ok I could write pages about Michael & Saru I have a horrible disease. in short; Michael was orphaned as a human and adopted by a vulcan family, growing up feeling like she would never belong, overcompensating for everything, repressing who she is to try and fit in in a world that isn't hers. Saru is a refugee* from a non-federation planet - he thinks he can never go back due to first contact. being the first and only of his kind in starfleet - to even know about starfleet - he wants desperately to make a good impression. they have automatic language translators but he still learns 94 federation languages. they both had to leave siblings** behind, and found that comfort in each other; two people who never thought they would belong finding belonging in each other. helloooooo. him they are both captain of discovery at some point, and both appoint the other as their number one. *crash course: Saru' species, Kelpiens, live on Kaminar, alongside a second sapient species, the Ba'ul. who eat Kelpiens when they go through a biological process called the vahar'ai. **Michael's brother is Spock startrek. she still uses her family name, though. Saru left his sister Siranna behind when he fled Kaminar, though he brought one possession of hers - a knife. OK IT TIES TOGETHER NOW. Saru experiences his own vahar'ai on the discovery, and believes it is going to kill him - he lies in his room, surrounded by plants from his home planet, having let nobody but Michael see him for days. He asks her to take his sister's knife and kill him. (ofc he survives but damn that shit was intense. the bffs ever. what the fuck.) HELLOOOO AM I SPEAKING TO A WALL RN!?!?! probably yeah. believe it or not this IS short.

DMA Final project 1 - Making it Real

Blog 2 Artist Research

For the first attempt, I referenced some 3D and game artists. Since the idea is confirmed, I would like to focus more on some architecture designs.

Maya people in terminal classic period

(Temple of Kukulcán)

Clearly they are not "recent digital artists", however, their architecture design gives me a huge inspiration on my "QR Island" idea to become a "QR Pyramid". Since the idea is having a mysterious vibe and it perfectly matches with the ancient civilization.

Woods Bagot (architecture studio)

Since the 3D QR code is made up by complex blocks with even heights, and this attribute can be found in modern architect, so I found this hotel development idea in Saudi Arabia, designed by an architecture studio called Woods Bagot. This work gives me inspiration of having hierarchy of complex blocks with even heights. Also, the combination of modern architecture and natural rocks can enhance the sense of sublime.

MVRDV (architecture studio)

I don't want my design to be purely an ancient architecture but a mixture of ancient and modern design, because the idea of the product is interactive, which is a modern concept. Originally there is a stair sticking on the pyramid of each side, however, I would like to some modern stairs to increase the modern vibe, which also play an role that linking "ancientry" and "modernity" together. This work shows me a modern staircase's main body can be detached from the subject and with free form. Also, they don't need lots of stands to support.

listen as much as i love mako and raleigh's dynamic i personally think of it as more of a qpr and also michael and saru canonically think of each other as family and saru basically calls michael his sister. when saru thinks he's dying he entrusts michael and michael alone to be with him through it:

“Do we have to do this? Is it truly inevitable?”

“I’m sorry. I know hard this is for you, how many people you’ve already lost. I would do it myself, but I’m too weak.”

“After all this time, after everything we’ve been through together, I realize now that you are my family, Saru.”

“I feel the same about you. You are the only one who knows me. You replaced the sister I had on Kaminar. Siranna. That knife was hers. I left her without so much as a good-bye. You promise me -  no matter how frightening and painful it maybe - promise me you will mend your relationship with Spock.
