My quest to watch a different Arjun Kapoor movie was ruined by Hulu's claim of "subtitles" being entirely false. So instead, there's this feature with Arjun Kapoor in double role - along with a massive starcast that includes Rishi Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Prithviraj, Anupam Kher (kinda, for a second), Sikander Kher, Swara Bhaskar, Amrita Singh, Sumeet Vyas, Rasika Dugal, and on and on.

Bollywood loves, and has always loved, the "split apart family" story arc, and even more so when they can throw in "separated siblings" - bonus points if hlaf the family thinks the other half is dead, and double bonus points if "twins." And this time around, we get it all! Throw in the "father with a second family" leading to "brotherly hate for the step-brother" too!

I don't think there was one certifiably good guy in this movie from start to finish - wait, no. There was one. He, of course, didn't make it to the end of the movie. But beyond that, the only possibly good people would be the sidelined actresses - and not even all of them. For example, Deepti Naval as Rishi's wife pretty much encourages him to do anything he sees fit to keep his power - eventually leading to him killing his son-in-law to frame up his & his son's illegal doings. I hope your desire for his power meant enough to you since you made your daughter a widow because of it. Definitely not in the running for mom of the year, that's for sure. And nor is Amrita Singh, who is manipulating everything she can to get power, including the eventual death of the lead actress. (Come to think of it, a lot of people end up dead.)

None of Jackie, Rishi, or Anupam Kher would be in running for dad of the year. None of Arjun Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Prithviraj, Sikander Kher, or whomever it is playing Amrita's son would be in the running for son of the year. Daughter of the year, maybe Rishi's daughter would be, but then, all we know about her is that she loves her husband - who obviously dies on karva chauth (another thing Bollywood loves doing, especially with honest officers).

Pretty much everyone starts this movie entirely fucked up as a person, excepting maybe 1 of the Arjun Kapoors, and by the end, he's joined that group as well. If the goal of this story was to say 'no one is actually good,' they did a pretty good job of getting that point across.

The story overall isn't bad, actually. Entertaining, keeps moving, and it holds itself fairly well. Drags a bit with the drama, especially at the end, and makes you hate pretty much everyone that shows up on screen, and ultimately tries to paint a bad guy as 'good, because he's not as bad as the supposed good guy,' but you know, that's typical Bollywood stuff. And people stuff, in general I guess - the good/bad dichotomy as it should exist in civilization, especially with some groups, just doesn't exist. Those you think should be good frequently aren't, and those you think are bad ... well, okay. Maybe they're still bad. People suck.

Also, the "I fell in love with you from the moment I saw you, so when it came to sleeping together I didn't stop it" isn't really problematic - until you realize that he hasn't told her yet that he's the twin brother of who she thinks he is. Sure, I think by the end she's fallen for him whereas she was more-or-less hired to be with the other, but still - that sort of deception is probably not ideal. And not fair to her. And then she dies on top of it, because if she'd been alive that would've been one more person for them to save at the end - and everyone was already busy trying to save someone else. ... Of course, she initially sticks with him thru all the violence because she has to, or she'll be forced into being a call girl, so ... Bollywood still doesn't honestly care much for women (or didn't in 2013). In fact, I think Amrita has a similar 'dealer of women'-type role in Kalyug (haven't seen it yet, so not certain, but it's something like that).

A lot of the characters, most of them in fact, are entirely despicable. But on the plus side... wait, no. There is none. They're just not good people, in a not great business, doing not great things, surrounded by a whole slew of other not great people.

Greedy & immoral (redundant?) people suck.

Hamid Ali Khan (27 January 1922 – 21 October 1998), better known by his stage name Ajit, was a prolific Hindi film actor. He acted in over two hundred movies in almost four decades. Ajit is also credited for starring as a lead actor in popular Bollywood movies such as Nastik, Bada Bhai, Milan, Bara-Dari, and later as a second lead in Mughal-e-Azam and Naya Daur.

Ajit, who ran away from home to Mumbai after selling his college books, started his career in films in the 1940s. Luck did not favour him in the initial stages. He began with the 1946 movie Shahe Misra, acting opposite Geeta Bose, and also did films such as Sikander (van mala), Hatimtai (1947), Aap Beeti (Khursheed), Sone Ki Chidiya (Leela Kumari), Dholak (Meena Shori) and Chanda Ki Chandni (Monica Desai) as leading hero, but flopped. He did most of films (15) with Nalini Jaywant. Ajit switched over to play the villain. His first movie as a villain was Suraj, followed by films such as Zanjeer and Yaadon Ki Baaraat. His famous dialogues included the 'Mona darling' bit inYaadon Ki Baraat, 'Lily don't be silly' in Zanjeer and the ones about a 'Lion' in Kallicharan. Ajit's other well known films were Naya Daur, Nastik and Shikari to name only a few. In his four decades of film career, Ajit had acted along with the legendary Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Sohrab Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, I S Johar, Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Shami Kapoor, Dharmendra and many actress, both young and old. In the mid-seventies he had acted in over 57 films, mostly as a villain. His dialogue delivery remains popular even to this date. His colleagues in the film industry —leading personalities who have acted with him, grown seeing him in Mumbai — have expressed deep sorrow over the death of the legendary actor. Writer Javed Akhtar, who scripted Zanjeer, said: "Like Bachchan, Ajit found a new image as villain after Zanjeer. He started a new innings in his career though he was an established hero in the fifties. His villainy started a new trend. Here was a new villain who was soft-spoken yet forceful. We wanted to give a different image to villainy which matched the hero."

Shorey’s film ‘Ek Thi Ladki Movie’ (1949) (theaters hit theaters) and one of his songs ‘Lara Lappa Lara Lappa Lai Rakhda’ (Lara Lappa Lara Lappa Lai Rakhada Song) caused a Kashmiri sensation to Kanyakumari. The Hindi-Punjabi song was sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, and Satish Batra. It was shot on the heroine of the movie, Meena Shourie. This song, which had a glorious past, had a great influence on the success of ‘Ek Thi Girl’. After this film, the career of Meena Shourie, popularly known as ‘Lara Lappa Girl’, headed to the top. However, she had previously acted in a dozen films, including ‘Sikander’, ‘Phir Milenge’, ‘Sahara’, ‘Prithvi Vallabh’ and ‘Far from the city’. In ‘Ek Thi Girl’, the image of her modern woman became more vocal. Her comedy was also highly appreciated in this.

Meena Shorey played a bold character in ‘Ek Thi Girl’ in the early hours of romance and comedy, she was bolder in her personal life. Her real name was Khurshid Jahan (Khurshid Jehan). At the age of sixteen, she married producer and director Zahoor Raja, who separated a few months later. If the second marriage to actor Al Nasir did not last long, she turned to filmmaker Roop. I married Shourie. The relationship was going well and Meena Shourie was also receiving films continuously, but in 1956 she moved to Pakistan. That means The relationship with Shourie also broke down. As an actress, her currency also emerged in Pakistan. There she had two more weddings, which did not last like previous marriages. Her demand in Pakistani films continued to decline with the waning aging. When avenues of income were closed, relatives also turned their backs on them.

Someone has said a lot: “It is not surprising to reach the heights / it is wonderful to stay in the heights.” They failed to demonstrate the miracle of staying with Meena Shourie’s smash hit from ‘Lara Lappa’.
