Process, WIPs and detail rambling under the cut:

Sara and I rarely get to do detailed, non-comic page illustration work, and wanted to get some painterly texture to set this apart from regular comic panels. We did some tests early on in the process:

(inked lineart on the left and graphite lineart on the right)

Sara used some soft, chunky (8B!!!) graphite pencils to get the storybook texture we ended up going with. I also used a gritty digital "gouache" brush to softly paint the whole illustration, and used a watercolor texture overlay I had on hand for added crunch.

These are the rough sketches I sent in to our editor and designer- I normally do a rough color pass at this stage. It's a little extra work, but it's worth it to not feel totally lost on color later in the process.

This is the first full render of anything I've done for near three years, and keeping it black and white was enough for practice. I tried colour, but it wouldn't convey the atmo as well.

Part of my resolutions for 2025 is to get back into shape again. Haven't had as much joy painting since the Cyclops Saga aired and gigi's and mircsy's stunning animatics dislodged a real old bottlecap on my joy of the arts. Being part of this fandom brought a huge breath of fresh air to a house full of grief and stale air.

So, ... thank you, the fan creators in the fandom, for your tireless work and passion and your tremendous loveliness.

Bonus for realness, folks, because my painting process is usually smth like this: As long as there's an angry Klingon in there, I AIN'T FINISHED. And yeah - CLIP Studio on my phone, that's all atm, I use pretty much the vanilla brushes and edit for contrast in another app after exporting - so the stuff is probs not very printable aside A6, but maybe in the future I'll do larger formats.

In an interesting change of pace, here’s artwork showcasing people. Gotta get out of my comfort zone somehow.

Subject of choice is Chell, featuring her appearances from Portal and Portal 2 respectively. My goal was to be as accurate as possible to the in-game models while staying within the limits of my style. I wanted to try my hand at drawing stylized human faces while keeping them recognizable to the source material, so this was a pretty experimental sketch. was also testing out brushes. I think I managed to capture her facial features well enough.

(What, its totally normal for an Idol to trespass the dark infinites to find a fuck-buddy; do you really think your favorites aren't doing it too?) Gahyeon calmly adjusts her outfit, as she prepares to start the incantation; first impressions are Important, you can't just greet your new friend butt-naked and bent over! (Well you can, it's just impolite) Unwords spill from Gahyeon's perky lips, scarring the air itself as she slowly makes several circuits around her summoning circle. An unhealthy light begins to grow around the discarded food-scraps, until they are burning with unnatural colors; then with a disgusting shlorp they disappear. Gahyeon blinks, did it work? Then a glowing pool of liquid appears, filling the circle until it is bubbling up the wards on the sides; a success!

Gahyeon squats in front of the unearthly puddle, impatient for any sign of the being she had supposedly just summoned. Now first of all I don't think this is finished. Lots of lighting and making is an actual poster to happen. I just know it's going to take me some time to get the motivation again, So I'm sharing it now.

But other than the fact this isn't really finished. I'm starting to really love this watercolor brush. I don't think I've really dedicated myself to a close-up drawing like this in a long time. Although I will point out that it's hilarious that the only times I can think of that I have. Are all of Jack. Man do I love this guy. Anyways. Close-ups are usually reverted to sketches. It's not exactly a normal thing that I color them. Takes too much time in my opinion.

But I was able to do this in one day. Sure there's a lot of extra pieces. Most importantly the lighting and a more proper background. But I was able to complete this sketch and color it in relatively easily. Sure I already had the sketch planned. But it's kind of interesting to see how far I've gotten with quickness.

But anyways. I am starting to get so engaged with this watercolor brush. I started using it in backgrounds. I enjoyed the texture and the way how stuff naturally blended without me having to go through a whole bunch of other loops. It was just a nice brush and it made for some nice out of focus backgrounds. But I hadn't used it as my main still because.. well. It blended too good. Colors are often lost. There's technically some colors lost here too. A lot of things got darker. But it's not as much as before.

