Navigating the Financial Landscape: A Guide for Canadian Students
Hey there, folks! Today, we're diving into the world of dollars and cents, talking about something we all care about—money. In particular, let's shed some light on financial wisdom tailored for the bright minds of Canadian students. Buckle up for a ride through the financial landscape, Anderson Cooper style.
Tumblr media
Mastering the Art of Budgeting: Because Every Dollar Counts
In the Great White North, where poutine and politeness reign supreme, it's crucial for students to master the art of budgeting. We're not talking about depriving yourself of those double-doubles or late-night Timbits runs, but about being savvy with your spending.
Study Abroad in Canada: Expanding Horizons
And speaking of gaining experience, let's touch on the magic of study abroad in Canada. Picture this: immersing yourself in the rich tapestry of Canadian culture, studying against the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Unleash the Power of the Spreadsheet
First off, let's talk spreadsheets. No, it's not a snooze-fest; it's your financial superhero. Create a simple budgeting spreadsheet, noting down your income and expenses. Be as meticulous as a beaver building a dam—every dollar needs a purpose.
Student Discounts: Because Who Doesn't Love a Good Deal?
Now, let's spill the beans on a well-kept secret—student discounts. From textbooks to tech gadgets, your student ID is your golden ticket to savings. Embrace it like a warm cup of cocoa on a winter day. Look for discounts at local stores, online shops, and even your favorite coffee joint. Trust me, your wallet will thank you.
Navigating Credit Cards: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Credit cards, my friends, can be a double-edged sword. Used wisely, they can boost your credit score and offer perks. But wielded carelessly, and you might find yourself drowning in debt faster than you can say "eh."
The Lowdown on Interest Rates
Understand those interest rates. It's like understanding the rules of hockey—essential. A low-interest rate is your best friend, while a high one is the opponent trying to body-check you into financial chaos. Read the fine print, and if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Student Loans: Navigating the Path to Education
Now, let's talk about the elephant in the room—student loans. Many of us have been there, and it's not as daunting as it seems. Think of it as a temporary bridge to your future self, one that's armed with knowledge and a shiny degree.
The Importance of Responsible Borrowing
Borrow only what you need. It's not a shopping spree; it's an investment in your education. Take time to understand the terms and conditions, and remember, paying back those loans is like a marathon, not a sprint.
Part-Time Hustles: Balancing Work and Study
In the fast-paced world of student life, finding that perfect balance between work and study abroad is like juggling flaming hockey pucks. It's tricky, but not impossible.
Freelancing: Turning Passion into Paycheck
Consider freelancing or part-time gigs related to your field of study. Whether you're an aspiring writer or a coding genius, there are platforms out there eager to pay for your skills. It's not just about the extra cash; it's about gaining real-world experience.
Building Credit: A Financial Beacon for the Future
As you navigate the stormy seas of student life, think of building credit as your North Star. A good credit score can open doors in the future, whether it's renting your own igloo or financing your dream sled—eh, car.
The Golden Rule: Pay Your Bills on Time
It's not rocket science; it's financial wisdom 101. Pay your bills on time. Set reminders, tie a string around your finger, do whatever it takes. Late payments are like snowflakes—unique, but too many can cause an avalanche of financial woes.
Wrapping It Up: Financial Freedom Awaits
So there you have it, a crash course in financial wisdom tailored for the savvy students of the Great White North. From budgeting like a pro to mastering the art of credit, consider this your playbook for financial success. Remember, in the vast wilderness of financial matters, you're not alone. So go forth, conquer those financial peaks, and let the loonies and toonies rain down on your newfound financial wisdom. Cheers, eh!

Tumblr media
"𝐈 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍'𝐓
told you about her I'm pretty sure I did!?". Maki then shook her head. "Oh, well Karou is a friend I met online. I'll never forget how we met, it was my first time in the club penguin. Ah, the memories! She had a party at her igloo and I went eventually and at the end of the party we-that part is unneeded but in the end, we became friends."
Maki's eyes went wide at the story you told of how you met 'Karou'. How would you become friends with someone over a game like club penguin? She surely had no idea how you met your other online friends.
Sighing at the memory you then continued walking with Maki catching up on all that happened while you weren't there at school and flirting with her a few times making her blush.
𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐦
Picking up your phone from beside your bed you clicked the Instagram icon.
Tumblr media
Now that you think of it in all honesty if you haven't met the love of your life: Maki, you probably would've ended up dating Karou. You hate to admit it but it was probably gonna end up that way but luckily the TVA hasn't shown up yet so time is going on the right track.
Karou and you have met a few times. Most of the time you'd end up buying a plane ticket then staying at her house for a week. Even though you were just a student at Kyoto they would sometimes put you on some missions which were how you would get money for things that you wanted or needed.
Other times you'd just steal Gojo's credit card. Making him having to cancel the credit card when you first did it but after knowing you and basically raising you for 12 years he was used to it.
Liking some posts on Instagram and going through stories you clicked off the app and went to the FaceTime icon to FaceTime Karou.
𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆
𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆
𝐑- "HEY BAE!" Kissing her phone while picking up the call Karou set her phone up on a stand to face her phone.
"HEYY! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH! BUT DO YOU REMEMBER THAT GIRL MAKI, THE ONE I TOLD YOU ABOUT?". Karou nodding her head eagerly on the other side of the phone. "Hold on I should speak in lower case. Anyways I'm making progress I think".
