Yomi 2 Fighting Card Game: Introducing Bal-Bas-Beta, the Clockwork Guardian
Yomi 2 fighting card game gets a new character and language support on Linux and Steam Deck with Mac and Windows PC. Thanks to the creative team at Sirlin Games. Available via Steam Early Access with 88% Very Positive reviews. Yomi 2 is here, and it's the sequel to the awesome fighting card game by David Sirlin. The brains behind Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Fantasy Strike. This time, we have a new character, Bal-Bas-Beta, the Clockwork Guardian. While adding language support for French, Chinese, and Russian, with Japanese, Spanish, and German coming soon. You can grab it in Early Access for Linux and Steam Deck. In Yomi 2, you get to choose from 14 unique fighters, with two more in the expansion and even more coming later. Each fighter has their own playstyle and moves, so there's a lot to learn and master. You'll draw cards representing different fighting techniques and start planning your strategy before the match even begins. You can interrupt slow attacks with quick jabs, knock your opponent down to set up combos, and break their defenses with smart card plays leading to epic, high-damage finishers. Yomi 2 fighting is all about reading your opponent and figuring out their habits. Each character has unique mechanics inspired by classic fighting titles, like combos, frame data, attack priority, and special cancels. Whether you pick someone because they wield a paintbrush or just because they look cool, there's a lot of depth to explore. You’ll need to be smart about closing the gap to stop fireball spammers, watch out for grappler’s command grabs, and use your strengths to win.

You can also enhance your special moves with one of six gems (eight if you have the Renegades expansion) to turn the tide in your favor. Master your character in single-player Career mode, where you’ll face off against hundreds of colorful personalities in the city. Practice your combos in the training lab and test new tactics against the CPU in one-off battles. For competitive players, Yomi 2 has a brand-new setting that captures the excitement of real-time fighting titles. You can join matchmaking for ranked or casual play, or go local with pass-and-play. Asynchronous multiplayer is also on the way, letting you play multiple matches at once while waiting for your next turn. Yomi 2 fighting through Early Access isn't just about finishing the digital title. It's also about developing and balancing a future physical tabletop card game with the same rules and mechanics. David Sirlin, President and Founder of Sirlin , says feedback is super important. They want to get Yomi 2 into the hands of passionate players now to shape its future. You can’t patch a physical card title after it’s released, so community feedback will help balance the digital title and make the physical version perfect. You can get Yomi 2 now, fighting in Early Access on Steam for Linux, Steam Deck, Mac, and Windows PC. Priced at $24.99 USD / £20.99 / 24,50€ on Steam Early Access. Dive in, have fun, and help shape the future of this exciting title.

this is an actual question - what is the point of playing factorio with a strictly main-bus design. what's the point in it. it's very, idk, you've written a set of rules to solve all situations, what's the point of manually and laboriously executing those rules to their end. you've already won.
this feels metaphysically adjacent to the thing where i refuse to be good at games where (say) you have to pick your battles, or trade off victory points vs. engine building, because playing the game is fun and taking actions that reduce the amount of game there is have a built in downside. but i'm not sure how to link the two together, or if the perceived connection is entirely spurious.
maybe it's entirely down to "kill sirlin et al." idk.

here's a video from sirlin, a game designer for competitive games, on a channel mostly about game design!
youtube
and a truly important video (pls watch it it's short and well worth it)
youtube
game design youtube is kind of like if you were a competent chef looking to find out how to improve your craft but all you could find were videos made by people who claim to be good at cooking because they eat a lot of meals, and everyone seems to recommend them, but when you look at what they're saying its either the most obvious shit in the world like "you should cook your food" or a completely batshit take like "dump an entire shaker of salt on your dish because I like a little bit of salt on my dish." and you go "okay, well maybe they have experience in making dishes at least" and you google them and you find out the only meal they've ever made in their life is microwaving a hot pocket. and they're sponsored by fucking betterhelp.

