I really need to watch the rebuild of Eva

Honestly, I haven't watched any of them despite Eva being one of my favorite anime. I was always of the mind that I'll watch the whole thing when it finishes and just haven't gotten around to doing so yet. So I have no relationship to Mari yet. But I have had the fact that Shinji ends up with her in the end spoiled for me. Same with Asuka and Shinji confessing to each other. So as an Ashinji shipper (who is fully aware of how problematic they actually are), I'm curious to see how they get to the point where they can go, "Yeah, I think I really liked you at one point," but how ultimately Shinji finds a healthier partner in the end and everyone is just like, "Yeah. This is good."

Especially when I already consider the end of the manga, which is both very Ashinji heavy and takes all the things I love about End of Eva but is a lot less jaundiced in its outlook, as the true end of the series already

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time Ending: Shinji's Happy Ending?

It's great to hear that the ending of "Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time" provides fans with a long-awaited sense of closure and happiness. The resolution, with Shinji creating a new world, free from the conflicts of Angels and EVAs, and finding stability and happiness with Mari, represents a significant departure from the darker and more complex themes of the series. Though it seems completely out of left field that Shinji would end up with Mari, it actually works out.

Shinji and Rei

Though Rei is good to Shinji and is affectionate toward him, this is mixed in with her being created from his mother's DNA and her lack of autonomy. The genetic connection between Rei and Yui brings an inherent familial bond. If romantic feelings were to develop between Shinji and Rei, it could be interpreted as having incestuous undertones, as Rei essentially shares genetic material with Shinji's mother.

Opting for a platonic or sibling-like relationship helps navigate the potential uncomfortable implications of the genetic connection, contributing to a more emotionally stable and healthier friendship between them in the context.

Shinji and Asuka

Kaworu realizes he threw himself so far into trying to help Shinji, he forgot himself along the way. In contrast, Mari represents hope for a new life in a new world, as her relationship with Shinji will be unburdened by the past.

This choice in the narrative may reflect the film's theme of moving forward and finding happiness, as Mari is portrayed as a character with less emotional baggage from the series' past. Ya es marzo, y me había olvidado de estas fotos. Mis primeras adquisiciones librescas del año 2023:

Carmine, de Yoshiyuki Sadamoto.

Hace años que sabía de este libro, cuya primera edición de 2010 estaba agotada. Se podía encontrar usado, a más de 150 dólares.

Desde hace como 1 mes empezó a salir listado, "nuevo", a unos 60 dólares, en diversas tiendas japonesas. Tenía mis dudas. Varias veces he comprado artbooks o ediciones especiales de Blu Rays japoneses, que el vendedor ofertaba como "nuevos", pero al llegar era evidente que estaban usados, aunque estuvieran en muy buen estado. ¿Cómo era posible que un libro de hace 14 años apareciera nuevo, y a ese precio? Pero cuando vi que no eran ni una ni dos ofertas similares, sino muchas, supuse que debía ser una nueva edición, y lo ordené. Efectivamente, esta es una nueva edición, de septiembre del 2023.

Es una edición grande, de 33cm x 26cm. La calidad del papel e impresión es increíble. Contiene las ilustraciones del manga a tamaño completo de página. Otras, incluso a doble página.

Una cosa que me pareció inusual es la imagen de Asuka de la portada. Usualmente, para la boca hacen sólo una línea, o un óvalo pequeño: una boca sin labios. Esta es una de las pocas veces que un personaje de anime de hecho tiene labios. XD

La cuarta imagen de este set (The End of Evangelion), con la Rei-Lilith al fondo y Shinji al frente, es una pasada. Dan ganas de deshojar el libro y enmarcarla.

Discursos Sagrados, de Elio Arístides. No sé de qué va. Sólo recuerdo que a E. Arístides lo han citado en El Camino a Eleusis (Ruck, Wasson y Hofmann), al describir las celebraciones de los Misterios en Eleusis. Está que he encontrado es una edición de 1989 que se había quedado sin vender en las bodegas de la editorial Akal.

El Parménides de Platón, la edición de Alianza, traducción de Guillermo R. de Echandía. Desde que Gredos terminó de editar las nuevas versiones de las obras completas de Platón, había estado haciendo una relectura, desde el principio. Al llegar a el Parménides (traducción de Ma. Isabel Santa Cruz), he encontrado algunas cosas que no me resultaban claras. Cotejé esos pasajes con la traducción al inglés de Mary Louis Gill y Paul Ryan (Edición Hackett) y tampoco salí de dudas. Así que compré esta de Alianza. La introducción es muy buena, y los pasajes que no entendía me resultaron claros en esta traducción. La recomiendo por encima de las mencionadas.

