The modern Indian woman is liberal, independent, and free to experiment. She loves to express herself in every way possible. In terms of speech, actions and even dressing up. She wants it all. Her head reaching for the skies without letting go of her roots that hold her strong to the ground.

Dressing up has become probably one of the strongest expression for women today. They wear their mind. Experimenting with cuts, drapes, silhouettes forms and different styles comes easy to her.

Indian women are best known for their elegant ways to blend traditional apparel styles and details with western world styles. This has lead to the beautiful fusion of Indian and western fashion known as Indo western clothing. Be it a formal dressing or a party wear, there is nothing that can beat this style mash up. Indian designs creating an alluring ensemble. A beautiful harmony of two different cultures and concepts.

When ethnic meets contemporary, it has a beautiful integration of two diverse worlds.

Gowns become Anarkalis, tunics become Kurtis, capes, jackets, crop tops everything that is originally a Western wear concept has been Indianised. Sometimes it makes for the most attractive style statements. The prints are also undergoing a similar switch. Paisley print or bootas are becoming a regular feature on dresses, shirts and Jackets. The most scintillating part of the beauty around is its colour tone which has been put on like a melody, complementing each other.

Indo western garments have gained acceptance in the Indian mindset and have gradually become the choice of apparel in informal events as well as for work wear. It is suitable for all age groups and in ‘vogue’ amongst the youngsters of India. It is comfortable to wear as compared to the heavy Indian dresses, which is one of the reasons why it is majorly preferred by the working class.

• Traditional kameez coupled with parallel pants or pallazos replacing the baggy salwar.

• Western cuts, shapes and neck line are adopted in kurtas with Indian motifs and designs worn over slim-fit or flared jeans or lycra stretch tights in solid colours.

• Spaghetti strap embellished kurta with trouser pants, Patiala style salwar worn with short shirts.

• Shorter version of kurtas, called kurtis paired with denims.

• Western influence is also visible in bridal wear, sarees draped in the Grecian style and saree blouses becoming westernized in patterns. Lehngas worn with halter tops are a few examples of the same.

• New fusion styles are developed such as short dupattas and pants with slits.

• Amalgamation is also found in accessories , light western touch is added to traditional jewelry , large and dangling earings, beads and fancy bracelets are also in vogue with fusion garments.

• Long flowing skirts, knee or calf length straight, flared or pletted skirts and rap around skirts are made in Indian fabrics like crushed silk and cotton, pure or fixed.

• Sarongs made with embellishments like sequins ,beads and embroidery are all very Indian.

• Motifs like animal prints and floral designs are created using brocade, zari and zardosi, bead work chicken embroidery .

• Dresses, a much worn outfit among western women, the necklines, sleeves, cut and fall of typically western dresses are made in Indian styles .

• Normal tops are such as tie-back halters, tube tops or corsets are made out of cotton and silk, dyed in Indian colours with Indian patterns.

• Denim jackets and pants with Indian style embroidery and other embellishments on them are also in rage .

• Embroidered tunics, beaded necklines on dresses and shirts are present in almost every international brand’s collection, thus reflecting different characteristics from India in their collections.