"Eww, real people relationships! Sorry I'm an anti-romantic". "Karou, didn't last week you had a Roblox sugar daddy?" Clutching your non-existent purse while shaking your head Karou gave you a faked shocked face.
"Back on point to Maki, I feel as if I'm 20/100 way there". Yawning you turned your head towards your clock: 4:46 A.M.
What were you doing before calling Karou? Well, that's a secret you'll never tell. You were crying reading the Tokyo Revengers manga. Looking back at your phone you said you were tired and Karou scolded you for staying up so late telling you to call her sometime soon.
Inserting the charger into your phone you set it on the nightstand. Pulling the white covers over your body which was in hello kitty pajamas your eyes starting closing until you fell asleep.
𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲
"Ya ba da ba do bap" you mumbled under your breath. Walking around Jujutsu Tech you felt bored, compared to living freely for those 2 months it was just plain boring, Plus Gojo was gone ever since you came back. Probably going to a hoes house you thought.
Walking back towards your dorm because there was no purpose in walking around in the halls you came up with an idea to cure your boredom.
Your master plan was to make up new outfits with the clothes you had. You had to go shopping fast. Opening up your closet you scanned through it and pulled out different clothes that you thought would look nice on you.
Lying the outfits on your bed like you were having a field trip the next morning. You dressed up in a white shirt and over that, you had a pink strawberry sweater vest over and white pleated skirt. Don't forget to tip that off with light pink high-top converse.
You changed your style every week so having baggy clothes, to grudge clothes, then too pastel clothes wasn't out of the ordinary to you. You were ready for each occasion. Picking up your second outfit which was a short sleeve mini black dress with a corset and fingerless lace black gloves. "I'm giving major 'c'mon fuck me emo boy' vibes".
Setting the outfit on your dresser you began undressing. After removing your shirt and pants you heard the door open. Looking at the face that was opening your door you saw Maki. Her eyes wandered to your now half-nude figure with only underwear on her cheeks were covered in a tomato red she then looked away covering her eyes.
"Oi cover yourself up what are you doing?!?"
Acknowledging it was her you smirked. "Why'd you look away, don't be embarrassed I'd let you look at me all day long if you wanted to". Interlocking your hand with the other hand that wasn't covering her eyes you sat her down at the spot of your bed that wasn't covered with your clothes.
"Shut up just put on your clothes!!". "Mmph fine if you say so". Unlocking your fingers you then nodded and grabbed some baggy shirt and shorts you put them on. Coming closer to Maki you saw the heat once on her face before simmer down.
"You can look now, though I'm pretty bummed out you didn't wanna see more," you said putting her hand down from her eyes. "So whatcha need babe?". Walking to your Nintendo switch you grabbed it and walked back towards the bed and sat alongside her.
"I just came to see your idiotic self was doing".

WHY SHOULD EVERY STARTUP THINK ABOUT WEB DEVELOPMENT?
Website development is basically the task of creating a website for either the World Wide Web or an internal network (intranet). Development usually involves creating a simple single page of plain text or perhaps with a few lines of code. The next level-up would be building an interactive website, one with interactive elements such as drop-down menus, forms, search boxes, pop-up boxes, and images. Then you get to the really complicated stuff, which involves things like Java, Flash, and other kinds of multimedia systems, as well as database and content management systems.
Every Beginning Shouldn’t be Hard with Professional Website
The importance of websites for startups and small businesses in the world today is undeniable. Online shopping has become extremely popular over the last decade, and this popularity continues to grow. According to numerous web development agencies in Dubai, millions of people turn to the internet to do their shopping, and millions more use alternative shopping websites for the convenience of having everything they need to be shipped directly to their door. Because of these changes in customer expectations, website designers must work closely with marketing professionals to ensure that the final product is both user-friendly, attractive, and appropriate for the target market. This is why website development and marketing are absolutely integral parts of every business’ web strategy.
In fact, many small businesses mistakenly believe that their budgets should only cover the coding and design aspects of their websites. While the coding and design work is essential, be prepared to spend some money on web designers. While not nearly as important as the coding, marketing and advertising elements will make or break your business.
These are some of the things every startup should consider when it comes to web development:
1. It’s Hard to Develop, But It’s Worth Your Time and Money
One of the first things you must understand about website design and programming is that the internet is not a simple system. It’s filled with millions upon millions of programs and scripts, many of which will interact with each other. For instance, when building web pages, you may be writing HTML code, but the program that produces that HTML code is also writing JavaScript code, which interacts with your photos and videos. So, you must hire a professional web development agency in Dubai that’ll provide you with HTML experts. Moreover, these experts should understand the intricacies of all the various programs and scripts that make up your website. Otherwise, you’ll experience a lot of trouble when starting up your website, and it won’t be easy to make it run smoothly.
2. Web Development with Easy-to-Use Platforms
Even though hundreds of different website development platforms are available today, two of the most popular remain WordPress and Joomla. Every web development company in Dubai will tell you that both platforms are prevalent because they’re easy to use and have built-in SEO functionality. As a result, even someone relatively new to website development can build a great website, and it’ll start earning money almost immediately. WordPress, however, has become extremely popular among small businesses because of its flexible licensing terms. While Joomla does have rigid licensing terms, it’s still much more flexible to use than WordPress, and that’s why lots of startups are switching to Joomla over WordPress to develop their websites.
