Art and the Environment
“Part of addressing a complex politics of ecology and its aesthetic reach means critically rethinking current or provincialist terms of debate by foregrounding overlooked actors, actants, voices and constituencies. In examining social, political and environmental conditions of crisis, envisaging a post-humanist method of inquiry towards the long-term development of sustainable solutions does call for the rejection of binaries or polarisations. Yet it must also be pursued on a cross-disciplinary basis that aims to animate serious proposals that reject and rethink the ‘restricted economy’.”

BE DAMMED (ongoing Project)
In Indigenous cosmogonies of the Americas, all bodies of waters are connected. Rivers are the veins of the planet, their waters associate communities and ecosystems. Be Dammed investigates the effects that large dams have on natural and social landscapes in several American bio-regions. More than 250 large hydroelectric dams are projected or under construction by transnational corporations in Latin America, signifying the transition of public bodies of water into privatized resources. At the same time, the U.S. is the leading country in dam removal, allowing for the restoration of river ecosystems. In Be Dammed, aerial and satellite imagery, geo-choreographies and audio-visual essays intersect social bodies with bodies of water, exploring public space in rural contexts, and conjuring water as a common good.

Lygia Clark
Baba Antropofágica
In collective works like «Túnel» or «Objetos relacionais,» Lygia Clark initiates psychic processes of exchange which transform the dichotomy of subject and object. In doing so, she follows the transgressive logic of «devouring» and «vomiting». The reception of «Baba antropofágica» («Cannibalistic Saliva») also relies on the documentary film «O mundo de Lygia Clark,» filmed by Eduardo Clark in 1973. But escaping this phantasmal staging of the body seems almost impossible: kneeling over a guinea-pig-like subject lying on the floor, a figure pulls from its mouth—like spiders do from their bodies—a spittle-drenched thread and spins a cocoon around the reclining figure. The precarious division of subject and object is eliminated by this thread-like weaving, with the gestural webbing of the passive subject completing the inversion of the internal and external. In the retrospective, these interactive aspects might have been what was most convincing. In contrast to Performance and Body Art, Lygia Clark understood herself to be an initiator of processes, and was most successful in this respect when her haptic attempts on orderings were targeted at inter-subjective body politics.
(1997: 152-153)

she termed relational objects (everyday objects that the artist employed in an attempt used to stimulate the senses)
“Toward the end of her career, Clark coined another term, phantasmagoria of the body, which was also a way of intertwining art and psychotherapy. It’s a practice that deals with the notion of a life within an art object, something that scholars usually dismiss. It was through the discovery of her concept of the “phantasm” that Clark was able to surpass a mere anticipation of sensorial knowledge to enter the realm of actual fulfillment of that knowledge—a concept that differs from the contemporary notion of performance, and moves into the unconscious.
(...)
In Anthropophagic Slobber (1973) the ritualistic aspect of the proposition is crystal clear: a person lies on the floor, arms against her body. She doesn’t wear much. She rests, her eyes are closed. A group of people approach, they come, they kneel. They form a circle around the lying person and put colored threads inside their mouths—the threads are expelled from their lips wet, soaked with slobber. Saliva is stimulation. These people are then like spiders, depositing the webs on the person’s body. The spider can see the prone body—but only her “phantasm” can see the spider. It is within this kind of exercise that the object, a simple thread, becomes, for Clark, a powerful tool for the marriage between body and unconscious knowledge through art. When the person allows herself to become part of this embracing web, the slobber accepts her, she accepts herself.“ (from: https://artwriting.sva.edu/journal/post/lygia-clark-at-moma)

WIR MACHEN DAS – and this is who we are
WIR MACHEN DAS (WE ARE DOING IT) arose from a network of 100 women from arts and culture, science, journalism and public life under the association wearedoingit e.V. in 2015.
As a non-profit organisation we use various projects in the fields of arts and public relations to advocate for support, participation and the recognition of diversity in the context of refugee movements and migration.
Our Aims
We address all people not as “the needy”, but with regard to their expertise, because diverse perspectives enrich local discourses. Together we aim to improve career prospects, educational offers and networking opportunities. We foster individual resources and create opportunities for exchange. In this way, we bolster the involvement of people from zones of war and conflict. Together we are shaping a future in which immigration and diversity are seen as an opportunity and asset.
Plastic T-shirt bag invented to save the chopping of trees for paper bags in 1960
The inventor of the plastic bag Sten Gustaf Thulin. He intended the opposite with his invention:
American and European patent applications relating to the production of plastic shopping bags can be found dating back to the early 1950s, but these refer to composite constructions with handles fixed to the bag in a secondary manufacturing process. The modern lightweight shopping bag is the invention of Swedish engineer Sten Gustaf Thulin.[1] In the early 1960s, Thulin developed a method of forming a simple one-piece bag by folding, welding and die-cutting a flat tube of plastic for the packaging company Celloplast of Norrköping, Sweden. Thulin's design produced a simple, strong bag with a high load-carrying capacity, and was patented worldwide by Celloplast in 1965. As his son Raoul said later, Sten believed that durable plastic bags will be not single-used but long-term used and could replace paper bags which need chopping of trees.[7][8]

Nzambi Matee
A nairobi-based 29-year-old entrepreneur and inventor — is the founder of a startup that recycles plastic waste into bricks that are stronger than concrete. called gjenge makers ltd, her company initiated following the development of a prototype machine that turns discarded plastic into paving stones. one day at the factory means 1,500 churned plastic pavers, prized not just for the quality, but for how affordable they are.
‘it is absurd that we still have this problem of providing decent shelter – a basic human need,’ said matee. ‘plastic is a material that is misused and misunderstood. the potential is enormous, but its after life can be disastrous.’
before creating gjenge makers ltd, nzambi matee majored in material science and worked as an engineer in kenya’s oil industry. in 2017 she quit her job to start creating and testing pavers, which are a combination of plastic and sand. she gets the waste material for free from packaging factories and also buys it from other recyclers. through experimentation, she understood which plastics bind better together and then created the machinery that would allow her to mass produce them.
‘we must rethink how we manufacture industrial products and deal with them at the end of their useful life,’ said soraya smaoun, who specializes in industrial production techniques with UNEP. ‘nzambi matee’s innovation in the construction sector highlights the economic and environmental opportunities when we move from a linear economy, where products, once used, are discarded, to a circular one, where products and materials continue in the system for as long as possible.’
Pierre Huyghe - Zoodram
Zoodrams: large aquariums with marine ecosystems, that embody the logic of the exhibition, in particular Zoodram 4 (2011) in which a crab turned a resin mask of the Sleeping Muse (1910) by Constantin Brancusi into its living habitat.
Zoodram 5 (After Sleeping Muse by Constantin Brancusi), 2011, a glass tank that provided living quarters for different species of crabs that cannibalize each other, a none-too-subtle metaphor for human rapaciousness.
