Maria: There’s Dr. Beverly, now. Ekant: Dr. Beverly? Benjamin: Linnie’s OB/GYN, who helped her give birth to Andreas. Ekant: Ah.

Dr. Morgan Beverly: You guys can come on in.

Dr. Beverly: Hello, everyone. I’m Dr. Morgan Beverly, the head of the maternity ward. Before we go over the sonogram procedure, does anyone have any questions?

Benjamin: Does the sonogram calculate the child’s due date, aside from the gender and such? Dr. Beverly: Good question. There is quite a lot of evidence to suggest that when an ultrasound scan in the first trimester is used for the estimate instead of calculating from the last monthly period, the number of apparently “post-term” births (those which occur 15 days or more after the estimated date) is reduced. This suggests that in general ultrasound dating is more accurate in predicting the birth date than counting from the last monthly period, but it is still only an estimate and may not always be accurate. Benjamin: Ah. Dr. Beverly: All right. Now I’m gonna go over what the ultrasound scan does: An ultrasound scan is a medical test that uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the inside of your body. It’s also known as sonography. The technology is similar to that used by sonar and radar, which help the military detect planes and ships. An ultrasound allows your doctor to see problems with organs, vessels, and tissues without needing to make an incision. Unlike other imaging techniques, ultrasound uses no radiation. For this reason, it’s the preferred method for viewing a developing fetus during pregnancy. 

Susanna: So, does the ultrasound determine my baby’s gender? Dr. Beverly: Of course, Michelle! First trimester sonographic prenatal sex determination can be done from 11 weeks’ gestation using the direction of the genital tubercle and the “sagittal sign.” The downward direction of the tubercle is considered a female while the upward direction a male. Ekant: So, Michelle. Are you ready to see what our baby is? Susanna: I’m a bit nervous, but yeah. Dr. Beverly: All right, I’m gonna have you lay back on the examination table. I’ll apply gel on your belly and press this probe against it. 

*A few minutes later* Ekant: How do you feel? Susanna: Right now, super nervous and, OOH-that’s cold!

*The room erupts in slight laughter* Dr. Beverly: It’s okay, Michelle. Just try to stay still, okay. Susanna: Yeah... okay.

Dr. Beverly: Your child’s vitals are stable, heartbeat is stable, and it’s developing normally. Susanna: Is my baby gonna be a boy or girl, Doc? Ekant: What are you hoping for? Susanna: I’ve always had my heart set on a girl. Dr. Beverly: Well, you have cause for celebration. It IS a girl.

Susanna: Did you hear that, love? A little girl. Ekant: I can’t wait to meet our baby girl, bhalabasa.

Benjamin: That’s wonderful news. A little girl. Maria: She’ll be so loved by all of us. Andreas will be so protective of her.

A few hours later, 1314 Santa Del Mar St., Oasis Springs, New Nagara - 7:16pm

*Merrick and Linnie, who just came back from the public pool, have gathered around after they get word of Susanna’s sonogram results*

Alinia: So, Dr. Beverly said it was a little girl? Susanna: Yes! I’m so excited, I can’t wait to meet her. Ekant’s already planning for the gender reveal.

Maria: I tell you what, when you have a baby in the Chandra family, they go all out to celebrate... well, Ashwani and his other children anyways.

Benjamin: Heh heh heh! Madhuri is probably fuming over the baby. Pfft... she can deal with it. Right now, we’ve got a baby girl to celebrate coming into the world.  *As everyone is gushing about the new baby, Merrick sees a not-so-friendly face enter the gate*

Merrick: Uh, Dad? Code Red.

Benjamin: Huh? Oh great. YOU, again.

Augustus: Congratulations. You beat my ass one time, little cousin, and you’re instantly the hero. Because of you and Princess Pregnant-Slut, Mary’s filed for a divorce from me. She’s destroyed my computer, and she’s selling the house to you guys. I hope you are proud of the damage you caused, Benjamin.

Benjamin: Don’t be stalking people and their personal lives for your own sick gratification, you sonofabitch. Maria, take everyone inside. Looks like I’ll have to handle this piece of shit once more. Merrick, call the police.