3. You Can Choose a Web Development Platform According to Your iOS
There are several key differences between WordPress and Joomla. Firstly, WordPress uses a version of PHP that’s called PHP/Linux-PHP. While this sounds like almost every website developer’s favorite, it’s actually not. Joomla is written in C++ and therefore works well on both Windows and Linux computers. Thus, if you’re a Windows user, then you can definitely use Joomla.
Secondly, both Joomla and WordPress allow their users to create a “front-end” or user interface, which the end-user sees when visiting a website. In other words, these applications allow the person reading your website to interact with it. If you’re writing code, then you probably know how challenging this can be. You want to be able to interact with the data, the layout, the colors, and so forth from a client, not having to go back to add in the code. If at any point you decide you need professional help, locate the closest web development agency in Dubai and hire them to develop you an incredible website.
4. Having Stable Coding Languages is of Vital Importance
Both WordPress and Joomla are written in very stable languages. Both languages are multithreaded, meaning that multiple threads can execute code simultaneously without any crashing or error messages being displayed. This means that both programmers and developers can simultaneously work on the project without any worries whatsoever. Programmers especially prefer these languages as they’ll never have to worry about them crashing. This, along with the fact that both languages are used worldwide, makes them some of the most sought-after coding languages today.
5. Ease-of-Use Allows Beginners to Develop Incredible Websites
Both Joomla and WordPress platforms are very intuitive, and there are plenty of materials and tutorials available online, so even beginners can develop their first websites. Sometimes hiring a web development company in Dubai may seem completely unnecessary, but truth to be told, it’s always better to leave web development to professionals. Having a professional backup is of vital importance if anything goes wrong with your web development project. For inexperienced people, web development may seem overwhelming. That’s why hiring some of the best web development companies in Dubai is a great idea as they offer various services to startups and small businesses. We at Igloo marketing agency can help you develop a website from your dreams without any hassle whatsoever, so make sure to contact us whenever you need our help.
Wrapping Up
Even though it’s quite straightforward to build your own website from scratch, there’s plenty of things you’d have to learn to complete this project successfully. Besides, building a website isn’t the only thing a startup needs, as marketing is vital for success as well. So, if you don’t want to waste months of your time and energy, make sure to hire professional help and let us do the work for you.

A Digital Holiday Season By Kristen Sauer
It’s (almost) the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! With the holiday season comes the excitement and joy spread by both kids and adults who are getting into the spirit that this time of year brings. But with the way that most of this year has gone thus far, it is looking like this holiday season will have to be spent differently. And in order to do so, that means the holiday season must go virtual; a problem that people all over the world are facing together. The question now remains, how will this happen on a virtual level to still accomplish the same feelings that come during normal times?
In most years, the highlight for kids at Christmastime is getting to go visit with Santa and telling him what they are asking for that year. Whether it be at the mall or a local pancake breakfast, these usually mean large crowds and no social distancing. The famous Edinburgh, Scotland Christmas Market is going to be done online. As part of this, kids will have the opportunity to hear from Santa who will read a story nightly. It might not be the same as an in person visit, but it will allow children to still feel some of the typical holiday magic that usually lives in these experiences. This online market will also have the local venders there that usually are in person as a way to increase their sales and make a little money back that they lost during the hard times this year. I think that through keeping traditions like this one going, even on a virtual level will keep up the joy this season brings, while still bringing people together, just in a different way.
Tumblr media
In Ireland, families can log on to Zoom together where they can have a 10 minute conversation with Santa, without needing to wait in line as they usually would. These calls are private, so families are being charged to participate in this experience. It would cost 35 euros for this meet and greet with Santa.   All parents would have to do is fill out a questionnaire ahead of time to make the experience specific to them. I think this is an interesting shift when compared to the meeting Santa at the mall or other locations in the past. This is now a more personal experience and gives kids the feeling that they are getting a unique visit from this special friend, which might not have been as personable in the past, since the underlying main focus of trying to get a family picture could overtake the point of a child getting to talk with Santa.
Macy’s, one of the leading department stores known for their holiday spirit, is having to make their long standing tradition go online this year, too. At a time where these stores need more than ever to draw people in to shop, they are also having to make these difficult decisions to turn aspects of the holiday season online, which could prevent people from shopping with them.  I hate that a store like Macy’s has to end a tradition that has gone on for such a long time, but it would be worse if they were still to hold in person events like these and risk employees and customers getting sick from large amounts of people there or if there was no distancing. The “Macy’s Santaland at Home”, what Macy’s refers to their Christmas festivities as, will feature some of their standard in person activities that they usually have in store, like the writing letters to Santa to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. This is a very interactive experience and will allow for children to meet with Santa, although he will be prerecord, just as they would in the past. I think that being able to adapt to these ever changing times and keeping up with the change in demand is what is going to spread these companies apart and might help them in the long run to remain open, even when COVID slips away.
Tumblr media
Although there is so much more to the holiday season than getting to meet with Santa or shop at the malls, it is nonetheless an important holiday tradition that children look forward to each year. Even though this year does look a little different, bringing together these age old traditions for children is going to help make what is going on in the world seem a little less dark. Spreading holiday light through the eyes of an innocent child, might make everyone a little more joyful themselves.