The tank is a repeated object in many of Huyghe’s works. They featured prominently in his retrospective, and a massive fish tank currently sits on the roof of the Metropolitan Museum as part of the Roof Garden Commission. Huyghe’s tanks are filled with strange, beautiful creatures. On the roof of the Met are tadpole shrimp, while inside the tanks in the retrospective were hermit crabs. The tank is an enclosed space. The viewer stands outside it, watching the creatures engage in their everyday activities. The tank is a lens through which we can better see Huyghe’s overall project. In an interview with Emily Nathan for Art in America, Huyghe stated:
The work is not “displayed” under a narrative — that’s a system I avoid. I could not imagine a chronological order, either. As you say, most of what I have done is construct situations that happen within a given body. Every one is a constellation network of process, all sorts of heterogenous and anachronistic things come together or are associated within a constructed situation, and so it is difficult to present them in a site where they were not originally, or to organize them in a linear way.
Pierre Huyghe says that life is the core interest of his practice: “I’m interested in how to quantify the different variations of being alive…how to intensify the presence of things.” Many of his performance, film, and installation pieces employ a range of living creatures—insects, plants, animals, and human beings—in order to explore their behavior and interactions. These works become laboratories for articulating complex social phenomena, the precarious distinction between fiction and reality, and contemporary belief systems.
Pawel Althamer
The sculptor Pawel Althamer, who had a cameo in After Nature with a pair of flayed bodies, has brought an entire parade of the undead to Expo 1. He and neighbours from his apartment block in Bródno, Poland, each created a life-sized alter ego, modelled out of scrap metal and technological trash. Like zombies from an apocalyptic nightmare, the figures in “Bródno People” march sightlessly through a huge gallery, an ungainly procession of solid ghosts that recalls Rodin’s “Burghers of Calais”.

Revival Field
1991-ongoing plants, industrial fencing on a hazardous waste landfill an ongoing project in conjunction with Dr. Rufus Chaney, senior research agronomist, USDA
Revival Field began as a conceptual artwork with the intent to sculpt a site’s ecology. 1993 marked a successful conclusion to the first phase of this collaborative effort. The initial experiment, located at Pig’s Eye Landfill, a State Superfund site in St. Paul, Minnesota, was a replicated field test using special hyperaccumulator plants to extract heavy metals from contaminated soil. Scientific analysis of biomass samples from this field confirmed the potential of “Green Remediation” as an on-site, low-tech alternative to current costly and unsatisfactory remediation methods. Despite soil conditions adverse to metal uptake, a variety of Thlaspi, the test plant with the highest capacity for hyperaccumulation, was found to have significant concentration of cadmium in its leaves and stems.

Thomas Hirschhorn
Jumbo Spoons and Big Cake
At first glance, Thomas Hirschhorn’s monumental installation Jumbo Spoons and Big Cake resembles a kind of documentation centre turned upside down, filled with papers, chained books, piled archives and photographs. In the centre, the jarring presence of a monumental cake surrounded by twelve giant spoons creates a metaphor on the state of the world today, and on the end of many 20th century utopias. Reminiscent of popular ‘souvenir spoon’ trinkets, the spoons portray individuals or entities that the artist associates with failed utopias: Mies van der Rohe, Rosa Luxemburg, Malevitch, Nietzsche, Venice, China, the Moon, firearms, fashion, the Nazis’ 1937 exhibition of “degenerate art,” Swiss Rolex watches, and the Chicago Bulls basketball team.
Tejal Shah
Between the Waves
Landfill Dance by Tejal Shah FIG. 5 is a video installation that involves several professional dancers dressed as quasi-mythical creatures, striking poses and moving in synchronicity in an unnamed mass landfill site in India. The work portrays ‘neither a neoliberal optimism nor paralysing despair’, but instead draws on the ‘potential of the bodies to coexist with this environment’, as is part of Boetzkes’s broader thesis that artists have demonstrated the need for an ‘intensive “working through” of the site’ and waste (pp.121–25). How, if at all, the work deals with people that notoriously have little choice but to rummage and work through mass garbage sites on a daily basis is unattended to.
Tejal Shah: Landfill Dance is part of the larger five-channel video installation, Between the Waves. Each channel also functions as a stand-alone piece. I first worked on channel 1, which is a longer film that forms the backbone of the installation.
“I am a big fan of contemporary and folk dance, with immense reverence for the medium. I have been eagerly awaiting an appropriate opportunity to collaborate with dancers. Finally, I decided to work with contemporary dance in this project to create seemingly nonsensical movements within the setting of a landfill to think about the futility of our gestures of sense making and recuperation in the Anthropocene (with a sense of humour of course!).” (https://huismarseille.nl/interview-tejal-shah/)

Olafur Eliasson
“Riverbed was for the Louisiana Museum, whose architecture is from a period where the seamlessness between inside and outside was introduced, as were a number of modern illusions of openness,” he says by way of preface. “Within this very contemplative museum, but also this very well functioning exhibition machine, I wanted something that would almost have the volume and scale to destabilise the museum a bit, pressure it. So I wanted it to look almost like a rock garden, but also to have a sense of a mudslide. Brutal, deathlike; it’s almost an alien landscape, and really it’s there to introduce destabilising qualities that one experiences outside – you’re walking on a slope, keeping your balance, recomposing your walking to fit the landscape – but you don’t really notice, you take them for granted. So I don’t only move the landscape in but also the microconflicts: suddenly we don’t take them for granted. This is what is interesting: the experience, the activities you do, also become exhibited. It’s as much about the interaction as about the actual plateau, the platform, on which people are walking.”

Famous Muses & Groupies in Rock Music Pt. 22
MUSE: Jenny Boyd (born Helen Mary Boyd)
Jenny was born on November 8th, 1947 in Guildford, England to Colin and Diana Boyd. When Jenny was barely a year old, her parents moved her along with her siblings Pattie, Paula and Colin Jr. to Nairobi, Kenya while Colin Sr. was discharged from the Royal Air Force. The family moved back to England in 1953, with Colin and Diana divorcing and Diana remarrying. The Boyd siblings were educated at English boarding schools and convents throughout their childhoods. Jenny evidently would meet her first husband, rock drummer Mick Fleetwood while at school when she was 15 and he 16 in 1963. In both of his memoirs, Mick claimed that the first time he ever saw Jenny, he knew they were going to be married. The two wouldn’t go on their first date until 1965, and that same year Jenny followed in Pattie’s footsteps and began her own modeling career. Like Pattie, Jenny posed everywhere from catwalks, to magazine covers, to advertisements and screen appearances—including starring in the psychedelic short film Reflections on Love (1966). At the end of summer in 1966, after a year of sometimes going out with Mick, Jenny got inspired to move to San Francisco, CA from experimenting with weed and acid while socializing. Mick apparently did not react to this well, especially since Jenny also revealed to him that she had been with another boy while visiting Rome, Italy.