Merrick: Sure thing, Dad. Come on, everyone.

Benjamin: I don’t know how the fuck you’re not in jail right now, but by the end of this brawl, you WILL be.

*Augustus grabs Ben by the throat*

Augustus: Not this time, you little cunt! I have lost too much to let you win again! I’m gonna fucking kill you, you clod!

*Police sirens are blaring; a cop car pulls up*

Officer Coleman Tran: Let him go, and put your hands up where I can see them!

Augustus: *throws Ben to the ground* O-Officer. I’m not the one you want. It’s my cousin, Benjamin. He’s-he’s harboring a missing person... A missing princess of Newcrest, and... Officer Tran: Shut up and put your hands behind your back!

*Officer Tran leads Augustus to the car* Officer Tran: Augustus Raine Jensen, jr, you are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be held against you. You have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford one, one will be provided for you.

Susanna: Hey! Everthing okay, Ben? Maria: Maybe we should leave him be.

Maria (cont’d): When he gets like this, he stays like this for a couple of days. Susanna: At this rate, I’d say that’s a good call.

*Ben looks on sternly, as Augustus is taken away*

Merrick: Honestly... truly... holy shit! Alinia: Seriously, who just... does this shit?

Maria: That bastardo of your cousin once removed. Stupid prick’s been asking for this crap for the last five years. Tuesday night, he decided he wanted to see her in person.  Alinia: Please tell me you guys didn’t cave in and take her. Susanna: Ben had to wake me up for it. Augustus grabbed my face then proceeded to ask how far along in my pregnancy I was. Merrick: *shudders*

Maria: He brought us into the living room and that’s when we encountered a ton of papers and these pictures. Augustus said he’d collected them since Susanna first showed up.

Maria (cont’d): Augustus threatened us with sending those pictures to all media outlets if we didn’t bring her. Merrick: I hope whatever Augustus got from Dad; it wasn’t peaceable.

Maria: I don’t exactly know what he did, but when he got out the front door, he had a few scratches and a punch mark or two. Makes me think he beat la mierda out of him... *Susanna is no longer actively listening to the conversation, fixated on her missing poster*

Susanna (in thought): So, my family doesn’t know about the threat that woman made to me the night I ran off from Windenburg Palace. *flashbacks*  Woman: *Here’s what you’re gonna do… you’re going to run… far away… from the palace. And, you will never come back.* Susanna: *I promise I won’t talk, even at home…!* Woman [cuts Susanna off]: *You’re not going home, either. If you were smart, you’d stay away from your home. Newcrest doesn’t need… a criminal… for a princess.* Susanna: *What?!* Woman: *If you even think of returning home, I’ll tell the authorities that YOU killed your dear Aunt Calla. Do you understand? Now run… and DO NOT look back!*

*Doorbell rings, snapping Susanna out of her disassociation* *Susanna proceeds to head to the kitchen, while Merrick and Alinia look outside the window for whoever rang the family doorbell*

*Enter Mary Jensen, Augustus’ wife*    Maria: Mary, how are you? Mary: Hi, Maria. It’s been a while. How’s the family? Maria: We’re all fine. Everyone is doing well. The baby is doing nicely. Mary: Oh, yeah! I heard you have a grandbaby now! Congrats! Maria: Thank you, Mary. Please come in.

Mary: So, I understand that my “dear husband” has done some shady things. Is that right? Merrick: That sounds about right, Mary. They’re on the coffee table. Mary: Watcher, give me the strength not to catch a case on Auggie.

Mary: Oh. My. Watcher. How long has Augustus been doing this, Maria? Maria: Five years. When he found out we took Susanna in, he started demanding pictures of her. The one with her fiancé, taken without their knowledge or consent, was taken last year. He acted like he was so proud of those pictures.