Do you eat the crusts of your bread? Now I do. When I was a kid I used to ask my grandma to slice them off. Do you know who Miss Havisham is? Only because of Gabie. Which body type would you say you had? Idk, slim? Would you live in an igloo? I’d try it out for a night, but I don’t know about live. Have you ever made homemade lemonade? I don’t think so.
Is green one of your favourite colours? I hate green. Are you afraid of the dark? Only when the dark is supposed to make things scarier, like if I’m in a haunted house or the woods lmao. Generally I’m not afraid. Have you ever flown a kite? Yes, many times. I still reached the time when kids used to play outside, so I definitely had some fun with kites. What’s your preferred flavour of jam? I hate fruits so the only jam I’ll consume is guava, and only because it’s part of my high school’s signature tart. What’s in your fridge? Frozen food, ice cream, vegetables, some condiments/spices, juices, chocolate, a cake. What kind of animal did you last pet? My doggie. Would you ever consider becoming a nurse? No. I remember there being a huge demand for Filipino nurses like 10 years ago, and it seemed as though everyone took up nursing in college. But I never considered it, not even during that time. Do you like elephants? I love elephants. But not in a exploit-them kind of way, LEAVE THEM ALONE How are you for money? I think I’ll be good this week. I get to save money because Gab and I won’t be seeing each other for our usual date night, and I only drive three days this week so I don’t have to spend a lot for gas as well. Of course, I’ll be flushing these down the toilet because my friends and I plan to drink out this Friday. Describe your best pair of shoes: My favorite is my pair of white/red/blue Onitsuka Tiger sneakers. They’re so comfy to wear and yet it matches everything. Do you think you are more intelligent than the average person? I have my moments but I obviously don’t go around vocally stating it, or unnecessarily use ridiculously big words around people. Do you ever think about why we are here? No. That’s Gabie’s question to mull over hahahah, I hate philosophy. What’s something that saddens you? Old people who are alone, when peoples shop instead of adopt, animals getting endangered. Do you like cherries? Hate. Name a celebrity that you admire that nobody would expect you to: Kendall Jenner, although t b h it is getting increasingly hard to be patient with her increasingly problematic ass. She used to be my favorite but now that title belongs to Kourtney. Who is the most desperate person you know? LOL. She recently pissed me off so I’ll put her on here: my girlfriend’s grandma. What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you during sex? Too disgusting to share with the world, so I’ll have to pass. Are you lonely? Not right now. What is your favourite musical? I hate musicals, but I have a soft spot for Miss Saigon because my mom practically made me listen to it from the womb. Would you agree that taking drugs isn’t as cool as it used to be? I never found it cool. Animal print: yes or no? Not anymore. Who is the most fashionable person you know? Kate, for sure. Sis always serves a new look. Can you use a yoyo? Duh. A Filipino made it so it’s pervaded Filipino kid culture for as long as I can remember. Everyone had yo-yos. Do you like to colour? I do. On my Christmas depression break last year I bought several coloring books and a massive case of coloring pencils, just so I can finally start on the hobby that I’ve put off for a long time. What’s an instrument you’ve always wanted to learn to play? Piano. Would you go on holiday to a snowy place? I would. Anywhere that’s different from tropical Philippines. Do you like Kate Bush? Never heard. Do you prefer to shave or wax? Shave. I’ve never had myself waxed. Are you one of those people who are constantly playing Angry Birds? Hahahahahaha 2011 called, they want their fad back. Have you ever broken anything of value? I don’t remember anything right now but I definitely wouldn’t be surprised to find out that I have. I practically break everything I touch. Would you ever have sex in a public place? Sure as long as we’re not exhibiting it on purpose. What’s a song that makes you want to check into a mental asylum? Lmao wtf? You mean a song that depresses/numbs me too much? Cos if that’s what you mean, then there’s a song on the New Moon soundtrack called Slow Life by Grizzly Bear that I routinely listen to when I’m completely out of it. What’s the worst chat up line anybody has ever used on you? I don’t chat with a lot of people so I’ve never gotten anything bad. Have you ever completely misjudged somebody? Sure. Do you know anybody who is pregnant at the minute? Nope. Who did you last speak to on the phone? My girlfriend, aka the only person I talk to on the phone. Do you give money to homeless people? Yes. If I have snacks laying around I give that as well. Don’t you think that tattoos are just tacky? Some can be. Do you like politics? I hate it, but I have to pay attention because I give a shit about my country. Is summer your favourite season? Not really. The rainy season is. Do you know what OFWGKTA stands for? Nope. Sounds like some sort of boujee rap shit. When was the last time you were inside a tent? Seventh grade. What’s your best memory? As of now, seeing Paramore, my Sagada trip, or rebuilding my friendship with Gab. I couldn’t pick. Do you think Jenna Marbles’ videos are funny? I like her old stuff; I generally don’t view her newer videos. Have you grown up yet, or do you still think you have some more to do? There’s a loooooooot lot lot of growing up to do. 20 is not a mature age at all. What is your opinion on Internet dating sites? Whatever works for you. < Do you like folk music? Some are hits, most of them I really just don’t care for. Are there any strange names that you like? Ines. It’s such a pretty name, but it also means ‘annoy’ in Filipino so it’s always sounded a little off to me :( I also saw the name Imogen once and I really liked it, but I don’t even know how to pronounce it + sounds too foreign for the PH so I doubt I’ll ever take the name.
