“classic literature is so boring, why do high schools never change the reading requirements for kids? how can these books still be relevant?!”

The day has finally come!!!!
Seriously, y’ll don’t know how happy I am to have finally finished this mammoth of a fic. Writing it has been a major priority for the last three years; I am so excited to finally bring it to a close. And even more so that I’ve actually finished it. So many of my story ideas never reach even a modicum of this point, so the fact we are here and the final chapter is up is a huge deal.
This story, in particular, will always have a huge piece of my creative heart. I’ve wanted to do a Bat-family telling of Hamlet for years, but it never quite fell into place until I 2020 when Damirae became cannon and suddenly all the dynamics fell into place. This story had been both a blessing and a welcome challenge for me. I’ve grown so much as a writer and I just wanna thank all of you who have steadfast on this ride with me. I know there have been aspects of this story that are hard, but Hamlet is Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy and I would be less of a writer if I did not honor that.
Anyway, I want to thank Jen and Vi for helping beta and help me wade through different story ideas. I definitely couldn’t have gotten here without you guys. And thank you to all that give constructive feedback over the years. Your comments, both good and bad, are very much appreciated. Don’t spare them now.
I’m looking forward to focusing on some fresh story ideas. Especially Taming the Demon, since it brings a new Shakespearean flare to our birds.
Enjoy the final act 😜❤️

Hi, let's talk gatekeeping fanfic. First, if you bully teenage girls out of the fandom for writing like teenagers who're still learning, you are a terrible person. Because you were that teenager. I get some of us fic writers like to pretend we came out of the womb clutching a bloody, sticky 250k word in-depth character study fic that would rank in the top ten most kudos'd fics in the fandom ever if only our eyeballs and coordination were developed enough to transfer it to a screen, but that's a massive pile of horseshit, and you know it. You wrote with mashed paragraphs and mispellings and clunky dialogue. You used the same tropes you like to mock young writers for. So maybe have a flashback and then chill.
And just in case you don't care about that, you're also literally shooting yourself in the face, because a TON of writers (which often includes you) generally follow this trend:
Get excited about a character or fandom when you're younger and/or not a Leveled Up Writer yet
Decide to try writing fanfic for the first time
Bang something out and excitedly post it
Either get good or helpful/encouraging reactions that make you want to keep keep writing, or you get a bunch of sneering comments about teenagers by grownass gatekeepers who, for some reason, feel smug about mocking excited novices who're trying to write a fun story, thus chasing you away from writing.
And there's where you fuck yourself over if you pick the shit-covered Door #2. Because a writer can't improve unless they write. Oh, you might not see the effect immediately, but after a few years, the fanfic scene will die down as writers move on to less toxic spaces (or give up entirely). And you will have no one to fill the void. YOU are the reason you'll get less fic. Imagine mocking and making fun of a new piano player whose first song on piano is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. "Ugh, I hate this basic teenage crap, are you just banging on keys? Come back when you can play Moonlight Sonata."
I literally do not give one single shit if you 'approve' of some teenager's (or adult's!) fic. If they're happy creating the equivalent of a cake with a stick figure design, that's awesome cause they made themselves a cake they enjoy. Alternatively, they're practicing making cake and no cake is perfect the first time, unless you learn something, in which case it's served its purpose and is a great cake due to fulfilling that purpose.
Tell you what - you want to gatekeep? Here's who you can gatekeep in fanfic:
Plagiarists.
There. Go nuts.
And if you're a novice writer, be it teenager or adult, deciding to try writing fic for the first time, please, please don't let them tear you down. Please don't stop writing. Don't stop learning. Don't stop creating. Don't stop being so filled with love for a story and its characters that you have to create just so you can breathe a little easier without your words and story filling up all that space around your lungs. I promise you, I promise, that every single writer you love has been at where you're at now, and the only reason they write like they do now is that they kept going, kept trying, kept writing. People will talk about talent but it plays a far smaller role than you think - this is 90% practice. And that means you can learn this.
You can do this.
So do it.