Mary: One of these days, he’s gonna be put in jail for this. Merrick: I hope he does go to jail for this, Mary! He stalked someone for five years. Mary: When I take these to the police station, who do you want me to refer to Susanna as? Maria: Here, she’s known as Michelle Abernathy. Refer to her using that name. We’ll keep the age-progression photo and the missing poster. Mary: Of course. Is she around here? Maria: She was in here when you rang the doorbell. Susanna! Alinia: Crap, I hope she hasn’t run off again. Sue?! Merrick: I found her! She’s in the kitchen! Mary: Well, hello, Miss Susanna... Susanna? *Sue doesn’t respond, disassociating again* Mary (cont’d): Susanna? Susanna.

Mary: Can you hear me, Sue?

Susanna: Huh? Oh, hi. You must be Mary. My name is- Mary: I know who you are. You’re Princess Susanna of Newcrest. Susanna: Oh no... Mary: No need to panic, baby girl. Your secret is safe with me. Susanna: Thank you, Mary.  Mary: Why don’t we go sit down? You can tell your side of this incident. Susanna: Sure...

Maria: I certainly hope that whatever happens after you report Augustus, you and Terrance will be okay.

Mary: *sighs* With this new information... I’m gonna be filing for a divorce, and moving back to Northern Staxa, so I can be near Terrance. He’s in college, now, and with his newfound peace away from his father, he’ll still need me. As for Auggie... watcher damn, I hadn’t realized how sick he was. I found some... strange photos and ramblings he wrote on his computer. Scared me so much that I wiped the data on his computer clean and destroyed it. He still doesn’t know... he must have printed all those things out before I did this.

Alinia: Yeah, filing for divorce is the best thing for you and Terrance. From what I understand, Augustus drove him away because of his obsessive behavior. He knows he’s gone too far, but he doesn’t care. Mary: I should have seen the signs and caught him when he started pulling that crap, five years ago.  Merrick: Well, you did now, Mary. And we’re proud of you for it. Mary: As for the house. I’ll be keeping it for one year after, and then it’s going to you guys, should anything happen to this one.  Maria: Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. Our family’s lived here for the last 19 years. Mary: I’m sure y’all will be okay. Now, Susanna... tell me, sweet baby: What are you thinking, what are you feeling about this situation, right now?

Susanna: I’m pissed.

Susanna: *begins to choke up* I’m pissed that Augustus violated my privacy when I was with Ekant. I’m pissed that when he demanded photos from Ben and Maria, he made these threats to out me, when he knows what kind of threat I’m under. I’m pissed that almost five years of hiding was almost destroyed, thanks to him. Mary, that night has caused me more flashbacks of the night I was snatched by that fucking bitch wearing a maid’s outfit, held down, forced to watch my godmother practically being stabbed to death in front of me, and being made to run off or I’d get framed for her murder. Maria and Ben can tell you how destroyed I was when I found out about my godmother’s death, the next morning. That guilt eats me anytime her birthday or my godfather’s birthday comes and goes. I didn’t know what I was doing when Ben and Maria found me in the Windenburg forest, and I’m uncertain as to what to do now.

Mary: By the watcher... you’ve been through a lot. Well, rest assured, Augustus will NOT be messing with you OR Ben and the family again. Susanna: He won’t?

Benjamin [on the phone]: Oh fuck yeah, she’s gonna be so excited that you’re back! 

Benjamin [on the phone; cont’d]: I tell you what, she’s been keeping to herself since you went out on duty. Having a fiancé who left the province kind of took a toll on her, so much so that she gathered me and Maria to watch a royal wedding on TV. *laughs*

Benjamin [on the phone; cont’d]: *laughs* Son, the three of us dressed up for it. It made her feel a lot better by the end... Oh, no they didn’t, Merrick and Linnie took Andreas to meet his Tatik and Papik that day. Yeah, those Gamez-Vardanyans are über overprotective of their kin, even if they share blood with “the destructive Augustus Jensen.” *pffts* So, I can expect you here at 10 am, tomorrow morning? Ah, all right then. See ya tomorrow. *Hangs up*

Benjamin: Welp, looks like it’s time to hit the hey. I just hope this surprise reunion goes as planned. *yawns* All right, now to turn these lights off and hit the sack.

