people who are only obsessed with japanese jazz get a lot of flack but logistically the only reason they dont like american jazz is because theyve never heard american fusion. when they think of jazz they think of the NYC scene from the late 50's early 60's which has a higher barrier to entry than early 70s american funk-fusion. listen to some jazz rock please you already like it

I just have to remind myself sometimes that no matter what anyone else says, the way a piece of media makes me feel and the positive impact it has had on my queer identity is valid, and that tearing myself apart thinking I have to defend it or questioning my own place within queer communities is not at all important when compared to the almost tangible sense of 'rightness' that piece of media helped me to feel about myself.
#just something i've been pondering the last few days#kind of like no matter how much people debate or i suppose theoretically deconstruct media featuring queer stories#the most important thing is how it makes a queer person feel#and I do think it is of course a good thing to ensure queer stories are executed with respect and authenticity#but there's this grey area in fandom spaces in which people may have found rep from a 'unreliable' source i suppose#or something which is queerbaiting- sherlock springs to mind for example yet if people have been able to explore and nurture their own#queerness through that media does that therefore mean their experience is invalid? i don't think so#and my worry is the more we focus on theory the less we focus on emotion and therefore the actual queer experience itself#and sure theory can inform the queer experience and ensure the media is a 'healthy' site of queer identity formation and identity aid#but at the same time scorning or being rude to those who have found certain media an aid is not the right approach to be taking#especially as queer experiences are so wide ranging that one person's idea of 'good' representation is someone's else's of 'bad'#and that unless a piece of media is clearly offensive in its portrayal of queer experience there has to be some benefit of doubt#I think we're still in a period of progression in media espc tv where queer creators are coming to the fore of their own stories#and we've got to 'live and let live' a little about where people are finding sights of queer validation and joy#and perhaps this a naive and simplistic way of thinking but i think queer people can either recognise when something isn't the best rep#but was helpful for them anyway and therefore in a way confer 'ownership' of the media to themselves in how they engage#or there is variety in queer experiences represented in media so that perhaps not everyone finds a 'site' of rep but that does not#therefore invalidate it or make it 'bad' representation#this is just my opinion and it'd be hypocritical for me to not now mention this is only formed from my own queer experience lol#so i'm not trying to tell anyone how to feel or anything just something i'm pondering

hey uh… you haven’t given up on devius ex machina have you?
Nope, not at all. Updates have just been dry because I lost some motivation for maintaining the site and news posts, but it has a blog system now where I'll release longer updates than I can on other socials. I've made more progress recently on The Rekindled than I have in months, actually, so its still going strong! It's about 80% complete now. The long development time has mostly been due to us devs being busy with other things and because I have very bad perfectionism, but I've made some resolutions for the new year to work on that so that it doesn't take a billion years to release a major installment.
If I genuinely started burning out on the AU and was taking distance from it, I'd be clear to announce that. If Im quiet for a while, it's just because the ADHD demons make it difficult to exist and talk consistently on more than one platform at a time, lol. Don't worry, I'm just as passionate about Devius Ex Machina as I have been since the beginning and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

in a perfect world frontiers would've leaned more heavily onto the elements of exploration and combat, taking the wonder rise of lyric wanted to create with the way it places the player into ancient ruins and abandoned facilities to learn more about them, and replicating the love that went into unleashed's werehog gameplay that gave us a fleshed out combo system and a competent beat-em-up. alas sega is a coward, and in this essay i will -

Why is RT taking RVB off of YouTube?
short answer:
Tumblr media
long answer: rt never explained why explicitly, but given that they did say that they were gonna change how the first release schedule was going to work going forward in this video, people put 2 and 2 together and figured that they're privatizing most of rvb (and camp camp... and rwby years back....) to get more traffic and revenue on the rt site
imo, it's fine in theory, but privating the complete rvb seasons the same day the announcement video went up (or at least very close to it) is extremely scummy

Too many people on this site either don't know how the US government works out of ignorance or seem to actively avoid learning anything about it. Like, please, learn the very basics if you don't know them. In order to even have a chance of having a well-informed opinion about American politics you should know what the three branches of the federal government are, what their responsibilities are, and how they interact with each other. Like, this is literally US Gov 101 material right here. Seriously, we learned this shit in elementary school, that's how basic it is.
Now, if this seems to describe you and you're not American, that's okay; I wouldn't expect you to have learned how our government works in school--I imagine you learned about your own instead. But if you wish to voice opinions on US politics and not risk looking like you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, I would encourage you to learn these basics anyway.
And if this describes you and you are American, you should be fucking embarrassed. Do better.

i don't think people talk enough about how shoddy the dothraki are as a fantasy counterpart culture of horse-riding nomads
the cultures grrm mentioned as inspirations, the central asian steppe nomads and plains indians, are not only very different from each other in very important ways, but very different from the dothraki in ways that betray some very questionable beliefs and assumptions about real-life nomadic cultures
i personally trust his judgment here. even a cursory reading of the dothraki came off as odd to me: what do you mean these fantasy nomadic characters supposedly based on real cultures have no personality beyond raping, murdering, and enslaving?
