And I just... I can't imagine Lynn that way. Or actually, I... I can imagine it, and that's the problem. It hurts my heart.

I very much want to hire Sister Andrea to kill all the demons in my life.
The way she just walks up them, completely chill.
She boops their snoots like it’s nothing. Because to her, it is!

Finally caught up on the series finale of Evil, and DAMN, I'm gonna miss this hilarious, creepy, weird AF show. I'm not 100% on how every character/subplot wrapped up this season, but I really enjoyed this last episode so much. It was a lot of fun, nowhere near as depressing as I feared (pretty much everyone survives, even Sister Andrea AND Ben!!!), and just a pretty solid conclusion overall.
Also, like. The scene where Kristen nearly murders Leland, I mean ...

My wife introduced me to a little show called #evil on #ParamountPlus on a total lark, and we binged the thing pretty quickly. Everyone knows there's more story to tell - and hopefully we can get it renewed! Here are my thoughts: #SaveEvil

Are we just not going to talk about the fact that "I'm one fish short of being a crazy fish lady" lower-and-upper-case-J-Joy and knife/shovel-wielding, bat-stabbing Sister Andrea the Demon Slayer are both played by Andrea Martin? <3

I’ve only had Sister Andrea for a day and a half, but if anything happened to her I would kill everyone in the room and then myself

How many did you see? I killed four. I think there are six more. You need to exorcise the rest.

So THAT’s how EVIL ends?
I feel like there are some loose ends still need tying up.
1. I hardly think that box will be enough to contain Leland. Yes, Sister Andrea is there. But will she and that rickety old box be enough?
2. At the start of the season we see the hydrogen collider. Throughout the episode it’s hinted that something HUGE will go down once it’s turned on. I assumed that it would be brought back in the finale. Or at least worked in again. But aside from casual mentions, it’s never factored into the plot.
In screen writing class we were taught that timelines are important. If you bring one up early in the script it’ll matter in the end. This series brought up when the collider would be activated. And then we don’t see what happens when it does.
3. During the last few episodes we’ve realized that The Entity or “Friend’s of the Vatican,” may be more EVIL than good. They may actually commit the sin of killing. Yes, David DOES call them out on that. He does say he wants things done differently. And he does convince his coworkers to burn the assessment files. But I expected more. I expected him to find out that THEY were actually just as EVIL as the 60. Even though he got his assessment job back, why trust The Entity at all now?
4. Why show Timothy having demonic traits for a second? Why do that when the show is ending? This would be fine if EVIL was getting more seasons. But it’s not. This is the end. Finito. Done.
It reminds me of the 90s Mario movie. The Princess BARGES in asking for help at the end and we don’t get more. And now we have this. Kristin noticing something off about her 5th kid and brushing it off.
We need more!!
5. Andy is just gone now? Won’t his kids miss him?
So many loose ends.

My peak tv Journey *Evil*
I am uncertain if I want to restart my ongoing post of writing about the show. At the least I’ve taken off this season. I haven’t noticed much writing about it, but I haven’t been looking either.
I liked the third better than the second season, which had too much of Leland’s conspiracy group. Here they’re more in the background and are mostly seen from the point of view of The Vatican’s Entity, which is a better perspective for the series ambivalent tone. (While the season was airing I saw Brian D’Arcy James, who plays The Entity’s Victor LeConte in Into The Woods as The Baker. He has range.) That said the ongoing plot about Leland, Sheryl and company kidnapping Kristen’s husband Andy was shocking and disturbing. Leland’s “writing advice” to Kurt Boggs was silly, but got disturbing the more dedicated Kurt was to it.
It’s the second show I watched this summer with Andrea Martin on it. My feelings about her character oscillate. Some times she sees though peoples bullshit, but she’s also a fanatic who threatens to unbalance the series tension between supernatural and mundane explanations.
Wish there was more Ben. Season two was better with this. But I do appreciate seeing more of his sister, Karima and their club of super smart people.
The second season end with a cliffhanger of David and Kristen kissing after she confessed her murder of serial killer Orson LeRuox. The sexual tension between David and Kristen dissipate after the kiss, at least from her side. David’s started seeing a demon who looked like Kristen and regularly flirted with him. Kristen’s issues were more about modeling strong, assertive behavior to her children. And I liked how impossible it seemed to be good while doing this. Also it included more time with her children, who are all becoming more distinct and involved.
I have often thought that one of the things I like about Evil is that the main characters aren’t cops. They don’t carry around firearms, they can’t arrest or threaten to arrest anyone. It tends to mean that the climaxes feel a little anticlimactic, but in a way that works to keep things unsettled. I’m not entirely satisfied by this season, but some of that is just because I want more.