The following morning - 9:53 am

Maria: So, what do the other niños think of Andreas? Alinia: *chuckles* He seems to have made a new friend and when I picked him up yesterday, he was sleeping in Tatik’s arms. Andreas: *cooing* Maria: *chuckles*

Merrick: Hey, Dad... what are you waiting for? Benjamin: Oh! Just an esteemed guest. Maria: And who is this esteemed guest, mi amor? *Knock on the front door* Benjamin: Well, all I can say is that he’s here.

*Ben opens the door to find Ekant in military uniform* Ekant: Sergeant Ekant Chandra, reporting... for Valentine’s Day!

*Everyone clamors around to greet the promoted Ekant, which causes Andreas to start crying, Linnie puts him down to nap in his room*

Benjamin: Good to have you back home, son. Ekant: Thanks, Ben. *As everyone heads to the dining table, questions are being asked all at once* Benjamin: All right, everyone, hold it. One question at a time, I’ll start. *Everyone laughs*

Benjamin: So, Ekant, when did you get promoted? Ekant: Just a couple of weeks ago, actually. Sgt. Madson moved out of the country and Commander Madrigal commended me for going above and beyond the duty when I gathered other enlisted members to help guard the President. Merrick: You guarded the President?! Ekant: Yeah, one of her secret service members was stabbed during a rally so while police and ambulance were being called, we escorted her to the nearest building for her own safety. Alinia: You weren’t hurt, were you? Ekant: I mean, I have no bruises or scabs on me... so, probably not. *Everyone laughs* Ekant: Does Michelle know I’m here? Benjamin: Not yet.

Ekant: Now why didn’t you say anything to her about me coming over?

Benjamin: Don’t you remember what we discussed last night? It’s supposed to be a Valentine’s Day surprise for her. *chuckles* Ekant: Ah, yes. I forgot.

*Everyone lets out one more bout of laughter, before... * Susanna: Hey, what’s going on down there?! Benjamin: Oh! Michelle, we’re just having some good laughs!

Susanna: Whatever fucked up story you’re telling, I wanna listen! Oh, by the way, we still going to the pharmacy to pick up my prenatal vitamin refill, today?  Benjamin: Yep, at 3:00pm! Susanna: Okay, cool! Just wanted to make sure we were still... *gasps*

Ekant: I’m home, Michelle.

Susanna: Ekant?

Ekant: Yes, it’s me. *An overjoyed Susanna runs to kiss Ekant, twirling mid-embrace*

Benjamin: Well, Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone. I’m glad we’re all back together under one roof. 

Susanna: Ditto, Ben. And I’m glad my Sergeant, here, made it back safely from Norvan, D.E. 

Alinia: What do you make of this Valentine’s Day, babe?  Merrick: Well, Babe... As long as everyone is happy, why not be happy with them? Alinia: And that’s my babe. *laughs*

*Susanna is trying to find something good to watch on television... to no avail. So she turns the television off and is about to browse her phone when she hears Linnie wail in pain.*

Alinia: Sue! My water... it... it just broke! *Groans in pain*

Susanna [alarmed]: Okay, okay. Uhh, time your contractions, while I go retrieve everyone!

Three Hours Later - Oasis Springs Medical Center, 7:50pm

Doctor: All right, Mrs. Jensen, you’re doing great.  Alinia: Alinia...is...fine. Mrs. Jensen is my mother-in-law. *wails from sharp pain* Was that enough contractions?! Please tell me THAT WAS ENOUGH CONTRACTIONS!!! Doctor: Yes it was, Alinia. I can see your baby’s head. Get ready to push. *After a few hours, Linnie finally gives birth to the baby, who is letting out his very first cry.*

*After cleaning the baby and putting him in a warm onesie, the doctor brings him back to Linnie and Merrick.* Doctor: Congratulations, Alinia and Merrick. It’s a boy. Merrick: Thanks, Doc. Doctor: What do want to name your baby? Alinia: Andreas Dylan Jensen. Doctor: Okay, we’ll have the paperwork for the birth certificate ready for you in an hour. Merrick: Thank you. Ohh, Linnie... I can’t believe it, our little boy is finally here.