While staying on the west coast, Jenny switched from modeling to retail on the famous Haight-Ashbury street. A year later in 1967, Jenny moved back to London and worked at the Apple Boutique owned by Pattie’s husband, George Harrison’s band, the Beatles. At this time, Jenny casually dated psychedelic-folk artist Donovan from 1967-68. The two accompanied the Beatles and their wives on the meditation retreat in Rishikesh, India during the summer of 1968. Donovan also penned the pop song ‘Jennifer Juniper’ for Jenny, and she appeared in the promo video for his single ‘Wear Your Love Like Heaven.’ In his 2005 autobiography, The Hurdy Gurdy Man, Donovan says that there was nothing serious between them and they were just friends. But he also says that about legit every woman he was involved with before marrying Linda Lawrence, sooo…
By the end of ’68, Jenny returned to modeling and got back together with Mick. By this time he was drumming for the band Fleetwood Mac, named after him and bassist John McVie by founding guitarist Peter Green. In June 1970, Mick and Jenny married at Kiln House in Hampshire, England, three months before the FM album ‘Kiln House’ was released. On her personal blog and on Instagram, Jenny revealed in 2017 that she helped John’s wife and bandmate, Christine McVie, write the lyrics to the track ‘Jewel-eyed Judy.’ But the band’s manager put Mick’s name instead as the co-songwriter on the album sleeve because Jenny was ‘just Mick’s girl’ (wtf). Mick and Jenny became parents in 1971 when their first daughter Amelia Rose was born, and again in 1973 with daughter Lucy. Things came to a bumpy halt in mid-’73 when the couple began snorting cocaine, Mick’s rep with groupies grew and Jenny had an affair with FM guitarist Bob Weston. The affair caused Bob to get kicked out of the band and blacklisted in the UK music scene by Mick, much to Bob’s bitterness (bruh, what were you expecting). In 1974, Jenny and the kids moved with Mick to Los Angeles after FM bandmate Bob Welch convinced the band to crossover to the states. In 1976, Mick and Jenny separated for a few months, only to move back in together a year later. But then Mick and FM frontwoman Stevie Nicks started secretly seeing each other, and Jenny and Mick officially filed for divorce in 1978.
After ending her time with the Mac drummer, Jenny, Amy Rose and Lucy moved back to England. Soon Jenny met another drummer, Ian Wallace of prog-rock band King Crimson, and would marry him from 1984 to 1991. Since then, she went back to school at UCLA to get a degree in psychology, married her current husband David Levitt in 1997, and has written two books: Musicians in Tune (1992) and It’s Not Only Rock & Roll (2013).

How Should We Evaluate Lockdowns? Disentangling Effectiveness, Context, and Politics

How Should We Evaluate Lockdowns? Disentangling Effectiveness, Context, and Politics
With thanks to Kalipso Chalkidou for valuable feedback How should we evaluate measures taken in response to COVID-19? An early precautionary stance was to act first against an immediate threat, and later work out the evidence-base. Even now, as the UK government considers the range of options for tackling the ongoing outbreak, its Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (better known as SAGE) published a summary of the effectiveness and harms of different non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), and concluded that “The evidence base into the effectiveness and harms of these interventions is generally weak. However, the urgency of the situation is such that we cannot wait for better quality evidence before making decisions.” However, many different NPIs—actions apart from taking medicines—have now been tried in a range of global settings, and thus we have the evidential means to begin evaluating them. In this blog we discuss some recent evidence from Africa, and we present some thoughts on how lockdowns can be evaluated, using some of the Bradford Hill “criteria.” While our examples are from Africa, we believe this blog is relevant to ongoing debates globally.
What works?
In the early stages of the pandemic, there was significant pressure and urgency to respond, and across the globe we witnessed the widespread adoption of stringent lockdown measures. At the time, decisionmakers had to operate amidst a dearth of evidence while models projected the worst in terms of COVID-19 cases and fatalities, with dire implications for eclipsing health systems’ capacity. Now, several months into the response, we are better equipped to assess the effectiveness and necessity of lockdowns, and to bring evidence to bear in determining the most appropriate package of interventions for different contexts in ongoing efforts to combat COVID-19. This includes assessing both the benefits and the harms of lockdowns (for different durations and levels of stringency) as well as their effectiveness compared to other options. Questions about lockdowns will continue as many countries see increasing case counts and new spikes. Even after the first generation vaccines are approved for use, there are concerns about global availability and uptake in the face of vaccine hesitancy. With vaccines only forming part of the response strategy, we must critically evaluate other public health tools at our disposal. Below we present some emerging evidence on lockdowns across different settings and considerations that should inform future adoption of lockdown measures.
Context matters
Similar regulations mean different things from both an epidemiological and a human perspective in different places, and for different people in the same place. Thus, a lockdown requiring people to stay at home might reduce social contact in a suburb, but might actually increase social contact in a crowded informal settlement (as appears to have been the case in Accra). This means that intensity scales measuring the stringency of a government’s policy response to COVID–like the one developed by the University of Oxford–cannot be used as a proxy for degree of reduction in social contact, which is the key variable in most models, including the influential Imperial College London model. Preregulation levels of social contact may vary widely too, as may compliance with regulations. All of this means that a physical distancing recommendation in Stockholm might yield a greater reduction in social contact than a hard lockdown in the Kibera neighborhood of Nairobi, meaning the effectiveness of a regulatory intervention cannot be established independently of the local context. Context also matters for the indirect health effects of lockdown. Wealthier nations and wealthier people are better able to withstand the economic shock of lockdown. In sub-Saharan Africa, the informal sector accounts for about two-thirds of total employment, according to some estimates. GDPs in the region are among the lowest in the world, and governments may not be any more able to protect citizens from the ill-effects of loss of livelihood than are individuals themselves. Malnutrition, disruption to treatment programs for other diseases such as HIV and TB, the long-term health consequences of disrupted education, and outbreaks of other diseases are probable consequences of lockdown in many parts of the developing world.
Recent evidence from Africa and the Bradford Hill “criteria”
Given that lockdown carries a more serious health risk in poorer regions and for poorer people in those regions, the evidence for its effectiveness in those contexts is especially important for decision-makers. Two recent papers look for correlations between regulatory regime and COVID-19 epidemic trends in Africa. In the first, the authors (including some of us) fail to identify any changes in the trajectory of the epidemic in South Africa that might be attributed to “lockdown,” (see Figure 1 below). The earliest measures introduced on 17th March by the South African government included restrictions on large gatherings, on restaurants and bars, and similarly “mild” measures. South Africa moved into a very restrictive lockdown from 27th March, coinciding with a decline in the trajectory of new cases. Deaths follow the same pattern some time later. This can be nothing more than coincidence since it takes some days for regulatory measures to have an effect on detected cases. South Africa remained in “Level 5” lockdown, as it became known, until the end of April, and “Level 4”—which was almost as hard—until the end of May. Cases, followed by deaths, continued on a constant, although exponential, trajectory during this period, and remained on the same trajectory until the latter part of July, when the curve flattened out. (South Africa carried out widespread random testing.) There was no regulatory change in July, and when regulations were further eased to “Level 2” in August, there was no change in the—by then, falling—rate of infection, either.
