Karadaiyan Nombu 2021 Date
Karadaiyan Nombu will be celebrated on 14th March, Sunday of 2021. Karadaiyan Nombu is celebrated when the transition between two Tamil Months takes place. It is celebrated exactly when Maasi month ends and Panguni month starts.
Karadaiyan Nombu Story & Significance
Karadaiyan Nombu festival celebration is associated with Savitri, the daughter of King Astapathi, and her husband Satyavan. Karadaiyan Nombu is also known as ‘Savitri Nonbu Vratham’.
Satyavan was the son of a blind royal couple living in exile. The family was ousted from the kingdom by enemies.
While finalizing the marriage of Savitri with Satyavan, the king was cautioned by Sage Narada, that Satyavan will not live more than one year citing the planetary position in his horoscope.
Being aware of the death of her husband, and to protect his life Savitri was observing ardent prayers and vrats/vraths (Fasts). On the day when Maasi month was ending, and Panguni was starting, Yamaraj (Yama) arrived on bullock to claim the life of Satyavan.
Savitri followed Yama, carrying her husband’s soul. Getting pleased by her persistent efforts and vrats, prayers she performed for her husband Yama, granted her three boons.
She was able to extend her husband’s life by performing vrats and prayers.
Savitri is hailed as Pativrata, a staunch devout wife.
The vrath is named after Savitri, married and unmarried can observe Karadaiyan Nombu vrath. Married women observe this vrath for the longevity and well-being of their husbands while unmarried girls observe Karadaiyan Nombu get an ideal life partner.
Karadaiyan Nombu Pooja
Falling on 14th March 2021 Karadaiyan Nombu is observed performing pooja and rituals. For performing rituals you need some savitri vratam pooja samagri (Pooja Items).
Savitri vratam pooja samagri includes,
Flowers
Kolam (Rangoli)
Flower Garlands, Flower Strings
Banana Leaves
Mango Leaves
Karadai Nombu Saradu/Charadai(Yellow Thread)
Coconut
Haldi, Kumkum
Tambulam
Women observe fast and perform pooja, chant mantras on Karadaiyan Nombu.  The fast is broken after performing rituals by eating Karadai preparation. A special naivedya dish is prepared on this day called ‘Karadai Nombu Adai’.
Panguni Uthiram (Gowri Kalyanam Day)

Panguni Uthiram will be celebrated on 28th March 2021. When the moon transits in the nakshatram of Uttara-phalguni (Uthiram) of Tamil month, Panguni- Panguni Uthiram is observed.
Panguni Uthiram Significance and Story
Panguni Uthiram is also observed as a Gowri Kalyanam day. This festival is celebrated with great zeal by the Tamils not only in India but across the globe.
Panguni Uthiram is associated with Lord Muruga, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy.
Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvathy, Lord Muruga married Deivanai on this day. So, this day is considered very auspicious and significant by the Tamils.
Devotees flock to temples on this day to perform pooja and seek blessings. Many temples conduct the wedding of the God and Goddess residing in the temple.
The divine marriage of Lord Muruga with Valli and Deivanai is inscribed in Jayantipura Mahatmaya.
As per the Skanda Purana, Deivanai and Valli were destined to marry Lord Muruga. In their early lives, they were named Amrithavalli and Sundaravalli. Later on, they were separated following their adoptions by two different people. Post adoptions Amrithavalli and Sundaravalli were rechristened as Devainai and Valli.
The first daughter was adopted by Indra. The second was adopted by a tribal king.
Lord Muruga got married to Devainai When he killed the evil Demons.
Later, Lord Muruga married Valli with the help of his brother Lord Ganesha.
Rituals of Panguni Uthiram
Devotees cook special dishes and offer them as a prasad to Lord Muruga. The idol of Lord Muruga gets beautifully decorated with flowers, flower garlands.
Devotees observe a strict fast. Recite prayers and special chants like Kanda Shashti Kavasam, Kanda Puranam, on Panguni Uthiram.
