Making myself cry thinking about SJ’s disembodied spirit watching the ending scene of SVSSS where SY runs toward Binghe, leaving yqy in the past.

SJ’s eyes widening at the resigned expression YQY is wearing, more vulnerable than it was when he was at death’s door a few days prior. SJ’s head swiveling back to where SY is running past him, words tumbling out of his mouth before he can suppress them.

“Wait! Stop!”

Trying to grasp onto the back of SQQ’s robes, spectral hands phasing through his body. Desperation clawing its way up Shen Jiu’s throat when he turns back to see YQY’s solitary figure.

“Don’t you dare leave him! You can’t—!”

But SQQ can and will happily leave behind YQY for a monster. And Shen Jiu is left grasping at black robes, hands slipping through fabric and flesh, all too aware of how long YQY stared at SQQ’s retreating form until it was just a speck in the sky. Ignorant to the nails trying to dig themselves into any part of him to let YQY know he’s not alone. The fervent whispers of a name long forgotten going unheard. YQY meditates throughout the night, completely unaware of the form curling around him and silently weeping.

Qijiuyuan AU with establish jiuyuan where YQY has made up with them both, but no matter what SY and SJ do they can’t seem to drag YQY into their relationship!  They’ve tried subtle invitations, courting gifts, spending more time with him, pressing close to him and hanging off both his arms whenever possible, even making display of what he’s missing out on to no avail! He just gives them that same stupid smile and lets himself be dragged around, or at worst politely excused himself. 

SY: maybe he just doesn’t want us  SJ: no that’s ridiculous, you saw the bulge in his robes that time we were making out in front of him and your robe slipped. He’s just playing hard to get >:( SY: I guess we just have to be patient and let him come around in his own time.  SJ: we haven’t tried fucking in front of him yet

on a qijiuyuan streak so far um hm so consider the flavor of sy fully believing that he's just a substitute for who yqy really loves (sj) and doing his best to fulfill the role

maybe it's a courtship for political purposes and so sy is aware that there wouldn't be any genuine romance here, but he is hoping for at least friendship??? he does want to save yqy bc his original ending in pidw is just too tragic... and also full of plot holes and plot armor.

though it gets obvious real quick that yqy is head over heels in love with sqq. nothing sy says or does will dissuade yqy from loving the scum villain. the thing is, it is also obvious to sy that sqq abhors yqy, except that it's less of a disdainful kind of hate and more like hurt? sy is so confused. he's cursing airplane out every time he gets stuck with both peak lords during a tea session.

when he does unlock qijiu's tragic backstory, he goes ??? wtf is this tragedy airplane, why didn't you put this in pidw it would've been so much better!!! more thought-provoking!!! also everything makes so much more sense now. and so he sets out to right the misunderstandings and miscommunication (he does like yqy and sqq, even as the scum villain, deserves an explanation and/or closure)

on sj's side he's fucking pissed that this pale impostor of him is going around taking advantage of the guilt yqy feels over him. he spitefully brings down sy's reputation, bc he's possessive over his qi-ge even though yqy isn't his qi-ge anymore... and he can tell that yqy is not really in love with the impostor, anyway.

yqy is just going !!! bc on one hand he feels delighted that sj does still feel something for him, even if it's just possessiveness from the past... and also sy is genuinely kind and good and yqy has longed for such warmth before, but it always feels wrong when he thinks of everything he's done and failed to do... if it were any other time, he may have grown to love sy, but it's not meant to be.

A common fanfic trope I've seen to meow meow SJ is to make him neglectful to LBH instead of actively malicious. And I get the main rationales for it being A. The child abuse is the one hard action to justify B. If basically all the other shit he did was misunderstandings he failed to clarify it's a reasonable leap to make C. Bro ultimate hater moment how did he even have the energy to specifically target a 12 yo to the pt of working to make a fake cultivation manual that could kill him. This man is fr running on 4 hrs of sleep a week how does he have the energy. Like his favoritism is a fr trait so ofc his singled out i need to throw hands w that 12 yo would be fr but I get why sometimes people consider the degree of it to be cartoonish.

However I think that woobification could be good if it ever actually acknowledge A. Neglect is a form of abuse in fact and B. Ming fan being the scapegoat in those fics like damn maybe emotionally neglecting the teenagers under yr purview leads to issues like 'feeling the need to actively harm the competition'. Which is a fun and interesting kind of way for MF to suffer. MF being a bully bc he has learnt it is free of repercussion and actively encouraged by the figure of power he admires and who has authority over him VS MF being a bully as a form of acting out bc the only present adult figure in his life is emotionally checked out at best and actively neglectful at worst.

Idk just SJ's abuse intentionally targeted at one guy VS unintentionally causing his teenagers to feel the need to go lord of the flies for acknowledgement. Is funny. Instead, maybe they can give their armored scales special properties by swallowing certain rocks! For example, if they copper they can get veins of copper in their scales. If they swallow enough gemstones, their scales start to become gemlike. Etc.

Also, let SY and Binghe be friends! Maybe when Binghe goes to select his sword, or is sent on some chore before that point, he meets Panyuan. Panyuan sees he’s sad, but a sweetheart, and decides to adopt him as an older brother.

