I'm glad you enjoyed emio, cause i can't bring myself to play it cause i'm still bitter at the game's actual artstyle. Teaser implied that they can use the "spirit hunter" or "shin hayarigami" like style but they only use it as bait-and-switch and go with bright cheerful "slice-of-life" style, polar opposite of what they've promised

Dude you totally should play it! Things REALLY pick up towards the end. At first glance, sure the art style might not reflect how dark the game is but trust me towards the end... oh boy... that's when shit gets real (there's some pretty horrific stuff there)...

Gaming in Japanese

This past year I have completed two games in Japanese.  夜を灯す(yoru o tomosu) and ペルソナ５スクランブル(Persona 5 Scramble). I'm happy with the progress that I've been able to make with these two games.  I can tell that my language skills are improving.  

With Yoru o tomosu, it was my first completed Horror Visual Novel.  It wasn't that hard to read (I'm around N2 level).  The only difficult part was the specialized vocabulary about music.  I did look up quite a few words but I didn't write them down or make flashcards.  I enjoyed the story.  It was a fun read with great characters.  I haven't gotten all ending paths, but I got the true ending.  For me, it was worth it.

Persona 5 Scramble was more difficult for me because it involved a lot of interacting with menus and quests.  I started it at the beginning of the year shortly after it released.  I only finished it recently due to the announcement of the English release and my improved language skills.  When I picked it up again, the conversations were easier to understand.  While playing through this game, I did not look up any words and purely relied on context.  It was worth it.  I understood a lot of it from context and highly enjoyed the story.  I'm looking forward to playing it in English.  

I've started several games in the past year in Japanese that I haven't finished.  These have mainly been due to the difficulty of the vocabulary.  Others are Otome games, that I'm playing in between long games.

I have more games in Japanese that I'm planning to get.  I don't think they'll be as hard as the two visual novels I had to drop (it was mainly due to detective vocabulary).  The others are just mainly otome games with some visual novels (and one RPG).  

It makes me so happy to progress this far and doing one of the things that is my goal.  Hopefully I can make some time to practice translating and read more manga.  Either way, I'm making progress.