Figure 1. COVID-19 caseload in South Africa, overlaying the dates of the different “levels” of the lockdown
One cannot simply “read off” causality from a line graph. However, we can look for features that might indicate causality, such as the nine “criteria” (strength, consistency, specificity, temporality, biological gradient, plausibility, coherence, experiment, and analogy) famously proposed by Austin Bradford Hill many years ago to provide epidemiological evidence of a causal relationship between a presumed cause and an observed effect. Bradford Hill’s “criteria” are still widely used by epidemiologists today (note that Bradford Hill was clear that these are not criteria in the sense of sine qua nons for causality, but rather intended them as viewpoints or perspectives from which to consider whether an observed association might be causal). One of these is biological gradient (or dose-response relationship), meaning the greater the exposure (the “dose”) to the presumed cause, the greater the response. However, there appears not to be a dose-response relationship in South Africa between lockdown level and reduction of transmission. This corroborates the point made earlier, that scales measuring policy stringency may not be a proxy for any epidemiologically significant variable. Another Bradford Hill criterion for establishing a causal relationship is strength (or effect size). South Africa’s lockdown measures in mid-March correlated with a reduction in the rate of transmission, but there was no correlation between further regulatory changes and other changes in the epidemic’s trajectory. Similarly, a second recent study examines the nature of regulatory regimes in nine African countries, and looks for patterns in the trajectory of the epidemic in these countries. There is no single definition of “lockdown,” the authors argue, with different countries enacting regimes that differed in important details. The authors offer a helpful two-by-two matrix to characterize lockdowns two-dimensionally (an improvement on one-dimensional intensity scales). They also point out that, in overcrowded contexts, regulations with the effect of keeping people at home could plausibly have led to an increase in infection rates. They find a strong relationship between testing and cases, predictably, but observe “no obvious pattern” in the different lockdown measures imposed in different countries and the shape of the respective national epidemics, even though they reason that there must have been some effect of measures designed to reduce social contact.
Lack of plausibility– when lockdown measures achieve the opposite of what they intended
Another of Bradford Hill’s criteria for assessing causality is plausibility, i.e. whether a plausible biological mechanism exists for the proposed causal link. Bradford Hill recommended taking extra care here, since biological plausibility is relative to current biological knowledge, which might tail behind the causal knowledge derived from observations. The mechanism by which lockdown regulations are supposed to work is generally clear, although details are sometimes not. Following the blanket ban on outdoor exercise during lockdown Level 5, for example, the South African government decided to permit exercise only between 6am and 9am. This time restriction meant that all citizens wishing to exercise did so at roughly the same time, increasing the degree of social contact due to exercise. (Similar remarks might be made about the closing of pubs in the UK at 10pm, reducing what might otherwise be a staggering effect.) Restricting certain activities is intended to lead to a reduction in the number of contacts between new individuals over short time periods (e.g., daily contacts). However, this mechanism is not plausible where people live in crowded conditions, share communal ablutions, and queue for social grants and food. Thus, the biological plausibility of strict lockdowns having a significant causal effect on the COVID-19 pandemic in such conditions is limited, and these conditions are widespread in the regions covered by both the studies we have described. Perhaps one important lesson from both these papers is that the distinction between means and ends must be kept in mind when devising public health interventions. Severe restrictions on freedom of movement and activity have been characterized as “suppression” measures, but “suppression” has also been characterized as the reduction of social contact by a certain percentage (e.g., 75 percent). Yet in some situations, restricting movement outside the home for nonessential purposes may not yield reduction of social contact. Suppression is an end, lockdown a means, and lockdown is only a “suppression strategy” to the extent that it is appropriate to the end. In many parts of the world, lockdown is not a suppression strategy at all, because it does not reduce social contact to the level necessary to bring the reproduction number below 1; indeed, in some overcrowded contexts, it may even increase social contact.
The politicization of lockdowns
Debates about lockdown in the US and UK are becoming more political, not less. But as some of us argued previously, the way that opinions on lockdown have lined up along the interests of the liberal-conservative axis of American politics or the left-right dimensions of Britain politics, is largely irrelevant to the interests of the poorest in the world. This may be part of the WHO’s reasoning in recently stating: “We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus.” Regulations that might look the same from a legal or political perspective might have very different epidemiological significance. Their assessment cannot, therefore, be in terms of political allegiance. It has to be empirically based, and localized to a region. Politicization can also cause confusion between quite distinct public health measures. The term “lockdown” may even be confused for any exercise of state power to compel in the name of preventing COVID-19, even where what is compelled could be part of an alternative strategy to lockdown: contact tracing or mask-wearing. It is easy for all public health measures to become equated because they are compatible and imposed by a single authority, even when they are separable and justified by different rationales. Contact tracing formed the basis of some nations’ responses, rather than “lockdown,” and should be seen as a potential alternative strategy on a different dimension altogether from any “intensity scale” of lockdown. Political polarization makes it harder to see such alternatives. We hope to see more assessment of the different strategies countries have used to combat COVID-19 based on the large quantity of data now available. Managing COVID-19 should no longer be a stab in the dark.

The Chase Files Daily Newscap 9/12/2019
Good Morning #realdreamchasers. Here is your daily news cap for Monday, December 9th, 2019. There is a lot to read and digest so take your time. Remember you can read full articles via Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS), Barbados Today (BT), or by purchasing a Daily Nation Newspaper (DN).
