skogsrå, so heres a thing ironing out their differences a little

2: The Skogsrå from Bramble: The Mountain King
Bramble: The Mountain King is a horror and adventure game based on Nordic folklore. Naturally, the Skogsrå ("forest spirit", also known as the Huldra) is one of the bosses you have to fight. I think their design for the Skogsrå is really cool, even if they made her a bit more malicious than she was in folklore (she certainly was a dangerous creature, but she didn't kill people like that. Though considering it's supposed to be a horror game, the changes make sense).

👻 for Mercedes and Eloise please 😁
Prompts from this post. / Monster/cryptid as representation of my character
Mercedes "Mercy" Sibley | Skogsrå
Tumblr media
The Skogsrå appears like a ordinary woman from the front but seen from behind she has a tail and a hollow back or skin like tree bark. Any men enticed into following her into the forest are never seen again and she's said to keep the souls of those who would sleep with her. If the seduced man is a hunter in particular, he may be rewarded with good luck in the hunt, but should he be unfaithful to the Skogsrå, accidents would come upon him as punishment. It was believed silver bullets were effective means at killing a Skogsrå.
Endless possibilities with Mercedes' original lore being translated into this context, I would say, especially with Jacob having a thing for hunting and the woods, and just picture him crossing paths with a dangerous Skogsrå. The monologue how the ones before him were weak, etc etc.
Eloise "Lou" Morello | Harpy
Tumblr media
The harpies seem originally to have been wind spirits. When a person suddenly disappeared from the Earth, it was said that he had been carried off by the harpies. In this form they were agents of punishment who abducted people and tortured them on their way to Tartarus. They were depicted as vicious, cruel, and violent.
Need I say more really... Lou's whole purpose of capturing Sinners, being vicious and cold-blooded at her core, just fits so well with her being a Harpy. She'd totally love to be able to fly and snatch unfortunate souls.

If you’re local to the Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley area, I’ll have this drawing I did in a show at the Carter Sexton art supply store! The theme for the show was “Mythos”, so of course I had to draw a Skogsrå (aka a Huldra) a type of forest nymph from Scandinavian folklore.

Skogsrået is a forest nymph from swedish folklore. She often appears as a beautiful woman with a hollowed out back, like an old tree. In my interpretation she's more of a shapeshifter who's a part of nature and its decay, hence the skull. And I just really like drawing skulls (˵´• 3 •`˵)

Legends and myths about trees
Legendary tree deities (21)
Skogsrå – the fatal nymph of the Scandinavian forests
The Skogsrå (Swedish: lit. 'the Forest Rå'), Skogsfrun ('the Mistress of the Forest'), Skogssnuvan, Skogsnymfen ('the Forest Nymph'), Råndan ('the Rå') or Huldran, is a mythical female creature of the forest in Swedish folklore.
It appears in the form of a small, beautiful woman with a seemingly friendly temperament. She appears like a woman from the front but seen from behind she often has a tail and a hollow back or skin like tree bark.
Those who are enticed into following her into the forest are never seen again. It was said that any human man who had intercourse with the Skogsrå became an introvert, as his soul had remained with her. If the seduced man is a hunter, he may be rewarded with good luck in the hunt, but should he be unfaithful to the Skogsrå, he will be punished with numerous accidents. He may put an end to a stormy night caused by her vengeance by firing a shot against her. Late folklore in Nyland, Finland describes silver bullets as effective means of killing a skogsrå.
Tolkien describes the Old Forest, a space filled with deep-rooted mysteries and danger in Middle-earth, as follows:
“The ground was rising steadily, and as they went forward it seemed that the trees became taller, darker, and thicker. There was no sound, except an occasional drip of moisture falling through the still leaves. For the moment there was no whispering or movement among the branches; but they all got an uncomfortable feeling that they were being watched with disapproval, deepening to dislike and even enmity. The feeling steadily grew, until they found themselves looking up quickly, or glancing back over their shoulders, as if they expected a sudden blow.”

Hey. @mediocreskelebug. Hey. I drew Sun as a Skogsrå. And white girl pronounced it several times before finally looking up the pronunciation and failing even more.

Also had an idea of something the skogsrå do in the au, they disguise themselves with illusions, but the reason they only appear to lost humans is because they need feelings of distress and such that you'd feel while lost to make the illusions

If the husband a hulder obtains turns out to betray them, be cruel, or be unfaithful, she will either humble him through sheer show of force (such as showing off a feat of her raw physical strength) or punish them.