Spartan X June 21, 1985 // Family Computer
Released under the way more reasonable title Kung-Fu in the West, this is a single plane brawler where, wait for it, you have to rescue your girlfriend. Using kung-fu. Though this is an arcade conversion, Miyamoto was actually responsible for the Famicom port of this game, reportedly wanting to get more experience making side-scrolling action games on the platform. I wonder if that guy will ever make a game like that.
Regardless, Spartan X has fast-paced, responsive combat where you get the classic, satisfying one hit kill on most enemies. You can punch and kick, but I found I only ever really needed to kick, especially low kick as this also kills the midget enemies (??) that are mixed in with regular sized ones. Sirlin was right: low strong always wins. Unfortunately there are only five levels before the game loops, so it's pretty short, but it's a fun game.

*Male Ryona Caution (*Mr. Geiger suffers a terrible fate due to a certain legendary supernewtype)。
※Tips:SEED
…。
"Are you trying to tell me that I'm making a bad suggestion?Geiger=San?"
(...I can't wait to turn in my resignation. .......)
"Now, let's get on with today's business. Let's get to work today on the BBB design, your idea, you've been wanting to build for some time. ......."
(I didn't realize that his ability to predict the future was so incompatible and unfavorative with my ability to manipulate time. ......)
Scirocco's foreknowledge with his new type ability was functioning as a meta superiority over Geiger. ...He could make the first move against any attack at any time by Giger, who could even stop the time. What a fearful thing.
Every move this side (Geiger) makes will be crushed.
Cause of Geiger was completely outmatched by Scirocco, who was a better amateur fighter than he was.
He was not about to let him get away with it!
"I can't stay silent while I'm being licked. ......!"
Geiger then took bold action.
He was not going to let that happen.
"Today's another day at work. But General Onimaru also praises my work. Even more than you, Geiger, or whatever you call yourself......Hahah!!!"
...At that moment, Geiger points a gun at Scirocco.
"Freeze!"
"What's wrong? You pointing a gun at me?Geiger=san?"
"Move and I'll shoot."
Saying so, Geiger, who had taken the gun from Scirocco's pocket by time-stopping before, points the standard of the gun at Scirocco.
"I didn't expect to find that lost gun here. I'm glad. You had it."
"I'm quitting today!"
"Huh....."
"Don't think you can keep your strong power because of your competence forever!!"
"...ah, I'm sad. I've been betrayed by my subordinates......."
"I deserved it. Frankly, it's already too late, but perhaps you should take a moment to reflect on your own words and actions."
"Yes, ....... I'll let you have all the fun and pain only for me I want."
"Don't say that!"
"I see it! There!"
At this point, Scirocco - who sounds like the pilot of the MS called "the white devil of the E.F.S.F." - takes advantage of the gap when Geiger fires his gun and restrains his body and neck with a steel rope with sharp spikes, which he had prepared in advance.
---- How do you like it? The first thing that comes to mind is the fact that the gun is a gun.
Guuuuuuuhhhh......!
---- Damn it!
Geiger's time stop can only be used when he is on the ground, and while he is stopped in time, he can avoid matter in the world with his own power, but he cannot move it.
And even if he tries to use phase-out, the sharp spikes are poisoned - albeit only to the point of numbing his entire body to the point of intense pain - so even if he flies back to the future for a moment to avoid the restraints, he will still be hit by the intense poison.
In short, it was a Puptimus Scirocco ----"handful of geniuses" who exploited that weakness. What a splendid!
The game was decided from the start that Geiger was going to lose.
Even if he could "escape to the future" for a moment by escaping with a phase-out, he would eventually suffer from the intense numbing poison.
And even before that, even if he used the time stop, he was in a state of intense pain and numbness caused by the numbing poison, and when he could not release the extremely severe restraints by Scirocco,Geiger's defeat in the name of death from lack of oxygen was decided, but ......?
"...I want to avoid just dying a dog's death. ......!"
Afterwards.
"The battle is over. How do you feel now? How do you feel now, Mr. Geiger?"
Scirocco is unharmed and in good health,
However,Geiger couldn't moan or beg for his life, he couldn't say anything, he was in terrible numbness and intense pain,......, ... and in agony.
He was in such agony and pain that he was in terrible numbness. ...... Scirocco, unable to bear the sight of him, showed mercy.
"I feel sorry for you. I'll give you the antidote. I don't want to lose a good and valuable person like you."
With that, he drops a bottle of the antidote near Geiger. He then drops the bottle of antidote near Geiger, "Either you need someone to give you a drink to you or drink it yourself. Since I have been betrayed by you, I have no obligation to give you the antidote.
With a high laugh, Scirocco was laughing at Geiger, who was lying on the ground in a pitiful state.
…。