Is there anybody you would like to completely banish from your life? MY MOM !!! Would you say you had pretty decent music taste? Uhhhh it’s fine, but I wouldn’t share it to anyone. Your favourite pasta dish: Truffle mac and cheese or carbonara. Do you know what the most commonly used letter in the English language is? E. Have you ever felt trapped in a situation? Sure. Strangest thing you’ve ever seen? A weird creepy-crawly thing that fell from the ceiling onto my laptop. Ever had a crush on somebody of the same sex? Yep, I am dating her at this moment. Has anybody ever called you a bastard? I dunno, I don’t think so. Would you like to meet the queen? I’d take the chance if offered. I’m paying to take you to see a musical - which one do you choose? Miss Saigon. Do you think that the media portrays women as being equal to men? There’s work being done but it’s still not satisfying. Lowest point of your life: Some suicidal stints when I was 12 and 18. What’s your favourite flavour of Vitamin Water? Never drank those. Do you post pictures of yourself online constantly? Never, unless Gab is in the picture as well. Who is the last person you ignored? Elis, my orgmate who pissed me off two weeks ago. Do you know any lesbians? Sure, my girlfriend is. Would you wear feathers in your hair? If it was part of an even more elegant/elaborate outfit then sure. When was the last time you were well and truly scared? Two Mondays ago. Do you know how to use a camera properly? For the most part, but I generally don’t mess with the more specific controls e.g. aperture and ISO since that part I’m clueless about. Favourite member of your favourite band: That’s unfair. I love all of them. Which country would you be from besides your own? That's not... what? < Same. Are you ashamed of your own body? Not really. I don’t care how it’s shaped. Who’s your favourite female rapper? I don’t have one. When was the last time you received a letter? December.

Why Fifth Avenue Is Amping Up Its Holiday Windows
Tumblr media
In early fall there was a problem on Fifth Avenue. In a matter of weeks, about 750,000 daily visitors would descend on the northern part of the thoroughfare to see the famous holiday windows, an uplifting, nostalgic tradition for many tourists and New Yorkers alike.Yet there was a depressing sight: four colossal buildings that were vacant, vacant, vacant, vacant. Until recently, the buildings had been the flagship locations for Polo Ralph Lauren, Henri Bendel, Massimo Dutti, and Tommy Hilfiger. To put it bluntly, said Michael Hirschfeld, who works in commercial real estate, it was “mood killing.”So the Fifth Avenue Association, which represents more than 120 establishments, sprung into action, deciding to do more of what Fifth Avenue does best: Holiday windows. The association hired the designer Mark Briggs, who has created window scenes for Harrods and Saks Fifth Avenue, to create four new displays for the empty buildings. The designs will not represent any company or brand, but rather the romance of the city in high winter, with scenes of ice skating in Central Park and skyscrapers made of gingerbread. It was an ideal project for Mr. Briggs. “Not to have to think about a product,” he said, “is the best thing for a creative.”The fact that Fifth Avenue tenants are teaming up to create something that belongs not to an individual retailer but to the area as a whole is a sign of what is to come. It’s time for Fifth Avenue, many local experts say, to remake itself. “Fifth Avenue has to change and go beyond its traditional missions,” said Jerome Barth, president of the Fifth Avenue Association. The problems of Fifth Avenue are well documented. The area in question, between 40th and 60th Streets, represents some of the most expensive commercial real estate in the city, and prices keep going up, according to CoStar Group, a company that provides real estate analytics and research. The ongoing e-commerce boom has not helped. In the past year alone, Fifth Avenue lost the Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, Henri Bendel, and Lord & Taylor. In 2017 it was Polo Ralph Lauren. Although a few companies like Puma and David Yurman have moved into some of the empty buildings, many remain.Even President Trump abandoned Fifth Avenue as his official residency this year.“Brands don’t need these dinosaurs,” said Stacey Widlitz, president of SW Retail Advisors. “I don’t see a world where these huge Fifth Avenue stores are going to be in high demand again.”But the area itself is still in high demand. More crowds than ever are flocking to Fifth Avenue, especially during the holidays. Mr. Barth singled out the Rockefeller Center subway station as an example. “A few years ago during the holidays it used to get 51,000 swipes a day,” he said. “Now it’s 70,000.”In an effort to embrace the swarms of people, the city recently announced that it would temporarily limit cars around certain parts of Fifth Avenue. But with store options on the wane, how will Fifth Avenue entertain its visitors? Some stores are opening restaurants, cafes and niche services only offered on Fifth Avenue. Others are putting on shows. And the neighborhood, in general, is attempting to move toward becoming a center for special events and exhibitions. On the eighth floor of Saks Fifth Avenue, tucked away behind the shoe displays, is Le Chalet, a Philippe Starck-designed cocktail bar. Indoor seats are next to fireplaces and covered in fur throws. Outdoor seats on a patio overlook Rockefeller Center. On the floor above is L’Avenue at Saks, a fine French restaurant. Both opened in February. There is also Tiffany & Co.’s Blue Box Cafe, and on Black Friday, Bergdorf Goodman is expected to open a new restaurant in the middle of its men’s store. The tables will be placed on an inside terrace, ideal for people watching.Other stores are offering products and services shoppers can’t get online, like the elaborate customization station on the top floor of the new Puma flagship, where you can get your initials embroidered on a shoe. And then there are the actual shows. On