Meanwhile...

*Susanna arrives at the hospital, waking Maria in the process.* Susanna: I get the feeling you two haven’t gone up to see the baby? Maria: Linnie didn’t give birth yet... did she? Susanna: Merrick called me about 20 minutes ago, saying the baby is finally here.

Maria: Go with me up to the hospital room? Susanna: Sure, but what about Ben the Heavy Snoring Beast, over there?

Maria [laughs]: He’ll be fine. I feel bad for the poor nurse that has to wake him up and deal with his sleep-deprived wrath. Susanna: It’ll be worth it when he sees little Andreas.

*Susanna and Ekant head downstairs to find the family discussing their upcoming “Ghost Hunting” trip on Monte Encantado.*

Ekant: What’s going on, down here, Michelle?

Susanna: Oh, they’re planning their ghost hunting trip.

Ekant: “Ghost-hunting trip?”

Susanna: Every year, on the night before Halloween, they climb up Monte Encantado to tell ghost stories and perform a séance in hopes of any ghosts appearing out of the enchanted ponds.

Ekant: Do you go with them on their trips?

Susanna: No. I usually stay behind.  

Benjamin: Hey, Michelle. What do you and Ekant think about joining us on our trip to Encantado, this year?

Susanna: I dunno, Ben. If any spirits follow us home, I’m blaming you. 

Ekant: Perhaps this could be a good time to learn more about this place. 

Ekant: So, what exactly do you do on Monte Encantado this time of the year?

Benjamin: Every year since my wife and I met, we would go to Monte Encantado to tell spooky stories and and do a séance to talk to the dead. We’re both into macabre stuff like death and spirits. 

Susanna: So, what got you into it in the first place?

Benjamin: My older sister was brutally murdered around this time, 30 years ago. And since then, I only coped with it by pretending... or at least thinking I was pretending... to speak to her from the mortal realm. When I met Maria, she could sense that I had some medium abilities. Come to find out, my family has a history of said psychic ability, passed down from my maternal great-great grandmother.

Susanna: Oh wow...

Maria: So when he discovered this, he realized that his sister was still in the mortal realm, and has been telling him to help solve her murder. He didn’t know who killed her, and the authorites decided to try throwing out the case.

Susanna: Well, that’s fucked.

Benjamin: My mother repeatedly got on the chief investigator’s ass after he attempted to throw my sister’s cold case out. This shit got crazy after I found out that he and my mother were classmates in school, and he got suspended after putting gum in my mom’s hair. Since then, he’d had some sort of grudge against her.

Susanna: All that over getting suspended from school?! What a heap-humpin’ shitsucker.

Benjamin: Yeah, seriously. Anyways, soon after the chief investigator was reprimanded for his actions, he and his son mysteriously disappeared one night. They found his body several months later in one of the ponds of Monte Encantado. His son was never found or seen again.

Ekant: Whoa! Why do you want to go there if that happened?

Maria: That’s the same thing I asked him after we learned this tidbit of information. 

Benjamin: For me, it’s a little personal victory after his vindictiveness cost my family and myself quick answers. My sis’ killing would have been solved if he hadn’t been such a dick.

Susanna: We’re sorry, Ben.

Benjamin: No need to console me over something that happened before the four of you were born. If it hadn’t been for Maria, I wouldn’t have been able to accept the fact that Emily’s gone. 

Ekant: Is that why you go up there each year? To pay homage to Emily?

Benjamin: Yes. Watcher knows I still have a burning vow to find out who killed her. 

Merrick: What do you suppose Aunt Emily would think of us, now?

Benjamin: She would absolutely love you guys...

Benjamin: ...Merrick, she would have practically endorsed all of your antics. She was just as much a daredevil as you are.

Alinia: I bet you she would have loved your attempt with climbing those milkcrates.

*Merrick starts laughing*

Merrick: Oh, for her to witness me and Ekant falling on our asses, that day.

Ekant: So, what do you think, Michelle? Perhaps a good climb up a ghost-infested hill is in order?