Scirocco betrayed Colonel Basque and Jamitov and took over the Titans in story of the Z gundam

reminds me of sirlin's idea of the scrub
In Street Fighter, the scrub labels a wide variety of tactics and situations “cheap.” This “cheapness” is truly the mantra of the scrub. Performing a throw on someone is often called cheap.
You will not see a classic scrub throw his opponent five times in a row. But why not? What if doing so is strategically the sequence of moves that optimizes his chances of winning?
finchley station is the scrub game, all the rules except the honor code tossed to the side. there's something really compelling about it
The origins of The Game are uncertain. The most common hypothesis as is that The Game derives from another mental game, Finchley Central. While the original version of Finchley Central involves taking turns to name stations, in 1976 some members of the Cambridge University Science Fiction Society (CUSFS) developed a variant where the first person to think of the titular station loses. The game in this form demonstrates ironic processing, in which attempts to suppress or avoid certain thoughts make those thoughts more common or persistent than they would be at random.
How this became simplified into The Game is unknown; one hypothesis is that once it spread outside the Greater London area, among people who are less familiar with London stations, it morphed into its self-referential form. The creators of "LoseTheGame.net", a website which aims to catalogue information relating to the phenomenon, have received messages from multiple former members of the CUSFS commenting on the similarity between the Finchley Central variant and the modern Game. The first known reference to The Game is a blog post from 2002 – the author states that they "found out about it online about 6 months ago".
Finchley Central is a mind game in which two players take turns naming stations in the London Underground. The first person to name Finchley Central is the winner. Of course, the first player could say "Finchley Central" straight away, but as mathematics professor Jonathan Partington notes,
An opening move of "Finchley Central" is too much of a cheat, and you might wish to start with, say, Liverpool Street, when, assuming that your opponent isn't rude enough to reply with Finchley Central, leaves you with a mate on your second move (though you probably would prefer to stall by playing, say, Bank, in the hopes of a more spectacular win later).
It is clear that the ‘best’ time to say Finchley Central is exactly before your opponent does. Failing that it is good that he should be considering it. You could, of course, say ‘Finchley Central’ on your second turn. In that case, your opponent puffs on his cigarette and says, ‘Well… Shame on you.’
I think the American mind cannot comprehend the nature of finchley central

a valuable lesson I got from David Sirlin: team-game ELO hell isn't real — if you're good at, let's say, DOTA2, and you're playing Bronze over and over with total rubes without being able to climb the ranks, the framing you need is that you are playing in a different metagame. it's a massively dysfunctional meta and it sucks, but it's a meta and you need to adapt to it rather than play like you're in the metagame that prevails among people who are actually good at the game. if you're good at the game you probably have the self-image of "I'm good at the game" and thus it will be difficult for you to play in the bottom-of-the-barrel meta because that meta is dysfunctional and requires that you do things that, because they are extremely not the things you would do in the functional, non-crap meta, will conflict with that self-image (also sometimes they'll be things that you're just not good at doing because they are bad things everyone in the functional meta strenuously avoids doing). but if you don't do those things, well, you're an individual and the metagame is the collective action of everybody playing in it: you will lose. you need to play the game you're actually in, not the one you wish you were in.
sometimes this lesson transfers to non-game contexts.