I finally decided to mess with the brushes settings. I usually don't mess with them unless it's the scatter option. Which I use for easy stardust. But I finally decided to test some of the brushes. Most importantly the watercolor since I was enjoying it so much. I only really had one problem. I just had to figure out how to make it not blend as well. Turns out it was an easy solution. Just one little setting dragged to be a little lesser. And all my previous problems were practically fixed. Sure I still have to paint over a couple times and make sure the blend is seamless. But it is so much easier now.

I'm going to hopefully use this piece to test some lighting. Again with that watercolor brush. But I also have unique ways of doing my lightings. Mostly in the fact that I shade with pencil and light with color. So I guess we will see. But I really enjoy this piece. The pose is simple enough. Just Jack leaning slightly forward holding a pumpkin. Boy did I struggle with those hands. But it's technically built to be an animated poster at some point. His hands are supposed to float away from the pumpkin. Along with maybe a head tilt and ray retraction. But that's something definitely going to happen later. Otherwise it's a pretty great still poster. Even if I still got to put up the poster label.

Art I post online is mostly digital. I use Krita 5.1.5 and I got brushes I use form this site below!

I have tested quite a lot of brush packs until I found the brushes I feel the most comfy with.

Dirty chalk for children (...because I'm such a child sometimes xd) Honestly it's amazing, most textures in my works are made with assistance of these.

Hello! I've been following your Creekclan videos and watching you draw is really inspiring for me! I was wondering, if you're comfortable with sharing, if you could make a tutorial of sorts on how you shade your drawings in those videos? It's a very pretty way to shade and I'm curious about what your process is. No worries if you wouldn't like to share that, and thank you for your time :3

Hi ! Thank you so much for following my series !!! :) I will try to post the tutorial here :

STEP 1 : Paint your character ! Here we will take Toadjump as our test subject !

STEP 2 : Add the shadows based on your light source ! (I generally use a high sun) For the colors of the shadow, if your character is directly under the sky, I would use blue, and if under trees or vegetation, a more green shadow, but it's really up to you and the colors you wish to have ! I would also recommend using a textured brush for this step !

STEP 3 : Now, lock your shadow on its layer so you can paint only within it ! With an "airbrush" brush, add some orangy/brown ! The orange should be lighter than the blue, but don't make it too light !

STEP 4 : This one is optional ! Add lighter and more vibrant / satured blue opposed to the orange ! This blue is mainly on the exterior of the body or on the limbs that are "behind" the body ! This color is used as a reflexion from the environment's colors. If you use a white background, this lighter blue is alright ! If your character is in a forest, maybe use a more greenish blue, and etc depending of the colors of the environment (I hope this is understandable !)

STEP 5 : Simply reduce the shadow layer's opacity ! I usually put it around 45% so the shadow isn't too harsh, but depending on your environment, ambiance and lighting, you can vary this setting !

I mainly use this shading technique for my sketches as it is really quick and easy to do ! I hope this tutorial is clear enough, I hope it helps you !! :)

GAHHHH I AM LOVING THE RESURGENCE OF GRAVITY FALLS!! Especially my fav Bill,, I’ve been so hyped about the book of Bill since December and even if I don’t have it I am going FERAL for the fan works. I love these brush tests I did, I didn’t intend for it to be a whole sketch page but I think it turned out pretty well! The human designs definitely need some work, I was mainly inspired by 2D Bill by eksvnd but I don’t think it works for me. Skin was inspired by plenty of artists but mainly sleepypupa. I want to play with the design a lot more but I love the bones so far. Also I have basically all my commissions info ready so when I set up the dedicated post I’ll link it here too if anyone is interested :3

Starting my day with a fresh environment study. After testing out new brushes for foliage and leaves I immediately came back to missis Shrimp and did this sketch while talking on the phone - it took me somewhat 20 minutes.

Pretty sure that I got missis Shrimp (who's real name is apparently *checks the list* ...Splerdge) from Lorandesore brush pack. And yeah, I usually use references for my studies, and I took this photo while hiking.

Here she is, my beautiful missis Shrimp. She's number 84, but for me she is a number 1.
