It will take four deliveries for Shoaib Akhtar to send world’s premier batsman Steve Smith back in the hut even today, the former Pakistan pacer has said.

“Even today, 3 hurting bouncers and i can dismiss @stevesmith49 on the 4th ball. Lol,” Akhtar said in a tweet.

The 44-year old quick was responding to a ESPNcricinfo poll on popular social networking platform Twitter where the cricket website paired 20 top players — former and current — with each other and asked fans to pick one contest they would love to watch.

Shoaib Akhtar Supports IPL 2021 Postponement

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has backed the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to postpone the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He took to Twitter and shared his thoughts regarding this in his latest video on YouTube and further added that he knew the decision (IPL postponement) coming and had also suggested that a couple of weeks ago as well.

Shoaib Akhtar, in his tweet, shared that “nothing is more important than saving human lives” during these crunch times of COVID-19. “IPL cancelled. I saw it coming & suggested that two weeks ago. Nothing more important than saving human lives during current covid crisis in India,” the former Pakistan speedster captioned the video.

However, the 14th edition of IPL was postponed for an indefinite time period last week after many players have tested positive for the deadly COVID-19 virus. As far as the league is concerned, out of the 56 league matches, only 29 games were played before the postponement.

It started with two Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) players Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier and after that, Chennai Super Kings coaches Lakshmipathy Balaji and Mike Hussey, SunRisers Hyderabad’s wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals’ experienced spinner Amit Mishra have also joined the list of infected people. And, that saw the BCCI and IPL Governing Council unanimously decided to call off the league with immediate effect as well.

On the other hand, former England player Nasser Hussain has claimed that BCCI called it right as India has been going through a hard time as they are fighting against the second wave of Covid-19 virus.

“There was no option other than to call off the Indian Premier League. Not after the bio-secure bubbles had been breached in so many places. Enough was enough. This has become far bigger than a game of cricket. The players are neither stupid nor insensitive. They would have been fully aware of what has been going on in India. They would have seen on their TVs people pleading for hospital beds and oxygen. They would have seen unused ambulances waiting outside cricket grounds and wondered whether it was right for them to carry on playing. And they would have been uncomfortable,” he wrote in his column of the Daily Mail.

Shoaib Akhtar lashes on Pakistan cricket team after failure in Super Over

Former fast paced bowler Shoaib Akhtar has lashed on the Pakistani cricket team once again after the team performed badly in the third ODI against Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. Pakistan team has performed well in the previous two matches of the 3 match series and won the matches however, they lost the dead rubber as the match went to a super over because both the teams ended up making an identical score of total 278 runs.

Akhtar took to social media and tweeted his disappointment stating that the result was embarrassing’ and also requested the Pakistani team to ‘change its mentality’. “Embarrassing. Losing to Zimbabwe is an issue. You lose some, you win some however you have to be progressive. We weren’t expressive. Change your mentality before you become history,” he tweeted.

Zimbabwe played well as batted first in the match. Sean Ervine of the team scored a century and remained unbeaten as the team gave a target of 278/6. Brendan Taylor remained a great support as he made a half century contributing to the target. Similarly, Sikander Raza gave 45 runs which again were very helpful. On the bowling front, it was Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain who claimed 5 wickets and finished with amazing figures of 5/26.

Pakistan chase was also impressive led by the captain Babar Azam. He made his 12th ODI century. The captain, whose team was not much of a support during the match, made a great partnership with Wahab Riaz making a total of 100 runs. Wahab Riaz scored a 50 of his own. When the team balled Blessing Murazabani took five wickets and the total tally of the Pakistani team was restricted at 278/9.

In the Super Over, the Pakistani team scored just 2 runs while a single boundary from Raza made Zimbabwe win.