PM MOTTLEY EYES OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS IN AFRICA AND THE PACIFIC – Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is looking to Africa and the Pacific for new growth prospects for artists and designers from Barbados and the rest of the region. She made her intentions known on Saturday night while attending a fashion show in Nairobi, Kenya where young fashion designers got the opportunity to show off their creations for delegates from the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of nations. Asked by the organisers to speak to the audience, Mottley said: “For a very long time we have seen the benefits of cooperation with the ACP and UE for our designers and creatives, and indeed, Caribbean Export has been doing an excellent job in creating that platform for our artists and designers. “We hope that we can now create the logistical framework that will allow the trading to take place, so that we don’t only marvel at the beauty of the designs, but that we can ensure that the economics that will support the sale of the designs can make the businesses sustainable. “This is part and parcel of what this expression and the showing of the work of the designers is about, but we need now to popularise it and ensure that access to working capital is always there for our artists.” Mottley explained further: “The fact is that most of our artists don’t have the collateral to go and access funding from the bank in order to be able to expand production. So we have to have showings such as this to ensure that we have other investors come on board, but also create the markets… “Our own people from Barbados are excited about it and I know we are also excited to see what else we can take from Africa into the Caribbean because there is a strong sense of African awareness — African style, African music, African food, African designs. “The truth is, we are now only coming home to each other and discovering each other in ways that matter and we need to be able to give our people choice. I hope that the ACP partnership can create that platform.” (BT)
UWP REJECTS RESULTS AND SKERRIT GOVT –Dominicans are today fearful of more political strife and possible violence following the opposition United Workers’ Party’s (UWP) rejection of last Friday’s general election results and condemnation of the observer missions’ findings that the poll was free and fair. In a near 16-minute Facebook broadcast on Saturday night, UWP leader Lennox Linton said that “unfortunately, the people of Dominica had their hopes set aside, dashed, by yet another stolen election”. He called on his countrymen to “rise up and stand up to ensure that those who have done wrong to Dominica” pay for their deeds. “We need now to demand fresh elections because as far as we are concerned, this illegitimate result renders the election null and void, and it renders the government null and void. We will not recognise this government because it is as a result of a stolen election. That’s where we stand,” said Linton. (DN)
QEH EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OUTLINES PLANS TO TRANSFORM HOSPITAL – Executive Chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland has outlined a ten-point plan to transform the institution into a more patient-focused and customer friendly facility. As she delivered remarks at the QEH’s 2019 RESPECT Awards at Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre last night, Bynoe-Sutherland also served notice that staff would benefit from the coming improvements. The QEH executive said the hospital was indebted to Barbadians for the Health Levy, which has yielded BDS$40, 196, 938 to date and advised her team that to whom much was given much was expected. Bynoe-Sutherland reported that efforts to improve the hospital’s finances had started and it had also managed to clear its debt. “We strengthened financial management, reporting and internal auditing, completed a comprehensive stock count and engaged auditors to 2021 so external audits outstanding since 2011 can be brought up-to-date to this financial year. We have cleared the outstanding debt to our local and overseas supplies through the BERT programme,” she said. Bynoe-Sutherland further noted that the QEH was focused on completing the costing of the hospital services and improving financial management by placing greater emphasis on value for money and evidence-based treatment. She added that the hospital would be launching a major philanthropy push in association with We Gathering 2020. Detailing aspects of her plan, Bynoe-Sutherland disclosed that an organization-wide campaign on delivering good service would be rolled out through the use of ongoing patient surveys, giving snap awards for exceptional service, and expanding employee recognition and reward systems to highlight great service along with holding poor providers accountable if they fail to meet the high standards. The QEH boss signalled that the hospital would be implementing new bed management policies, standards and protocols since the shortage of beds remains a major concern at the state-owned institution. Additionally, new posts, including bed managers and case managers who would focus on ensuring patients benefit from diagnostics tests and procedures in an efficient manner would also be introduced. Bynoe-Sutherland also outlined that the institution’s waiting list for public patients would be addressed through partnerships with the private sector. Turning her attention to staff, the QEH executive chairman noted that despite challenging times, which necessitated some cuts, the hospital had not laid off permanent staff, but rather increased temporary contracts from one year to two years to give those workers more security of tenure. “We know it has been hard, as we have had to reduce or eliminate overtime in some areas and decreased the number of relief staff. But we do this all so we can maintain our permanent staff and we thank everyone for their commitment and sacrifices, “ she said. She stressed that providing growth opportunities for staff members was also in the works, assuring that particular attention would be paid to boosting morale and ensuring their safety and security. “Our staff safety is important to us. We are going to strengthen our security to keep staff safe and prevent the loss of equipment and supplies. We will also be launching a zero-tolerance to staff abuse campaign as the amount of aggression, vilification and violence faced by staff is intolerable. (BT)
GARBAGE ISSUES BEHIND RAT SIGHTING – Purity Bakeries says a rodent problem it is experiencing is nothing new, and is blaming it on the sporadic collection of garbage. This is according to the company in response to two videos making the rounds on social media showing a rat between baking pans in Lower Collymore Rock, St Michael facility. “Purity Bakeries, like every other food business, has experienced challenges in relation to the rodent population around our facility. The national issues related to garbage collection have compounded these challenges,” said Purity in a statement on its Facebook page yesterday afternoon after the DAILY NATION had earlier contacted general manager Ralph Holder for a comment. (DN)
PLASTIC BAN PUSHED BACK –The ban on petroleum-based, single-use plastic bags has been put back. It will now take effect from April 1, 2020 – three months after the originally proposed date. Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Kirk Humphrey, speaking at Ocean Fisheries’ 30th Anniversary Awards Dinner Saturday night, said the move would give manufacturers the time they had requested to produce an organic-based bag (DN)
CHRIST CHURCH MAN FOUND HANGING - Police are investigating the unnatural death of Shamar Stevenson Rojoe Bascombe, 25, of Hannay’s Valley ,Windsor, Christ Church. Acting public relations officer Inspector Rodney Inniss said at around 9:40 a.m., some people came to District B police station and reported the death. Bascombe was discovered hanging from a rafter in a bedroom by his dad. (DN)
MOTORCYCLIST SUFFERS HEAD INJURIES IN COLLISION WITH CAR – A motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries in a collision at the intersection of Drax Hall Road and Greens Road, St George around 3:20 p.m. Police have identified the motorcyclist as Rommell Stowe, 32, of Baird Village, St George. He was involved in an accident with Lester Brathwaite, 46 of #6 Parton Apartments, Newbury, St George. Parton was driving a white Mercedez Benz. Police said Stowe was transported by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical attention. He was said to be in a serious but stable condition when he departed the scene. (BT)
SIZZLING SIMMONS – Veteran opener Lendl Simmons stroked his first half-century in nearly four years while Nicholas Pooran made an instant impact in his first match back from a ball-tampering ban, as West Indies brushed aside powerhouses India by eight wickets to level the three-match series 1-1 yesterday. Needing a victory to keep the Twenty20 International series alive, West Indies comfortably chased down 171 at the Greenfield International Stadium to break a seven-game losing streak to the Indians and turn Wednesday’s third game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai into the series decider. The 34-year-old Simmons, playing only his third T20 International in two and a half years, emerged from a stuttering start to top-score with an unbeaten 67 off 45 deliveries while Pooran arrived late to lash an imperious unbeaten 38 from just 18 balls. (DN)
ST. CATHERINE DIG DEEP FOR CHAMPIONSHIP – CRANE RESORT St Catherine, with their last pair at the crease, stubbornly defended the last eight overs in a tension-filled final half hour against first-time Cupid Cavaliers to become the Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) Second Division champions yesterday. St. Catherine’s captain Derwin Thompson rolled back the years while using all his experience and batting expertise to make a defiant 25 not out off 75 balls in 82 minutes to ensure an exciting draw at Queen’s Park in the three-day final. Thompson, a former stand out Police player, got dogged support from Chief Town Planner George Browne, who played out 16 deliveries while gathering two runs in a tense half-hour as by virtue of gaining a 67-run first innings lead, St Catherine recaptured the title they first won at the same venue in their maiden season of BCA cricket in 1972. (DN)
FREDERICK SMITH HOSTING ANTI-VIOLENCE RALLY – The Frederick Smith Secondary School will host a National Rally Against Violence on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The rally will be preceded by a march, which will start at 10 a.m. and will conclude at Queen’s Park via Lower Broad Street, Broad Street, High Street, Roebuck Street, and Crumpton Street. HIV
HIV is spherical in shape and approximately 120 nanometers (nm) in diameter (or 60 times smaller than a red blood cell). It is composed of two copies of single-stranded convoluted RNA surrounded by a conical capsid and lipid membrane that prevents antibodies from binding to it. HIV also consists of glycoprotein (gp120 and gp41) spikes and is a highly mutating virus. Its genome changes by as much as 1% each year, significantly faster than "killer" cytotoxic T-Cells (CD8+) can adapt. It is transmitted through bodily fluids.
