my interpretation of mulder & scully’s relationship can basically be distilled down to believing that their romantic love for each other informed their friendship and that’s why there’s no extricating the two. you can’t point to a place and say “that was their friendship” or “they were just friends at this point” because the romantic side was always there. and i think that’s what rubs me wrong when a rare person tries to argue that there wasn’t any romance between them in like s1 or whatever bc it’s like... yes there was???? and whether or not it lives up to arbitrary individual standards of romance is the thing of headcanons, but msr is as deeply romantic as it is deeply platonic. there’s no separating the two.