Susanna: Well... I don’t know...

Ekant: I bet you we could all meet the daredevil Emily Jensen... and possibly watch Merrick pull some more stupid stunts.

Susanna: And possibly go all barbarian on Ben? I’m sure she saw that.

Benjamin: *laughs* “I am barbarian, hear me roar.”

Susanna: *also laughs* All right, you son of a bitch. I’m in.

Ekant: I knew I could convince you.

Ma: Well, it’s not all bad. At least we ordered takeout from there.

S: Yeah, that’s true.

Merrick: So, your guys’ anniversary is coming up. What have you got planned?

Ma: Well, we’re not quite sure. We were... kind of hoping you guys could plan a party for us.

Alinia: You want us to handle the anniversary festivities?

B: Well, yes. We’re tired of going to that stupid Italian restaurant, and we figured... why not try something new?

S: Well... If you’d like. As a princess who’s been to a lot of state receptions and what have you, I think we’ll be able to come up with something.

Ma: Thank you, guys! 

B: By the way, when’s our anniversary again?

Ma: Benjamin Merrick Jensen!

B: Just kidding.

*Alinia is trying to stifle laughter while Susanna is about to break from a straight face, and Merrick is tempted to laugh.*

S: Oh, just seeing your parents kiss?

Susanna: I didn’t think I’d knock Ben out, though. I was just trying to get him off of me!

Merrick: It’s all right, Sue. Mom won’t be too mad at you.

S: I hope you’re right.

Maria: Jesus Christ, Benjamin. Well, at least you’re not hurt too bad. I better go talk to the others.

Ma: [internally] I guess this is his reward for drinking too much, tonight.

Ma: How’re you doing, Sue?

S: Honestly? I’m still freaked out over this.

S: Maria, I didn’t mean to knock him out! I was just trying to get him off of me-

Ma: I know. I understand. You should have yelled out for me, though, instead of panicking and waiting for me to find him.

S: I’m sorry.

Mr: What? Mom, Sue has Generalized Anxiety Disorder, her judgement is clouded in times like this. Of course she’s gonna panic.

Ma: [internally] I should have rephrased that.

A: Where do we go from here, Maria?

Ma: I’ll have a talk with Ben in the morning about what happened. Right now, we should all try to get some sleep and not think about this too much.

S: Maria-?

Ma: Look, my husband can be a real dumbass sometimes. It’s rare that he drinks alcohol, but when he does... it can get out of hand. I’m sorry for his behavior tonight.

S: No, Maria... *begins to cry* I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have assaulted him.

Ma: Sue, it’s okay, it’s okay. I promise you he’ll apologize for his actions. 

S: That’s true, he always has.

Mr: Jesus Fucking Christ, Dad. I gotta cut you off when you drink too much beer.

A: Maria, I don’t think we should have left him alone, tonight.

Ma: I’m inclined to agree. He was so stressed after conference week at the school, so I got him a 12-pack of Blue Ribbon to calm his nerves. 

Mr: And what did we learn by doing that, Mom?

Ma: [chuckles] Duly noted, Merrick. Now, you two go relax.

Mr: Good night, Mom. Good night, Sue.

*A group of five are sitting in front of a television, playing a fighting video game.*

Benjamin [Laughing]: Oookay, Michelle! Don't get all crazy!

Michelle: Crazy? I thought the point of Mortal Kombat was to kill your opponent.

*The wife cheers*

Michelle: Ahh, and Maria kicked your ass. How does that feel, Ben?

B [Internally]: Fuck my life! [Externally] Fuck, fuckity, fuck, fuck! Michelle, why would you distract me?!

*Maria, Michelle, and the other couple burst out in laughter, Benjamin following along*

B: Okay, Merrick, your turn.

*Benjamin passes the controller to his son, Merrick.*

*Susanna has come down with a cold over the New Year weekend, and has decided to rest. An old friend of Merrick’s is supposed to be paying a surprise visit today.*

Alinia: So, doc said Andreas is supposed to be getting his first vaccines in two weeks. I’m just a little nervous. Andreas: *babbles* Alinia: This lil’ breadstick is a screamer, and he’ll cause the doc to go deaf.

