قلعہ لاہور میں موتی مسجد آج بھی پوری آب و تاب کے ساتھ موجود ہے

مشہور انجینئر مامور خان نے جہانگیر کے محل کے بیرونی دروازہ کے پاس یعنی مکتب خانہ سے ملحقہ یہ خوبصور ت مسجد تعمیر کروائی تھی ۔ لاہور میں تعمیر کی جانیوالی اس مسجد کے گول موتی نما گیند کی مناسبت سے اس کو’’ موتی مسجد ‘‘ کے نام سے پکارا جاتا ہے۔ مسجد کے بارے میں جہانگیری اور شاہ جہانی عہد کے مورخین نے کچھ نہیں لکھا۔ بعض مورخین اسے شاہجہان کے دور سے شمار کرتے ہیں۔ سکھ دور میں اس کو بطور شاہی خزانہ استعمال کیا جاتا رہا ہے۔ اس مقصد کے لئے مسجد کا مرکزی دروازہ مضبوط آہنی تختوں سے بند کر کے بڑے بڑے قفلوں سے بند کردیا گیا تھا اور باقی محراب نما دروازوں میں اینٹ کی دیواریں کھڑی کردی گئی تھیں ۔ مسجد کے کھلے دالان کے سامنے والے حصہ پر عارضی طور پر سایہ دار چھت تعمیر کر دی گئی تھی۔ 

7 فروری 1900ء کو وائسرائے ہند لارڈ کرزن نے ایشائی سوسائٹی آف بنگال کے سامنے تقریر کرتے ہوئے کہا ’’جب میں گزشتہ سال اپریل میں لاہور تھا تو میں نے تین سو سال قبل تعمیر شدہ شہنشاہ جہانگیر کی انتہائی خوبصورت مسجد کو دیکھا جو سکھ دور حکومت کی طرح اس وقت بھی بطور شاہی خزانہ استعال ہو رہی تھی۔ اس چھوٹی سی مسجد کو سیاحوں کی توجہ کا مرکز بنانے کے لئے ازسر نو تعمیر کرنے خواہش کا اظہار کیا تھا‘‘۔ لارڈ کرزن کے مطابق مہاراجہ رنجیت سنگھ نے اپنے عہد حکومت میں انتہائی بے توجہی اور مجرمانہ غفلت کا مظاہرہ کرتے ہوئے اس مسجد کے تقدس کو پامال کیا۔ لہذا لارڈ کرزن کے احکامات کے تحت اس مسجد کی ازسر نو تعمیر کاآغاز ہوا۔

Lahore Fort or Shahi Qila and its attractions

The Lahore Fort is a citadel in the city of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The fortress is located at the northern end of walled city Lahore, and spreads over an area greater than 20 hectares. It contains 21 notable monuments, some of which date to the era of Emperor Akbar. The Lahore Fort is notable for having been almost entirely rebuilt in the 17th century, when the Mughal Empire was at the height of its splendour and opulence. 

Though the site of the Lahore Fort has been inhabited for millennia,  the first record of a fortified structure at the site was in regard to an 11th-century mud-brick fort. The foundations of the modern Lahore Fort date to 1566 during the reign of Emperor Akbar, who bestowed the fort with a syncretic architectural style that featured both Islamic and Hindu motifs. Additions from the Shah Jahan period are characterized by luxurious marble with inlaid Persian floral designs, while the fort's grand and iconic Alamgiri Gate was constructed by the last of the great Mughal Emperors, Aurangzeb, and faces the renowned Badshahi Mosque.

On the second day of his visit to Pakistan, UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Boris Johnson, arrived in Lahore to visit Mughal era Shahi Qila (Lahore Fort) and Badshahi Masjid.