Nov. 25, Saks Fifth Avenue unveiled its Frozen 2-themed windows with a performance by the Broadway actress Idina Menzel. Fifth Avenue was closed down as a 50-person choir sang and danced in the street. Behind them a glittery light show transformed the department store’s facade. At the end of the performance fireworks shot out of the top of the building.Mr. Barth is planning more for Fifth Avenue. The specifics are a surprise, but he hinted at more theatrical performances, art installations and pop-up events.Still, many New Yorkers want to avoid the area at all costs, regardless of the cool new enticements.Inyang Akpan, 34, who lives in the East Village and owns a game developing company, can’t imagine spending time on Fifth Avenue. “I don’t even know what stores are up there anymore,” he said. “I want to go where the smaller brands are. Everyone wants these small curated experiences instead of huge flagships.”Clearly, Mr. Barth has his work cut out for him. In order to produce the new holiday windows, for example, he had to convince his board — a powerful group including executives from Tiffany & Co., the Trump Organization, The St. Regis New York and Rolex — of the idea. Mr. Barth does have some credibility to his name. For many years he worked at the Bryant Park Corporation and the Times Square Alliance, where he gained experience diversifying commercial centers. It was his idea to create the “show globes” — installations housed inside igloos that are inspired by Broadway shows — currently dotting Times Square. His ideas come from all different places, he said. “I read very widely, both novels, nonfiction, magazines, newspapers, and I follow about 200 blogs,” he said. “I travel, and I think about what is good in a space when I see one.”But transforming Fifth Avenue, a high-end shopping destination for over 150 years, into a center of interactive experiences that complement the stores, will be a different challenge for him.The holiday windows are his first test. “People aren’t used to working this way on Fifth Avenue,” he said. “Honestly, we are trying to build legitimacy. We have to show we can produce on a high level.”The holiday windows will be on display through January 5th. Source link Read the full article

How to Build Work Relationships Remotely
In 2017, a standard BBC interview went awry for Professor Robert Kelly, an expert on South Korean politics. While discussing the impeachment of South Korea’s president live on camera from his home office, his five-year-old bounded in—and a viral star was born.
“I thought I’d blown it in front of the whole world,” Kelly told The Guardian afterward. “I assumed that was the end of my career as a talking head.”
Today, it’s laughable that this was even a big deal. With COVID-19 turning every home into a school, daycare, and workplace, it’s inevitable that different pieces of our lives—once kept delicately separate from one another—crash together.
Nearly 50% of American workers left offices and went home due to the pandemic. What now?
Remote Work Is Here to Stay
“Not everyone likes to blend their private and work lives,” writes Gianpiero Petriglieri, a professor at INSEAD, for Harvard Business Review. “Some love the office…for giving us respite from our private selves and a chance to be someone different, in some ways better, that ends up enriching who we are at home.”
The office, they argue, brings people together—but it doesn’t necessarily promote productivity. Experts worry that so much blending encourages burnout and collapses the lines we place on ourselves. But with the pandemic, that isn’t a choice.
While it’s easy to miss the office, more often, employers are reaping the benefits of a remote workforce. A 2-year Stanford study proved that remote work increased productivity with work-from-home employees working the equivalent of an additional shift each week.
“When I speak to employees who do not have an office or don’t identify with it, such as those who work in factories, emergency rooms, kitchens, and shops, or on the road,” writes Petriglieri, “the office is a place, as a physician told me, where real work goes to die.”
But what about the people you work with, then? If the main purpose of an office was to come together with colleagues, build relationships, and be part of something bigger, remote work makes that much more difficult.
Can You Build New Relationships Over Zoom?
70% of employees feel left out when they work remotely, according to Igloo’s State of the Digital Workplace. Whether that’s not being together in the same room or missing casual happy hours or lunches, it can be lonely being stuck at home.
Making friends at work has never been a requirement, but it’s well established that having closer relationships can make you happier and more engaged at work. Over 50% of female employees and 44% of male employees said that they had a work spouse at some point in their careers. The term “work spouse” refers to a best friend and partner made in a work setting. Most work spouses never cross into “real friendship” territory.
Source: https://content.gallup.com/origin/gallupinc/GallupSpaces/Production/Cms/GMJ/rpt_kufuvugwduxkyy8eyg.png
So how do you find a work spouse…digitally?
Building relationships remotely takes time and effort, like any relationship. It’s important to build relationships into the fabric of remote culture at a company, which can be difficult if you’re starting from scratch. Like any relationship, this starts with communication.
With everything online, you can’t assume that another person knows the intention behind every text you send—so make time for more natural communication. “When the foundation of your relationship or your friendship with your coworkers is primarily work-based, it’s hard to reach out, like ‘Oh, let’s hang out,’” one tech worker told The Atlantic.
Sending random GIFs or articles and striking up non-work conversations via Slack makes a difference. “There’s kind of an unspoken rule that when we’re working remotely, we shouldn’t waste time on relationships,” said another.
It’s time to break that rule.
