Still one of my favorite moments in the whole show. It's fucking hilarious but also shows that Sixta understands the stress these guys are under and need something to be mad about that's just fucking stupid, not fucking life-threatening.

“Washington Huskies Owe Title to Syracuse ... Claim of Foul Is Never Pressed”

Syracuse Herald (Syracuse, New York)

Syracuse University’s crew was a victim of an emergency measure by Washington in the 1936 regatta at Poughkeepsie, which might have brought about disqualification of the Huskies, as race winners, if Syracuse had pressed a claim of foul.

The New Yorker tells the story in a tribute to Robert G. "Bob" Moch, Washington coxswain.

"He told us the story of how Syracuse helped Washington win the Poughkeepsie race, thus putting Washington in fine fettle for the Olympic trials. Seems that in the No.7 lane at Poughkeepsie there is an eddy along about the three-mile mark, created by a projecting abutment of a bridge. Ulbrickson, the Washington coach, was horrified when his crew drew the seventh lane, and instructed Moch to steer over into the sixta lane, which was Syracuse's, and avold the eddy. Moch gradually began inching over, and before the bridge was reached was right in Syracuse's lage, the Syracuse oars almost ticking Washington's.”

"The Syracuse coxswain bawled at Moch to get over, and so did the referee, but Washington just kept on going, and finally pulled ahead of Syracuse. They went under the bridge in Syracuse's lane, and won the race by a length. 'If you get in that eddy you lose two or three lengths sure, Moch told us. That means we'd have lost the race.' The Syracuse coxswain was all for reporting these goings-on and claiming a foul, but the Syracuse stroke—‘a fine fellow,’ Moch says earnestly—good-naturedly persuaded him not to.”

Since the 1990s, the virus and the network metaphors have become increasingly popular, finding application in a broad range of everyday discourses, academic disciplines, and fiction genres. In this book, Rahel Sixta Schmitz defines and discusses a trope recurring in Gothic fiction: the supernatural media virus. This trope comprises the confluence of the virus, the network, and a deep, underlying media anxiety. This study shows how Gothic narratives such as House of Leaves or The Ring feature the supernatural media virus to negotiate as well as actively shape imaginations of the network society and the dangers of a globalized, technologized world.

Shiki is a rather quiet woman, often keeps to herself and is usually very calm. However, that doesn’t mean that anyone can go up to her and mess around. Oh no no no, that’s like poking a sleeping bear. In the words of Shiki herself, “I am not responsible for whatever happens after.” She just wished that lady in the bar listened to her when she decided that Shiki would be her victim that night. She could’ve avoided being in the hospital right now, and Shiki wouldn’t be in the city jail reveling in her rage. Siesta inclusion in our class curriculum

Siesta is a short nap taken in the early afternoon, often after mid-day lunch meal. This tradition is mostly an influence from our Spanish Colonizers which the word is derived from Sixta Hora or the 6th Hour of the day.