Per CD4 Cell Tests (Fact Sheet Number 124, AIDS InfoNet, 21 March 2009), when "HIV infects humans" it infects "helper" T-4 (CD4) cells that are critical in resisting infections. HIV does so by merging its genetic code with that of T-4 (CD4) cells. HIV's spikes stick to the surface of T-4 (CD4) cells enabling its viral envelope to fuse with their membrane. Once fused, HIV pastes its contents into the DNA of T-4 (CD4) cells with the enzyme, integrase, so that each time T-4 (CD4) cells replicate, they produce additional "copies of HIV," reducing the count of healthy T-4 (CD4) cells. Then as healthy T-4 (CD4) cells, which come in millions of families geared towards specific pathogens are eliminated, the body is rendered defenseless against the pathogens "they were designed" to fight until ultimately, the immune system is overwhelmed.
When the T-4 (CD4) cell count drops below 200 cells per cubic mm of blood (or a percentage of? 14% of total lymphocytes; normal counts range from 500-1600 or 30%-60% of lymphocytes), indicative of serious immune system damage, the victim is deemed to have AIDS ("the end point of an infection that is continuous, progressive and pathogenic per Richard Hunt, MD (Human Immunodeficiency Virus And AIDS Statistics, Virology - Chapter 7, Microbiology and Immunology On-line (University of South Carolina School of Medicine, 23 February 2010)) and is vulnerable to a multitude of opportunistic infections. Examples are PCP, a fungal infection that is a major killer of HIV-positive persons, Kaposi's sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection that attacks the brain and other parts of the body and cryptococcosis, a fungal infection that attacks the brain and spinal cord (both usually occur when the T-4 (CD4) cell count drops below 100), and mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), a bacterial infection that can be localized to a specific organ (usually the bone marrow, intestines, liver, or lungs) or widespread, in which case it is referred to as disseminated mycobacterium avium complex (DMAC) (which often occurs when the T-4 (CD4) cell count drops below 50).
Natural Immunity:
Since the onset of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in 1981 cases of people with a natural immunity to HIV have been documented. Although these persons, called long-term non-progressors (LTNPs) are infected with HIV, they never develop AIDS. When LTNPs are infected, some suffer an initial drop in their T-4 (CD4) cell count. However, when their T-4 (CD4) cell count reaches around 500 it stabilizes and never drops again preventing the onset of AIDS. Furthermore, while CD8+ T-Cells (even in large numbers) are ineffective against HIV-infected T-4 (CD4) cells in progressors (persons without a natural immunity to HIV), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) reported in a December 4, 2008 press release that "CD8+ T-Cells taken from LTNPs [can efficiently] kill HIV-infected cells in less than [an] hour" in which "a protein, perforin (produced only in negligible amounts in progressors), manufactured by their CD8+ T-Cells punches holes in the infected cells" enabling a second protein, "granzyme B" to penetrate and kill them.
Per Genetic HIV Resistance Deciphered (Med-Tech, 7 January 2005) the roots of this immunity dates back a thousand years due to "a pair of mutated genes - one in each chromosome - that prevent their immune cells from developing [Chemokine (C-C motif) receptor 5 (CCR5) receptors] that let [HIV penetrate]." This mutation likely evolved to provide added protection against smallpox according to Alison Galvani, professor of epidemiology at Yale University. Based on the latest scientific evidence, the mutated CCR5 gene (also called delta 32 because of the absence or deletion of 32 amino acids from its cytokine receptor) located in Th2 cells, developed in Scandinavia and progressed southward to central Asia as the Vikings expanded their influence. Consequently up to 1% of Northern Europeans (with Swedes being in the majority) followed by a similar percentage of Central Asians have this mutation, which if inherited from both parents provides them total immunity while another 10-15% of Northern Europeans and Central Asians having inherited the mutation from one parent exhibit greater resistance in lieu of complete immunity to HIV.
At the same time, even though the CCR5 mutation is absent in Africans, a small also exhibit percentage natural immunity (possibly developed through exposure) to HIV/AIDS - CD8+ T-Cell generation that effectively kills HIV-infected cells and mutated human leukocyte group A (HLA) antigens that coat the surface of their T-4 (CD4) cells to prevent HIV from penetrating based on an intensive study of 25 Nairobi prostitutes who per The Amazing Cases of People with Natural Immunity against HIV (Softpedia, 27 June 2007) have "had sex with hundreds, perhaps thousands of HIV-positive clients" and shown no sign of contracting HIV.
In addition, people with larger numbers of the CCL3L1 gene that produces cytokines (proteins that "gum" up CCR5 receptors) to prevent HIV from entering their T-4 (CD4) cells, per Genetic HIV Resistance Deciphered have greater resistance to HIV in comparison to others within their ethnic group that possess lesser quantities of the CCL3L1 gene and get "sick as much as 2.6 times faster."
At the same time, up to 75% of newborn babies also possess natural immunity (for reasons still not known) when exposed to HIV-positive blood. Although born with HIV antibodies - thus HIV-positive, newborns "usually lose HIV antibodies acquired from their HIV-positive mothers within 12-16 - maximum 18 months," in which their "spontaneous loss of [HIV] antibodies" without medical intervention is called seroreversion. "However, with the exception of very few instances, these infants are not HIV-infected" conclusive proof of a natural immunity to HIV.[1] Furthermore, when pregnant HIV-positive women are administered highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), which lowers the viral concentration of HIV in their blood, an astonishing 97% of their newborns lose their HIV antibodies through seroreversion to become HIV-free per the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) as posted under Surveillance Monitoring for ART Toxicities Study in HIV-Uninfected Children Born to HIV-Infected Mothers (SMARTT) (Clinical Trials.gov, 29 March 2008). However, at this time, it is not known if these newborns retain their natural immunity throughout their lives.