Plato's Cosmology, de F. M. Cornford (1937). Voy a la mitad, pero ya me parece una obra genial. Es una traducción al inglés del Timeo de Platón, con los comentarios de Cornford. Una de las mejores cosas es que se detiene a comentar las cuestiones matemáticas, que para Platón eran de importancia capital.

i had to rewatch that episode to get it right because i always confuse who is who and oh my godddd chilchuck's VA as shinji. I already knew that but I never watched the dubs so it was just trivia.

also, they were so fucking gay. can you believe hideaki anno's endgame was shinji x mari... how could he. how dare he

personally, i dislike the story of the eva rebuilds. the first one stays relatively close to anime canon, basically just being a higher-budget reanimation, and I really like it. it's visually gorgeous. the second one is also pretty great, up until about 3/4 of the way through it. i don't like the way the ending was executed. from a story perspective I can see why it happens, but I don't like the execution. the third one is interesting. i enjoy the character arcs in the third and fourth rebuilds, but visually? the third is awful. the animation itself is pretty, but some of the modelling used for some of the scenes just looks so mediocre. and i also really dislike the timeskip being so long, and everything they did with the EVAs themselves. also the choice to have mari be the 'chosen love interest' isn't one i necessarily agree all too much with.

and the general message comes across differently than the anime. no matter whether you use the anime series or EOE as your ending (or both, as i tend to) you come away from the series feeling as if life is shit, that's inescapable, you will make mistakes and you will be hurt by others. but it can get better. if you let people in, it can get better.

whereas the rebuilds give an entirely different message to me, and that's - well, I don't even think it's that clear? change is possible and hope isn't futile? forgiveness? i think it's supposed to be about ending destructive cycles, but honestly, it doesn't portray that as well as it could. instead, it acts as if the world is perfect now that the EVAs are gone, which arguably does most of the cast a disservice but I'm not going to rant about that because this is already long enough. i think the rebuilds flanderised everybody at least slightly compared to their anime counterparts - whether this was intentional or simply a consequence of the medium (films vs show) is up for debate.

tl;dr - It's 1am and I can't sleep and I'm bitching about the Rebuilds of Evangelion again. They're not awful by any means, and they do have merit, I just definitely prefer the anime.

Kaworu clame he wanted to make shinj happy when all he wanted to do is amke himself happy which ended whit him making shinji life miserable. While kensuke help shinji even telling him she should try talking to his father which ended well for him leading to shinji being happy for the first time in life. Mari for some dumb reason keep forcing asuka to be whit shinji knwing those two can’t get along whit five minutes which make her really annoying. Being around shinji make asuka very unhappy which lead to her ending this toxic relationship once and for all movie on from shinji. Kensuke who live whit asuka for fourteen years know she a trouble young woman but never left her side and is always there when she needs him. Kensuke treat asuka like a adult, he does not  tell her what to do whit her nor force her to be whit him like mari does whit shinji. He let asuka make her own choices like a grow up and this does go unnitice by asuka.   

Shinji claim he liked asuka but he never show it all for. He never talk her to, never try to make things batter whit her and when she try to talk to him before the final battle he totaly ignore her by never looking at her. Is this how you trat someone she supposed use to like. He make a halfass confession that carry no weight and all everyone think it wipe out years of abuse between the two and ignore how badly he treated her during the movie. It bullshit. the only thing he say is true when he drop kensuke name cause he know that where asuka hart and mind belong to and shinji is happy for both of them. While they did not get along he does care for asuka and what her to be happy. Kensuke is his best friend that help him when other people did not help him in his time of needs and what him to be happy too.  

Action speak louder then words and kensuke action speak louder then the words of kaworu, mari and shinji. There a reason why the 3rd village see him as a hero. He a good man who does good things rather they workout or not. He earn right to be happy ans not he get live the rest of his life whit the woman of his dreams. Sadly eva fans don’t see that cause they too blind to see that due there selfish feelings toward kensuke. Too busy listening to clowns like adamworu who trash kensuke for years just to suck up to eva fans who hate him. Those kind of people is why I don’t get along whit eva fans cause they don’t care about these characters. Eva staff don’t care either all they care about is the fanservice characters that make them money and kensuke not one of them. If you care about these characters then then these selfish fans know this is about the eva characters feelings and to stop forcing there own selfish feelings on characters just because they didn’t get what they wanted.
