#Sigma 28mm f/2.8

Don't think I've seen it listed anywhere, but what do you typically shoot with?

My main camera is a Sony α6000 for which I currently have these lenses:

. Sony FE 50mm f/1.8

. Sigma Contemporary 30mm f/1.4 DC DN

. Helios 44M-6 58mm f/2

. Fujian 35mm f/1.7 CCTV

. And two other 35mm f/2.8 and 28mm f/2.8 generic m42 lenses that I can 't remember the brand

For a while I had a Canon Powershot G10, it's dead now, but a bunch of my pictures where taken with it (I still miss that camera)

Last but no least, my phone, a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. For the more "serious" photos I take with it, I use the Lightroom app to be able to shoot raw, than I just edit the DNG files on my computer like any of the other photos.

Color pictures will be rare on this blog, but as an introductory post, this is my baby, Lana. My mom bought her in 1983 (we think) and she lived her first life as a photojournalist before being passed on to me.

While I was in school for filmmaking I didn't have much time for stills photography, but after graduating my digital camera became work-only, and analog is my dedicated hobby. My first self-funded adult vacation was to the Vermont wilderness in 2020 (see above) where I fell in love with waterfall photography, and I imagine that's what most of the pictures I post to this blog will be.

It is a dream of mine to have my own darkroom setup at home someday, but while I'm stuck without access to a darkroom, I send my film to The Darkroom in San Clemente, CA for development, printing, and scanning. They deserve a shoutout for the incredible work they do.

For glass Lana has a Sigma 28mm f/2.8, a Pentax 50mm f/1.4, and a bizarrely unbranded 85-210mm f/4.5. I mostly shoot on Ilford HP5+ but I'll make note of what films I used on the posts.

I've been lusting after a Leica Q2 for a while even though I don't shoot digitally. I honestly don't know what it is about that camera that makes me want it but I WANT IT.

I absolutely positively can't afford it and honestly I don't even know if I'd like shooting with it anyway, since it has that fixed 28mm prime lens and that's really wide. My main lens recently has been my Canon EF 28–105 mm but I tend to use it more in the 50-75mm range rather than super wide, and I don't like using it for street photography because it's not exactly unobtrusive.

I was looking into buying a 28mm prime but even the Canon f/2.8 starts at about £120 used, and I just don't have that.

BUT

I had a realisation.

A few months ago I picked up a Canon AE-1 Program for an absolute steal. It unfortunately doesn't work - the shutter doesn't fire and it can't wind on, a very common problem that can be fixed with a service. Even more unfortunate is the fact that I can't afford to service it. But it did come with a few lenses that looked pretty nice, and I wanted to try them out. The AE-1 uses the FD mount rather than the EF mount on my 500N, so I picked up a converter.

It turns out that vintage FD lenses are pretty fucking cheap. I'm currently bidding on a Sigma 28mm f/2.8 and it's looking like I'll get it for under £20. It's also not the smallest lens in the world, but it's much less obnoxiously sized than my 28-105mm and having a prime will force me to get comfortable with that focal length. And then one of two things will happen: I'll find I love it, and I can start saving to buy a Leica in like...5 years. Or I'll find that actually I really hate it, and then the desire to get the Q2 will magically dissipate.

I do wish I could find a slightly faster lens, but f/2.8 is still pretty quick (and probably more than fast enough for my purposes). But if anyone knows any good vintage 28mm lenses that can be had cheap (i.e. less than £50ish) and that use a mount for which converters to EF mounts exist (and that's EF, not EF-S), please do let me know!

Mudcracks [Explored] by skypointer2000 In May 2022, I spent several nights in Death Valley National Park. During the day, I talked to the rangers and scouted for possible shooting locations. The rangers told me that the mudcracks had not formed nicely thus spring, but when I found this area, I decided that it was nevertheless worth a visit at night. I like the resulting image, because of the huge contrast between the pale, barren foreground and the colorful splendor of the Milky Way core section. A Series of Photos That Would Have Loved A Lens Hood

On my way home from a hiking vacation in 2020 I took the scenic route, where I found a cluster of covered bridges. I decided to test the burning tool on a new program for the blown out corners and I'm happy with the results.

In order: Williamsville, Dummerston, Slate, West Swanzey, and the last 3 are the Thompson.

超広角ズームレンズどうする？

D780欲しい！から玉突き的に、今使ってるカメラ用品どうする？の流れがきてしまっています(^^; 三脚などほとんどのものは、買い替えを思いとどまれそうなんですが、超広角ズームレンズに関しては買い換えようかと。

今使っているのはTokinaのAT-X 16~28mm F2.8PRO FXです。 2014年の5月から、その広い画角を生かして大車輪の活躍をしてくれているのですが、不満もまぁあって、それがこの年始に東京行ったときに爆発(大袈裟)してしまいました(汗) 中でも大きかったのが、軽々しくフレア、ゴースト出過ぎ問題と、低照度下での手持ち撮影において、いくら広角といえど手ブレが避けられない問題です。 帰ってきて撮った画像を確認してがっかり．．．という中でD780が発表され、物欲が刺激され、カメラ情報を漁るのが一段落したところで、気付けばレンズメーカーのHPを見ていました(^^;

買い換える候補としては、 Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED SIGMA 14-24mm F2.8 DG HSM TAMRON SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Tokina opera 16-28mm F2.8 FF が挙がりました。 NIKKORは純正であり、いわゆる大三元の1本。評価がとても高い神レンズ。お値段もそりゃあもうお高い(汗) SIGMAは完全に純正を意識した中で、収差を抑え込むなど素性のとても良い仕上がり。お値段は純正の半分くらい！ちょっと重い。 TAMRONはズーム域が14mmからじゃないのが残念だけど、悪くない光学特性に、なによりこの製品だけ手ブレ補正が付いてる！お値段はSIGMAよりも少しお安い。SIGMAと同じで、ちょっと重い。 Tokinaは今持ってるやつの後継機ですね。何より一番安い。そして一番軽い。NiSiのフィルターつけようにもレンズアダプターがない．．．

この中から選んだのは、TAMRONです！ 手ブレ補正付いてるのこれだけですからね。重くてもその分だと思えば許せます。 いつも三脚使えるわけではないですからね。フラッシュもしかり。 14mmからじゃないのは残念で、超広角での1mmの違いはとても大きいのですが、そもそも今使ってるのが16mmからなもので、今より広くなるんだよな♪ リングの回す方向がNikonと同じなのも隠れ良ポイント。 これはD780の発売前に買ってしまうかも。