If you want to build a relationship, you’ll have to work at it. Turn on your camera. Get on Zoom. “We get to see people’s faces and better interpret their reactions. We can look in their eyes—even over a screen—and have a clearer understanding of the meaning behind their words. Oh, and we may get a glimpse into their personal lives that might trigger a conversation which could create a deeper relationship (‘you’re into origami too?’) based on common connections,” writes small business expert Gene Marks for Forbes.
It starts with the camera, but there are other tricks to make your meetings get more personal:
Build in 2–5 minutes of small talk at the beginning and end of meetings
Ask for an office tour
If a pet or kid walks into the frame, don’t judge—say hello!
Use a fun Zoom background as a conversation starter
Then, participate in the same kind of culture-building exercises and activities you would have participated in real life—with some digital tweaks. Consider starting an impromptu office happy hour over Zoom one night next week or Slack-calling a work friend “just to say hi.” Encourage activity in fun or non-work Slack channels, send out weekly “get to know you” polls, or use tools like Coworker Coffee or Donut, which randomly assign virtual coffee dates to employees each week.
What About Those Awkward Conversations?
Of course, whenever we discuss remote work, there’s an assumption that you’ll be able to conduct some of your work in person, especially the most important conversations, like performance reviews, feedback, or job interviews.
When it comes to performance reviews, experts recommend leading with compassion and considering eliminating traditional ratings altogether. “If someone is not performing, now is not time to beat them up,” Anna Tavis, a human capital professor at NYU, told Harvard Business Review. “You need to make a conscious decision which battles to fight right now. In this environment, you may need more frequent, smaller evaluations…to pivot toward a people-focused management system, built around resilience and agility, instead of efficiency and competitiveness at any cost.”
According to a recent Gartner survey, 74% of companies plan to keep or increase remote work in this “new normal.” It’s up to each and every one of those employees and management to help relationships work and to build a relationship-driven organization instead of a ruthless and competitive one.

Harbour Island - Heaven Undiscovered
As I sit in the Grand Bahama International airport awaiting our return flight home to the States, I decided to create this informative article while things are still very fresh within my memory. This journey began about 2 months ago when I was buying special place to obtain away and to surprise my partner with a visit for the 20th anniversary. I budgeted around $2k, and thought that would be enough for a four day, three night stay at a nice place somewhere in the Bahamas. I researched many different choices, including cruises, all-inclusives, and others. After much reading online in forums, and speaking with other friends and family, each of them recommended Nassau and Paradise Island. Looking to the pricing options, it made more sense to stay in Nassau rather than Paradise Island, although after visiting Atlantis on Paradise Island, I will tell you that the difference between there and Nassau is night and day. We will speak about that in more detail in just a moment.  https://oceanparadisegame.com/
I spent several days searching on the internet to find the best deals, and I decided to stay at a "Super Club" called The Breezes. They position themselves as an excellent inclusive resort. Although we've stayed at an all-inclusive before while in Cancun, I had never heard about an excellent inclusive resort before. Based on the research, what that meant was that not just were all meals and beverages included, but so were most of the other activities. The other items which they mention were playing water volleyball in the pool, nightly entertainment in the hotel lobby, and use of all non-motorized water activities. They did offer kayaks, small catamarans and small sailboats as part of their amenities.
Once we first reached Nassau international Airport, we took the cab to the resort. Ernie was the name of our cab driver. He was very pleasant and described lots of the neighborhood scenery. As he dropped us off, he gave us his contact number so that we might be able to call him on the final day of our trip for our return ride to the airport. The cab ride was only $20 and I tipped him another four dollars.Upon arrival at the resort, we were met by the concierge staff who offered to take our luggage to your room. Once we began to walk the steps to the grand entrance of the resort I could commence to see a really beautiful scenery unfolding. As we surely got to the the surface of the steps I possibly could see the entire lobby and how it was open to all the elements. There have been no front doors on the building and the back of the lobby area had giant openings that showed one of the very most beautiful views I had ever seen.
The views were breathtaking. We were met at the check-in desk by a gentlemen serving a really tropical drink. Following a few issues with our key card we finally managed to get into our room. The very first thing we did was go over to the window and open the curtains. Wow! What a fantastic view. We were able to see the full view of the swimming pool as well as the ocean. The water in the pool and the water in the ocean actually matched. I told my partner that the trip to the Bahamas might have ended right then and there, and that would have been all worthwhile for me. I had experienced what I'd arrived at see... That is, the absolute most beautiful waters on earth! However, this trip wasn't pretty much me, but about celebrating 20 years of a wonderful marriage.Although the room was clean, it was old and dated and did not match the hotel lobby area. It had been also without seating. The sole two places to sit in the entire room... either on the bed, or even a hard chair alongside the desk. A loveseat or a comfortable chair and Ottoman would have been nice. However, the view composed for it. Besides, we really didn't plan to invest much amount of time in the space anyway. After having a short rest in the area, we made a decision to go out and explore the resort. After walking the property and having our first number of cocktails, we realized that property had a lot of potential, but needed a boat load of tender loving care. There have been many little things that made the difference. We will see cracked tiles in the swimming pool, loose boards on a number of the decking, and unfortunately they certainly weren't using top shelf liquors at the bar.