Maria: *laughs* Merrick was the same as a Niños Bebes. Benjamin: For real. My mother-in-law was spending the night with us for our first Thanksgiving as a family, back in ‘96, and when she heard his scream, she called him “El medio pinta que grito.” It was a banshee scream even Sindel would be jealous of. Alinia: *laughs* Like father like son, I suppose.

*Merrick opens the door speaking to a friend*

Merrick: Surprise, mofos! Guess who just showed up! Maria: Jose-Luis! ¡Mucho tiempo sin verte! Jose-Luis: ¡Hola, Mamá María!

Benjamin: Good to see you again, Bud. How’s Alorica treating you? Jose-Luis: It was all right, but I decided to come back home. Dad just passed so Mamá needed help keeping the house up. Alinia: Ohh, I’m sorry to hear that, Luis. Jose-Luis: Nah, it’s no stress. Dad wouldn’t have wanted us to cry for him, just to move on with life as if he were still alive.  *A frenzy of questions is loudly asked to Jose-Luis, by everyone, all at once, so loud that Sue, who has a pounding headache, comes downstairs to ask them to be quiet.*

Benjamin: Michelle, what are you doing out of bed? Susanna: To ask you guys to please shut the fuck up and stop being so loud. I have a headache, as hard-pounding as a drum-set. Maria: Oh, sorry about that, dear.

*An upset Susanna is isolating herself in the living room, staring aimlessly, trying not to think about the pregnancy test, when Alinia walks in.*

Alinia: Hey, Sue! When the furniture movers get here today to get the table, you wanna....?  *Alinia sees that Sue is despondent, sinking off the couch, and rushes to her side.*

Alinia: Susanna, what’s wrong? Susanna: Linnie, I’m... I’m... Alinia: Depressed, again? Let me go get Ben and Aji- Susanna: No. I just found out that I’m...pregnant. Alinia: What? Sue, that’s amazing news!

Susanna: No, it’s not. If I tell Ekant, he’s just gonna run away. Plus, my ex-brother-in-law, Efren, is back in Oasis Springs. If he finds out I’m here, I’m gonna get sent back to Newcrest and face criminal charges- Alinia: Calm down. You don’t know that, Sue, don’t overthink this.  Susanna:...

So, the Bebisdusch...

... has been decorated for! Yes, Melaura is having a boy! Another prince in Eric and Katrina’s brood of grandchildren. I decided to equal out the number of grand children. 4 granddaughters, and with another boy on the way, that makes 4 grandsons! So, yes the decorations are blue! :D

I wanted to make sure the decor didn’t clip into any flooring of the palace, but also to be sure that guests would be able to pass through to get inside the palace. Welp, it did, thankfully!

And with that, I have an important announcement! The story will be time-skipped, by only two months after this event. By that point, Mel and Alinia will both be in their third trimester. And, stay tuned, because Raymond, Angela, Maria-Dolores, and Ekant will continue to appear!

*Susanna has decided to sneak away and take some time to herself without her disguise while the family is watching a movie, but that isn’t what’s worrying them. Maria just so happens to peer over the door.*

Maria: Honey... Benjamin: What is it, love?

*Maria gestures to Susanna waking to the front door.*

Benjamin: Susanna, where are you going? Susanna: Does it matter, right now? *Susanna’s response surprises Ben, as he and Maria go to see what’s wrong*

Maria: Sue, we’re worried about you. Susanna: Don’t be. I’m fine. Benjamin: No, Sue. You’re NOT fine. The last few days, we’ve been hoping fervently that you’d be okay. Why don’t you sit down with us and tell us what’s on your mind?

Susanna: Do you mind? I’m trying to get out for a little goddamn while!

*Merrick and Alinia go up to see what’s happening.* Susanna: I’m just tired of life, right now. I need to disappear, right now. Merrick: Sue, please don’t say that. Susanna: Why? I’m tired of the nightmares, I’m sick of isolating myself. I’ll be back later. Benjamin: How much later? Susanna: Doesn’t matter, right now.