No Pink Wooly Caps for Me
As I looked at the photos of women’s marches in Washington DC, San Francisco and all over the world on January 21, I was struck by one thing. Whiteness. The marchers were predominantly white - even in places like Nairobi. Not only were they white, they looked like they were upper middle class – able to afford the finest warm clothes and designer outfits, down jackets, sporting iPhones to record themselves. When interviewed they appeared to be educated and articulate. All of this raised alarm bells in me. Even before the march I had reservations. Why, I wondered, did the organizers change the date from the day of the inauguration to the day after the inauguration? Why did they quickly back off from their acknowledged protest against Trump to a vague “support for rights”? Why was there suddenly no mention of Trump anywhere in their materials and postings – only a vague reference to “the new government? In fact, I read an interview with one of the organizers who specifically said, “This is not an anti-Trump march”. In reality, it seemed to be exactly that. So why did they not want to admit that?
What is their goal?
What is their demand? Do they sincerely think Donald Trump and his followers are going to watch them and say – “wow – this is serious – I guess we had better change our ways”? That’s a little like a meme I saw recently on Facebook that said “Your political FB status updates totally changed my opinions. Said no one. Ever.” Their march was indecisive – all over the place. All of the issues they were raising are part of what is called “identity politics”.
Is it a feel-good day so they can go home and congratulate themselves on having “made history”? Then they can go back to their comfortable lives and do nothing more to organize or fight in any systematic way except to call their congresspersons – whose phone lines are down and can’t take more calls and who have systematically proven they pay no attention to these calls. Knitting pink caps, making signs and going out in the streets with others just like them gave them a feeling of catharsis.
Since the march I’ve watched many of the same people rush to the airports to defend immigrants being banned from the U.S. by Trump’s anti-Muslim edict. Does this mean that if immigrants are allowed in everything ok?
Whose march was this?
This was not a “women’s march”. This was an “upper middle-class women’s march”. This was a Democratic Party directed march. These were women – and men – who were upset that their candidate didn’t win. They wanted Hillary in the White House no matter what – partly because she is a woman. They paid no attention to her war mongering, Wall Street loving, elitist past, capitalist actions. And, rather than blaming her or the Democratic Party, they raged – and are still raging – at anyone who didn’t vote for her. They are all over Facebook pointing the finger at anyone who didn’t vote for Hillary and claiming they are the ones to blame for Trumps’ election. They are particularly raging against the 42% of the population who didn’t vote over - 90 million people - because they saw no point in it. Voter turnout was at the lowest point in two decades. Because they understand that, not matter who they vote for, their lives are not going to change for the better. The upper middle class has no investment or interest in actually talking to these folks to find out why they didn’t vote – and then working towards helping them.
And where was the middle and upper middle class while all of this was happening? Nowhere to be found. The middle class was not even aware that it was shrinking to the lower middle and working classes, and all the while the upper middle class was growing. Now the upper middle class is a whopping 9% of the population. So it’s not accurate to talk about the 1%, because it’s really the top 10%. And none of the concerns that the working class and the poor have been fighting for are concerns of the 10%.
I have to ask – where were these women throughout the 8 years of war during the Obama administration. What exactly did Obama do for women? Where were they on all the marches so many of us were on against police violence against blacks, illegal wars for control of oil, outrageous student debt, low wages, poor working conditions, lack of benefits, Wall Street, Goldman Sachs? They were nowhere to be found. Or they might be found at Starbucks, the gym, having brunch. It doesn’t matter. Obama was charming, articulate, smooth and tall and now is being deified.
Not everyone participating in the march was a Clinton zombie. The Democratic Party has more or lesser control based on the city in which the march was held. But without making a clear distinction of their issues on the signs they were carrying, these marchers are being used by them.
Who supported the march?
Let’s look at a list of the people who spoke at or participated in the Women’s March:
Gloria Steinem
Michael Moore
John Kerry – and his dog
Van Jones – a total sell-out
Kamala Harris - Debbie Wasserman Schultz grinning next to her
Madonna
Cher
Billy Joel
Lady Gaga
Jennifer Lopez
All of these people are strong, vocal supporters of Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party. Hillary, herself, tweeted her support. Michael Moore fought hard against the Greens to ensure we had no hope of having a third party in this country. He did the same thing to Ralph Nader when he ran as a Green 8 years ago. Gloria Steinem told women they must vote for Hillary because it’s time for a woman to be in the White House. Most are celebrities – whose single claim to fame is that they are famous. And they are rich - very, very rich. Where have they been on the ground fighting for the rights of the working class and poor? They may be very good at what they do – acting, singing – but what bestows on them the wisdom to lead us in our voting decisions? These people should not be our role models. They are the upper 9% supporting the ruling 1%.
Who funded the march?
These are some of the primary funders:
George Soros – a billionaire and long-standing supporter of the Democratic Party who was one of the initial donors to Moveon.org
org – formed in 1998 to oppose the impeachment of Bill Clinton and has spent millions supporting the Democratic Party
org – the Rockefellers gave billions to their campaign
Planned Parenthood – supported by the Democratic Party
Sierra Club – supported by the Democratic Party and members of the 1%
Amnesty International – supported by the Democratic party and partially funded by George Soros
It’s important to understand that, while we may support the above organizations, we need to know where their funding comes from. Where there is funding, there is influence. This was clearly a march to support the Democratic Party and see them reinstalled.
The cops are NOT our friends
Seeing the photos posted of women shaking hands with the police, giving them pink pussy hats to wear – and seeing them plop them on their heads for photo-ops – made me sick. Yes, the cops are nice to them – they pose no threat. They are “good people”. Non-violent, not really rocking the boat. They also are from the upper middle class – the folks whose property is protected by the police – the very class the police are paid to protect. They are not paid to protect the middle, lower middle and working classes. The police state came about in the 19th century to protect the capitalists from the workers who were striking and demanding fair pay and treatment. And they are still protecting the capitalists. It was disgusting to see these upper middle class whites talking about how wonderful the police were, and posting thanks to them on FB. Other protestors who were not part of this group were attacked and arrested. Most of the protest marches I’ve been on we’ve watched the cops in their riot gear and helmets watching us.
A friend of mine who was going to the Women’s March told me she was worried there would be “some of those anarchists who want to cause trouble”. OK – I get it – it’s only a good march if everybody is orderly, peaceful and exactly like you. Sometimes the only way to get attention is to stop business as usual by breaking things. The police presence, in itself, IS violence. It’s a threat – but not to the upper middle class.
Qualification
Before I get accused of being a Trump supporter, I want to make clear that I think he is a megalomaniac, idiot of a bully but a very dangerous bully. And he is not alone. The real brains behind the throne is Steve Bannon, who is a much more dangerous threat because he actually reads books (mostly about war) and is capable of crafting a long-term plan to push through the strategies of the far right and neo-nationalism.