Following a short walk on the beach, we decided it absolutely was time to test the buffet. We stepped in to the dining area and it felt as though we had just walked into an igloo. We just entered the lobby from the outside, walked down the stairs and through the double doors to the dining area where in actuality the temperature dropped by a minimum of 30° ;.It absolutely was at the very least 65° in there. With the exception of one meal, we ate every meal outside.Aside from the buffet, the hotel did offer four other restaurants. Unfortunately, they all required long pants in order to dine there. This posed a challenge for me because the only real clothes that I packed were shorts and comfortable shirts. Naturally, we never got a chance to dine at any of the other restaurants for the duration of our entire stay. As an area note, we did search for pants while shopping downtown, but the cheapest pair we found were $150.

Website Development
Do you wonder how a website should be designed and developed to generate the best leads and user experience?
As you might already know, to judge how a good website is, you look at the UI and UX. The UI or User Interface is what the user sees in terms of graphics, design, fonts, call to actions, etc. It is important of course that the website reflects a professional business; that is good images, tidy elements, good presentable font, etc. think about it as a user entering a shop on the street; that’s how the user should feel when visiting a website.
The UX or User Experience is equally or even more important because imagine a customer enters a beautiful shop on the street, and doesn’t find the content that he/ she is looking for, the employees are rude, or the clothes are of a bad quality, etc. that’s exactly how the user feels when landing on a website that its speed is slow, doesn’t work well on mobile, provides irrelevant or missing information, etc. Having said that, it is key to work on both elements, UI and UX.
If you are looking at re-developing your current website, or developing a new one, it’s important to speak to an expert agency that not only has years of experience, but an agency that cares about others’ businesses.
Social Media Marketing
First, digitalopment’s social media team will help you create or enhance your social media marketing strategy and identify key objectives, target market, key messages, content type, information your audience likes to consume, preferred channels, number of posts, required budgets, relevant hashtags, and so on.
Second, we start creating content and sharing it on the chosen social media channels. We basically start engaging with users that follow your pages and like your posts, as well as users that engage with your competitors.
Third, we register you to social media groups and engage by sharing content, replying to questions, etc. This results in winning new followers and users.
We ensure that these social media rules are always followed to drive great results from your social media marketing.
Search Engine Optimization
Do you want your website to appear on the first page of search engines?
You need to work with an SEO agency that has proven records to delivering results. Igloo is an SEO agency in Dubai that uses white-hat SEO techniques only, unlike many of the agencies out there. So be cautious when choosing your SEO agency. SEO consists of 3 main parts; On-page Optimization, Off-page Optimization, and Technical Optimization.
After understanding your business objectives, the first step of the process is performing an audit and analysis of your website and your competitors; that will help us draft a strategy and action plan for the coming months ahead to achieve your SEO goals. Next step is to perform a keyword research and selection to be implemented on the current pages of the websites, and the new ones that we will help you to create in the form of services pages, FAQs, guide, blog, etc.
The technical work could have already started, or could start after the content strategy is completed. The technical work is another crucial part of the success of SEO and has to be taken seriously and performed at high standards.
After the Off-page strategy is completed and some of the websites are identified from where we could build backlinks, then the execution starts. We have dedicated specialized team members that solely focus on link building, and have a proven track record. Again, all links we build are genuine, and all links are shared with our clients with full transparency.
We report to you bi-weekly, monthly or bi-monthly depending on the package you choose. However, you will get access to a real-time report that shows you all the activities that we are performing, and the performance of your website traffic and keyword ranking.

Finland tops the list of the world’s happiest countries.

For the second year in a row, Finland ranked first in the World Happiness Rankings.
The annual study ranks 156 countries based on their citizens’ happiness, according to their own evaluations.
According to report co-editor John Helliwell, the contentment of Finland’s citizens more likely stems from their way of life rather than their DNA.
The “Land of a Thousand Lakes” is known for its work-life balance, stellar education system, beautiful nature, and more.
It’s no wonder that people in the Nordic country have the highest quality of life in the world.
For the second year in a row, Finland has been named the happiest nation in the world.
The Nordic country came first in the 2019 World Happiness Rankings, an annual study conducted by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network with the Ernesto Illy Foundation. The study evaluates and ranks 156 countries based on “how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be, according to their evaluations of their own lives.”
The study used quality-of-life markers such as income, freedom, trust, life expectancy, social support, and generosity to determine a country’s overall happiness.
With one of the world’s most impressive education systems, a modern stance on work-life balance, a symbiotic relationship with nature, and much more, Finland simply cannot be beat.
See what life is like in the happiest country in the world below.

According to report co-editor John Helliwell, happiness in the top-ranked countries is probably not attributable to genetics alone.
“It’s true that last year all Finns were happier than [the] rest of the countries’ residents, but their immigrants were also happiest immigrants in the world,” Helliwell told CNN. “It’s not about Finnish DNA. It’s the way life is lived in those countries.”
It’s the country’s second consecutive year at the top of the rankings, and it doesn’t take much research to see why.

According to The Center on International Education Benchmarking (CIEB), which analyzes effectiveness amongst the world’s education systems, the key to Finland’s success in the field lies in its combination of “intense focus on teacher quality […] and [its] approach to accountability, curriculum, instruction, and school management.”
And the country’s capital city is a cultural and academic hub.

While bathing, Finns often whip themselves with “vasta,” a bundle of fresh birch twigs, to smooth their skin. Sometimes, they even roast sausages on the sauna stove, according to Visit Finland.
