29 cops suspended on extortion charges in UPs Mirzapur

Uttar Pradesh Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinandan took action against 29 police officers, who had been exploiting their positions in various police stations for years, by relieving them from duty. This action came two days after 18 people, including 16 touts and two UP Police constables, were arrested for their alleged involvement in extortion of money from truck drivers on the UP-Bihar border. The Mirzapur SP initiated this action after receiving complaints of illegal extortion and other misconduct involving these officers. SP Abhinandan stated that there were consistent complaints regarding illegal extortion and mistreatment of complainants in police stations against the suspended officers. In response to these complaints, a total of 29 officers have been suspended from duty. Among those suspended are: Head Constable Narvesh Kumar Mishra and Shubham Kumar Maurya from City Kotwali Krishna Kumar Pandey from Katra Kotwali Chandrakesh Pandey from Vindhyachal Ajay Pratap Singh from Dehat Kotwali Bheem Kumar Singh, Sushil Singh, and Ramanand Yadav from Chilh police station Bihari Singh and Jwala Singh from Padri Sadanand Tiwari from Kachhwa Nagendra Singh, Vivek Kumar Rai, and Mukesh Chauhan from Chunar Shailendra Singh, Pankaj Dubey, Gyanendra Singh, and Santosh Kharwar from Adalhat Bhanu Pratap Yadav and Chandrashekhar Singh from Jamalpur Virendra Kumar Saroj and Rajit Kumar Saroj from Lalganj Phanindra Kumar Singh from Jigna Krishna Rai and Vijendra Kumar Rai from Ahraura Vikram Vishal Singh, Ghanshyam Singh, and Mukesh Yadav from Madihan Head Constable Raj Singh Rana from Madihan. A bookworm to the core, Arwal girl Juli Kumari professes a deep interest in Math

Even as boys dominated the Bihar board class X merit list, Arwal girl Juli Kumari, made it to the top three, securing 478 marks out of 500 as she shared the third rank with Bhojpur’s Shubham Kumar and Aurangabad’s Rajveer with 95.6% marks. Juli is the topper among the only 10 girls who have made it to the top 10 ranks while 31 boys made it to top ten out of the total 41 students. A typical book worm, this student of Balika High School in Arwal district– around 80 km south from Patna– would devote 15 hours a day towards her exam preparation. It helped that her father Manoj Kumar Sinha, a government school teacher, was her motivating force while mother Lalti Devi, a housewife, would encourage her ceaselessly to “bring name and fame to the family”.

Juli lived up to their expectations without feeling the pressure, exploring chapters in-depth, working her way through Math, her favourite subject, and engaging in self-study to better reinforce concepts. “I took to studying NCERT books thoroughly, and solving mock test papers from the question bank. By the time my exams drew near, I was on my fifth revision,” Juli recalls.

On any given day, one of her three sisters, a student of a government polytechnic in Darbhanga, would help her with the Science subjects, while her English teacher father would clear her doubts and queries. “Gender has never been an issue in my home and academics is everything. It is what inspired me to devote myself wholeheartedly,” says Juli while talking to Education Times.

In future, she has dreams of being a doctor “to alleviate the sufferings of the underprivileged in the rural belt”.

A diehard fan of emotional Bollywood numbers and television news, social media has never been on her priority list. “I de-stress by chatting with my family and drawing when the mood takes me,” says the Bihar girl for whom the results are yet to sink in.

Juli is among the 14,94,071 students appearing for the BSEB exams this year, of which 7,29,213 were boys and 7,64,858 were girls. Majority of the students who have passed the exam have scored second division, at 5,24,217. Total 4.04 lakh passed in the first and 2.75 lakh passed in third division. Himanshu Raj topped the Bihar Board class 10 exam this year securing 481 out of 500 followed by Durgesh Kumar with 480 marks.