13 Hours later...

*Susanna has spent the night at a Shinto Shrine that accommodates overnight guests. She gets up early in the morning to pray to the Kamisama.* 

Susanna [internally]: All I want is for these nightmares to stop cursing me. I wanna be with Mama and Papa again, but I’m scared to. I just want to know why my godmother had to die. I just want to have that peace of mind that I did before everything happened. Kamisama, if you can guide me to where I won’t have these nightmares again, I’ll forever be in your debt.

Oasis Springs Library - 7:49 am

*Susanna is browsing around for a book she read in Junior High School - The Outsiders, when she find that someone else enjoys the same book.* Susanna: Hmm... 694-1B: “Outsiders, The” by Hinton, S.E. Ekant: An emotional but uplifting story... Susanna:...between two social classes in Tulsa. Ekant: The Greasers... Susanna:... and the Socs. I wonder if anyone has written fanfiction about what happened after those events. Maybe Ponyboy and Cherry Valance got together, and Darry changed his attitude towards Pony and Sodapop. Ekant: *snickering* “Sodapop.”

Susanna: *giggling* I know. When my class and I read the book, my first thought was “What kind of parents name their kid ‘Sodapop’? Were they high?” Darry had the most normal name. Ekant: *chucking* I agree. What’s your name? Susanna: Michelle Abernathy. You?

Ekant: My name is Ekant Chandra. Nice to meet you, Michelle. Susanna: You too, Ekant. Ekant: Are you hungry?  Susanna: Sure. There’s a Bar and Grill downtown. Ekant: Okay! 

Ekant: So, Michelle. How long have you lived in Oasis Springs? Susanna: Almost five years. I live with my cousin, Ben, and his family. Ekant: Where are you originally from? Susanna: James City, Caspian. I moved in with Ben after I left my mom’s place.  Ekant: Was she not good to you? Susanna: Oh no. I just wanted to find better education here.

Susanna: What say you? Where are you from? Ekant: I’m from Saeada, a small town in Al-Simahara, just 50 miles south of the capital, Al-Salam.

Ekant: You know, Michelle. You’re very easy to talk to. Susanna: So are you, Ekant. We have a lot in common.

*Maria has tried all week to talk to Susanna, who’s been isolating herself after the horrifying nightmare she experienced. So far, Susanna’s not been talking to anyone, preferring to sleep, fiddle with her mobile phone, or watch TV. Maria thinks Ben knows what’s going on.*

Maria: I... I just... Benjamin: I know. We’ve all been trying to get her to come out of her room all week. 

Benjamin: Depression is a bitch, and it seems to have hit Sue pretty hard this time. She poured her heart out to me last night, and was thinking of ending herself. Maria: What did you do? Benjamin: I sat her down and told her, “Susanna, that’s not a solution.” even though she insisted that her family didn’t need her and whoever dragged her away that night might turn them against her.

Maria: We should get her a therapist. Benjamin: I’ve been looking at the Mental Wellness Center website. They may be able to help Sue regain control of her senses.

Maria: How have Merrick and Linnie responded to this? Benjamin: They both hate seeing her like this. Linnie’s been knocking on her door all week, and Merrick’s been trying to send her stupid videos to get her spirits up a bit. All to no avail. Maria: Why don’t I give the center a call this week and see if we can sign Sue up as a client? Benjamin: We may as well try. We need our friend back.

*Susanna is experiencing yet another nightmare.*

Susanna: Nngh... no... go... away... no... no...

*Susanna’s eyes fly open*

Susanna: GO AWAY!!

*Everyone hears Susanna screaming, and come rushing to her door*

*Alinia is banging on her door* Alinia: Sue? Sue?! Are you okay?! Merrick: Please, let us in!

Susanna: All right. Come on in!

*Everyone rushes in, and Ben, being the father-figure he is, comforts Susanna as tears pour out of her eyes*

Susanna [weeping]: It happened again, Ben! It happened again... Benjamin: It’s all right, Sue. Let it out. Let it all out.