i’m not saying that fixation on any play is good sign but there’s something particularly alarming about getting stuck on hamlet

My theater kid bullshit has collided with my Teen Wolf obsession and provided me with this scenario, please enjoy:
Stiles is falling behind in one of his English classes. Not because he doesn't understand the material or anything. He understands just fine. But unfortunately, his last two big papers were less than his best and turned in late. Thank you, vengeful witches, for ruining his academic standing. At first, the teacher seems very hesitant to give him any sort of extra credit. That is, until they start working on a Shakespeare unit and Stiles turns out to be kind of a Shakespeare genius. The language just kind of clicks for him. He's always been a talker, and he enjoys the way the rhythm of iambic pentameter flows off the tongue. Plus, he's able to spot all the countless dick jokes and innuendos that seem to fly over everyone else's head.
Knowing that Stiles can read Shakespeare with so much ease, the teacher makes him a deal. He'll grant the extra credit Stiles wants to get him back up to his desired GPA...If Stiles auditions for the production of Hamlet the school is putting on.
He wants to say no, he really doesn't want to add "rehersing for a play" to his list of things to worry about. Lacrosse season ending had him actually looking forward to a bit of extra free time, being part of Hamlet would really dig into that. But he wants the fucking extra credit, so he decides he's going to audition, and tank it. It'll get him at least some of the points he needs, and he won't have to actually be part of the show.
But then auditions come around, and Stiles finds himself shocked by just how BAD half of the students are. The lines aren't that difficult to read, and he knows at least 90% of the students reading them aren't intentionally doing badly. After hearing the monolugue assigned to them be butchered so badly for the 20th time, Stiles ends up forgetting his whole plan to tank his audition. He reads the scene perfectly out of pure spite and respect for the text because it's actually a pretty good monologue when it's done correctly!!
He gets cast as Hamlet. The lead part. So much for having free time.
Cue Stiles working on the play while also dealing with the usual pack business. The shenanigans, the teasing, the potential for ship content. There's so many possibilities with Stiles unintentionally becoming the lead in a Shakespeare play.

10 Things I Hate About You: Modern Romance with a Shakespearean Twist
Running Time: 1h 37m
Rating: PG-13
10 Things I Hate About You is a high school take on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, following the unlikely romance between the fiercely independent Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles) and mysterious bad-boy Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger). Set against a vibrant high school backdrop, the film explores themes of independence, self-discovery, and the complexities of teen romance. With its witty dialogue, memorable poetry scene, and iconic rooftop serenade, this movie brings a unique blend of humor and depth to the rom-com genre. Kat’s unapologetic independence and Patrick’s hidden vulnerability create a dynamic, relatable story, showing that sometimes love grows in the most unexpected places—even in high school hallways. The film has since become a classic, celebrated for its unique characters and clever adaptation, resonating with audiences of all ages.

📽️ 10 Things I Hate about You (1999)
This is one of my favorite movies. I don’t even know how many times I’ve seen it, but it never gets old. It’s based on a Shakespeare play (The Taming of the Shrew) which is probably why all the characters are so interesting and relatable. Shakespeare’s themes are so universal and timeless, and I think this movie is too. I’ve loved this movie from the first time I saw it.
Sex/nudity: 5/10 (drawings of breasts and penises, off-screen flashing, kissing, many innuendoes, nicknames for male parts, talk of teen pregnancy)
Language: 3/10 (mostly mild but there is quite a bit)
Violence: 2/10 (a couple fights)
Overall rating: 9/10

Hey all! So I've finally got this updated ready and I'm so excited to share it. I've been spending a lot of time with this story recently and I'm in love with period pieces lately so I'm really excited to be writing a story rich with inspirational history and drama.
I did make some very very slight changes to the original version of the Zine pieces this is jumping off of. However, they're so slight that it is not necessary to reread it, but if you feel the need to refresh your memory feel free.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this ride because I'm in love with writing it.