Binghe is a Wan Jian disciple now, and there is nothing anyone can do about it! (I mean, they probably could do something about it, but Wei Qingwei won’t allow it. What Panyuan wants, Panyuan gets!)

Firstly, excellent workaround for all this, because I wholeheartedly need Panyuan to eat rocks, I just think it would be so funny. Also!! The scales idea is so cute! And hilarious.

I mean, imagine you're Wei Qingwei, and different materials have been going missing - you just got a shipment of copper and it's lighter than you remembered it to be. You're confused, and you mention this casually to your precious son, asking if he knows where it has been. He stares up at you with his big guileless eyes, chewing on something that sounds suspiciously crunchy as he shakes his head. His scales are glimmering with the copper decorating them, and when you point it out he stares up at you blankly before indiscreetly shoving more copper into his mouth.

Your son is not a very good liar.

Also!!! While I completely agree that Panyuan and Binghe can be great pals, Wei Qingwei would never poach his shixiong's disciples <3 (He will, however, invite him over often because even Shen Jiu can't deny Panyuan's adorable eyes.) Also Shen Jiu is too busy focusing on Panyuan to care about Binghe outside of Panyuan being like "people are bullying my best friend (⁠っ⁠˘̩⁠╭⁠╮⁠˘̩⁠)⁠っ" and Shen Jiu is like "my disciples are unruly and cruel this cannot stand" (this is my comfort AU he's not going to be malevolent to Binghe)

Cut to Binghe being like "I'm in the woodshed" and both Shen Jiu and Wei Qingwei looking over like "literally why are you in there???" "I was told there wasn't any space" and then we shift to Ming Fan and co being like "I feel a sudden bout of fear...."

”They won’t find you,” Shen Yuan promised. His voice was soft but it hissed in the shadowy corners of the abandoned temple they’d taken refuge in. Coming from any other person, those words would have sounded like a threat, but from him… Shen Jiu was unnerved at how quickly he was willing to show vulnerability in front of the rogue cultivator. A hint of protectiveness, of security, and he was willing to throw aside so much. Shen Jiu had to forcibly remind himself that he’d barely known him for more than a few weeks. He shouldn’t feel safe, should never let down his guard. Qi-ge had taught him that.

But… Shen Yuan hadn’t turned him in for a reward even though he knew his history—that he was an escaped slave, a thief, a murderer.

But… why? Shen Jiu closed his eyes tightly, refusing to let the tears fall. That would be the ultimate self-betrayal.

Something warm stroked his hair and he realized Shen Yuan had reached across their bodies to comfort him. He should hate the rogue cultivator for his unwanted kindness. He wanted to hate him. But he remained still and didn’t pull away from that too-human touch.

Shen Qingqiu/Meng Mo

When I saw this my first thought was a "Shen Jiu's conscious is still around" au, and when Shen Yuan and Binghe are fighting Meng Mo, Shen Jiu is finally able to make himself heard. Meng Mo and him bond over being accidental parasites to the ungrateful young people

I love that. It's so beautiful. I can imagine them spitting blood anytime bingqiu shenanigans go on... That would be so entertaining to have Meng Mo and Shen Jiu making running commentary like it's a sports game whenever Bingqiu does something.

The au I've been playing with recently is OG!SQQ dying and reincarnating into SY and then transmigrating back into SQQ, and Meng Mo helping SQQ unwrap his memories.

I also love the thought of SQQ and Meng Mo just beginning to chat after the dream realm arc, co-shizunning Binghe even though Binghe is of course going 'I only have one Shizun!', and then Mengshen just having intellectual conversations with one another.

(Meng Mo, feed up after this brat keeps on refusing to become his direct disciple: "Fine! If this brat won't accept me as his Shifu, I might as well become his Shimu!")

I think Meng Mo is uniquely equipped to be one of, if not only, people able to engage with a discussion of history, lore, flora, fauna and the world of svsss at large with Shen Qingqiu.

And there's also the fact that Meng Mo might be one of the only people to actually have insight into SQQ's intentions and thoughts. He canonically is aware of Shen Jiu's past, and even weaponizes the tragic memories of Shen Jiu against Qiu Haitang, while also declining to subject Shen Qingqiu to them. (Need citation for the last part I can't quite remember but Im pretty sure this happens? Anyway, grain of salt.)

And Meng Mo had access to Shen Qingqiu's dreamscape before LBH did. And displays more awareness of Shen Qingqiu's mind than most, So Meng Mo is uniquely suited to be shipped with beloved fandom bicycle SQQ

(Also Meng Mo is still a demon, and seems to be aware of what the actions Shen Qingqiu took in the Holy Mausoleum, so between SQQ's unnatural learned-ness about the place and how hardcore it is to rip the Ties that Bind (Or Qingxi? If I remember) out of his arm. Any, I think, demon would find that attractive.)

I also love how Meng Mo and SQQ work together in the Holy Mausoleum arc.

I have many thoughts on this rarepair of mine, and I need to reread canon specifically for this pairing, but I hope anyone who is interested enjoyed. Thanks for the ask, and sorry if I rambled a bit