Why not name the system?
All of these issues raised during the march and airport protests are important but, they didn’t start with Trump. They all existed during previous administrations – Democratic or Republican. The difference now seems to be that there is no hiding those attacks – they are out in the open. The difference also is that the front man for them is a bellicose, obnoxious misogynist with a complete lack of charm or intellect. These very same issues did not bring people out on the streets while they continued to go unaddressed by the Obama regime.
Where were all the identity politics people during the Obama administration’s failure to secure a minimum wage above poverty level, build low cost housing or deal with the worst police force in the entire industrial capitalist world? Under Obama’s reign the U.S. continued the illegal wars begun under Bush, pushed for the Dakota Access Pipeline, did close to nothing to punish the banks and Wall Street or demand a cap on emissions to slow global warming.
Whether its the neo-nationalist new-money faction of Trump-Bannon or it’s the old-money Clinton, Bush, Koch Brothers, Kissinger faction, we know that the capitalists give all of them their marching orders. The primary goal of both parties is to protect capitalism and undermine any attempts to regulate, let alone change, the economic system that is driving the majority of us into the ground.
Making demands is for those who accept their subservience
It would not be fair for me to only comment on the women’s part of the march because their were other groups there as well. The problem with all these “demands” is that they are demands. There is no promise to take power. The implication of demands is that there is someone in power that is in a position of granting or refusing the demands. It accepts the capitalist rulers and complains they are not fair and just rulers. Demands are the plea to make ones in power be better leaders.
I’ll march for a socialist transition program
Bernie Sanders influenced 12 million people and used the word “socialism” in his speeches. Most of his followers did not cringe under the bed and say “McCarthy will come after us.” Neither did they seem to worry that “the masses are not ready for socialism”. The Green party had a golden opportunity to throw down the gauntlet to Sanders and say to his followers “hey folks, he’s not a socialist, we’re the real thing.” Instead they offer him their nomination if he would join them. Socialist Alternative seems to have stopped using the word socialism in its rallying cries and has dissolved their identity into an “Anti-Trump” movement. Many of the organizers of all these current marches are not liberals but socialists. They don’t have the nerve to tell ethnic and religious minorities that “we are socialists and we will help you as part of our socialist transition program”. Neither do they have the nerve to reach out to the working class people who voted for Trump because he offered them jobs. Most of all, this cringing left does not use its collective imagination and provide a clear down-to-earth vision of socialism for all poor, working class and middle class people to see and craft a transition program. Whether you like Trotsky or not, he was on the right track. We need a socialist transition program publicly presented at any future public encounters.
So, no, I won’t be marching with a pink, wooly cap. I’ve been through with New Left single-issue identity politics for many years. Why would I want to march with them? I will be marching with a broom, a shovel and a hammer when a socialist organization steps up with a socialist transition program.

Abstract
African areas have documented significant advancement in leaders, administration and development structures in the course of report-colonial era; this is definitely obviously identified in this location whatever the pressures and constraints seen into the rendering and engagements of girls as seen in some spots. These opposition people both equally allow the operation a cause to stay in put, go forward and satisfy the created plans. The favourable transforms discovered are rewarding with the however determination of tough willed women that every bit as proponents for girls protection under the law and participation in social, politics, educational and spiritual areas in expectation of significantly better lifestyle benchmarks.
Introduction
I believe that the superior small percentage of Africans would admire and agree to the belief that ladies have ordinarily played out a key job inside growth and development of our societies, single substantial location the place where we would fully grasp noticeable benefits is capital and reference organization, in a situation the spot where you give out the same amount of dollars towards guy and a lady with the same circumstance but with very little formal appealing norms to follow along with, very little should you discover that the girl extravagantly consume her express any time you would notice with the mankind, a whole lot would distributed around the desperate and common parts that is certainly accounted with a sense of burden. This will be a specific indication that women are great directors but the entire point will not entirely fulcrum in his or her gender but character at the same time considering that we certainly have spotted a serious handful who mutually mess up and grab an opposite course only to end in desolation, into a it will likely be ego centric. Consider these people with superior structures and guidelines for enactment and imagine way more incredible outcome.
“Unless you are able to let me know the fact that the whole world is perfect, your small business is amazing, your online community is perfect and your loved ones is ideal. Don`t inform you are not attracted to power” Top past the limitations by Nancy J http://termpaperswriter.org/essay-writing-service/. Adler (2011)
Traditional Exposition
In retrospect, I would highlight to occasions when the colonialists ended up being specific to Africa, no explorers ended up feminist and on the list of targets that they had you would infrequently neglect their awareness on exclusive gets. A great deal commenced with exploration then relocated to deal and civilization which sooner or later inspired to look for self-reliance of numerous claims. No matter each one of these tries, African areas yet would lag guiding in their own advancement maneuvers in case that they will do not feature wives involvement. Progressive transitions stumbled on spotlight at a threshold of Affirmative Move about thirty years of blog post colonial governance when there exists development of females liberties activities, the need for constitution forum that has adult females hobbies inclusively.
Prof Maria Nzomo of Nairobi University or college (Institution of Diplomacy and Foreign scientific tests) In her study give good results noticed the same in her doc dated 0ctober 13th 2014.
Each one of fails to arrived while not some malice, many cases have picked out along the decent sexual scandals for several elements of strength abuse appearing, along with this kind of scenarios I pin the blame on both the personalities required for defiling their self-esteem and theme their personality using a refuse motion. It is not totally the interest rate in the person but many men as well make a contribution. But in times precisely where affordable sex is found with the best positions because of the amazing competency it is in place, what will be accusation and interdictions for?
• Homes have been very successful resulting from control of a good mannered a lot of women,
• Firms similarly information wonderful end result positive effects with the command of terrific ladies that labors tirelessly in order to keep the goodwill,
• Diverse a lot of women rights agencies/movements have significant encouraging improvements as well as have fruitfully recognized their ambitions while under direction of females administrators, despite the embedded socio-social valuations the place women of all ages are asked to remain inactive right at home without the need of participating in any making decisions.
I mean your life is now more valued at experiencing the presence of ladies and their share are remarkably a necessity to have the a lot better community.
Summary
It really is for sure on time with the world to recommend ladies to consider control placements that do not always have to have actual physical force but school and ideological. An identical signifies to at the same time particular and elective positions where exactly solutions are participating with all round performance score unit card in contrast to responsibility strategies. I assure if you feel the most suitable girl and give all of them with that ranking, believe me you that you simply certainly will be delighted. And whenever democracy is absolutely not illusive, give these most women a chance to enhance way of life just for you and me. Significantly better structures are essential which will enhance the young lady children upgrading and some women interpersonal, handling and expert engagements and the these should begin with insurance coverage formulation which will take the interests of women at the very top goal include. Civic responsibility of ladies is sure to enjoy an essential position and so have to in addition have aspect to consider.
